Cheng An is the most ordinary Beta you could find. A corporate slave grinding away at a company where his daily routine consists of being a beast of burden, then being a beast of burden again.

At work, he faces the routine inspections of his cold-faced Alpha boss.

His boss constantly summons him to the office alone. In reality, Cheng An is diligent, hardworking, and never misses a day; he completes every project flawlessly. He is the kind of tireless worker that would make any capitalist weep with joy. Yet, for some reason, his boss always seems dissatisfied, constantly calling him in for “private meetings.”

After work, he faces the enthusiastic hospitality of a handsome Alpha part-timer.

As a corporate drone, caffeine is his lifeline. Every day, Cheng An stops by a coffee shop where the clerk, a bright, handsome college student who greets him with a beaming smile, having already memorized his order.

“No sugar, no milk. It’s already waiting for you.”

At night, he faces the lingering shadow of a “damp and dark” Alpha intern.

A new intern joined the Art Department next door. This should have nothing to do with Cheng An in Tech, but after the Art Department’s computers crashed one day, Cheng An went over to fix them. There, on the intern’s screen, he discovered a hoard of suggestive “fan art” starring himself. It was then that Cheng An realized the intern’s true intentions, and finally understood why he’d felt like he was being watched lately.

On weekends, he faces the gentle concern and “affection” of an Alpha doctor.

Due to an overwhelming workload, Cheng An, now a Tech Lead, began suffering from severe insomnia. He sought medical help, finding relief in the way the doctor massaged his neck. Although the back of the neck is a private area for most, Cheng An figured he was just a Beta, what was there to worry about? He just wanted a good night’s sleep.

Then, he heard the doctor whisper softly, “This is happening because you’re too tense. Perhaps starting a relationship would help you relax.”
