The Cool CEO’s Ultra-Sweet Boyfriend - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Looking for Our Mr. Ji?
After hanging up the phone, instead of feeling relieved, Xu Nanxin felt his mood turn even more complicated.
And it was all his own big mouth’s fault. Why did he have to bring that up over the phone? Now, he was receiving at least one call from Mr. Z every single day.
When the other party said he would take the initiative, he actually meant it literally by putting it into action. He was seriously crying tears of mixed emotions!
Sometimes when his colleagues invited him out for dinner in the evening, he didn’t even dare to agree. He was terrified that he might suddenly get a call from Ji Li and inadvertently let his colleagues find out about something mind-blowing.
This was probably how a guilty person felt—guilty about everything they did!
However, this time, because the planning department had successfully completed their previous project and secured another major one, the company was hosting a team-building dinner. Xu Nanxin couldn’t dodge it, so he could only pin his hopes on the fact that Ji Li was also attending tonight; surely Ji Li wouldn’t have the time to call him in the evening.
He had a long face, and only Yang Xuan in the office teased him with a knowing expression: “What’s wrong? Are you so busy going on dates with your partner every single night that you barely have time for a company dinner now?”
Xu Nanxin let out a bitter smile. In a sense, she wasn’t wrong at all. Wasn’t he exactly staying at home every single night to keep his “partner” company?
And this partner happened to have a pretty formidable background!
“Sister Xuan, stop making fun of me.” After saying that, Xu Nanxin shifted the topic: “I’m heading to the pantry to brew some coffee. Do you want me to make a cup for you too?”
The weather had turned cold lately, and having a cup of hot coffee always felt exceptionally cozy.
“Sure, thank you then. Our Nanxin is just so thoughtful; your girlfriend must be very happy.” Yang Xuan simply assumed Xu Nanxin was shy, so she nodded with a smile.
Holding his mug, Xu Nanxin stood up and walked to the pantry.
There was barely anyone in the pantry right now. He leisurely brewed the coffee while looking out the window. It seemed quite windy outside. The temperature in Jiangning City had dropped drastically over the past two days; it felt like real winter was finally arriving.
Then again, it was already mid-November. Back in his hometown, it had already been freezing for over half a month.
As he was thinking, he suddenly heard some commotion outside. The office area, which had been very quiet just moments ago, was now noisy enough to be heard even from the pantry, though he couldn’t quite make out what everyone was saying.
Xu Nanxin carried the brewed coffee out, curious about what was happening. He glanced around and ended up spotting a completely unfamiliar face.
The man had swaggered in from the outside, wearing a black trench coat and a pair of black leather gloves. He was undeniably good-looking with sharp, defined features and striking, intense eyes, yet he carried an incredibly sharp aura that made him look like someone you shouldn’t mess with.
Xu Nanxin didn’t know how the guy got in and wondered if the company was getting a newcomer.
But in all fairness, he was genuinely handsome. No wonder he had caused such a stir!
Adopting a mindset that it was none of his business, Xu Nanxin kept walking, intending to bring the coffee back to his desk. After all, a long time ago, his heart had already defaulted to Mr. Z being the most handsome person, making him essentially immune to other men.
Even though he no longer dared to have wild delusions after finding out that Mr. Z was Ji Li, it was undeniable that Ji Li’s physical appearance was indeed top-tier.
“Wait a moment.”
The man called out to him.
Xu Nanxin paused in his tracks. He looked around; indeed, he was the only one not at his workstation and closest to the man. Although many of his other colleagues were stealing glances, they were just sitting at their desks checking out the handsome guy.
“Are you calling me? Is there something I can help you with?” Xu Nanxin asked politely and amiably as their eyes met.
“Yeah. Where is Ji Li’s office?” the man asked directly.
Xu Nanxin blanked for a second. “You’re looking for our Mr. Ji?”
Moreover, he had addressed Ji Li directly by his full name, making them seem quite familiar. He wondered what their relationship was. Then again, the people Ji Li knew certainly looked like they belonged to a completely different social circle from theirs.
Thinking about it this way, a reality check hit him—he and Ji Li were indeed from two different worlds.
“Yeah,” the man nodded.
Holding his coffee, Xu Nanxin couldn’t help but steal another couple of glances at him before pointing toward the hallway. “Go down that way, turn left, and it’s the very first room.”
“Thanks,” the man said casually. He swept a glance over Xu Nanxin, a trace of a half-smile surfacing in his incredibly sharp eyes.
Xu Nanxin felt a bit uncomfortable. After answering, he turned around and went back to his workstation, handing the brewed coffee to Yang Xuan while his gaze involuntarily drifted toward the direction of Ji Li’s office.
Inside Ji Li’s office.
The man pushed the door straight open. Ji Li looked up, and upon seeing him, temporarily set down the documents in his hand. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, seeing that you’ve been staying in City B for several months now, I flew over specifically to check on you. So, how is it? Where’s that little lover of yours?” He Feng sat down casually on the sofa, crossing his legs.
Instead of answering He Feng, Ji Li just dialed the internal line and instructed his secretary to bring in two cups of coffee.
Seeing that Ji Li ignored him, He Feng understood. He let out a chuckle and said, “I told you a long time ago that online dating is unreliable. If you ask me, stop looking far and wide. I just took a look outside, isn’t there a perfect ready-made option right in your company? He’s quite good-looking and looks pretty innocent. Isn’t your online dating partner exactly this type?”
“He Feng.” Ji Li sounded somewhat displeased. Although he didn’t know who He Feng was talking about, those words felt like an insult to his feelings for Little Rabbit.
“What? I’m not wrong. I asked him for directions just now, and looking at the expression on his face, he definitely has a thing for you. If you go talk to him, he’ll definitely agree. Compared to an online dating partner you’ve never even laid eyes on, someone tangible is always more reliable.” He Feng shrugged his shoulders.
Has a thing for him. The moment He Feng said that, Ji Li knew exactly who he was talking about. His frown deepened. “I don’t like making these kinds of jokes. It’s insulting to myself, and it’s insulting to others.”
Just because Xu Nanxin shared some similarities with Little Rabbit, treating someone as a substitute was low, and he couldn’t believe He Feng actually suggested it.
“Fine, you’re high and mighty. Such a pity, though; that boy is genuinely good-looking. What if your online dating partner turns out to be a total eyesore?” He Feng was as sharp-tongued and asking for a beating as always, wearing a mischievous grin that suggested he was up to no good.
Ji Li looked up, his gaze turning a fraction colder—a clear warning sign that he was about to lose his temper. “Say one more word and get the hell out.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. I clearly care about you, yet I never get a nice look in return.” He Feng leaned back against the sofa, dropping the teasing.
The secretary came in to deliver the coffee, opening the office door. Directly across from the door, Xu Nanxin happened to be looking over. The moment his eyes collided with Ji Li’s, he immediately averted his gaze.
Xu Nanxin didn’t even know what he was thinking anymore.
Ji Li, on the other hand, coldly and indifferently withdrew his gaze. No matter how good-looking Xu Nanxin was, he had no interest. Even if Little Rabbit really didn’t look great, he would love him just the same.
