Chapter 6: Do You Even Have a Point?
Mo Xun recalled the plot of the book, The Heartless Dao Master Sister.
Whether it was Yun Wushang’s fall to the Demonic Dao or her severe injuries, both seemed related to the Tianshan Immortal Sect, one of the three major immortal sects.
However, Mo Xun had no recollection of the specific reasons for her demonic fall or how she sustained her severe injuries.
The system responded: “Yun Wushang was originally the chief disciple and adopted daughter of the Tianshan Immortal Sect leader, Yun Qianzhong. She was expelled by Yun Qianzhong for her rebellious behavior, which displeased her fellow disciples, and consequently fell to the Demonic Dao.”
Mo Xun: “What kind of rebellious behavior?”
System: “The original book didn’t specify.”
Mo Xun: “Alright.”
It seemed that to find out the reason for Yun Wushang’s demonic fall, she would have to ask the woman herself if the opportunity arose.
When they reached the clearing on the back mountain, Mo Xun spotted the two snowy-white figures from afar.
Yun Wushang was as beautiful as ever; simply standing there motionlessly was a breathtaking piece of art.
Bai Muqing had her face covered with a white veil, making her features unclear. Her hands were clasped in front of her, and her posture was dignified.
Chu Jiuqu approached the two and bowed low: “Greetings to Master, the Sect Leader.”
Mo Xun followed suit, bowing low: “Greetings to Master, the Sect Leader.”
Bai Muqing’s gaze swept over their faces, and she spoke in her calm voice: “The spiritual energy is rich and pure. All your Golden Cores are high-grade Water element. Very good, very good. None of you three have disappointed your Master. However, the Grand Immortal Sect Competition isn’t only won by high cultivation. Today, I shall test your combat skills.”
With that, she raised her hand, her long sword unsheathed, and she immediately launched an attack with all three of them as her opponents!
Chu Jiuqu was the first to react, drawing her sword to block. Yun Wushang quickly spun to evade.
Mo Xun watched helplessly as her Master’s long sword swept toward her throat. A strong sense of crisis suddenly surged in her heart, and she instinctively leaned backward.
The blade swept past, almost touching the tip of her nose. Although it didn’t hurt her in the slightest, it caused her to lose her balance and fall awkwardly onto the ground.
Mo Xun: “You scared me!”
Mo Xun: “Did evasion take effect just now?”
Before the system could answer, Mo Xun suddenly felt another strong sense of crisis. She instinctively rolled to the side. Immediately after she rolled away, her Master’s long sword stabbed the spot where she had just been lying.
System: “Evasion took effect this time. You dodged the previous sword yourself!”
Mo Xun: “Really? I can’t tell the difference… but there’s no need to distinguish.”
Mo Xun quickly got up, dusty but unharmed, and drew her sword.
“Be careful, Junior Sister!” Chu Jiuqu shouted as she actively attacked Bai Muqing.
Bai Muqing’s next sword was originally directed at Mo Xun. Seeing Chu Jiuqu attack her, she immediately used her sword to block the strike.
Bai Muqing’s companion sword fought back and forth with Chu Jiuqu as if it had a life of its own. Bai Muqing herself formed seals with both hands, causing a large amount of water mist to permeate the clearing.
Mo Xun: This is bad, it’s the Water Moon Sword Art. I won’t know where the next attack will come from. If only a gust of wind could blow the mist away.
Mo Xun thought of the cold air Yun Wushang used to close the door, and subconsciously shouted at Yun Wushang: “Junior Sister Yun, give us a gust of wind!”
Yun Wushang: ?
After dodging Bai Muqing’s first sword, Yun Wushang had kept her distance from the two, looking uninterested in participating.
Mo Xun felt wronged: Why are you glaring at me? Aren’t we teammates now? Look at Chu Jiuqu, she actively covered for me—what a great teammate!
Just as she thought this, her eyes caught an abnormal fluctuation in the water mist behind Yun Wushang. Mo Xun quickly rushed toward her, shouting as she ran: “Be careful! Master is behind you!”
Hearing this, a trace of suspicion flashed across Yun Wushang’s face, but she turned around immediately. Facing the fluctuating water mist, she tapped her toes on the ground, soaring into the air.
Almost simultaneously, a sword light swept across her original location.
The mist was partially dispersed. Bai Muqing’s figure emerged from the mist, holding another sword, leaping towards Yun Wushang. The tip of the sword pointed directly at her chest!
Facing such a fierce strike, Yun Wushang didn’t show any expression, nor did she even blink. She raised both hands and quickly formed seals, condensing an ice shield in front of her.
The next moment, Bai Muqing swung her sword and shattered the shield. The powerful sword energy collided with Yun Wushang’s body, knocking her down from the air.
Seeing Yun Wushang falling, Mo Xun threw the sword in her hand without thinking, raised both hands, and quickly adjusted her stance.
Three steps forward, two steps left, too far, one step right, I got her!
She used her arms to catch Yun Wushang completely. After catching her, she immediately spun and retreated, while shouting for help: “Senior Sister, save me!”
“I’m coming!” Chu Jiuqu forcefully struck the sword in front of her, rushed a few steps to stand in front of Mo Xun, and blocked Bai Muqing’s pursuit.
Mo Xun immediately put Yun Wushang down, raised her hands to form seals, circulated the spiritual energy throughout her body, and used the energy to heal her.
Yun Wushang looked as if she wanted to speak but stopped, eventually saying nothing and allowing the treatment.
In reality, her Master had struck with restraint. The sword energy only looked powerful and did not cause her any harm.
However, to hide her identity, she had planned to be knocked down by the sword energy. If Mo Xun hadn’t caught her, she would have definitely been injured from the fall.
“Junior Sister Yun, can you use a gust of wind to disperse Master’s mist?” Mo Xun asked Yun Wushang while treating her. This time, there was a little cautious probing in her tone.
Yun Wushang glared at her, then spoke: “What are you talking about? I have a mutated Ice Spiritual Root, not a mutated Wind Spiritual Root.”
This meant refusal, but immediately afterward, she faced the white mist and raised her hand: “So, this is what should be done.”
As her voice fell, cold air surged. Countless ice shards rapidly grew in the white mist and spread outwards, covering the entire white mist in just two breaths!
“Shatter,” Yun Wushang said lightly, clenching the raised hand into a fist. All the ice shards shattered instantly, scattering on the ground.
With the shattering of the ice shards, the mist disappeared, the visibility was clear, and Bai Muqing’s figure clearly appeared in the eyes of the three.
She held one long sword, and two others were floating around her with her spiritual energy, clearly not exerting her full strength.
Chu Jiuqu rushed towards her with her sword: “Master, take this!”
Mo Xun wanted to follow, but… “Where is my sword?”
Yun Wushang’s gaze fell on a certain spot on the ground, and she remained silent.
Mo Xun couldn’t remember when she had thrown her sword away. She had just broken through to the Golden Core stage and couldn’t yet use sword flight, so she could only run quickly to retrieve it.
Perhaps because her performance greatly displeased Bai Muqing, the Master, who had been suppressing her strength, suddenly got serious. Her figure flashed, disappearing from in front of Chu Jiuqu and appearing behind Mo Xun.
Mo Xun was about to bend down to pick up her sword when a sudden chill ran down her back. She instinctively turned to the side to dodge, watching helplessly as the sharp blade sliced down beside her.
She stared blankly into Bai Muqing’s eyes. The latter looked at her coldly for a moment, then expressionlessly retracted her sword: “That’s enough.”
Hearing this, Chu Jiuqu immediately stopped her attack and bowed with her sword: “Yes, Master.”
Mo Xun hurriedly followed suit and bowed: “Yes, Master.”
Yun Wushang also bowed with her hand but said nothing.
Bai Muqing flicked her sleeve and turned her back, seemingly suppressing her anger: “Chu Jiuqu, your sword technique is decent, but if you don’t combine it with spells, dreaming of achieving a rank in the Grand Immortal Sect Competition is foolish. Before the competition, go and practice the Water Moon Sword Art fifty more times.”
Chu Jiuqu: “Yes, Master.”
Bai Muqing: “Yun Wushang, your spells are good, but you rely on them too much. Your defense is weak, collapsing with one strike. Here is the Imperial Sword Art manual for you.”
She said, taking a manual from her sleeve and tossing it backward.
Yun Wushang reached out and caught it: “Yes.”
Bai Muqing: “Mo Xun, you… I don’t know what you are doing. For the Grand Immortal Sect Competition, you’re on your own.”
After saying this, Bai Muqing flew off on her sword, quickly disappearing, looking as if she would explode if she stayed for another second.
Mo Xun looked at the direction she flew off, sighing quietly.
She didn’t know why. Although her Water Moon Sword Art was somewhat decent, in actual combat, her mind was blank. She didn’t even know which direction to swing her sword, let alone where the sword was.
However…
System: “Completed task: Hug Yun Wushang sideways. Completed task: Heal Yun Wushang. Gained 2 reward points. All have been redeemed for Reward 2, increasing the probability of the host dodging attacks by instinct to 65%!”
There are still over ten days until the Grand Immortal Sect Competition. 1 reward point per day is enough for her to stack Evasion to 100%.
So what if she doesn’t get a rank? She never intended to defeat anyone in the competition anyway. She just wanted to survive Yun Wushang.
Even if she can’t charm Yun Wushang and return to reality, she should survive first.
Mo Xun bent down to pick up her companion sword from the ground. The sword was covered in mud. She was also covered in mud, with even a blade of grass stuck in her hair, looking utterly defeated.
Chu Jiuqu walked up to her to comfort her: “Junior Sister Mo, don’t take Master’s words to heart. Although your sword technique is messy, your footwork is full of flaws, and you even threw your sword, you caught Junior Sister Yun and can use spiritual healing. Your performance was still… still not bad.”
Mo Xun: …That’s great comfort. Next time, don’t bother.
“I’m fine.” Mo Xun shook the mud off her companion sword, sheathed it, and then looked up at Chu Jiuqu with a smile: “Senior Sister doesn’t need to comfort me. I know how I performed. It’s not Master’s fault for being angry. I’m angry with myself. There’s less than half a month until the competition begins. Please don’t be distracted by me and focus on improving your own strength.”
“Alright, then, goodbye.” Chu Jiuqu said, turning around and leaving decisively, looking like “I know I’m not good at comforting people, so I’ll go first.”
Mo Xun stood in place for a while, then prepared to leave too.
However, just as she was about to turn, an alarm bell suddenly rang in her heart! This feeling is…
Mo Xun hurriedly dodged to the side, but it was still too late.
An ice shard pierced her earlobe, leaving a bloody hole.
Mo Xun: “Are you sick?!”
Mo Xun cursed inwardly, but only frowned outwardly.
Yun Wushang hadn’t left. Not only did she not leave, but she had also ambushed her from behind.
She didn’t know where this woman was aiming initially. If it was the back of her head, that would have been outright murder!
“What is the meaning of this?” Mo Xun asked coldly. “I caught you. Is this how you repay me?”
“You’re not dead, are you?” Yun Wushang expressionlessly raised her hand, sweeping the hair from the side of her neck back. Her every movement felt lazy and casual, completely unconcerned about the shameless sneak attack she had just committed.
“How did you dodge that?” she asked Mo Xun.
“What if I hadn’t dodged?” Mo Xun didn’t answer her question but countered with one of her own.
Yun Wushang: “I struck with restraint. Even if I had aimed at your head instead of your earlobe, you still wouldn’t die.”
“Do you even have a point?” Mo Xun didn’t want to be angry at Yun Wushang, after all, she still relied on completing tasks related to Yun Wushang to stack Evasion. But continuous concession would only lead to further escalation. Given Yun Wushang’s attitude, she wouldn’t be called Mo if she healed her again!
Perhaps intimidated by Mo Xun’s angry gaze, or perhaps remembering that she still needed Mo Xun’s healing, Yun Wushang fell silent for a moment, then suddenly threw the manual in her hand towards Mo Xun.
Mo Xun instinctively caught it, and the anger on her face turned to confusion.
Before she could ask, Yun Wushang took the initiative to explain: “I don’t want to learn the Imperial Sword Art. It’s yours.”
Still with that attitude… that attitude is really irritating!
Mo Xun threw the manual onto the ground and responded coldly: “I don’t need it. All I want is your apology.”
Yun Wushang met her gaze for a moment, then lowered her eyes, her lips pressed into a thin line.
After a while, she spoke, her voice as faint as a mosquito: “Apologies, and also… thank you.”
With that, she didn’t give Mo Xun a chance to respond. She left the Imperial Sword Art manual and turned to leave.
