- The Cold, Aloof Senior Sister Deserves To Be Paired With A Peerless Beauty
- Chapter 33 - Don't Want It
Today, she didn’t want anything.
The violent spiritual energy was forcibly suppressed, turning into a gentle breeze that brushed past the person in front of her. Hair fluttered slightly, like brilliant peach blossoms blooming in spring, the sudden breathtaking beauty made it hard to look away.
The person stepped closer, leaning into Chi Li’s face to examine something. After a moment, the smile at the corners of their mouth deepened, carrying a hint of satisfaction.
“Senior Sister isn’t unhappy anymore.”
The faint scent of flowers lingered at the tip of Chi Li’s nose. Faced with this person drawing so near, she merely gave a light chuckle. She didn’t blame Mu Zhi for the lack of formality instead, her eyes hid nothing but indulgence and pampering for the other.
“What did you take?” Chi Li asked.
“I took these.”
At this, Mu Zhi held up the items in her hand before Chi Li like a prized treasure. Her eyes were bright, like a clear lake rippled by the wind, making one move involuntarily.
Chi Li’s gaze fell upon Mu Zhi’s hands, a whip and a silver bell.
The Immortal Burning Whip… and the Heart Bewitching Bell…
Before Chi Li could ask, Mu Zhi excitedly brandished the whip and spoke.
“If anyone dares to bully Senior Sister, I’ll use this whip on them. I’ll whip them so hard even their father and grandfather won’t recognize them.”
Hearing Mu Zhi’s words, a surge of warmth rose in Chi Li’s heart. The smile in her eyes deepened as she nodded and spoke.
“It’s quite good, it leaves no marks.”
The Immortal Burning Whip, every strike left no physical trace on the body. Ordinary people would never find a mark, only by searching the primordial spirit could one find the whip scars. At best, the spirit would be damaged at worst, it was life-threatening.
Though it was a high-grade magical treasure, Chi Li’s gaze eventually shifted to the silver bell. Something crossed her mind, and her expression changed.
Memories flooded back like a tide, coalescing into sharp fragments that sent a piercing pain through her entire body.
Insults and accusations echoed clearly in her ears, as if countless people were surrounding her, causing her unbearable agony.
The current Mu Zhi didn’t know that the silver bell in her hand could bewitch hearts and alter memories.
In her previous life, the reason Chi Li had no way to defend herself was precisely because of it.
Even though Chi Li had struggled to destroy it back then, everyone under Mo Fan’s influence, refused to listen to her explanations.
Seeing Chi Li’s face pale, Mu Zhi’s gaze followed to the exquisitely carved silver bell in her hand. She wanted to throw it away, but her hand instead gripped it tightly, as if she were desperately reluctant to let go, as if she loved it dearly.
But if something made Chi Li look like that, Mu Zhi didn’t like it, no matter how exquisite or beautiful it was.
“Senior Sister…”
Mu Zhi spoke, her voice unintentionally carrying a sob, sounding lost and helpless.
“I don’t want it anymore.”
Hearing this, Chi Li was snapped out of her thoughts, only to be met with Mu Zhi’s distress.
Chi Li reached out and patted Mu Zhi’s head reassuringly. Her next words seemed to come out of nowhere, but the helplessness in her tone made Mu Zhi daze for a moment.
“This is not your fault.”
Back then, the silver bell hadn’t been in Mu Zhi’s hands, and she wasn’t the one who had altered the memories.
The silver bell could not be bound to a master, anyone could manipulate it.
Mu Zhi snapped back to reality. The look she cast at the silver bell was no longer one of joy, but one of complexity.
Seeing Mu Zhi hanging her head, Chi Li felt a pang of heartache. Just as she was about to speak again, Mu Zhi spoke first, her voice muffled as if she were desperately holding something back.
“Am I… going to use it to do something to you?”
Mu Zhi had always firmly believed that Chi Li could calculate future events, which is why she sensed something was wrong the moment Chi Li’s expression shifted.
At Mu Zhi’s words, Chi Li’s movements froze. She looked away, her voice carrying a trace of coldness.
“It wasn’t you.”
“I don’t want it.”
Mu Zhi tried again to throw it away, but her own hand clenched it tight.
Chi Li’s hand covered the other’s trembling back of the hand, trembling from fear and her voice carried a peculiar seriousness.
“Mu Zhi, there are many things we cannot change, but I can only tell you this, you have never harmed me.”
Everyone else saw her as a traitor, they would eventually stand on the opposing side. Only Mu Zhi would always stand by her.
As she finished, an unreadable look flashed through Chi Li’s eyes.
Many things, even if she had been reborn, she could not change, just as she could never expose Mo Fan, just as she couldn’t rescue Huang Jin, and just as she couldn’t force Mu Zhi to give up this silver bell now.
Her cultivation was undoubtedly powerful, but against the Heavenly Dao, she was more powerless than anyone.
She could know everything, yet she could not force events out of their original tracks.
This was the Heavenly Dao, and her actions were in defiance of it.
Mu Zhi could tell that Chi Li’s comfort just now was different from her usual tone, it was more cherished, more earnest. This wasn’t just said to her, but also something Chi Li was saying to herself.
“Then, what does it do?” Mu Zhi asked, her voice still a bit gloomy.
Since it couldn’t be changed, she was determined to understand it clearly.
Chi Li pursed her lips, her voice turning cold and indifferent.
“It bewitches hearts and alters memories.”
Mu Zhi opened her mouth, silently repeating Chi Li’s words. When she reached “alters memories,” her brow furrowed for some reason, as if in extreme distaste.
After a long while, Mu Zhi spoke with conviction.
“No matter what happens in the future, it will never become a weapon in my hands to hurt Senior Sister.”
Word by word, it was a solemn promise.
The corners of Chi Li’s mouth turned up slightly as she spoke warmly.
“Okay.”
“Senior Sister, let’s go back,” Mu Zhi said.
At that moment, Chi Li’s cool hand covered Mu Zhi’s eyes. Her voice seemed to draw closer, making Mu Zhi forget her previous emotions.
“Wait a moment.”
The voice was gentle, falling by her ear, causing the face of the person whose eyes were covered to flush hot.
Chi Li silently chanted an incantation, but then she felt the heat in her palm. She frowned slightly, looking at Mu Zhi with concern, and spoke again.
“Have you caught a cold? Why are you so hot?”
After saying this, Chi Li remained confused.
Mu Zhi had already reached the Inedia stage, meaning she no longer required mortal food, and common illnesses naturally could not touch her.
Mu Zhi gently pulled down Chi Li’s hand which was covering her eyes. Her beautiful “peach blossom” eyes seemed veiled by a layer of watery mist, making it impossible for one to look away.
“I’m not sick,” Mu Zhi said, her voice still carrying a hint of a guilty conscience.
Hearing Mu Zhi’s denial, Chi Li felt slightly relieved, though she secretly planned to have Yun Xi check on her to see if her foundation had become unstable due to breaking through to the Foundation Establishment stage too quickly.
Thinking that Chi Li didn’t intend to pry further, Mu Zhi managed to let the heat in her face dissipate slightly. Then, she noticed a silk Pibo (drapery scarf) that had appeared in Chi Li’s hand at some unknown moment.
The Pibo was incredibly light and soft, colored a pale purple. Under the candlelight, it shimmered with a faint golden light, a color strikingly similar to the previous whip.
Seeing that Mu Zhi had noticed the silk scarf, Chi Li explained:
“I had it change its form so it’s easier for you to carry on your person. I’ve added a restriction to it so others won’t see its original appearance, but its function remains the same.”
Mu Zhi took the Pibo in her hand. The moment she swung it, it cut through the air like a gale, yet remained perfectly silent.
Just as it was about to strike another object, Chi Li took it back from Mu Zhi’s hand. The Pibo instantly turned soft, fluttering back into her palm as if it were truly just an ordinary silk scarf.
Mu Zhi looked delighted and couldn’t wait to drape it over herself, it happened to match the dress she was wearing today perfectly.
“Does this mean I can hit people in the future without anyone knowing?”
Watching Mu Zhi’s joyful expression, the curve of Chi Li’s lips deepened.
“Yes, they won’t.”
Mu Zhi’s hand brushed over the soft silk at the crook of her arm, a flash of mischief crossing her eyes as she glanced at Chi Li from the corner of her vision.
By the time Chi Li noticed, her wrist was already being enveloped by the soft fabric, which slowly climbed upward until it wrapped around her waist.
Chi Li wasn’t angry, she simply allowed Mu Zhi’s antics. Feeling the fabric loosely loop around her neck as well, she finally reached out to grasp one end and spoke helplessly.
“Stop playing around.”
The smile in Mu Zhi’s eyes didn’t fade in the slightest. Even though she had received a mild, painless rejection from Chi Li, she was still filled with joy. Her hand followed, grasping the other end of the Pibo.
The candlelight was bright, and treasures surrounded them. If the silk had been red, they would have looked exactly like a pair of newlywed brides receiving blessings from guests at this moment.
The Pibo slid back along its original path, brushing against Chi Li’s wrist and causing a faint itch, but Chi Li didn’t pay it any mind for the moment.
However, following Mu Zhi’s movements, the silver bell she hadn’t yet dealt with began to ring. The sound wasn’t loud, yet it seemed to bewitch the soul, making it impossible to ignore its presence.
Coming back to her senses, Mu Zhi remembered the object she was gripping. Her brow furrowed slightly; there wasn’t a trace of affection for it in her eyes, only the disgust of being forced to take it.
“Senior Sister, then this…”
Hearing Mu Zhi’s hesitant voice, Chi Li stared at the silver bell for a moment before finally speaking with a faint smile.
“Keep it. Didn’t you already say you wouldn’t use it to do anything to me?”
Mu Zhi nodded, then lowered her head, pondering which hidden corner she should throw it into to lock it away.
Just then, Qi Yan’s respectful voice came from outside.
“Immortal Venerable Yilin.”
Upon hearing this, Chi Li suddenly grabbed Mu Zhi’s wrist. Without any explanation, she led Mu Zhi toward the exit.
But the door opened at that very moment. The person who entered looked gentle and didn’t seem surprised to find them there.
“Chi Li,” Immortal Venerable Yilin spoke.
Chi Li released Mu Zhi’s wrist and lowered her eyes in a respectful bow.
“Master.”
Immortal Venerable Yilin’s gaze then fell upon Mu Zhi, lingering for a moment on the Pibo scarf before he spoke warmly.
“Has Mu Zhi finished choosing?”
With a bright smile in her eyes, Mu Zhi replied:
“Yes, Immortal Venerable Yilin. Eldest Senior Sister has already helped me choose.”
The person following behind Immortal Venerable Yilin stepped forward. He had developed a bit of arrogance over the past few days, but the moment he saw Chi Li, it seemed to crumble, and he immediately looked cowardly.
If an outsider didn’t know better, they would think Chi Li was bullying him, thus overlooking his guilty conscience.
Unwilling to entangle further, Chi Li maintained a respectful demeanor and said to Immortal Venerable Yilin:
“Master, it is late. I will take Mu Zhi back to rest.”
Immortal Venerable Yilin didn’t try to make them stay. He looked at the sky in the distance, although he didn’t quite understand why he felt the urge to come here in the middle of the night, he nodded to Chi Li and said:
“Then hurry back.”
Seeing them about to leave, Mo Fan hesitated as if he wanted to say something, his gaze constantly drifting toward Mu Zhi. Chi Li’s eyes turned cold; ignoring him, she hurried her pace as she led Mu Zhi away.
Near the doorway, Qi Yan, who was leaning lazily against the doorframe, spoke while yawning.
“How rare today is. Everyone is rushing here one by one in the middle of the night, not letting me get any sleep.”
Qi Yan complained a few more times. His eyes, barely open due to sleepiness, scanned the pavilion. He seemed to see something as his expression shifted slightly, though he quickly returned to normal.
