- The Cannon Fodder Real Young Master is a Slime?!
- Chapter 15 - Treating You to Barbecue This was the first time Shi Yunmu had followed Lu Que to eat...
The night breeze curled around falling leaves as they slowly drifted down, and a blanket of silence enveloped the perimeter wall of C University.
It was Lu Que who broke the silence first, asking in an unreadable tone, “What are you doing coming out from there?”
Shi Yunmu froze, racking his brain as he desperately tried to find a reason: “…Coming out to forage for food.”
He said in a small voice, “The dorm has a curfew, and I was afraid of being caught sneaking out, so I climbed over the wall.”
Half-squatting on top of the wall, his legs were already starting to go numb. Shi Yunmu shifted his weight to his other leg to prop himself up, persisting in puffing out his chest to look a bit more imposing so he could meet Lu Que’s gaze.
The man’s jet-black eyes stared at him, and several shifting, ambiguous emotions surfaced within those ink-colored pupils.
Lu Que did not speak immediately, looking as though he were still weighing the truth of Shi Yunmu’s words.
Shi Yunmu did not know whether the other man believed him or not, but he boldly guessed that Lu Que would most likely choose to believe it. In his line of work, Lu Que must have heard Ming He, who was also a graduate of C University, complain about the university’s bizarre curfew regulations; moreover, Lu Que came from a police academy background, and weren’t the curfew rules in police academy dorms even stricter?
Looking at it this way, Lu Que would be inclined to accept it.
Sure enough, the man seemed to choose to believe him: “Come down.”
Shi Yunmu did not move, slowly asking back the question he cared about the most: “Wait a minute, how did you know who I was?”
He was even wearing a baseball cap!
Equally unexpected was bumping into his boss’s husband here; Xiao Wei could be considered to have received quite a fright. Without making a sound, it rolled and tumbled into Shi Yunmu’s hoodie, hiding away to play dead.
Glancing at the magic creature still half-squatting on the wall, Lu Que did not answer right away, saying calmly, “Don’t chat up there, come down.”
The slime, who was usually physically strong, put on a display of weakness: “I can’t get down.”
Lu Que: “…”
Lu Que: “Then how did you get up there?”
Shi Yunmu looked back, putting on an innocent expression, and explained, “There are rocks, and there’s a bench.”
Those supporting structures were enough for him to get up.
“Sigh.”
The man let out a sigh and extended his hands: “Jump down, I will catch you.”
Shi Yunmu froze for a moment, looking at Lu Que’s open arms.
The other man still maintained that same calm, indifferent expression, yet his actions completely contrasted with the coldness in his eyes and brows.
After hesitating for a second, Shi Yunmu jumped straight down.
He did not consider for a moment what would happen if Lu Que failed to catch him.
Fortunately, a situation where he wasn’t caught did not occur. Steady, powerful arms precisely locked the youth into an embrace, without staggering, without stumbling, and without any muffled groans of pain. Everything happened silently, but as the familiar scent wrapped around him, the fingers holding him could not help but tremble imperceptibly.
This was the first time Lu Que had held someone, and there was not much residual warmth between his palms the youth’s body was very cool, which was far too peculiar in such hot summer weather; his waist was also very slender, and a single arm was enough to encircle and press him against his chest.
The person with such a slender waist raised his fluffy head, his baseball cap pressing his hair into a messy state. The youth’s dark green eyes were round and moist, rippling with a bit of fragmented light, shining brilliantly under the stark white streetlamp: “Hubby, how did you know it was me?”
He still cared deeply about this question.
His gaze swept over the hoodie as if inadvertently, and releasing the person who was staring at him intently, Lu Que said calmly, “You only wore a hat.”
This wasn’t a comic book where putting on a hat meant people wouldn’t recognize you; what exactly could a baseball cap cover up?
Shi Yunmu felt indignant, deeply committing the failed disguise to memory: “How frustrating, I should wear something else next time I come out.”
Pausing, he asked again, “Hubby, why are you here? Is there something going on? Or did you come here to eat?”
If the true reason were to be spoken, it was naturally that the Special Security Section had come out to eliminate the Gugu Crows of course, Lu Que would not tell Shi Yunmu this reason.
Lu Que said flatly, “On duty.”
Patrolling for traces of the Gugu Crows counted as a type of duty. Lu Que had originally intended to put on his mask and begin working, who would have known he would bump into a certain fellow just happening to leap onto the top of the wall.
“What do you want to eat?” After brushing over the explanation in one sentence, the topic shifted easily as Lu Que asked.
The excuse of foraging for food was entirely fabricated, so how could Shi Yunmu know what he wanted to eat? Thus, he could only say honestly, “I haven’t thought about it.”
Hearing this answer, Lu Que paused, looking not the least bit surprised: “Then I will take you to eat.”
After saying this, he lowered his head, pulled out his phone, and sent a few messages before raising his head to say, “Let’s go.”
He took a step with his long legs and walked ahead. Shi Yunmu pattered along to keep up, asking, “Eat what?”
He speculated, “Are we going home to make it?”
Lu Que took a deep look at him: “Too far.”
Shi Yunmu immediately nodded in agreement: “True, so we are eating nearby?”
“Yes.”
“But the snack street is basically closed, the only things open are the 24-hour chain supermarkets,” Shi Yunmu reminded him.
Lu Que said, “Not at the snack street.”
C University was within the vicinity of the Qinghe University Town, and the snack street was not the only place within the university town where one could find food.
Deep within an alleyway, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant was still lit up.
Shi Yunmu did not expect Lu Que to lead him to this kind of place to eat; the man possessed a face that looked as though he did not consume the food of mortals, yet he naturally pulled out a small stool and even wiped the grease stains off Shi Yunmu’s stool, gesturing for him to sit.
Shi Yunmu carefully sat down on the small stool, his long legs slightly bent, looking somewhat aggrieved as he sat.
When the barbecue shop owner arrived and saw Lu Que’s face, his reaction was not surprising; but when he saw Shi Yunmu, he froze for a moment, joking, “Oh, tonight my shop actually has two faces that make the place look splendid.”
His tone was familiar, showing clearly that he knew Lu Que.
Lu Que was also well-accustomed to the place and ordered many skewers. Once the barbecue shop owner left, the previously well-behaved Shi Yunmu asked curiously, “Do you know each other?”
Lu Que nodded: “In the past, when lying in wait for… suspects, I would often come here to eat with my teammates.”
“Oh, oh, I see.” Shi Yunmu looked like he understood, his mind automatically translating the words: When working overtime!
Recalling the increased number of Gugu Crows in the surrounding area recently, Shi Yunmu prayed that what the barbecue shop owner served would not be magic creature barbecue.
He had eaten charcoal-grilled Gugu Crow for a long time and still wanted to taste something else.
“Barbecue is here!”
The iron tray was brought to the table accompanied by heat, and Shi Yunmu inspected it carefully; it was indeed not magic creature barbecue.
The barbecue shop owner was very hospitable, pointing to the chili powder placed to the side: “Little handsome guy, if you want it spicier, add it yourself.”
Shi Yunmu smiled: “Thanks, bro!”
Over there, Lu Que had already sprinkled chili powder on his food, his expression not changing at all, looking like he could handle spicy food very well.
Although he had been in C City for a long time, Shi Yunmu truly had not eaten much spicy food. He hesitated a bit and also sprinkled a little chili powder, carefully opening his mouth to take a bite of a beef cube.
The moment it entered his mouth, the youth’s eyes instantly lit up: “So delicious!”
He finished it in two or three bites, and as soon as he finished, he began to chug water, gulp, gulp, gulp. Even though he was rendered extremely teary-eyed from the spice, Shi Yunmu still gave a thumbs-up: “It really is delicious!”
This was the second meal Shi Yunmu had eaten with Lu Que, and it truly was far more delicious than charcoal-grilled Gugu Crow!
Lu Que glanced at him; the youth was still licking his lips with lingering desire. His tongue appeared and disappeared between his lips, and his lips were flushed red from the spice, coated with a layer of glistening moisture.
His eyes were the same, forced to shed physiological tears from the spice, pooling with a smear of water, the corners of his eyes completely red.
…He did not look at all like a magic creature that liked to disrupt order.
Completely unaware of the scrutinizing gaze opposite him, Shi Yunmu was still struggling valiantly with the barbecue, but he did not dare to touch the chili powder again.
Not being very spicy was also quite good!
Once Shi Yunmu finished off everything cleanly, Lu Que then said, “Let’s go, return early.”
He escorted Shi Yunmu back to the previous wall, preparing to watch the fellow who “couldn’t get down” head back.
Shi Yunmu: “.”
Should he just walk through the main gate instead? At most, he would be scolded a bit by the counselor the next day.
Seeing Shi Yunmu remaining completely motionless, a trace of a smile flashed through Lu Que’s eyes. He planned to leave, since there were still magic creatures that needed to be dealt with: “Goodnight, I’m leaving.”
Pausing, he said, “Rest early.”
Seeing that the man was about to leave, Shi Yunmu let out a great sigh of relief and waved his hand happily: “Goodnight, hubby.” He blinked, “Don’t miss me too much, I’m going home tomorrow!”
Lu Que: “…Mm.”
Finally, after staying in the dorm for such a long time, Shi Yunmu successfully completed his move-out process.
Not only was Shi Yunmu happy, but the roommates who had been tormented by him were also happy.
They finally spoke their first sentence of the semester to Shi Yunmu: “Leaving?”
“Yes.” Shi Yunmu packed up cleanly, not even leaving behind the blanket and pillow on the bed.
They quickly exchanged glances with one another, uniformly revealing relaxed smiles: “Ah, good, have a safe trip.”
Shi Yunmu gave them a smile, which again caused his roommates to break out in goosebumps collectively, before he swaggered away.
Xiao Wei could safely come out again to catch some fresh air: “My Lord, are you just going to let them off like this?”
No matter how one looked at it, ostracization was still bad.
“How is that possible?” Shi Yunmu said in surprise, “Do you think I look like that kind of person?”
His tone was cheerful: “I forwarded everything that was inside the original ‘Shi Yunmu’s’ computer to the counselor.”
Not long after their front feet stepped out of the dorm door, their back feet could hear a burst of frantic chaos and crashing sounds from inside: “Holy crap, the counselor said he knows I cheated on the final exam last semester?!”
“Ahhh, who gave that dead old man the evidence that I didn’t attend a single class last semester!”
“It’s over, the counselor wants me to go over right now…”
Hearing this clear as day, Xiao Wei sucked in a breath of cold air: “My Lord, you have learned the dirty tricks of humans to a full hundred percent.”
Shi Yunmu was displeased: “What’s wrong with this? This is called advancing with the times.”
Xiao Wei: “…”
It said against its own conscience: “Right, right, advancing with the times is exactly as it should be!”
Only then did Shi Yunmu stop paying attention to it.
Xiao Wei let out a sigh of relief; that was close, it was almost thrown down.
Carrying the backpack stuffed to the brim, Shi Yunmu walked downstairs.
Lu Que said he would wait for him at the North Gate; walking toward the North Gate required passing through the school’s sports field.
The weather this afternoon was quite decent, with an acceptable temperature, so there were still people playing ball and exercising on the field.
Shi Yunmu had no interest in human sports where they chased a ball around; the youth looked straight ahead, intending to pass by the field.
But some people were not willing to let him walk away so calmly.
Bang!
A basketball was clearly flung toward Shi Yunmu, carrying a gust of wind. The youth tilted his head slightly, dodging it naturally.
Xiao Wei was startled by that force: “Holy crap, My Lord, this person has a grudge against you!”
Before Shi Yunmu could speak, someone over there ran over: “Oh, sorry, sorry, my hand slipped, are you alright?”
The boy who ran over had a somewhat strange smile, a glint of provocation in his downcast eyes.
The visitor came with ill intent, by no means genuinely coming to apologize.
Shi Yunmu made a judgment: This should be a pursuer of Shi Yubai, coming to vent anger on Shi Yubai’s behalf.
The other party also sized up Shi Yunmu’s small frame from top to bottom, thinking disdainfully in his heart: What real young master? The moment he gets bullied, he’ll definitely cry his eyes out.
The boy with downcast eyes said frivolously, “Oh, isn’t this Young Master Shi? Blame me for not seeing clearly—”
Before he could finish his words, the youth carrying the large backpack walked over and picked up the ball, then fiercely hurled it toward him!
The boy with downcast eyes widened his eyes. That ball carried greater force and faster speed than his own; before he could react, it slammed directly onto his face. It was a heavy strike, the sound so loud that everyone around them could hear it clearly.
Shi Yunmu clapped his hands, smiling slightly: “Then your eyesight is indeed not very good.”
Nosebleed flowed from beneath the boy’s nose, his entire face struck bright red by the ball. He pointed at Shi Yunmu, completely unexpecting that the other party would not give him any chance to react or talk back: “You, you…”
The youth shrugged his shoulders: “I don’t speak to people who can’t even speak clearly, idiocy is easily contagious.”
After saying this, Shi Yunmu hitched up his bag and left directly.
Xiao Wei was still cursing: “My Lord, well done! This kind of person simply deserves to be killed!”
“Uh, um? My Lord, are we not going to kill him?” Xiao Wei looked back; the boy with downcast eyes was still staring at Shi Yunmu’s departing back with a venomous expression.
Shi Yunmu said, “Are you stupid? In broad daylight under everyone’s eyes, how am I supposed to kill him?”
He let out a light laugh: “Don’t worry, this human will definitely follow us to retaliate, as if I wouldn’t understand? But waiting for his retaliation will take some time,” Shi Yunmu stroked his chin, stopping his footsteps, “I should still leave a little surprise for them.”
“You went to provoke Shi Yunmu?” Inside the classroom, Sheng Jinghuai twirled his pen, frowning as he looked at the boy with downcast eyes in front of him, who had two pieces of tissue stuffed into his nostrils.
The boy with downcast eyes spoke with a resentful tone: “Yeah, that kid is incredibly arrogant! We can’t let him continue to be this arrogant, it’s bad for Yubai.”
He peeked at Sheng Jinghuai: “As Yubai’s… fiancé, shouldn’t you also hate him? I have a method here to fix that kid, why don’t we…”
Before his words could be finished, he was interrupted by Sheng Jinghuai’s knitted brows and refusal: “If you are referring to those low-class methods of yours, I won’t do it.”
The eldest young master of the Sheng family raised his chin: “If one wants to strike back, it should be done uprightly and honorably, open and aboveboard!”
“Moreover,” Sheng Jinghuai said disdainfully, “if you use those tricks to deal with Shi Yunmu, it will also tarnish Yubai’s reputation.”
Did he not understand this eyesore of a love rival in front of him? Full of vices of every kind, only acting obediently in front of Shi Yubai.
The boy with downcast eyes: “…”
Why on earth did Shi Yubai choose this kind of idiot to be his fiancé?
The boy with downcast eyes agreed verbally: “Fine, fine, fine, I’ll give up.”
Yet his eyes were dark and heavy, clearly not giving up.
If Sheng Jinghuai was unwilling, then he would just do it himself.
Thinking that the boy had truly agreed, Sheng Jinghuai took his tablet, preparing to leave.
Opening the classroom door, however, he faced a pile of mutated bird corpses that were grotesque enough to require censoring.
The boy with downcast eyes happened to be walking behind him, and both of them looked at the sight, falling into silence.
…Who on earth put such disgusting things at the door?!
