- Chapter 3 - The Fever Period Arrived Early
Little Song Song was quite clever, she had been hiding by the door, secretly listening to the commotion outside.
What were Mama and Mommy talking about?
Unfortunately, the voices were too muffled through the door for her to make out clearly. She could only faintly hear the two of them repeatedly saying “daughter,” and Mama’s voice was unusually loud, not at all like the gentle tone she used when speaking to her.
And that pretty auntie no, the new Mommy she sounded fierce and a little scary.
Were they arguing?
And they kept mentioning “daughter” that had to be her. Were they arguing because of her?
Song Song grew anxious and quietly cracked the door open a sliver, stealthily poking her little head out to hear better.
She leaned in closer, but why still couldn’t she hear clearly?
Frustrated, Song Song opened the door a little wider and craned her neck further out.
But then, she lost her balance. Her short little legs got tangled, and—
Thump!
She tumbled right out of the doorway, landing face-first on the floor in a clumsy heap.
“Waaah!”
Song Song let out a soft, milky cry.
Hearing the sound, both women rushed over almost simultaneously.
Ming Yu was quicker and more agile, reaching Song Song first and helping her up from the floor. She carefully looked her over. “Song Song, are you okay?”
Wahh~ so embarrassing.
A little ashamed, Song Song hung her head and mumbled softly, “I’m okay.”
Noticing her embarrassment, Song Qingpei deliberately teased her, “What’s wrong, Song Song? Practicing somersaults?”
Song Song’s face flushed red. “Mama, stop it!”
Thanks to this little mishap, the tense atmosphere between the two women was broken, and a temporary balance was restored.
Seeing that neither of them was speaking, Song Song blinked in confusion.
So strange. Why don’t Mama and Mommy act all lovey-dovey like the couples on TV? Shouldn’t they be hugging and kissing?
Unable to hold back, she turned to Song Qingpei with a serious question. “Mama, were you and Mommy arguing just now?”
Song Qingpei froze, thinking Song Song had overheard their earlier dispute, and quickly explained, “Song Song, we were just talking a bit loudly. We weren’t arguing.” After saying this, she instinctively glanced at Ming Yu.
Immediately, she regretted it there was no way the now memory-restored Ming Yu would play along with her act.
But to her surprise, Ming Yu actually chimed in, “Don’t worry, Song Song, we weren’t arguing.”
This only confused the little one even more. She tilted her head and muttered to herself, “So weird. If you weren’t arguing, then why aren’t Mama and Mommy hugging and kissing? Shouldn’t Mommy be crying in Mama’s arms, saying, ‘Wahh! I missed you so much,’ and then Mama holds her and says, ‘Don’t cry, baby, I missed you too,’ and then they kiss.”
As Ming Yu’s expression grew increasingly stormy, Song Qingpei quickly covered Song Song’s chattering little mouth.
Song Song’s eyes widened. “Mmmph mmmph~”
Looking thoroughly embarrassed, Song Qingpei patiently explained, “Song Song, those are just things from TV shows. You can’t take them seriously. No more nonsense, okay?”
Ming Yu swatted away the hand covering Song Song’s mouth and shot Song Qingpei a glare. “What kind of inappropriate stuff have you been letting Song Song watch? Is this how you’ve been raising her these past three years?”
Song Qingpei: …
They’re just some cheesy soap operas, do you have to make such a big deal out of it?
Song Qingpei was left speechless, but Ming Yu was deeply dissatisfied with her indifferent attitude. Her expression cold, she said, “Song Qingpei, I don’t care if you don’t strive to improve yourself, but Song Song will definitely receive proper training when she returns. Please refrain from interfering with her education from now on.” The disdain in her words was unmistakable.
Song Qingpei knew that ever since Ming Yu regained her memories, she had looked down on her. But that didn’t mean she would accept such condescending criticism. Frowning, she retorted, “I admit, you are far more accomplished than I am, but that doesn’t mean I have to unconditionally accept—”
“Song Qingpei, you have no right to negotiate with me.”
Ming Yu’s tone was almost cruel as she mocked, “The excuses of the weak are nothing more than justifications for their incompetence.”
The words cut deep, and Song Qingpei, provoked beyond reason, lashed out, “Hah! It’s best not to be so harsh. Even someone as powerful as General Ming Yu had her moments of disgrace stranded on a garbage planet, utterly humiliated.”
Ming Yu gritted out two words through clenched teeth, “Shut up!”
The garbage planet was the shame of her life, a scar that could never be touched.
Especially when she recalled how she had humbly begged for affection from an inferior Alpha, even crying, pleading, and losing herself beneath them, the memory made her seethe with rage.
And now, this inferior Alpha dared to speak recklessly in front of her? It was an insult. One day, she would make her pay dearly for all of this.
A sharp glint flashed in Ming Yu’s eyes, and Song Qingpei could clearly sense her murderous intent, as intense as it had been when she first regained her memories.
Even after all this time, her heart still ached with a dull, persistent pain, as if the softest part of her soul had been exposed, ready to be torn open at any moment, leaving her in agony.
Unconsciously, her hand clenched the hem of her clothes, her knuckles turning white as she balled her fist tightly, as though trying to suppress the turmoil within.
Ming Yu didn’t notice Song Qingpei’s distress.
She sneered, enunciating each word as if forcing them through her teeth, “Song Qingpei, I’m warning you for the last time, do not provoke me.”
In the midst of their standoff, Song Song, who had finally snapped out of her fear, cautiously glanced between the two. Tears welled up in her large eyes.
Trembling, she looked up and pleaded in a tearful voice, “Please don’t fight, okay?”
Ming Yu’s anger hadn’t subsided, but for the sake of her young daughter, she suppressed her displeasure and shot a warning glare at Song Qingpei.
In that instant, Song Qingpei suddenly regretted her words. She shouldn’t have provoked Ming Yu.
After all, the moment Ming Yu regained her memories, the wife who had loved her and been loved in return was gone. Now, she was the lofty Imperial General, and being marked by an inferior Alpha was her greatest shame. If not for their daughter tying them together, Ming Yu might have killed her long ago.
Seeing Song Song’s pitiful, distressed expression, Song Qingpei’s heart ached. She quickly bent down to pick her up, soothing her gently, “Alright, we won’t fight anymore, sweetheart. Please don’t cry, okay?”
Song Song sniffled and nodded obediently, “Mm! Song Song will be good. No more fighting.”
Seeing her stop crying, Song Qingpei let out a long sigh of relief. The intense emotions in her eyes had already faded into stillness as she calmly looked at Ming Yu. “I won’t bring up anything from the past again, but regarding Song Song’s education, I hope you won’t be too extreme. Song Song is only three years old, she needs an adjustment period. You can’t rush things.”
Ming Yu replied indifferently, “You have no right to tell me what to do.”
Without paying Song Qingpei any further attention, she bent down and reached out to Song Song, softening her voice as she said, “Song Song, would you like to go pilot a mecha with Mommy?”
Song Song, who had been shrinking her head like a little mushroom, immediately perked up at the word “mecha.” Her little head bobbed eagerly. “Yes, yes!.” Halfway through her excitement, she remembered to ask Song Qingpei, “Mommy, can I go pilot a mecha with Mommy?”
Could she say no? Song Qingpei had no choice but to nod helplessly.
“Let’s go, then.” Ming Yu picked up Song Song and headed toward the door.
Outside, seven or eight heavily armed soldiers stood at the ready.
“General,” several soldiers saluted respectfully.
When they caught sight of the child in Ming Yu’s arms, they exchanged strange looks but wisely refrained from asking any questions.
Ming Yu’s expression remained impassive. “Return to the starship.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
The soldiers responded in unison, falling into step beside her.
Ming Yu carried Song Song steadily, her pace brisk, as if she couldn’t wait to leave this place she despised.
Completely ignored, Song Qingpei didn’t even have time to pack her belongings. She hurriedly chased after them to the elevator, fearing that if she were even a second later, Ming Yu would gladly leave her behind.
The group first took a military vehicle to the N69 Star military base, then boarded the Feiyun, a starship belonging to the Seventh Fleet, and set off into space.
It was a state-of-the-art Class A combat carrier, equipped with a powerful defense system and advanced weaponry. Capable of housing five hundred mechas and fully equipped with all necessary facilities, it was a top-tier interstellar warship personally crafted by Ming Yu.
When Song Qingpei laid eyes on the colossal vessel, she was utterly awestruck.
Ming Yu, however, was busy. Upon boarding the starship, she assigned Lieutenant Lin to escort Song Qingpei and her daughter to their quarters. She then changed into her military uniform to meet with the starship’s senior officers.
The military conference lasted until 2 a.m. As the attendees dispersed, Ming Yu wearily rubbed her throbbing temples and stood to leave.
Just outside the conference room, Lieutenant Lin, who had been waiting, stepped forward to report, “General, I’ve arranged for Ms. Song and her daughter to stay in your private quarters.”
Ming Yu narrowed her eyes slightly. “What?”
Song Song naturally belonged in her quarters, but that woman.
She didn’t deserve it.
Sensing Ming Yu’s intense displeasure, Lieutenant Lin broke into a cold sweat and quickly corrected himself, “I shouldn’t have taken the liberty. I’ll have them moved immediately.”
Ming Yu pressed her lips together. Thinking of her daughter’s attachment to Song Qingpei, she fell silent for a moment before replying coldly, “Forget it. Let her stay there for now.”
Lieutenant Lin breathed a sigh of relief and nodded hastily. “Yes, ma’am!”
“Lieutenant Lin, you’re dismissed for the night,” Ming Yu said, waving a hand.
“Yes, General.”
Saluting, Lieutenant Lin turned and quickly departed.
Ming Yu walked through the corridor and headed straight back to her own quarters. The cabin was quite spacious, consisting of two bedrooms, a study, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room, all designed in a simple yet elegant style.
She took off her coat and set it aside, her expression wary as she scanned her surroundings. She disliked having her private space invaded.
That woman at least had some self-awareness and had taken the initiative to sleep in the side bedroom. Frowning, Ming Yu entered her own bedroom and stood by the window, gazing out at the starry night sky in the distance.
A glimmer of starlight twinkled, as if trying to win her favor, yet a faint sense of unease slowly began to rise within her.
Her heat was still three days away, but her body, having been fully marked, had long since succumbed to its desires. As the saying goes, “once you’ve tasted marrow, you know its flavor” she could no longer resist the craving.
For the past two years, she had relied on suppressants to curb her body’s urges. But as the dosage increased, the effectiveness only diminished. Even her doctor had repeatedly warned her: push too hard, and things will backfire. If she continued to suppress herself like this, it would inevitably erupt, and the consequences would only be worse.
Her heat was arriving earlier and earlier. She didn’t know how much longer she could hold on, but she absolutely refused to beg that inferior Alpha for relief, to be pinned beneath her and lose herself in the process.
Whether it was the thought of such things that stirred her pheromones, a sudden wave of inexplicable heat surged through her body, making her gasp softly. Instinctively, Ming Yu unbuttoned the front of her shirt, trying to cool herself down.
But it was no use. The aroused pheromones slowly spread, quickly causing her body temperature to spike. The sensation, like ants crawling under her skin, made it almost impossible for her to maintain control. She couldn’t hold back a muffled groan of restraint.
Cursing under her breath, she dug her fingernails into her palm. The sharp pain brought a moment of clarity. Taking a deep breath, Ming Yu steadied herself before getting up to retrieve a suppressant.
This heat seemed more intense than usual her hands trembled as she reached for the suppressant.
With a self-punishing ferocity, she ripped open her shirt, two buttons popping off from the force. Without hesitation, she injected the suppressant, waiting for the inner turmoil to gradually subside.
But unlike before, the agitation that should have faded quickly did not disappear. Instead, it seemed to grow even stronger.
A potent wave of pheromones rapidly filled the air, as if testing something. Soon, the faint scent of an Alpha’s pheromones drifted in, thread by thread, as if responding to hers.
Ming Yu couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.
This scent, it was so familiar.
Song Qingpei!
Gnashing the name between her teeth, Ming Yu rose woodenly and fetched another suppressant.
Expressionless, she sat on the sofa and forcefully injected the second dose, trying to forcibly suppress the reactions within her body and make this wretched heat pass quickly.
But it was no use. Even with the second suppressant, the heat only subsided slightly.
That faint, tingling sensation continued to burn slowly at her sensitive nerves, causing her usually cool eyes to gradually take on a flush of desire. Ming Yu closed her eyes in frustration, her dark lashes trembling slightly.
Knock, knock, knock.
Just as Ming Yu was trying to rest with her eyes closed, someone knocked on her door.
Her eyes snapped open, and she growled, “Song Qingpei!”
The person outside paused. “It’s me.”
Hearing this, Ming Yu’s pupils abruptly constricted, her voice hoarse as she spat, “Get in here!”
A moment passed, but the smart door remained unresponsive.
Annoyed at her own lapse in judgment, Ming Yu suppressed her anger and said, “Please enter!”
“Command recognized.”
The smart door slid open obediently.
Outside stood Song Qingpei, still in the same clothes she had arrived in, her face slightly flushed and her brows furrowed with barely concealed irritation.
This was ridiculous releasing pheromones in the middle of the night! If it weren’t for knowing Ming Yu’s deep-seated disdain and disgust toward her, she might have suspected the other woman was trying to seduce her.
What on earth was Ming Yu up to, acting so erratically in the dead of night?!
Song Qingpei shot a strange glance inside, about to speak, when the provocative scene before her stunned her into silence.
Ming Yu, clad in a black military uniform with gold accents and polished boots, sat rigidly on the sofa. The crisp neatness of her lower half starkly contrasted with the disarray above. Her white shirt hung wide open, unashamedly revealing, and under the light, the full curve of her cleavage was faintly visible, stirring the imagination.
Her head was tilted back slightly, her fair, slender neck like carved jade. The icy glint usually present in her eyes was now replaced by a redness at the corners, hints of arousal flickering within, a clear sign she was in the throes of pheromone-induced desire.
“Ahem, ahem…” Song Qingpei coughed dryly and quickly turned her back.
Ming Yu glanced down at her shirt, the buttons long gone, and didn’t bother to pull it closed. Hah, they’d already done everything there was to do, what was the point in pretending now?
Her gaze swept over Song Qingpei standing outside the door, her voice cold as if emerging from an ice cavern. “Song Qingpei, rein in your pheromones now.”
This was sheer blame-shifting!
Song Qingpei nearly laughed in disbelief. “It was your pheromones that woke me up in the middle of the night! Mine only got like this because I couldn’t help it!”
She phrased it delicately, not wanting to provoke a direct confrontation over such an awkward matter.
Meanwhile, Ming Yu sat on the sofa, her expression blank as she stared at Song Qingpei. “My heat cycle is approaching. I’m in a sensitive phase and can’t handle Alpha pheromones. So, either control yours immediately or go get an Alpha suppressant injection. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to have you permanently disabled.”
Song Qingpei stared at her in disbelief, finally managing to choke out, “It’s your pheromones that caused this. Are you even listening to reason?”
“My orders are reason.”
Ming Yu’s words were frosty. “You have ten minutes to handle it, or I’ll call the military medic to remove your glands myself.”
Song Qingpei was so furious she nearly spat blood, but she knew this heartless woman meant every word. Reluctantly, she said, “Give me a suppressant.”
“Go find Lieutenant Lin. I don’t have Alpha suppressants here.”
Ming Yu remained seated upright, though a slight tremble in her voice betrayed her. “You have nine minutes left.”
“I…” Damn it!
Song Qingpei swallowed the curse she wanted to shout and turned to find Lieutenant Lin for the suppressant.
As her hurried footsteps faded, the smart cabin door slowly closed, cutting off the Alpha’s pheromones. The tension in Ming Yu’s body instantly dissolved, and she curled up on the sofa, her hands instinctively moving to the gland at the nape of her neck, trying to soothe the turmoil raging within her.
As her fingers made contact, she couldn’t help but let out an unbearable moan: “Mmm…”
Ming Yu steadied her breathing before tremblingly rising to her feet, her hands shaking as she reached for the suppressants.
After injecting three consecutive doses of suppressants, the restlessness within her gradually subsided. Yet, due to the excessive dosage, she shuddered uncontrollably, as if enduring the torment of alternating ice and fire, uncertain when she might completely break down.
Just a little more, just a little and she would have been unable to resist throwing herself at that inferior Alpha, humbly begging for her comfort. The thought of how disgraced she had become because of this person intensified the murderous intent in her eyes.
She despised the feeling of losing control. If she truly couldn’t restrain herself, the only option would be, to cripple Song Qingpei.
