It was only after Chi Li’s death that she realized her world was merely a book. Her entire existence served as a foil to highlight the eventual success of her mediocre Junior Brother. At the time, the Master claimed he took him in out of pity. Chi Li had been dismissive to put it bluntly, any stray dog on the street was pitiable, let alone a mediocre human. She favored her Junior Sister, a talent seen only once in a century.
But later, this talentless Junior Brother seemed to drive their Master and eventually the entire world into a collective madness. Heavenly treasures appeared around him as if they cost nothing, guided by an invisible hand. When Chi Li emerged from years of secluded cultivation, the Junior Brother lacked only one thing to complete his path, a high-quality spiritual root. Specifically, the ones belonging to her and her Junior Sister.
From that moment on, Chi Li felt a pair of prying eyes suspended above her head, watching her every move, waiting to claim her life. Soon, she was framed for conspiring with demons and dragged to the Immortal Execution Platform. Her Master stepped forward, not to defend her, but to claim that wasting her spiritual root would be a pity forcing her to endure the agony of having it stripped from her body alive. The ultimate beneficiary was that “pitiable” Junior Brother.
After stealing her spiritual root, the Junior Brother went to the Junior Sister, who was devastated by Chi Li’s death. He didn’t offer comfort instead, he whispered hollow professions of love. Chi Li watched from the void, disgusted. He was exactly like the villains in those vulgar mortal plays, obsessing over her Junior Sister. It was revolting.
The Rebirth
After being reborn, Chi Li is constantly on guard against the erratic behavior of those influenced by the Junior Brother’s “protagonist aura.” She moves first to secure every opportunity and resource for Mu Zhi. Chi Li is determined to wage war against the Will of Heaven, even if she is destined to die again, she will not let those she loathes gain a single advantage.
She takes her Junior Sister away to travel the world for years, keeping her by her side at all times. However, she eventually notices that the way her Junior Sister looks at her is changing. One night, Mu Zhi climbs into her bed, her beautiful, seductive peach-blossom eyes misty with grievance as she whispers:
“Senior Sister, can you please… stop practicing the Path of Emotionless Cultivation?”
Later, the plot she tried to derail is forcibly pulled back on track by the “System” of the world. Facing the interrogation and judgment of the entire Immortal Alliance, her Junior Sister stands firmly in front of her. With absolute trust and determination, Mu Zhi declares:
“Senior Sister, it is just a book. If I say you are not meant to die, then you shall not die. Since I am the ‘other’ protagonist in the story you told me, then I have the power to destroy the first one.”
