The Daily Life of a Male God Teasing a Shou - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
After the meeting adjourned, taking advantage of the leads getting their makeup done, Yan Yifan and Bai Jiangnan went to have breakfast first at a small shop nearby. The steamed dumplings there were exceptionally fresh and flavorful; Yan Yifan ate his fill but still felt he hadn’t had enough.
Though they had only been together for two days, Yan Yifan had already managed to “eat delicious tofu” (flirt/touch) several times, which stimulated him to the point of feeling like he was walking on air. With a lingering smile on his lips, his mood was incredibly good.
If this was how the work environment would be from now on, it seemed there was nothing he couldn’t handle. Yan Yifan chuckled inwardly: Bai Jiangnan, you’re such a straight man with zero psychological defenses; how could you possibly realize you’ve already been taken advantage of by me several times? Your purity is already in grave danger, ah-hahahahahaha!
Yan Yifan was fantasizing about the happy days to come and had no mind to deal with other matters. He hadn’t even noticed the fact that his girlfriend, Shen Leilei, had not arrived at the film set until now.
The two of them strolled back to the set. Sure enough, the female lead’s makeup wasn’t finished. Bai Jiangnan went over to her, while Yan Yifan leisurely headed to the screenwriters’ internal studio.
Before entering the studio, he noticed that this floor possessed a level of silence that stood out from the rest of the set. Yan Yifan was wondering if he had gone to the wrong place until he pushed open the door and saw the tense atmosphere inside.
It looked like a white-collar office with cubicles; everyone had their own desk. Almost everyone had their heads down, looking at thick “brick-like” books. No one even looked up when they heard the creak of the door opening.
Yan Yifan backed out to check the sign on the door; it was indeed the screenwriters’ studio. He looked back inside and spotted An Shaotao.
Yan Yifan walked in. An Shaotao lifted his gaze from the computer screen, glanced at him, and said, “Go and get the Dictionary of Ancient Chinese.”
“Hmm?” Yan Yifan looked around and realized An Shaotao was speaking to him. He froze for a moment and turned to look around. Where was the Dictionary of Ancient Chinese?
As Yan Yifan stood there dazed, An Shaotao said, “The bookshelf against the inner wall, third shelf from the top.”
Yan Yifan gave a nonchalant “ah,” his gaze slowly drifting around the room before finally landing on the bookshelf. He walked over and randomly pulled out a book Dream of the Red Chamber. He flipped through a few pages and started reading with great interest; in the past, he had no interest in such things, but since he started writing novels, he could occasionally get into them a little.
“Did you find it?” Shaotao asked.
Yan Yifan put Dream of the Red Chamber back and searched the third shelf. Soon, he found it. The Dictionary of Ancient Chinese. Yan Yifan pulled it out, walked over, and placed it on An Shaotao’s desk.
Without lifting his head, An Shaotao picked up the dictionary, flipped through it rapidly, and then started deleting and editing things on the computer. Yan Yifan felt very bored and was just about to sit down and play with his phone when An Shaotao closed the dictionary, walked over to put it back on the shelf, and then said to him: “Follow me to a meeting.”
Yan Yifan had no idea that being dragged out this time would result in a week of meetings—all kinds of meetings, all kinds of grinding through the plot. Every meeting was a gamble between the investors, the film crew, the celebrities, and the production team. Hearing them argue all day long made Yan Yifan’s head feel twice its size. Even though he hadn’t read the novel or the script and didn’t understand any of the plot, after round after round of meetings, he had been injected with countless professional terms and had even gained some understanding of the plot and the weight of the characters behind the scenes.
A week later, the crew took a day off.
Yan Yifan originally wanted to stay in the hotel to sleep and play games all day, but unexpectedly, his girlfriend Shen Leilei called him out.
“I haven’t seen you for a week! It’s finally a holiday, accompany me!” Shen Leilei acted spoiled like this.
Yan Yifan was someone whose bark was worse than his bite; his temper seemed easygoing, but he was actually very susceptible to persuasion but resistant to coercion. As soon as Shen Leilei pleaded, he agreed. After all, who told him to use the girl as a shield? Every time he thought about it, Yan Yifan felt he had wronged her. Therefore, he was very tolerant of every girlfriend he had, nearly granting every request.
Thus, early in the morning, Yan Yifan got up and yawned. After scratching his hair which was as messy as a chicken coop, he entered the bathroom with a dazed, “not-yet-awake” expression.
After finally making himself presentable enough to see people, Yan Yifan drove to pick up Shen Leilei.
As soon as Shen Leilei got into the car, she didn’t stop for a second. She talked about how she wasn’t liked by people in the crew, how the maid was just a minor role with only thirty or forty scenes, and how her high school friend had already become a Best Actress winner while she was still stuck in the same place. As she spoke, she grew aggrieved, and tears even welled up in her large eyes. She looked at Yan Yifan pitifully: “Why is my luck so bad? If only I had been more motivated earlier. I was just too naive in the past…”
Yan Yifan listened to her nagging all the way and finally couldn’t help but let out a yawn, teary-eyed and ready to wipe them away.
“Yan Yifan!” Shen Leilei screamed, glaring at him, clearly dissatisfied with his casual demeanor.
Yan Yifan quickly said with a smile, “It’s nothing. You’ve finally taken the first step; just study the acting skills of the seniors and the production of the crew well.”
Shen Leilei glared at him, suppressing the fire in her heart. How can this man be so oblivious? Does he really not understand my meaning? Since he is the young master of Shengyi Entertainment Media Co., Ltd., the top company in the entertainment industry, doesn’t he have any real power in his hands? It’s embarrassing to even say it his own girlfriend can only be a small maid in his own company’s project!
Shen Leilei was dissatisfied in her heart but didn’t want to lose this “sucker” of a wealthy husband, so she had no choice but to shut up to avoid losing her temper at him.
The two were silent for the rest of the way. Once they arrived at the mall, Shen Leilei was still holding in her anger, so she tried things on and bought them all the way, money flowing out like water. By noon, she finally felt a bit better in her heart and gave Yan Yifan a sincere smile. “I’m so tired, let’s go eat.”
Yan Yifan had been walking all morning and his feet were aching. Hearing this, he quickly took Shen Leilei to the Western restaurant on the top floor. It wasn’t until the moment he sat down that he couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. Shen Leilei could really shop!
The menu was handed over, they ate their meal, and Yan Yifan’s soles were still very sore. He didn’t want to walk anymore and said, “Should we go watch a movie? The latest work of the Best Actor Hu Laiming, My Daughter, was just released. There are many talented actors in it, and I heard the plot is okay; we can go and analyze their acting skills.”
Shen Leilei had called him out just to buy, buy, buy how could she be willing to go watch some movie? She bit her lip and said, “I have one more shop I haven’t been to. I already made an agreement with them; they specifically saved the latest model for me.”
She left it at that, and Yan Yifan didn’t force it. He handed her a card and said, “Then I’ll head to my brother’s office for a bit. There’s 100,000 in there; take it and use it to quench their thirst (buy whatever you want).”
The two went their separate ways, both satisfied.
After Yan Yifan left the mall, he didn’t want to go find his brother at all and drove straight to his best friend’s house.
The friend was named Lu Liming. They were in the same dormitory in high school, and both had just discovered their sexual orientation at a time when they were very afraid and sensitive. Since then, their relationship had been very good, except later Lu Liming entered the entertainment industry while he was still hanging around under his brother’s wing.
Before Yan Yifan arrived, he gave his friend a call and learned he was still recording a variety show, so he very generously told him to come back later; it was the perfect time for him to go over and take a nap.
Lu Liming’s house was in a highly private community on the Second Ring Road. Yan Yifan drove there following the familiar route. He opened the door and flopped down in the guest room, sleeping soundly. By the time he woke up, it was already past five in the afternoon.
Lu Liming heard the noise and walked out dripping wet in a bathrobe. Yan Yifan let out a yawn, his tuft of hair trembling along with it. “You’re back.”
Lu Liming asked, “Didn’t you sleep yesterday? I heard you snoring as soon as I got back.”
Yan Yifan: “I absolutely have to vent to you. An Shaotao is a real workaholic. He drags me to meetings all day long and treats me like a little assistant. From eight in the morning until nine or ten at night, and I have to do the meeting minutes when I get back. My god, my head is spinning from the meetings. Every day I want to ask: Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?”
Lu Liming was stunned: “No way?”
Yan Yifan threw himself onto the sofa, popped a liquor chocolate into his mouth, and said, “That’s why I didn’t sleep until one last night! And early this morning I went shopping with Shen Leilei; my feet are sore from all that walking!”
Lu Liming took a bottle of mineral water from the fridge and asked, “No way, didn’t you get a girlfriend just to fool your old brother? You don’t need to be this thorough, right? It’s fine to turn her down once, isn’t it?”
Yan Yifan: “I always feel I’ve wronged her. Anyway, I had nothing to do, so if she wants company, I’ll give it to her!”
Lu Liming snorted coldly. “You’re looking for trouble. What’s wrong with coming clean to your brother early? Don’t come here to complain to me.”
Yan Yifan sprawled on the sofa. “By the way, how’s that variety show of yours?”
Lu Liming: “It’s alright.”
Yan Yifan: “Didn’t you say that black-faced models are always targeting you?”
Lu Liming said awkwardly, “Maybe I misunderstood before; he’s not targeting me that much.”
Yan Yifan became interested. “Come on, tell me about it!”
Lu Liming gave him a sideways glance. “I haven’t asked yet how is Bai Jiangnan?”
Yan Yifan’s face turned red. He said, “Hehe, you have no idea. Flirting with a straight man is so interesting!”
Lu Liming jerked his head, signaling for him to continue.
Yan Yifan said, “He doesn’t even know I took advantage of him. I touched his abs out in the open!”
Lu Liming’s mouth twitched. “Wipe that lewd look off your face.”
Yan Yifan’s smile was extremely obnoxious. “I even saw his JJ.” Yan Yifan made a face like he couldn’t take it anymore: “Super big!”
Lu Liming had a complicated expression (==): “…He looks all decent, but I heard he’s quite scheming. Don’t get tricked and come crying to me later. Stay alert!”
Yan Yifan held his face and giggled foolishly, clearly not taking the words to heart.
Lu Liming couldn’t stand his stupid look, so he grabbed a game controller and said, “Want to play?”
Yan Yifan jumped up quickly, and the two started playing games.
