The Demon Lord Is Carrying My Child - Chapter 13
Wu Huo rushed over in the middle of the night, looking at the Human-Faced Mountain before him with cold sweat. “Eldest Senior Brother, there’s really no need to collect something like this, is there?”
“Hmm?” Chen Li took a step forward, standing beside Wu Huo. “Why not?”
Wu Huo had no idea where his usually steady Eldest Senior Brother had acquired these messy collection habits. When they were children, it was stones and branches; as he grew older, every time he descended the mountain, he would bring back a heap of strange and eccentric things, relying entirely on Wu Huo to pack them away.
Speaking of which, the fact that Wu Huo’s cultivation had progressed so rapidly over the years was due, in half, to Chen Li’s “contribution.”
Those other items were one thing, but… Wu Huo glanced at the Human-Faced Mountain again. This thing was too terrifying; he felt a shudder just looking at it. He completely failed to comprehend Chen Li’s desire to collect it. Wu Huo thought to himself: I must make Eldest Senior Brother give up on this Human-Faced Mountain.
“Eldest Senior Brother…”
He had just started to speak when he saw something flying through the air a messenger letter bearing the special seal of Beichen Mountain. Chen Li reached out to catch it. At first, he thought it had been sent by Tu Jing, but his gaze caught the faint image of a peach blossom on the envelope.
Standing beside him, Wu Huo saw the peach blossom and shared in his sudden joy, saying excitedly, “Eldest Senior Brother, it’s a letter from Little Junior Sister!”
Chen Li nodded. The hearts of both senior brothers were filled with the thought that the little girl finally knew how to send them a letter.
“There is actually someone in this world so audacious?” Wu Huo was shocked. “It’s one thing to usurp our Beichen Mountain’s name, but they actually dare to use living souls as sacrifices to the heavens.”
Chen Li was also very solemn. “This matter is grave. We depart immediately.”
After speaking, he started to walk away, but Wu Huo grabbed his sleeve. Pointing at the Human-Faced Mountain behind them, Wu Huo asked, “Eldest Senior Brother, what about that Human-Faced Mountain?”
“Move it.”
Concise and clear, though Wu Huo didn’t necessarily understand.
“Move it where?”
“Beichen Mountain. Human-Faced Stones are rare in this world. Move it back and let Sixth Senior Brother study it; it may also benefit his cultivation.”
Sixth Senior Brother, Ku Mu, had always been obsessed with pharmacology, but Wu Huo scratched his head he had never heard of Human-Faced Stones being used in medicine.
“Human-Faced Stones used in medicine can cause a person to lose their memory.”
Wu Huo suddenly realized. “Eldest Senior Brother, do you mean…”
“Regardless of whether that is the case, move it back first.”
“Alright.”
Wu Huo searched his person and finally pulled out a large purple cloth bag. Inside this bag was a small spatial dimension capable of holding rivers; containing this Human-Faced Mountain would be no problem.
Once Wu Huo had stowed the mountain, Chen Li broke through the illusory maze, and the two of them hurried toward Ji Shutao’s location without a moment’s lingering.
Ji Shutao shook the soundly sleeping Ye Xiaoge awake. Ye Xiaoge was bleary-eyed and about to speak, but Ji Shutao covered her mouth.
The two of them crept to the door. They were on the second floor, but the commotion downstairs was so loud it was impossible to ignore.
It seemed they were searching the rooms one by one.
Ji Shutao knew they might search, but she hadn’t expected them to come so quickly.
“Miss Ji, we…” Ye Xiaoge lowered her voice, her body trembling uncontrollably. Although she knew her father’s men were inside and that her father would protect her, she still couldn’t help but feel afraid. Perhaps the image of a loving father had long since vanished from Ye Xiaoge’s heart, replaced by a completely unrecognizable monster.
“Jump the window.” Ji Shutao pulled her to the window. Peering out, she saw the alley below was also full of patrolling men.
The footsteps drew closer. While Ji Shutao was still considering which side would be easier to fight through, the door was pushed open.
Ji Shutao kicked the table over directly and, grabbing Ye Xiaoge, jumped out of the window.
Zhuang Yi’s sword was still in her hand. For some reason perhaps because Zhuang Yi had instructed it the sword felt exceptionally fluid in her grasp. With the sword’s assistance, Ji Shutao quickly tore a hole through the encirclement, and the two of them vanished into the boundless night within a few steps.
Zhi Ming wanted nothing more than to slap each of his men. Sitting in a chair with his legs propped up, he asked exasperatedly, “Just two girls, and you couldn’t even catch them?”
“Senior Brother, those weren’t ordinary girls. It seemed… it seemed to be Ji Shutao of Beichen Mountain.”
Zhi Ming glared at him and said crossly, “And how would you know? How far is Beichen Mountain from here? Besides, you wouldn’t necessarily recognize Chen Li, let alone Ji Shutao.”
The man spoke up sheepishly, “I fought a match against Ji Shutao before; I recognize her.”
“Who won?”
The man froze, not understanding why Zhi Ming would ask that, but he still puffed out his chest and said proudly, “I did.”
Zhi Ming smacked him on the head. “And yet now, even with all these men, you still let her escape?”
Rubbing his head, he said aggrievedly, “She was holding the Demon Sovereign’s Qingyi Sword.”
Zhi Ming looked at his own bandaged arm, his gaze darkening. So that was the Demon Sovereign Zhuang Yi’s Qingyi Sword; no wonder its lethality was so great.
But how did the Demon Sovereign’s sword end up in Ji Shutao’s hands?
And who was the woman sleeping inside?
“Keep searching. Search to the ends of the earth if you must to find them. Also, Zhi Wu, go brew a bowl of fetal-stabilizing medicine.”
Zhi Wu was completely bewildered. He wondered if his senior brother’s head had been smacked silly, as he had actually heard him ask for fetal-stabilizing medicine.
He asked bluntly, “Senior Brother, are you… expecting?”
This time, Zhi Ming didn’t hold back his strength. After hitting him, he said viciously, “I think you don’t want that head of yours anymore.”
“I’m going, Senior Brother! I’ll be right back.”
Zhi Wu disappeared in an instant.
The woman in the room had suffered a disturbance to her pregnancy, but she was merely a frail woman carrying a child. Zhi Ming couldn’t understand where that magnificent aura of hers had come from.
She even knew he was a disciple of the Cangyou Pavilion. This small town was no longer a place they could stay for long.
Ji Shutao pulled Ye Xiaoge along, sprinting all the way to the mountain forest outside the town. Only after realizing no one was pursuing did she and Ye Xiaoge collapse to the ground.
“I’m exhausted.” Ji Shutao leaned against a tree, panting. “I’ve never run for my life like this in my entire existence.”
Ye Xiaoge was also drained. She looked at Ji Shutao with confusion. “Miss Ji, aren’t you a disciple of Beichen Mountain? Aren’t Beichen Mountain people all immortals? Why can’t you fly?”
Facing such a lethal trio of questions, Ji Shutao could only remain silent. Had she known it would come to this, she wouldn’t have been so playful back then.
“Naturally, it is because she was mischievous and didn’t practice her cultivation properly.”
Accompanied by this familiar voice, Ji Shutao’s head was tapped.
“Second Senior Brother, you have some nerve saying that to me you didn’t practice either.” Ji Shutao clutched her head and looked at the three people before her. “Seventh Senior Brother, why are you here too?”
Chen Li and Wu Huo had encountered Cun Ming, who was rushing toward them, while they were halfway there. Their meeting could be considered an unexpected reunion.
“When I received your letter, I happened to be with Eldest Senior Brother, so we came together.”
Ji Shutao asked mischievously, “What did he pick up this time?”
“Huh?” Wu Huo pretended not to understand.
“Even if I didn’t practice, I am still Second Senior Brother. You seem to have forgotten that this ranking is based on strength.” Cun Ming walked to Ji Shutao’s side. Seeing that she was still in one piece, he let out a sigh of relief.
“Whatever,” Ji Shutao muttered. “It’s clearly based on age.”
Chen Li, having been called out for both his age and his eccentricities, coughed once. “What exactly is going on here?”
With his keen observation skills, Chen Li naturally noticed the Qingyi Sword in Ji Shutao’s hand. This sword should not be with her.
