The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 34.3
Ming Rui flinched under her gaze and instinctively fell silent.
Unaware of the strange tension between the two, Song Qingpei said softly, “Song Song, it’s time to go home.”
Song Song nodded obediently. “Okay.”
Without another word, Ming Yu turned and walked out. Song Qingpei took Song Song’s hand and followed behind her.
Watching their retreating figures, Ming Rui frowned slightly, a vague unease stirring within her.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that Ming Yu seemed different after returning from Dr. Gong’s place. Come to think of it, it had always been like this every time her cousin came back from Dr. Gong, she seemed a little different from how Ming Rui remembered her.
Was it just her imagination?
The atmosphere in the car on the way back was heavy and tense.
Seated in the back, Song Qingpei couldn’t help stealing glances at Ming Yu, her emotions complicated. She knew she shouldn’t, but she couldn’t help it.
Her heart softened.
Especially when she thought of Ming Yu in her “Mengmeng” state, her heart ached even more. She could remain indifferent to the aloof General Ming Yu, but facing Ming Yu as she was now, she found it impossible to stay detached.
“Ming Yu!” Song Qingpei began softly, a note of hesitation in her voice. “Is your relationship with your parents not very good?”
Ming Yu kept her eyes fixed ahead, her tone distant. “My family matters are none of your concern.”
Song Qingpei was instantly silenced, the small amount of sympathy she had felt vanishing in an instant.
Hah, she shouldn’t have overestimated herself. With that foul mouth of hers, Ming Yu deserved to grow old alone, without a wife for the rest of her life.
Not another word was exchanged between them for the rest of the journey.
Sitting between them, Song Song tilted her little face, looking first at Song Qingpei, then at Ming Yu. Propping her chin in her hands, she let out a long sigh that seemed far too mature for her age.
Sigh, Mom and Mommy must be angry again. So annoying.
Once they arrived home, Ming Yu strode straight to the study and said coldly to Song Qingpei, “Come with me. There’s something I need to discuss.”
Though irritated, Song Qingpei followed her into the study.
Inside, Ming Yu stood by the window, her back to Song Qingpei, and said in a commanding tone, “Song Qingpei, I want you to resign from your job at Blue Sea.”
After all their arguments, she hadn’t expected Ming Yu to still be fixated on this.
But in this matter, she would never back down. For her, this wasn’t just a job, it was a career she loved, an opportunity to prove herself, and her only leverage to secure custody of Song Song.
Song Qingpei didn’t want to argue with Ming Yu again, so she suppressed her anger and tried to reason with her.
“I’m doing well at Blue Sea. Why are you so insistent on making me resign?”
But ever since returning from the old mansion, Ming Yu seemed like a completely different person. Not only had she lost her patience, but she had also abandoned her recent efforts to be amiable toward Song Qingpei, adopting a domineering tone instead. “There’s no reason. I don’t want you working there anymore, and I don’t want you interacting with Murong Ruixue. You don’t need to ask further just resign.”
Those words were infuriating.
Ming Yu wasn’t discussing this with her, she was issuing a command, as if treating Song Qingpei like a subordinate, delivering an order from on high that could not be defied.
A surge of anger rose in Song Qingpei’s heart. Clenching her teeth, she said, “Ming Yu, can’t you show me even a little respect?”
“I’m doing this for your own good,” Ming Yu insisted.
Hearing this, Song Qingpei almost laughed in disbelief. “Are you really doing this for my good? Or are you just trying to control me?”
Ming Yu’s brow furrowed slightly, a flicker of conflict in her eyes, but it quickly vanished as she resumed her authoritative stance. “Song Qingpei, you need to understand my decisions are not up for debate.”
Song Qingpei froze at those words.
It had been a long time since Ming Yu had spoken to her in such a commanding tone. Combined with her recent attempts at reconciliation, Song Qingpei had foolishly begun to believe that this person could be reasoned with, that she was open to communication.
But now it seemed Ming Yu was still the same person she had always been she had just hidden it well.
Thinking of their intimacy the night before, Song Qingpei felt a pang of heartache. “You, why have you become like this again?”
“Like what?” Ming Yu understood her meaning and let out a cold laugh. “Song Qingpei, do you expect me to keep fawning over you like ‘Mengmeng’? Let me make this clear that’s impossible.”
Song Qingpei stared at Ming Yu in shock, a storm of complicated emotions swirling inside her.
“Mengmeng?” Her voice trembled uncontrollably. “You, you really remember? What exactly is going on?”
Ming Yu’s gaze remained calm, without a trace of evasion.
She looked directly at Song Qingpei and confessed openly, “Mengmeng was a state of amnesia I experienced after undergoing hypnosis. Since you kept saying how much you missed the version of me who had lost her memory, and since I couldn’t bring myself to grovel and fawn over you like that, I had to let her out to ease the tension between us.”
Song Qingpei’s pupils contracted sharply, as if she had been struck by something heavy.
Grovel? Fawn?
How dare she twist the truth! Ming Yu actually thought Mengmeng’s behavior was an act of fawning over her?
But when she first met Mengmeng, that was exactly how she was innocent, clingy, gentle, with a touch of childishness, completely different from the Ming Yu standing before her now.
That was why she had firmly believed that once Ming Yu regained her memories, Mengmeng was gone forever.
It had taken her three years to come to terms with that reality. Yet Ming Yu, for her own selfish reasons, had given her hope again, letting her see the person she had longed for day and night. And just as she was sinking into that illusion, Ming Yu shattered the dream with a single, careless sentence.
Trembling, Song Qingpei demanded, “Why did you deceive me like this?”
Ming Yu found it difficult to comprehend her persistence.
Whether it was the amnesiac ‘Mengmeng’ or the current her, weren’t they both the same person? What difference did it make?
Her brows slightly furrowed, a trace of irritation in her tone: “Song Qingpei, you were the one who insisted that Mengmeng was dead, that we couldn’t go back to the past. Since that’s the case, why not let ‘Mengmeng’ reappear so we can coexist harmoniously? What’s wrong with that?”
“It’s not the same!”
Song Qingpei’s voice suddenly rose sharply, “Ming Yu, do you even know what love is?”
“Love is unique!”
“Even if ‘Mengmeng’ was just a state you were in after losing your memory, it was in that state that we fell in love. I would rather believe our love died the moment you regained your memories than face the distortion of the person I once loved into what you are now.”
Song Qingpei’s heart felt as if it had been violently torn apart, a suffocating pain washing over her.
For the first time, she expressed her emotions so intensely, nearly roaring in anger: “Let me tell you! Ming Yu, I despise this kind of deception, and I will never like the current you devoid of any empathy never! From now on, we go our separate ways. Don’t interfere in my life anymore, and I won’t resign either!”
“Aside from Song Song, we have no connection left!”
Ming Yu was momentarily moved by her anger, but it lasted only a second before she returned to her domineering self.
Without hesitation, she dismissed Song Qingpei’s words, her tone leaving no room for argument: “Song Qingpei, I need you to mark me during my heat cycle, and Song Song needs her mother by her side. Starting today, you are forbidden from working at Blue Sea and from having any contact with Murong Ruixue.”
Furious at her unreasonable demands, Song Qingpei retorted, “Ming Yu, you have no right to control me! I won’t obey you!”
At this, Ming Yu’s gaze turned dangerous: “Song Qingpei, don’t push me.”
The atmosphere between them instantly grew tense, as if an unspoken war was brewing.
In the end, Song Qingpei gritted her teeth, turned around, and stormed out of the study.
Her heart was filled with rage and disappointment, as if a beautiful dream had been cruelly shattered.
The next day was Saturday, originally a day off, but Song Qingpei had agreed to work overtime to repair a mecha.
So, as usual, she had breakfast and prepared to head to work.
However, when she reached the door, she found several soldiers in black uniforms blocking her path.
They stood expressionless before her like an insurmountable wall, and Song Qingpei’s face instantly turned ashen.
“Step aside!” she snapped sharply. “You have no right to restrict my freedom!”
The lead soldier spoke respectfully but firmly: “Miss Song, General Ming has instructed that, for your safety, you are not to leave the estate for the time being.”
“Safety?” Song Qingpei sneered coldly. “More like imprisonment! What right does Ming Yu have to do this?”
The guards remained silent, steadfastly blocking her way.
Trembling with anger, Song Qingpei pulled out her phone and dialed Ming Yu’s number.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered, and Ming Yu’s voice came through: “What is it?”
“Ming Yu, what is the meaning of this?” Song Qingpei struggled to contain her fury. “What gives you the right to restrict my personal freedom?”
“I’ve told you, it’s for your safety,” Ming Yu’s voice remained calm. “It’s been chaotic outside lately. Staying in the estate is the safest option for you.”
“Stop with that excuse!” Song Qingpei finally exploded. “Safety? You just want to control me! Ming Yu, you’ve gone too far!”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Ming Yu’s voice turned cold. “Just stay quietly in the estate and keep Song’ company. Wait for me to return.”
“You!”
Before Song Qingpei could say more, the call was disconnected.
“Ming Yu, you bastard!”
