The Demon Lord Is Carrying My Child - Chapter 10
A dark night with high winds is the perfect time for murder and arson.
Standing beneath the corner of a wall, Ji Shutao gazed at the moon tightly shrouded by layers of clouds. This phrase unbiddenly crossed her mind, accompanied by a groundless yet ominous premonition.
The Ye Mansion in the darkness had lost its daytime prominence; instead, it exuded a hint of eeriness from every corner.
Ji Shutao found it strange. This was a residence of the living, clearly filled with human presence, yet she wondered where this chilly, desolate aura originated.
While Ji Shutao was momentarily distracted, Zhuang Yi had already leapt onto the eaves ahead of her. Standing atop the roof, Zhuang Yi appeared to Ji Shutao only as a blurred shadow.
The shadow reached out a hand toward her. Ji Shutao flew up to join her, grasping Zhuang Yi’s hand.
The two of them swiftly bypassed everything, heading straight for the rear courtyard where the female family members resided.
“I think you’ve all gone mad!”
This sentence was laced with infinite rage, followed immediately by the sound of breaking objects.
Ji Shutao and Zhuang Yi exchanged a glance. The commotion was coming from a room not far from them, and both decided to head over to investigate.
Ji Shutao cautiously lifted a roof tile. Through the gap, the space below appeared square and orderly it seemed to be a young lady’s boudoir. Standing by the table was a girl of about mid-teens; her surroundings were a complete mess. She held a vase in her hand and hurled it at the guards standing by the door. The vase smashed against the floor, shards flying everywhere and cutting the faces of some guards.
The girl felt a momentary flash of pity at the sight, but a moment later, her resolve hardened. She picked through the fragments at her feet, selected a shard, and held it against her snowy-white neck. The sight was heart-stopping.
“Go tell my father: if he doesn’t let me out of this door today, I will die right here.”
One guard stepped forward a couple of paces, offering a placating smile. “Third Miss, the shards are sharp. You should put it down.”
Seeing that they still refused to budge, the girl realized they were offering nothing but empty flattery. Steeling herself, she actually sliced into her own skin with the shard. Blood quickly began to seep out.
The girl glared coldly at all the guards, saying word for word: “If he won’t let me out, he will lose two daughters.”
The guards watched the blood with racing hearts. This was the Third Miss, the most pampered soul in the mansion. If anything happened to her, none of them could take the responsibility. No one had expected the habitually timid and pain-averse Third Miss to actually dare to harm herself. A few guards hurried away, presumably to find the master of the Ye Mansion.
Two daughters?
Ji Shutao instinctively felt that the other daughter mentioned was Ye Yiran. What did she mean by “losing two daughters”?
Seeing that the girl was willing to risk suicide to force her way out, Ye Yiran’s situation must be very dire.
Ji Shutao decided to stay a while longer; perhaps they would gain more information that would be beneficial for finding Ye Yiran.
Before long, a middle-aged man in brocade robes arrived in a hurry.
Looking at the wound on Ye Xiaoge’s neck and the seeping blood, Ye Tian’s breath nearly hitched. He stumbled forward a few steps, raising both hands in a soothing gesture, coaxing her softly: “Xiaoge, what are you doing? Listen to your father, put the shard down quickly.”
Ye Xiaoge remained firm: “I won’t. Unless you let me out, I will die here.”
“Xiaoge, what kind of talk is that? If you die, what will happen to your mother and me?” Ye Tian was grief-stricken, continuing to slowly edge closer to Ye Xiaoge.
“Don’t come any closer!” Ye Xiaoge shouted. She pressed the shard slightly deeper. Her hand was shaking uncontrollably; she was terrified, and the pain made her vision dim, but she could not give up.
In this mansion, she was now the only person who hadn’t given up on Ye Yiran.
“Fine, fine, fine,” Ye Tian was terrified and immediately stopped in his tracks. “I won’t come over. Xiaoge, don’t be agitated.”
“Let me out.”
“Xiaoge, listen to your father, alright? Put the shard down.”
“Father, am I your daughter?” Seeing that Ye Tian still refused to let her leave even at this stage, Ye Xiaoge asked with a heart as cold as dead ashes.
“Yes, you are my most beloved daughter.” There were tears in Ye Tian’s eyes, showing that he spoke the truth.
“But Father, Sister Yiran is also your daughter. How could you… how could you…” Ye Xiaoge’s tears slowly flowed down as she looked at Ye Tian with eyes that seemed to be looking at a stranger. “I want to go out. If you don’t allow it, I will die here.”
“Xiaoge, I cannot let you out.”
Just as Ye Tian said this, a guard who had been following closely at his side suddenly blurred toward Ye Xiaoge. With lightning speed, he struck the shard from her hand.
Ye Tian immediately lunged forward to hold Ye Xiaoge, turning to roar at the guard: “Quickly, go get a physician to dress the Miss’s wound!”
With her hair disheveled, Ye Xiaoge struggled hysterically: “Madmen! You are all madmen!”
Seeing Ye Xiaoge in such a state, how could Ye Tian not be heartbroken? He held her tightly until her strength was exhausted and she fainted.
He ordered the maidservants to take good care of her. The guards were not withdrawn; in fact, he even left that specific guard behind.
That guard’s movements just now had been like a ghost he was definitely no ordinary person. At the very least, he was not a mortal.
Ji Shutao thought about it and decided it was better not to fight him directly. She pulled Zhuang Yi along to follow Ye Tian instead.
Perhaps Ye Tian’s next step would be to go to Ye Yiran’s courtyard.
Sure enough, Ye Tian turned and entered another courtyard. That courtyard was surrounded by layers of guards, including several individuals similar to that previous guard. It would be very difficult for Ji Shutao and Zhuang Yi to enter while evading everyone.
If Ye Yiran was in this courtyard, why would such a large number of people be needed to guard a weak woman?
If Ye Yiran was not in this courtyard, then Ye Xiaoge’s hysterical behavior would not make sense.
The Ye Mansion held too many mysteries. Ji Shutao resolved that she must find a way inside tomorrow.
“Delay leads to complications,” Zhuang Yi said, pointing at the moon above. The moon remained hidden behind the dark clouds, which was not a good omen. “We either force our way in now, or we go and kidnap the other one.”
Zhuang Yi had a point. Ever since entering, a bad feeling had been lingering in Ji Shutao’s heart, and her heart was still hanging in suspense.
“Let’s go kidnap Ye Xiaoge.”
Dealing with one was better than dealing with over a dozen.
Ji Shutao and Zhuang Yi retraced their steps. Although they had made up their minds, they still wanted to keep the noise to a minimum. Ji Shutao would lead the charge from the front, while Zhuang Yi would strike by surprise.
As for the ordinary guards on the perimeter, it was easy for Ji Shutao to knock them unconscious.
Just as they were about to move, Ji Shutao urged Zhuang Yi once more, worried: “Don’t consume too much of your cultivation later. If it really doesn’t work, we’ll run if we can’t win. Nothing is more important than you.”
Not only was Zhuang Yi stunned, but even Ji Shutao herself was startled by her own words.
Nothing is more important than you. If she had to say it a second time, she wouldn’t be able to get the words out.
To hide her embarrassment, Ji Shutao leapt into the courtyard and began to act. In less than half a incense stick’s time, she had silently dealt with the guards at the door.
After pushing the door open, she lunged forward with Zhuang Yi’s sword. Her first strike was unexpected, wounding the guard’s arm.
The guard reacted quickly. Within moments, he had gained the upper hand over Ji Shutao.
Zhuang Yi strained to set up a formation, trapping the man inside, and then activated her magic. Seeing that the person had been rescued, Ji Shutao didn’t linger to fight; she estimated that the others would be arriving soon.
However, that guard turned out to be an expert in formations. Breaking out of that particular array was far too easy for him.
Zhuang Yi applied her spiritual power, using her magic to push both Ji Shutao and Ye Xiaoge out.
An abrupt change occurred. Ji Shutao didn’t even have time to grab Zhuang Yi’s hand before she was sent flying out of the Ye Mansion by Zhuang Yi’s spell.
