- Chapter 1 - The General Comes Knocking
On the assembly line for mecha arms, several engineers were operating the machinery in an orderly fashion.
Song Qingpei set down the assembled mecha component in her hand and overheard two mecha engineers chatting animatedly nearby.
“Did you hear? The space pirates in the N8 route have been wiped out.”
“Really? Then our N69 Star, as a supply station along the route, is bound to prosper.”
Their topic immediately piqued the interest of others nearby, who eagerly joined in: “I heard that to eliminate the space pirates this time, General Ming Yu personally disguised herself as a beautiful passing merchant to lure out the lustful pirate leader, capturing them all in one fell swoop.”
“General Ming Yu truly lives up to her title as the Rose of the Star Alliance. I’m so curious about what she really looks like.”
“Indeed! What kind of Alpha with such potent pheromones could mark an exceptional Omega like General Ming Yu?”
Hearing the topic shift to marking Omegas, Song Qingpei, an Alpha herself, lost interest. Unlike other Alphas with their vigorous pheromones, she had been labeled as an inferior Alpha during testing her pheromones too bland, hardly capable of stirring any passion.
Except for…
A slender, graceful figure flashed through her mind. During their intimate moments, her pheromones had surged with unprecedented vitality, only to fall dormant again as if lifeless once they parted.
Two years had passed, yet thinking of that person still felt like a dream.
Back then, she was still wandering on a garbage planet and had accidentally saved an Omega in the throes of a heat cycle. The beauty had been passionate and proactive, her every glance and gesture exuding allure. They had shared a night of spring romance.
Afterward, when the beauty awoke, she had no recollection of the past. Song Qingpei had no choice but to take care of her. Over time, affection grew between them, and she unexpectedly gained a beautiful wife and a lovely daughter.
For Song Qingpei, who had been an orphan drifting through the stars since childhood, she finally had a family. Those days were the happiest of her life. She poured her heart and soul into caring for her wife and daughter, longing only for a warm and simple life together.
But then, her wife suddenly regained her memory. Her gaze turned as cold as frost on a snowy mountain, and from her once seductive red lips came hurtful words, one after another:
“Song Qingpei, you are not worthy of marking me, nor are you fit to have me bear your daughter. Let’s pretend this never happened. She will leave you a substantial sum of money. Take your daughter and leave. Do not cling to me, or don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
The thought of the family she had longed for shattering so abruptly, and being separated from her babbling toddler, felt like a knife twisting in Song Qingpei’s heart. No her wife could reject her, but she couldn’t bear to be parted from her daughter.
Gritting her teeth, she decided to act as if her wife had died and fled with their daughter.
Two years had passed in the blink of an eye. She wondered Song Qingpei shook her head. Enough if the other person didn’t want her, what was the point of her foolishly dwelling on it?
Snapping back to reality, Song Qingpei lifted her head and took a deep breath, just as the team leader burst in, beaming with joy: “Great news, everyone! With the N8 shipping route now open, we’ve landed a major mecha order. The boss is thrilled, so we’re knocking off early today to go out and celebrate!”
Cheers erupted instantly: “Yes!!!”
“Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
The group strode out of the factory building, followed by excited colleagues and a surprised Song Qingpei.
“Great, I don’t have to take time off after all.”
Song Qingpei breathed a sigh of relief. She had worked hard to secure this job and was afraid that taking too much leave would get her fired. Yet, she couldn’t skip picking up her daughter, who was let out early from school every week. This timing was perfect.
After everyone had left, she approached her supervisor to explain that she couldn’t attend the team dinner due to personal matters. The supervisor, being understanding, readily agreed.
Song Qingpei left the mecha assembly workshop, changed out of her work uniform in the break room, and put on a black trench coat. She added a hat, sunglasses, and a face mask, concealing most of her facial features, before heading out of the mecha base.
Arriving at the parking area, she unlocked her car using facial recognition, activated the autonomous driving mode, and set off for her daughter’s kindergarten.
Today was her daughter Song Song’s birthday. The little one had been eagerly hoping her mother would be the first to pick her up. Feeling guilty for not spending enough time with her daughter, Song Qingpei did her best to fulfill this small wish.
Parking outside the kindergarten, Song Qingpei retrieved a gift from the passenger seat and stepped out of the car. She stood by the exit, ensuring her daughter would see her first thing.
Soon, the little girl’s figure came into view, and she came running out joyfully.
The child was exceptionally pretty, with delicate features and fair, tender skin, looking utterly adorable.
“Mommy!”
She called out sweetly, throwing herself into Song Qingpei’s arms. “You really came first today! Mommy, you’re amazing!”
“Mm, were you a good girl today?” Song Qingpei gently patted her daughter’s head.
The little girl nodded vigorously. “Song Song was very well-behaved today.”
“Song Song, look what Mommy bought you for your birthday.” Song Qingpei took her daughter’s hand and handed her the gift.
Song Song’s eyes lit up, and she eagerly opened the box.
“Wow!” she exclaimed in awe. “Mommy, it’s so beautiful!”
She held the box up high, revealing a brand-new mecha model inside. It had a unique design and a dazzling appearance, clearly custom-made with great care.
“Does Song Song like it?” Song Qingpei asked with a smile.
Song Song nodded emphatically and hugged her tightly. “Song Song loves it so much! Thank you, Mommy!”
“I’m glad you like it,” Song Qingpei said softly. “Come on, let’s go have some fun, and we’ll buy a birthday cake too, okay?”
Song Song cheered excitedly. “Yes! Thank you, Mommy!”
As they reached the car, just as Song Qingpei was about to lift her daughter inside, she suddenly felt a chilling sensation, as if someone was watching her.
Song Qingpei turned around warily.
She saw four or five unfamiliar men stepping out of a black armored vehicle. They were burly, with dark skin and gloomy, fierce expressions they didn’t look like decent people.
Accustomed to keeping a low profile, Song Qingpei quickly grew alert and hurried away with her daughter.
Night fell.
The bustling streets were aglow with shimmering lights.
Across the city, luxurious buildings rose from the ground, a testament to its prosperity.
After dinner, Song Qingpei strolled along the street with her daughter. The little girl chattered excitedly, recounting all the fun things that had happened at kindergarten that day.
A slight smile touched Song Qingpei’s lips as she watched her daughter’s lively demeanor, her own mood lifting.
“Mommy, look! That lady is so pretty!”
Suddenly, Song Song tugged on Song Qingpei’s sleeve, pointing upward at the projection of a tall building ahead and exclaiming loudly.
Song Qingpei lifted her gaze and saw a brilliantly lit giant screen floating in the air.
It was currently broadcasting footage of the Alliance’s Seventh Fleet besieging interstellar pirates. A black warship was being destroyed, its scattered sparks illuminating the screen and forming dazzling, colorful patterns.
This warship was none other than the pirates’ most prized technological vessel, the “Flying Dragon,” equipped with hypersonic missiles, radar detection systems, and reconnaissance satellites.
The grand visuals were accompanied by the commentator’s impassioned voice:
“Facing such ruthless interstellar pirates, the Seventh Fleet, led by General Ming Yu, fought valiantly. The pirates were left defenseless and fled in panic.”
“It is reported that during the pirates’ final retreat, General Ming Yu led the fleet in pursuit of their last starship, annihilating them in one decisive strike.”
“The reopening of the N8 interstellar route after twenty-six years of closure is indebted to General Ming Yu’s heroic efforts.”
“So, amazing!”
The little girl’s face was full of admiration.
Song Qingpei smiled and was about to speak when the screen flickered. The battle footage abruptly stopped, slowly revealing the delicate face of a woman.
Dressed in a gilded general’s uniform, she was radiant like a painting, yet her eyes were as cold as crystalline snow on a high mountain. Behind her, her illustrious military achievements formed a stark contrast to her stunning beauty.
Song Qingpei stared dumbfounded at the woman on the screen, her mind reeling.
It was actually her!
Her identity was actually the general of the Seventh Fleet!
How was this possible?
Song Qingpei felt her heart racing wildly. The amnesiac woman she had saved, the one who had given birth to their daughter, was such an important figure.
She had known the woman was of noble status, why else would she have become so cold and disdainful after regaining her memory? but she never imagined Ming Yu’s identity would be so exceptional, making her feel utterly inadequate.
Thinking about how she had been hiding all these years, afraid that Ming Yu would find her and take their daughter away, it seemed now.
Song Qingpei couldn’t help but feel a surge of fear. It seemed they couldn’t stay here any longer; it was better to leave with their daughter as soon as possible.
She pondered this silently.
“Mom! Mom, what’s wrong?”
Song Song gently pushed her arm, her little mouth pouting in confusion.
Song Qingpei was dazed for a long moment before she managed to collect herself. With a heart full of complex emotions, she hugged her daughter tightly.
“It’s nothing, Song Song. Let’s go home.”
Along the way, Song Qingpei tried her best to gently prepare her daughter, hoping to help her accept the idea of leaving their familiar life behind.
“Mom, why do we have to leave?”
She tilted her little head, her delicate face filled with confusion.
Song Qingpei was momentarily at a loss for words. She could only stroke her daughter’s soft hair, patiently comforting her and hoping she would understand her mother’s difficult position.
Seeing her mother’s troubled expression, Song Song obediently agreed, leaning sweetly against her mother’s shoulder.
When they arrived home, Song Qingpei carried her daughter out of the car and entered the elevator, already planning to pack their things and leave immediately she couldn’t let that woman find her.
“Ding!”
The elevator doors slid open slowly, revealing several tall figures in black standing guard at the entrance, their sharp eyes scanning everything around them.
Song Qingpei’s heart jolted violently.
Holding her daughter, she subtly shifted to the side and pressed the close button, preparing to leave.
“Stop!”
A commanding voice rang out, halting the closing elevator doors.
Song Qingpei paused, took a deep breath, and forced herself to remain calm.
“Who are you? I don’t know you! Please step aside!”
The lead figure in black stepped forward, his tone respectful yet unyielding. “Miss Song, please come with us.”
Song Qingpei shielded Song Song behind her, eyeing them warily. “You must have mistaken me for someone else. I don’t know you.”
“Apologies, Miss Song. We are acting under orders. Please cooperate,” the man in black insisted firmly.
What to do? What to do?
Song Qingpei’s mind raced as she desperately searched for a way out.
But against such overwhelming force, she had no means of resistance. She was half-forced out of the elevator and, in despair, carried her daughter toward her own apartment door.
Outside, several bodyguards stood waiting. As soon as they saw Song Qingpei, they stepped forward to open the door for her.
Her heart sank. Clutching her daughter tightly, she remained on high alert.
The lead figure in black took a step forward. “Miss Song, after you.”
With no other choice, she steeled herself and followed them inside.
The room was unlit, but she could vaguely make out a tall, slender figure standing by the living room window, gazing down at the scene outside. The deep night shadows completely enveloped her profile, leaving only a pair of long, slender legs and straight boots visible.
“Mommy, why are the lights off?”
Little Song Song blinked her big, round eyes in confusion, calling out uneasily.
Song Qingpei quickly soothed her. “Be good, Song Song. The lights will be on soon.”
With a soft click, the motion-activated lights flickered on.
The woman slowly turned around, revealing exquisite features, though an air of cool detachment clung to her.
“Song Qingpei, it’s been a long time.”
