Huh?
When Li Qingran was pressed against the door by Gu Shiyu, with one of Gu Shiyu’s knees wedged between his legs as he was met with the other’s overwhelming pheromones, he was truly tempted to laugh from sheer anger.
What are you joining in for now?
Can not a single major character in this world follow the original plot of the book? Are they all this rebellious? Of course, Li Qingran did not deny that he had been silently guiding the meeting between Jiang Siran and Su Jingyi, but that had nothing to do with Gu Shiyu. Gu Shiyu had no part to play in this scene. Could he not just stay quiet and act as a silent background observer like him?
Furthermore, even if Li Qingran took a step back and conceded that it was normal for Gu Shiyu, as an Alpha, to be affected by an Omega’s pheromones, he should have gone and gotten involved with the two people inside the room. Why was he pinning an Alpha like him against the wall?
Li Qingran did not want to understand, nor did he want to respect this.
Gu Shiyu looked as if he had lost all reason, lured by the Omega’s pheromones. A hazy mist covered his usually deep black eyes, and a damp heat rose on his handsome, pale face, matching the waves of red wine fragrance that assailed Li Qingran.
Li Qingran frowned. His stomach churned with intense discomfort under the attack of the Alpha pheromones. He felt like vomiting, yet nothing came out. His brain felt as if it had been thrown into a blender. While he felt a strong sense of dizziness, his rationality was being completely shredded by that cold metal machinery. Violence, battle intent, and a series of Alpha instincts made him unable to control the urge to attack Gu Shiyu.
In the air, the mellow scent of wine grew thicker, making one feel as if they were in an ancient wine cellar. Before even starting to drink, a faint sense of intoxication had already taken hold.
Doing this was actually quite stupid, because an Alpha’s pheromones are only seductive and inducing to an Omega. To an Alpha of the same gender, they could only be a provocation and an attack.
Gu Shiyu thought this, yet he still uncontrollably released pheromones into the surroundings. Those wisps of red wine fragrance reached out toward Li Qingran like tentacles, entwining around his wrists, ankles, long legs, narrow waist, and that fragile neck.
As if testing him, or perhaps trying to prove something, the Alpha’s pheromones acted like suction cups, leaving faint red marks on the beautiful youth’s exposed fair skin.
“Does it feel bad?” Gu Shiyu suddenly murmured in Li Qingran’s ear. His voice sounded clear, as if he were lucid. However, before Li Qingran could react, his voice suddenly became dazed, and he fell once more into that state triggered by the Omega’s pheromones.
“It hurts. I feel so bad.”
That icy scent that had always fallen on others was finally released from the gland for him at this moment. It was like a long-overdue blizzard. While it made Gu Shiyu feel a sense of joy, he also felt pain and suffocation due to the storm’s intensity.
Gu Shiyu felt as if every inch of his flesh was aching under the attack of Li Qingran’s pheromones. This physiological reaction made him want to let go of the hand gripping the Alpha’s wrist, but his brain, which was growing increasingly excited for some reason, and his heart, which was beating more and more violently, pulled at him. He could not bear to let go.
The nausea brought about by mutual Alpha repulsion clearly existed within him, but even so, he still wanted to feel more of that icy atmosphere.
Was he sick? Or had he become abnormal after witnessing the intimate contact between Jiang Siran and Li Qingran? Would Li Qingran feel the same way about him? Was he only choosing to leave Su Jingyi to be with an Alpha like Jiang Siran because he liked this kind of feeling?
He just simply liked Alphas, right? It had absolutely nothing to do with whether that Alpha was Jiang Siran or not, right?
Gu Shiyu’s throat became uncontrollably dry. As his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, his brain became even more chaotic. Gu Shiyu struggled to figure out the reason behind the abnormal emotions and reactions he felt whenever he faced Li Qingran, whether it was from just now, during their phone call, or from even longer ago.
Out of a desire to get engaged to Su Jingyi, he had wanted to send away this threatening element to the marriage. Yet, when the other was about to leave, he had instinctively called out to him, telling him he could contact him at any time and seek his help whenever needed. He would feel joy because of a photo the other sent casually and would instantly become tense if something happened to him. Even simple information from the other would trigger a mess of tangled thoughts.
What was wrong with him!
Gu Shiyu’s breathing became increasingly rapid. His burning blood felt as if it were about to set him on fire.
An Alpha and an Alpha cannot be together! How could an Alpha and an Alpha be together? Can an Alpha and an Alpha really be together?
Gu Shiyu instinctively looked at Li Qingran. The handsome, lean Alpha’s brow was slightly furrowed. His glass-like gray eyes were also filled with heavy moisture. The flush that had appeared on his face when he was with Jiang Siran surfaced again, even deeper than before. He looked extremely uncomfortable. His long, fair fingers were clenched tightly, and his head was tilted slightly to the side, appearing to reject the proximity.
But for some reason, he did not attack him. Was it because he did not want things to become more chaotic? Or did he simply not want to attack him?
Gu Shiyu bit the tip of his tongue. The pain made him lucid and made the redness at the corners of his eyes more apparent. He desperately wanted to ask Li Qingran: at this moment when he was suppressing his urge to attack, who was in his mind? Was it Jiang Siran? Was it Su Jingyi? Or was it… him?
Could it be him? Gu Shiyu wanted to know, and yet he did not.
For the first time, the Alpha who usually cared only for results and not the process felt an impulse not to ask for the outcome. Since he was the one currently pressed intimately against Li Qingran, and since he was the one with whom pheromones were being mutually released, why should he not take advantage of this time alone together? Why not let the Alpha’s gaze linger on him a little longer?
It did not matter who the Alpha was thinking about. What mattered was who he was with right now. Gu Shiyu did not want to struggle anymore. He gripped Li Qingran’s hand and turned, intending to kiss him.
However, at that moment, with a microscopic click, the pressure he felt from pinning Li Qingran against the door suddenly vanished. The door, which had been closed tight, opened a crack. Gu Shiyu’s eyes widened. He instinctively straightened up, trying to catch the Alpha who was falling backward.
In the next second, the Alpha fell into an unexpected embrace.
Jiang Siran’s body still carried the heavy scent of the Omega’s pheromones. The back of the right hand he used to hold Li Qingran was dripping blood, but he seemed not to feel it. His dark green eyes gleamed with a mechanical, cold light, like a venomous snake baring its fierce fangs at him.
“It is time for you to leave.” In the silent space, only Jiang Siran’s cold voice echoed.
Gu Shiyu instinctively looked at Li Qingran, but the latter’s gaze was no longer on him.
Li Qingran was tilted slightly. The collar of his clothes had slipped down due to Gu Shiyu’s refusal to let go, revealing a fair shoulder and a thin, deep collarbone that became more prominent with his posture. He was carefully examining Jiang Siran, seemingly checking his body, while his mouth moved. Gu Shiyu could not hear clearly but roughly read from his lips a question about whether Jiang Siran had marked Su Jingyi.
“I will tell you about that later,” Jiang Siran whispered back, pursing his lips. He then looked up at Gu Shiyu again, his voice many times colder than when he faced Li Qingran.
“Can you let go now? Your fiancé is still lying inside.”
“Excuse me, we are not engaged yet.”
Perhaps at the beginning, Gu Shiyu had considered letting go, but after Jiang Siran spoke, he suddenly did not want to.
“So, strictly speaking, he is not my fiancé yet. That means the person in this house most closely related to Su Jingyi should be the Alpha you are currently holding.”
“Should you not be the one to let go? Do you like grabbing other people’s boyfriends that much?” Gu Shiyu countered.
“You mother!”
Jiang Siran was about to be driven mad by Gu Shiyu’s shameless words. His emotions were already unstable. If Li Qingran were not right there, Jiang Siran guaranteed that Gu Shiyu’s face would have made intimate contact with his fist the moment the door opened.
He barely managed to calm his heart and said coldly, “Then should you not also let go? Even if Su Jingyi is not your fiancé, he is still your good friend, right? What are you doing holding on to your good friend’s boyfriend?”
“Otherwise, what did you think Su Jingyi and I came here for? To see what kind of dump you’re living in?”
“Gu Shiyu! Do you really have to?”
Before Jiang Siran could finish, he let go of his grip and began charging menacingly toward Gu Shiyu. However, Li Qingran grabbed his arm. The tension in Jiang Siran’s muscles vanished instantly; the “vicious dog” that had been ready to bite came to a sudden halt.
“Call the doctor first,” Li Qingran said to Jiang Siran, before turning his head toward Gu Shiyu. “Let’s go somewhere else to talk.”
Li Qingran had only wanted to see if Jiang Siran would lose control and become addicted to Su Jingyi’s pheromones as dictated by the plot. He never intended to leave the Omega there unattended to fend for himself.
After all, they had spent a lot of time together. Moreover, as a primary character supporting the world’s framework, it was impossible for Su Jingyi to simply “clock out” of the story like this.
Li Qingran himself hadn’t even finished his own shift yet.
Thinking this, Li Qingran broke free from Gu Shiyu’s hold and released Jiang Siran’s arm. After the medical staff rushed in with their kits to carry Su Jingyi to a clean room, Li Qingran was the first to lead the way out of the room thick with the scent of four different pheromones.
Gu Shiyu and Jiang Siran followed closely behind, forced to walk side-by-side. Whenever one Alpha tried to quicken his pace to get closer to Li Qingran, the other would promptly pull him back.
Furthermore, Li Qingran’s tone had been quite serious earlier; he clearly didn’t want them fighting. Consequently, after much pulling and tugging, the two Alphas could only hold their breath and walk together in begrudging silence.
Li Qingran was naturally aware of the commotion behind him but didn’t care to intervene. He picked a room resembling a study and sat on the central sofa before looking up at Gu Shiyu.
“Once the doctor finishes checking Jingyi, if there’s nothing serious, you two should head back.”
Gu Shiyu, who had been locked in a silent struggle with Jiang Siran, froze. It took him several seconds to process Li Qingran’s words.
“You’re not coming back with me?”
“No,” Li Qingran nodded.
The gesture made Gu Shiyu’s heart feel even heavier. “But didn’t we agree before? I was supposed to help you leave.”
“Tch!”
Hearing this, Jiang Siran let out a sudden, mocking sneer as if he’d thought of something amusing.
Li Qingran glanced at him, but Gu Shiyu had no time for Jiang Siran. His dark eyes were fixed intently on Li Qingran, who had just dropped this bombshell.
“I’ve already prepared everything. As long as you come back with me now, I can get you out of Nancheng tonight.”
“But after what just happened, do you think Jingyi will let me leave?” Li Qingran countered.
Gu Shiyu: “…”
Li Qingran continued, “So, the best way forward is for you to take Jingyi and leave now, while he isn’t fully conscious.”
“What about you?!” Gu Shiyu interrupted before Li Qingran could finish.
“Me? I’m staying, of course,” Li Qingran said calmly, looking at Gu Shiyu. “This way, I’ve technically left Jingyi’s side. It won’t affect the bond between the two of you later. This doesn’t actually conflict with the plan we discussed, does it?”
So why are you opposing this now? Gu Shiyu read that unspoken question in Li Qingran’s grey eyes.
What on earth am I hesitating for?!
Gu Shiyu’s hands clenched unconsciously on his knees. Even he didn’t know why his heart suddenly felt hollow the moment Li Qingran said he was staying. An anxiety as if something vital was slipping through his fingers made him argue reflexively.
“But you can’t guarantee that if you stay, Su Jingyi won’t come looking for you again.”
“Mr. Gu doesn’t need to worry about that at all.”
Before Li Qingran could respond, Jiang Siran spoke up first with a smug expression.
“Qingran is coming back to Beicheng with me in a couple of days. Barring any accidents, we probably won’t return to Nancheng. So don’t worry even if Su Jingyi comes to this manor, he won’t find Qingran. There won’t be any scandals about him seeing a lover while married for the media to photograph.”
“Therefore…” Jiang Siran’s smile grew even more radiant as he looked at Gu Shiyu. “You can put your mind at ease and go marry Mr. Su. Qingran and I wish you a happy marriage in advance!”
“You!”
Gu Shiyu nearly snapped, but he managed to restrain himself. He turned back to Li Qingran, posing a question that seemed to come from the depths of his soul.
“Are you really set on him? Don’t forget how he plotted against you today. And how long have you two even known each other? You’re trusting him with yourself just like that?”
“Hey! Why are you talking like that!”
Jiang Siran bristled, about to jump up, but a single sentence from Li Qingran smoothed his feathers right back down.
“If we’re talking about the length of time we’ve known each other besides Jingyi, between you, Qi Ziyan, and Ah Ran, he is indeed the one I met first.”
Li Qingran pointed at Jiang Siran, who immediately lifted his chin in triumph.
“…”
Gu Shiyu gritted his teeth. He wanted to say more to persuade Li Qingran to leave with him, but before he could speak, the Alpha rose from the sofa with a tone that brooked no argument.
“Regardless, Mr. Gu, I am very grateful for the help you’ve given me during this time. If you ever visit Beicheng in the future, I’ll be sure to host you properly.”
“Bring me along too!” Jiang Siran added, unwilling to be left out.
Li Qingran smiled at him without speaking. Gu Shiyu continued to ignore the person beside him who was constantly seeking attention.
He just kept staring at Li Qingran. Although Li Qingran was looking at him while speaking, Gu Shiyu had the illusion that the Alpha was looking at someone else entirely.
Why?
Why couldn’t he leave with him?
Anything Jiang Siran could give, Gu Shiyu could give and more!
Besides, he was also an Alpha…
The taste of blood filled Gu Shiyu’s mouth as he bit his lip. He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Eventually, he just nodded slowly at Li Qingran and walked quickly out of the study.
Soon, the black car that had sped into the Jiang family manor through the heavy rain departed like a swift arrow into the night. A warm body pressed against Li Qingran’s back.
Li Qingran didn’t turn around. He looked at the window in front of him; the transparent glass reflected the clouded, unreadable expression of the Alpha behind him.
“Is there something you want to say to me?” Li Qingran asked.
In truth, from the moment he had reached out to open the door and leaned into Jiang Siran’s embrace, he had caught a fleeting flash of complexity in the Alpha’s eyes.
At the time, Gu Shiyu was still there, and the Alpha was busy bickering with him—or perhaps he wanted to speak in private. Either way, Li Qingran hadn’t asked then. But now, Jiang Siran was clinging to him again.
“…”
At first, Jiang Siran just held Li Qingran in silence. The wound on his hand had stopped bleeding, but because it hadn’t been treated, blood still stained his pale skin. Combined with the jagged marks from the bite, it looked gruesome.
The injury was a testament to how much willpower the Alpha had exerted to restrain himself.
Li Qingran’s fingers twitched. He pursed his lips, about to suggest they go treat the wound, but before he could speak, a whisper brushed past his ear.
“Actually, you let me hug Su Jingyi on purpose, didn’t you?”
