The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 78
Chapter 78
Second Cafeteria of Beijing University.
In a quiet small private booth on the far left of the second floor, near the window.
After mixing the noodles in her bowl, He Xia pushed them over to Zeng Wei. She then looked at Lan Yin, who was unusually dazed, and said cautiously: “Isn’t it great that Junior Su… uh, Auntie… Rabbit… is going to Milton University in the US as an exchange student? It’s only for seven days, basically a vacation. That’s a good thing, Junior Lan Yin. Why do you look so unhappy about it?”
It had been six days since Grandpa Lan passed away. He Xia was still struggling to get used to calling her roommate “Auntie.” The news that Su Yi’an and the “Little Auntie” (Lan Yan) had already registered their marriage had taken several days to digest; she could only barely accept it now.
Su Yi’an hadn’t been to school for a while, but the university had recently posted an announcement: Su Yi’an and Jiang Dong would be going to Milton University in the US for a seven-day exchange program.
He Xia didn’t understand why Lan Yin was so distracted, constantly checking her phone. She assumed Lan Yin was upset about the trip.
In reality, Lan Yin wasn’t listening at all. Her focus was entirely on her screen. Chen Zhi had recently finished her contract with Lan’s Jewelry—the results were spectacularly successful—and she was planning to return to the US in two days.
Ever since Lan Yin had ignored Chen Zhi at the funeral six days ago and even slapped her on someone else’s behalf, Chen Zhi hadn’t pestered her. Initially, Lan Yin felt a bit guilty but nothing more. Yet, receiving the news that Chen Zhi was leaving for the US today made her feel unexpectedly unsettled.
She hadn’t hit her on purpose. She had seen Chen Zhi leaving the funeral home holding a female Omega who was screaming. Thinking Chen Zhi was bullying the woman the way she had once bullied Lan Yin, her temper flared, and she slapped her without thinking. Later, she found out the female Omega had been the one pestering Chen Zhi. She had wronged her.
Chen Zhi had given her a deep look, said nothing, and left. The incident was caught by the media, and Chen Zhi dominated the headlines again: Shock! Movie Queen Chen Caught in Love-Hate Drama with Two Omegas Outside Funeral Home; Suspected Cheating Leads to Being Slapped into a Pig’s Head by Girlfriend.
Although the scandal was eventually suppressed, the Movie Queen became even more famous—or infamous. Her reputation took a hit, but the jewelry she endorsed—the “Peach Blossom” series—sold out immediately because the marketing team capitalized on the “romance” drama to turn a huge profit.
Lan Yin snapped out of her thoughts when He Xia repeated herself. She shook her head. “It’s not about Auntie Rabbit. It’s my own issue.”
Lan Yan had been heartbroken over Grandpa’s death, and Su Yi’an had stayed by her side. Two days ago, Lan Yan returned to work. Su Yi’an, claiming she was on “wedding leave,” didn’t go on a honeymoon. Instead, she stayed home, cooking and cleaning for Lan Yan.
She was more “virtuous” than many Omegas, and thanks to her care, the haggard Lan Yan was starting to recover. Su Yi’an drove her to work every day and even delivered lunch to her office. They were incredibly sweet; Lan Yin had even tagged along for lunch twice.
She had to admit, Su Yi’an’s cooking was excellent—far better than a certain Movie Queen who couldn’t tell salt from sugar. Thinking of the slightly burnt but edible fried rice Chen Zhi had once brought her, Lan Yin dazed off again. She had only told Chen Zhi to learn to cook as a joke, but the woman actually did it. No matter how cold Lan Yin was, Chen Zhi never seemed to care until that slap. That slap must have truly hurt her.
He Xia, meanwhile, looked like she had a toothache. She leaned in and whispered a question that seemed trivial to anyone else: “Junior Lan Yin, did the Little Auntie really mean it when she said she’d invite us over for dinner on the 1st of next month?”
When she first found out about the marriage, He Xia had blurted out a request for a celebratory meal. Lan Yan had agreed, saying she’d host them at the Lan estate once things settled. Now that the message had actually arrived, He Xia wanted to slap her own mouth.
She was the one who started the rumor that Su Yi’an was being “kept by an old woman.” She was also the one who told Lan Yan that Su Yi’an liked another Omega. She had practically courted death multiple times in front of the “Little Auntie.” Now she finally understood why Su Yi’an (and Lan Yan) looked so unhappy during that lunch at school.
Lan Yin was amused by He Xia’s terror. “It’s true. Why? Are you afraid to go?” He Xia gulped down her soup. “Haha… afraid? Me? No way. I was just asking.” In truth, she was terrified. Her roommate’s wife had an incredibly powerful aura. One look from that elder made her legs shake.
In a cafe below Lan Yan’s apartment building.
Chen Zhi greeted Su Yi’an the moment she walked in. “I say, Little Nun, why did you pick this place to meet? Don’t tell me you bought a flat here too?”
Su Yi’an sat down and gave a faint “Mmh.” She had bought a flat here, but she lived with her Sister now. She’d almost forgotten about that extra apartment.
Chen Zhi scrutinized Su Yi’an’s face. Seeing her calm demeanor, she assumed Su had failed her romantic pursuit. She pulled down her mask and leaned in. “Did you fail to get the girl? No wonder I saw your dad at the funeral the other day, but not you.”
Su Yi’an: “…” Fail to get her? She’s my wife now. We’re intimate every day. She had just delivered lunch to Lan Yan and received a passionate kiss before leaving. Only the secretary knew they were married; to everyone else, Su Yi’an was just a “delivery girl” in a rabbit mask. The employees even thought the CEO had developed a strange habit of only eating food from one specific, beautiful delivery girl.
Su Yi’an smiled, remembering how a male Omega at the office had tried to ask for her number today. Lan Yan had stepped out and said coldly, “Sorry, she only delivers for me.” The poor guy was terrified.
“I have to go to the US tomorrow to settle things with Madman Wang,” Su Yi’an thought. “I’ll find a way to tell Sister the truth when I get back.” She wasn’t indecisive, but she had to be careful with the person she loved.
She looked at Chen Zhi. “I heard you got slapped. Is your face better?” On the day of the funeral, Su Yi’an had avoided going in because she didn’t want to run into Old Man Su. Lan Yan had looked so pale that Su Yi’an used it as an excuse to take her to the hospital instead. When they returned, both her father and Chen Zhi were gone. She hadn’t expected Chen Zhi to go to the funeral, but then again, Chen Zhi’s feelings for her niece, Lan Yin, made it understandable.
Chen Zhi wasn’t angry about the question. She touched her healed cheek boastfully. “You wouldn’t understand. My girlfriend did it. A single dog like you, who hasn’t even caught her crush, won’t understand the ‘little flirtations’ between girlfriends.”
Actually, Chen Zhi had been hurt when Lan Yin slapped her, but mostly she was worried Lan Yin hated her. She was leaving for the US tomorrow and hadn’t even managed to hold Lan Yin’s hand since the “little woods” incident. She was desperate.
Su Yi’an’s eyelid flickered. “Oh. A ‘little flirtation’ that involves a swollen face? I think I’ll pass.” She really wanted to tell Chen Zhi that her Sister didn’t hit people; she only left long red scratch marks on Su Yi’an’s back. But the idiot Chen Zhi wouldn’t understand that either.
“Why did you call me here?” Su Yi’an asked as she stirred milk and sugar into her coffee. She wanted to spend today with her wife—shopping, movies, or “making a little person.” She didn’t want to waste time on Chen Zhi. To her, a wife was like a limb, indispensable; a friend was like a coat, optional.
Chen Zhi choked. “I’m going back to the US tomorrow. I came to say goodbye.” She was annoyed Su Yi’an wasn’t jealous. How was she supposed to steer the conversation toward asking for advice?
Su Yi’an paused. “You’re going back to the US too?” “Why ‘too’?” “Nothing.” Su Yi’an took a sip of the coffee. So bitter. The thought of being away from her Sister was bitter, even with milk and sugar.
“If you’ve got nothing else, I’m leaving,” Su Yi’an said, standing up. Lan Yan had agreed to get off work early today because they were about to be apart for a week. Su Yi’an wanted to prepare a surprise—nothing too expensive, but something thoughtful.
“Wait!” Chen Zhi stopped her. “Since I’ll be away for a few days, I want to ask a favor. Look after Lan Yin for me.” She was worried the popular Lan Yin would be snatched away by some other Alpha while she was gone. “You’re pursuing her Auntie anyway. Lan Yin will be your niece in the future. It’s good to build a relationship with the niece to get to the Auntie, right?”
Su Yi’an smiled playfully. “Sorry, I’m busy. I can’t watch her for you.” “Busy? Doing what?” Chen Zhi asked. As far as she knew, Lan Yin was free lately.
Su Yi’an couldn’t resist. “Busy spending time with my wife.” She was telling the truth, but Chen Zhi didn’t believe her for a second. “Keep bragging, Little Nun. I bet you haven’t even held Lan Yan’s hand. She’s colder than my Yin Yin.”
Su Yi’an didn’t argue. She checked the time. “Believe what you want. I’m busy.” Seeing her leave, Chen Zhi’s eyes dimmed. She really wanted to take Lan Yin with her, but she knew the girl would refuse. Lan Yin hadn’t even replied to her texts yet.
Su Yi’an ignored the despondent Movie Queen. She headed to a flower shop and the market to buy Sister’s favorite flowers and food. Just as she reached the flower shop, her phone rang.
“An An, where are you?” Old Man Su’s voice boomed. “Don’t hang up! I have something to tell you!” Su Yi’an was about to end the call, but he talked faster. “I checked on the Lan girl. She’s already married! An An, you have no chance. Come back, I’ve arranged another blind date for you…”
“No need.” Click. Su Yi’an hung up. She knew Sister was married. She was the one she was married to. She didn’t need any more blind dates.
