The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 23.1
Having come to understand her own feelings, Ming Yu was filled with complex emotions.
She was both terrified of her feelings for Song Qingpei and acutely aware that the other woman had likely long been disappointed in her.
When she returned home that evening, she tried to use the opportunity of spending time with Song Song to bridge the distance between herself and Song Qingpei. However, Song Qingpei remained unmoved by her hints, as if completely oblivious to her intentions.
Ming Yu couldn’t tell whether she was genuinely unaware or simply pretending, but she couldn’t bring herself to openly confess her feelings.
This unfamiliar emotion kept her awake for two consecutive nights.
Early the next morning,
Ming Yu woke up early, deliberately changing into a light-colored dress and applying light makeup in an attempt to appear more approachable and easygoing.
When she went downstairs, Song Qingpei was already seated at the dining table, having breakfast with Song Song.
As soon as Song Song spotted Ming Yu, she cheerfully called out, “Mommy, good morning!”
Ming Yu smiled, walked over to Song Song, and gently patted her head. “Good morning, Song Song.”
Her gaze involuntarily drifted toward Song Qingpei, only to find that the other woman merely glanced at her briefly before continuing to eat, as if she hardly mattered at all.
A wave of disappointment washed over Ming Yu, but she still sat down beside Song Song and asked softly, “Song Song, are you nervous about going to school today?”
Song Song shook her head, grinning. “Not nervous! Mommy said she’d go with me, so I’m not scared.”
Ming Yu took a deep breath, trying to maintain a calm appearance, and looked at Song Qingpei. “Then, shall we take Song Song together?”
She had already mentioned it yesterday, so Song Qingpei wasn’t particularly surprised and simply nodded.
“Mm, hurry up and eat. Don’t be late on the first day.”
Ming Yu wanted to say more but found herself unable to come up with any topic that could bring them closer. Frustrated, she lowered her head and ate in silence.
After breakfast, Song Qingpei stood up and picked up Song Song’s backpack. “Let’s go. It’s getting late.”
Watching her retreating figure, Ming Yu felt a sense of powerlessness.
The three of them got into the car, with Song Song sitting in the back, excitedly looking around.
Ming Yu took the passenger seat, occasionally stealing glances at Song Qingpei in the back. However, Song Qingpei kept her eyes fixed ahead, only occasionally turning to look at Song Song, never once letting her gaze fall on Ming Yu. This left Ming Yu feeling defeated and helpless.
Just as Ming Yu was brooding, Song Song suddenly turned around and looked at Song Qingpei with clear, bright eyes. “Mommy, did you know? I’m performing in a show at school today!”
Song Qingpei played along, asking, “Wow, what kind of performance?”
“My friends and I are going to dance!” Song Song exclaimed excitedly, her face full of anticipation.
“Song Song, you’re amazing! Mommy will cheer for you from the audience, okay?”
“Okay! I’ll do my best!”
Seeing Song Qingpei smile, Ming Yu tried to join the conversation, but Song Qingpei turned to look out the window, as if the warmth she had shown was nothing more than a fleeting moment. Ming Yu couldn’t help but feel disheartened and didn’t find another opportunity to speak with Song Qingpei for the rest of the ride.
When they finally arrived at the school, Song Song happily ran toward the campus.
The fluttering colored flags at the school gate, the excited children, and the cheerful laughter of parents painted a warm and lively scene.
“I’ll go keep an eye on Song Song.”
Song Qingpei said one sentence before turning to chase after Song Song in the crowd.
The campus in the early morning was tranquil and serene, with a gentle breeze rustling the leaves.
Ming Yu and Song Qingpei walked together on the road to the school, with Song Song skipping happily ahead, occasionally looking back at them with expectant eyes.
“Mommy, I’m going to do really well today!” Song Song suddenly stopped, turned around, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“Of course, Song Song is the best!” Song Qingpei praised with a smile.
Seeing this, the bitterness in Ming Yu’s heart deepened a little more. Song Qingpei never smiled at her like that.
Pedestrians came and went on the road, and the sunlight bathed them in a golden glow. Yet, Ming Yu’s mood felt particularly heavy and desolate.
She tried hard to find a topic, hoping to break the awkward silence. “I remember you once said that on the day Song Song started school, you wanted to take a family photo at the school gate as a keepsake.”
Song Qingpei frowned slightly, seemingly unwilling to engage with the topic. “Don’t overthink it. That was just a joke.”
A simple sentence, like a cold gust of wind, instantly extinguished Ming Yu’s enthusiasm.
She had no words to respond and could only walk silently behind, stewing in her frustration. She wanted to close the distance between them but found that no matter how hard she tried, Song Qingpei still maintained an appropriately cool distance.
Had she really drawn a clear line in her heart?
At that moment, Song Song ran ahead excitedly, waving her hands. “Mommy, Mama, hurry up!”
Afraid that Song Song might get lost, Song Qingpei quickly chased after her.
Just then, several people holding cameras swiftly approached them. Song Qingpei was busy talking to Song Song with her head lowered and didn’t notice.
Song Song tugged at Song Qingpei’s hand and called out to Ming Yu behind them, “Mommy, hurry up!”
Hearing Song Song’s call, Ming Yu pushed aside the disappointment in her heart and hurried to catch up. The two of them walked on either side of Song Song, holding her small hands as they strolled along the path, a picturesque sight.
Because there were too many parents and children around, noisy and bustling, the people with cameras took numerous photos of the trio without being noticed.
They seemed quite wary of Ming Yu. After taking a few photos, they hurried away without alerting anyone.
Ming Yu, still accompanying Song Song, had no idea they had already become a hot topic online.
【General Ming Yu’s Love Child Exposed!】
This trending topic quickly climbed to the top of the homepage, attracting numerous netizens. The comment section instantly exploded.
Zhan Nansheng sat in her office, fingers lightly tapping on the desk, gleefully watching the trending topic on the screen.
The headline read prominently: “General Ming Yu and Mysterious Alpha Seen Dropping Off Child Together, Suspected Partner Exposed!”
The accompanying photo showed Ming Yu walking side by side with a tall female Alpha, holding a little girl’s hand between them. Though the photo was somewhat blurry, their faces were still recognizable.
Zhan Nansheng flipped through the information, a hint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.
She had long suspected something about Ming Yu’s private life and had sent people to investigate. She never expected that during the two years Ming Yu went missing, she had ended up on a trash planet, living with a low-grade Alpha, Song Qingpei for two years, and even gave birth to a child.
“Hah, Ming Yu, so you’ve come to this day.” Zhan Nansheng sneered coldly, a plan already forming in her mind.
She decided to personally seek out Song Qingpei, leveraging her own status and Ming Yu’s past to completely shatter Ming Yu’s reputation. Let’s see how she can maintain her position as principal after this.
Not long after, Ming Yu also saw the trending topic.
Inside the car, Song Qingpei noticed her expression suddenly change and couldn’t help but glance over curiously.
Upon seeing the content, she panicked, knowing that once the media amplified this situation, her relationship with Ming Yu would be thrust into the spotlight again. Ming Yu would likely blame her, and their recently improved relationship would probably face new troubles.
She attempted to explain, “I’m sorry, I didn’t expect that on the first day sending Song Song to school, someone would take photos.”
“It’s not your fault. I’ll handle it.”
Ming Yu cut her off and immediately made a call. “Lieutenant Lin, investigate the source of this trending topic immediately. I want all the information.”
Seeing Ming Yu’s furrowed brow, Song Qingpei’s worry remained. She was about to speak when suddenly, Ming Yu’s communicator rang. She glanced down, the screen displayed the word “Grandmother.”
Her heart sank abruptly. Her fingers paused for a moment before she answered the call.
“Ming Yu, what exactly is going on?” Her grandmother’s voice was cold and authoritative, carrying an undeniable pressure through the communicator. “Do you know how chaotic things are outside right now? The news about you losing your memory, ending up on a garbage planet, and having a child with a low-class Alpha has spread across the entire galaxy! Do you realize how much this will affect you?”
Ming Yu tightened her grip on the communicator, her voice slightly hoarse. “Grandmother, I will handle this.”
Ignoring her assurance completely, her grandmother’s tone grew even harsher. “Ming Yu, come to Lakeheart Manor to see me immediately.”
With that, the call ended abruptly, plunging the car into dead silence.
Amid the stillness, Song Qingpei’s emotions were heavy and complex.
She turned and saw the almost resolute expression on Ming Yu’s face, feeling a wave of unease. A faint premonition stirred within her this turmoil would have an irreversible impact on their recently stabilized relationship.
“Ming Yu, I think…” Song Qingpei searched for the right words. “Maybe we should address this issue head-on. After all, we’re no longer involved. We shouldn’t let misunderstandings arise because of this.”
Hearing her say “no longer involved,” Ming Yu’s brow furrowed deeply, and she immediately rejected the suggestion.
“I told you, this is not your concern. I will handle it.” Ming Yu then instructed the driver, “Take her home first. I’ll go to Grandmother’s place afterward.”
Song Qingpei’s heart sank. After a moment of hesitation, she took a deep breath and turned to look out the window. The cityscape rushed by, as if mocking her helplessness.
“I… I can go to the company myself. You go ahead with your matters.”
Ultimately, at Song Qingpei’s insistence, Ming Yu had no choice but to nod in agreement. “Alright, be careful on your way.”
As Song Qingpei got out of the car, she glanced back and saw Ming Yu still sitting inside, her gaze firm yet tinged with a trace of helplessness and concern. Silently, Song Qingpei prayed that this storm would not drag them into a deeper whirlpool.
Meanwhile, a tumult of complex emotions surged within Ming Yu as she directed the driver to head to Lakeheart Manor.
Her grandmother had clearly been waiting impatiently to see her.
Lakeside Manor was the family’s ancestral home, its exterior ancient and elegant, with lush pines and cypresses filling the courtyard, surrounded by a winding artificial lake like a tranquil paradise.
Yet today, this place felt like an invisible weight pressing down on Ming Yu.
As she stepped into the residence, her grandmother was already waiting in the hall, her expression stern.
Ming Yu had barely crossed the threshold when her grandmother, abandoning her usual composure, confronted her directly. “You’ve finally arrived, Ming Yu! What is the meaning of this situation?”
“Don’t worry, I will handle this matter properly,” Ming Yu reassured her once more.
“Handle it? How do you plan to handle it?” her grandmother’s tone grew sharper. “You are currently a candidate for the position of dean at Lanxing Advanced Military Academy. If the scandal of being marked by an inferior Alpha gets out, your future will be ruined! Do you have any idea how many people are eyeing your position? Do you know that Zhan Nansheng is already stirring trouble behind the scenes, waiting to see you humiliated?”
Ming Yu fell silent for a moment before replying quietly, “I know, Grandmother. But this isn’t a scandal. Song Song is my daughter, and Song Qingpei is not some inferior Alpha. She—”
“Enough!” her grandmother cut her off sharply. “Ming Yu, has that woman bewitched you? She’s nothing but an inferior Alpha from a garbage planet, clinging to you through the child just to chase power and status! And now you’re willing to throw away your future for her?”
“Grandmother!” Ming Yu’s voice rose slightly, carrying a hint of suppressed anger and frustration. “Song Qingpei is not that kind of person! She has never coveted power or status. She even, she doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore.”
“Then you should send her away all the more!”
