- Chapter 38 - Pampered into a Little Lazybones by Sister
A night of sweet dreams. Although Yan Qing’s cultivation physique differed from ordinary people and didn’t require much sleep, the thought of Xi Zhaowan staying at the Yan residence, just a few steps away in the adjacent room on the second floor, filled her with a sense of cozy accessibility.
After a period of sorrow followed by sudden joy, Yan Qing chose to enter sleep at the same time as Xi Zhaowan, even if they weren’t in the same room.
The next morning, Yan Qing lay on her vast, empty white bed, her heart brimming with fulfillment. She rose with a smile and headed to the vanity. There, on the constant temperature mouthwash cup, sat her toothbrush with toothpaste already neatly squeezed onto it.
Sister Wan woke up so early and thoughtfully prepared everything. Yan Qing hummed a little tune, brushing her teeth while watching her own curving eyes in the mirror.
Does Sister Wan think I’m a little baby? she chuckled to herself.
As she smiled, a faint bitterness rose in her heart. It seemed Yan Qinghe had been cared for by Sister Wan like this since childhood, even though she couldn’t find such specific scenes in the original body’s memories. Perhaps the original owner had simply forgotten after all, Qinghe couldn’t have personally witnessed Xi Zhaowan squeezing the toothpaste every morning.
The thought of Xi Zhaowan caring for Qinghe the same way she did this morning made Yan Qing feel a surge of unease. She couldn’t help but feel a flicker of jealousy toward Qinghe’s life. She took a serious look around Qinghe’s room again, scanning the bookshelf. Pushing a hidden compartment, it slid open to reveal books wrapped in covers that caught her eye.
Yan Qing opened the most prominent one on the outside, ignoring the others, and closed the compartment. After glancing at the title page, she raised an eyebrow in amusement. She flipped through it with feigned casualness, finishing the book in five minutes.
Ten minutes later, she walked out of the room. As expected, Xi Zhaowan was already up, busy in the private kitchenette on the second floor.
With no servants from the first floor to disturb them, Yan Qing tiptoed closer. The morning light cast a graceful, ethereal glow around the woman’s slender silhouette. Yan Qing resisted the urge to wrap her arms around her, even though it felt like capturing the very light that warmed her heart.
“Good morning, Sister Wan.”
“You’re up? You little lazybones.” Xi Zhaowan sensed her approach before she even arrived. Without stopping her hands, she spread red vinegar jam over the freshly made pastries. “Go to the dining table. It’ll be ready in five minutes.”
“Did Aunt Wan always raise Qinghe like this?” Yan Qing changed the form of address, knowing her own hidden meaning. “Making breakfast every day, even setting out the toiletries.”
She’s even more attentive than my own mother.
Xi Zhaowan didn’t mind the change in address, glancing at her with a charming smile. “Does Qing’er not like being taken care of?”
“I like it. But it must be exhausting. I don’t want you to be like this,” Yan Qing explained lamely.
“When you were little, there were nannies to serve you; it wasn’t me. Is Qing’er regretful that I didn’t take care of you like this back then?”
So, the details of Yan Qinghe’s life were handled by nannies. That makes sense, Yan Qing thought, feeling a wave of relief. Xi Zhaowan was a busy woman, after all.
“However, when you were small, I did occasionally make breakfast for you. Has Qing’er grown up only to forget?”
“I haven’t forgotten.” Yan Qing turned her head away uncomfortably. “I know you’re busy. Next time, let me make breakfast. I’ve inherited quite a bit of your skill now.”
Hearing the girl’s self-praise, Xi Zhaowan laughed and patted the hand that was trying to snatch a pastry. “Be good, go wait at the table. It’s almost done.”
After finishing their meal, seeing that it was still early for school, Xi Zhaowan began to clear the dishes. Although they had a dishwasher, being with Yan Qing brought back a sense of “home” that she, having grown up in an orphanage, deeply cherished.
This time, however, the girl was relentless. “Sister Wan won’t let me cook, and now you won’t even let me wash the dishes.”
“Are you trying to raise me to be someone who can’t lift a finger or tell grains apart?”
“Yes,” Xi Zhaowan teased. “I’ll turn you from a little lazybones into a big, chubby lazy pig.”
“Then you’ll ruin me. What if I become so useless I can never leave you?” Yan Qing feigned distress while hugging Xi Zhaowan from behind, her hands moving in circles over Xi Zhaowan’s as she cleaned the dishes.
The scene ended with Xi Zhaowan washing the dishes while Yan Qing “washed” Xi Zhaowan’s hands. Glued together, they managed to turn a few plates into a mountain of soap suds.
“There’s still an hour left. Shall you go to school yourself, or shall I not see you off?”
Xi Zhaowan threw out her “trump card,” and Yan Qing finally let go obediently. The woman sighed with a smile. Are eighteen-year-old girls always this clingy?
She had no way of knowing that one day she would discover Yan Qing wasn’t eighteen, but a hundred-year-old who had never been in love and that she, coincidentally, was the first object of this “elder’s” affection.
Driven to Hangyu High School by Xi Zhaowan again, the mood was completely different. The first time, Xi Zhaowan was like a “guardian.” This time, she was her…
Xi Zhaowan drove with focused eyes. Her skin was like fallen snow, her hair elegantly pinned, and the white jade earrings on her lobes swayed in harmony with her graceful neck. Yan Qing stared at the red mole on her earlobe, her mind wandering between dreams and reality.
Noticing the stare, Xi Zhaowan felt a bit shy. “Hmm? Qing’er, have you seen enough?”
Ah, I’ve been caught.
“I can’t get enough. You are very beautiful,” Yan Qing praised sincerely.
Xi Zhaowan was usually indifferent to compliments about her appearance, but a compliment from her beloved was quite effective. Just as she was about to return the sentiment, she was cut off by the girl’s next words.
“But, Sister Wan, I wasn’t just looking at you. I was mostly observing how you drive.” Yan Qing snapped out of her daze, speaking with a straight face.
She then watched Xi Zhaowan’s movements, retrieving stored memories of driving from her sea of consciousness. It doesn’t seem hard. I’ll get a license next time and drive for Sister Wan. I want to share her burdens and show her I’m a mature adult worth relying on.
To that end, Yan Qing began to explore the skills of this world with newfound enthusiasm. Xi Zhaowan had no idea that in just a few minutes, the genius girl had mastered most driving techniques.
“Is there anything worth watching about driving?” Xi Zhaowan asked, keeping the steering wheel steady.
“Yes. Once I learn, I can drive for you next time.”
Xi Zhaowan’s heart warmed, and they spent the rest of the drive discussing road safety. Upon arrival at the school gate, they happened to encounter Yan Qing’s homeroom teacher.
Teacher Huang, a middle-aged Beta male, was surprised to see Xi Zhaowan personally dropping off her student. He pushed up his glasses and praised their “home tutoring” results.
“Miss Xi, you truly are an outstanding representative of our Hangyu alumni. Since you’ve been tutoring Yan Qinghe, her grades have improved significantly.”
“Yes, I was quite surprised by her last results,” Xi Zhaowan recalled the exam papers where Yan Qing had secured the “crown” of being last in the school.
“You’re not the only one,” Teacher Huang chimed in. Mentioning grades opened the floodgates. Yan Qinghe used to be at the bottom of the class, but never the bottom of the entire grade. “Actually, her first exam this semester was…” actually quite good.
“Still needs improvement!” Seeing that Teacher Huang was about to expose her, Yan Qing interrupted immediately. “Don’t worry, Teacher, I will keep working hard!”
Teacher Huang rubbed his nose. Fine, I won’t say more. As long as Yan Qing had the right attitude.
“Sister Wan, since the teacher said so, you have to keep tutoring me.”
“It wouldn’t be good to regress again.”
Grades were secondary; Yan Qing wasn’t going to miss any chance to solidify her relationship with Xi Zhaowan.
“Alright. But sometimes I’m at the company and come back late. I’m afraid it will affect your rest,” Xi Zhaowan said, not wanting Yan Qing to stay up too late for her.
“Then I’ll go to the company to find you.” For some reason, Yan Qing’s voice took on a teasing tone. “Or does someone prefer Wei Weizhi to come looking for her?”
“After all, even during a meeting, if she comes, you’d go downstairs immediately.”
Teased by the girl’s jealousy, Xi Zhaowan reached out to smooth her hair. “You can come to the company anytime. I’ll tell my assistant.”
“If I’m not busy, I’ll tutor you in my office personally. How’s that?”
Xi Zhaowan hadn’t expected her strict boundary between public and private life to crumble so easily under a few teasing words. Perhaps the sun was just particularly bright today, much like Qing’er’s face. She was secretly delighted by the way Yan Qing cared for her now that they had shared their feelings.
As class was about to start, Xi Zhaowan remembered the thermos of soup she’d brought for Yan Qing’s lunch. She stepped back into the car to get it.
Seeing another of Xi Zhaowan’s private spaces open to her, Yan Qing was thrilled. But it wasn’t enough. She followed Xi Zhaowan into the car and closed the door.
The woman and the girl who “didn’t know how to drive” were now alone in the car’s interior.
“Teacher Huang said my grades improved. Can Sister Wan give me a reward?”
“Sure. What does Qing’er want?” I’ll buy it for her later.
“This.” Yan Qing tapped her cheek. Seeing no reaction, she noticed the woman just staring back with pure, deer like eyes, waiting for an answer.
Sigh, Aunt Wan is so steady, she isn’t even proactively kissing me.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Yan Qing reached out, pressing against the beauty and leaning over. The woman was pinned against the seat back as Yan Qing pressed her lips firmly against that snow white, jade-like skin.
A solid kiss was planted on the cheek.
“I want this reward.”
“Next time I improve, can I ask for something else?” Yan Qing asked seriously as she returned to her seat, her own face flushed.
Her heart was thumping like thunder. The ‘practical application’ worked well, she thought, licking her lips.
It was worth finding that hidden book in Qinghe’s room: How to Woo Your Goddess I + How to Maintain an Intimate Relationship After Winning Her Heart II (Deluxe Combined Edition).
According to the book. Physical contact is the lubricant of intimacy, the fuel for a relationship’s evolution, and the aphrodisiac that makes a partner inseparable.
Truly, there is a ‘Jade Beauty’ to be found in books, Yan Qing sighed.
Ji Qianqian had seen a familiar car parked by the trees when she arrived at the school gate. That was Aunt Wan’s car.
Is Aunt Wan dropping Qinghe off today? Qinghe was leaning against the car, smiling and talking to Xi Zhaowan. Then, Xi Zhaowan got inside, and instead of entering the school, Qinghe followed her in.
Qinghe’s smile was as bright as the sun, pure and confident. Ji Qianqian had never seen her smile like that at her.
Come to think of it, she hadn’t seen Aunt Wan in a long time. How was the Yan family planning to celebrate Qinghe’s eighteenth birthday?
Thinking this, Ji Qianqian decided to go over and say hello. She walked toward the stationary car window…
