Wei Yixian abruptly stood up and headed toward the staircase.
Shang Shiqian, puzzled, leaned over the back of the sofa and called out, “Wei Yixian, aren’t you watching anymore?”
“No.” Wei Yixian’s expression was cold, her tone stiff.
“What about the Go lesson?”
“It can wait till tomorrow evening.”
With that, Wei Yixian disappeared up the stairs.
Shang Shiqian muttered to herself, What’s gotten into her all of a sudden?
Wei Yixian’s unpredictable moods were truly baffling.
Shang Shiqian sat back down to continue watching the livestream, but for some reason, she couldn’t focus at all.
She gave herself an excuse this competition had nothing to do with her anymore, and most of the faces on screen were unfamiliar. There was none of the excitement of seeing old friends or rivals.
Anyway, the official matches wouldn’t start until tomorrow, and the opening ceremony’s cultural performances weren’t particularly interesting. She wouldn’t be missing much by skipping it.
She turned off the projector and returned to the first floor.
Walking to the bar, she wasn’t surprised to find Wei Yixian pouring herself a drink.
Seemingly caught off guard by Shang Shiqian’s sudden appearance, Wei Yixian paused mid-pour and asked, “Something you need?”
“I’m thirsty.”
It was obviously an excuse there was water downstairs, after all.
Wei Yixian averted her gaze.
Shang Shiqian went to pour herself a glass of cold water, then suddenly remembered Wei Yixian mentioning that the water she drank daily cost over four thousand yuan per liter. Curious, she began searching for the water storage to see what kind of water could possibly be worth that much.
Wei Yixian took a sip of her drink and was about to head upstairs when she noticed the supposedly thirsty woman crouching in the semi-open kitchen, opening cabinet doors one after another, peering inside, then backing out.
She asked, “What, do you need to have a friendly chat with the cabinets before drinking water? Besides, the water doesn’t come from the cabinets.”
The teasing remark struck Shang Shiqian as hilarious, and she burst out laughing. “Hahaha!Wei Yixian, you’re so funny! I never knew you had such a sense of humor!”
Wei Yixian: “…”
It was just as the system’s evaluation of her had saidall she does all day is grin like an idiot with those big white teeth!
Shang Shiqian explained, “I just wanted to see what four-thousand-yuan water looks like. Is it full of high-tech additives?”
A vein twitched on Wei Yixian’s forehead. “You don’t pick up anything useful, but you’ve sure mastered all the internet slang.”
“I’ve heard Chen Yixun say it so much, it just stuck.”
Wei Yixian pressed her lips together.
Chen Yixun again.
Coolly, she said, “The bottled ones are in the fridge.”
Just as she started up the stairs, she turned back and added, “There’s an alarm system in the house. If triggered, not only will the villa’s security respond, but Tianhao Garden’s security will also be alerted. Perfect while satisfying your curiosity, you can also help me test whether the system is malfunctioning.”
“Actually, I’m not that curious anymore.” Shang Shiqian immediately retreated from the kitchen.
Close call. That would’ve been so embarrassing.
Wei Yixian let out a faint chuckle, and the dark cloud over her mood suddenly lifted a little.
…
On Monday morning, the lawnmower woke Shang Shiqian right on schedule.
Though the Weijia League officially began that day, Shang Shiqian decided to go to the Go Room at East City University instead.
The Go Room had a TV for livestreams, and she could discuss the matches with others far more engaging than watching alone in front of the projector.
Chen Yixun had once pointed out that watching the World Cup alone at home was nothing like watching it in a bar. The atmosphere just wasn’t the same.
Not only that, but after learning about the renovation of the chess and card parlor on Wenming Street, Li Zhishen, the head of the Go club’s chess division at East City University, approached Chen Yixun and asked her to help persuade Shang Shiqian to continue playing Go at the university.
From Li Zhishen’s words, Shang Shiqian realized that the other party had long known she wasn’t a student at East City University. Yet, to keep her playing, they were still willing to cover for her.
Thus, Shang Shiqian also let go of her concerns.
When Wei Yixian heard Shang Shiqian asking Pu Feifei for advice on her outfit for the day, she knew Shang Shiqian planned to go out.
So, she didn’t bother asking about her schedule and only waited for her deliberately when leaving.
Shang Shiqian dutifully put on a hat and mask.
Today, she wore a baseball cap and a high-waisted denim jumpsuit.
This outfit was a completely different style from the clothes prepared in the guest room wardrobe. Moreover, this kind of attire was very particular about the wearer clearly, Pu Feifei had bought it specifically to Shang Shiqian’s measurements when stocking the wardrobe.
Wei Yixian only glanced briefly before looking away.
Once in the car, Wei Yixian handed Shang Shiqian a card.
“What’s this?”
Shang Shiqian initially thought Wei Yixian was following the cliché from domineering CEO novels by giving her an unlimited black card.
Only when she held it did she realize it was something she needed even more urgently than a black card, a temporary East City University campus card.
Wei Yixian said, “With this card, you can freely enter and exit East City University from now on.”
Then, with a pointed tone: “…No need to rely on someone else’s identity.”
Shang Shiqian was both surprised and delighted: “How did you manage this?” Automatically filtering out the latter part of her remark.
Wei Yixian’s lips curled slightly: “The power of money.”
Shang Shiqian caught the pun and asked, “Did you spend a lot?”
Wei Yixian shrugged it off: “No money spent. Just donated a batch of outdated lab equipment.”
Relieved, Shang Shiqian beamed: “Thank you, Wei Yixian!”
Feeling this still wasn’t enough to express her sincere gratitude, she added, “From now on, I won’t charge you for Go lessons.”
Though she didn’t know the value of those old devices, if she taught Wei Yixian for an hour every day, she could save her 100,000 yuan in twenty days.
Wei Yixian smirked: “Unnecessary. If you feel like you have too much money, you can top up the card, it works in the cafeteria and convenience stores.”
After getting out of the car, Shang Shiqian seemed to remember something and turned back to say to Wei Yixian, “Drive safely.”
Wei Yixian gave her a sidelong glance, her demeanor haughty: “Just a temporary campus card, no need to be so obsequious.”
Shang Shiqian muttered, “I’m just being polite and civilized, not obsequious.”
After she closed the car door and walked away, the driver, Old Liu, remarked, “Boss Wei, if you keep this up, Miss Shang won’t send you well-wishes next time.”
Haven’t you learned from the last lesson about not giving out your phone number?
Wei Yixian: …
She said, “Since you understand her so well, why don’t you go be her driver from now on?”
Old Liu: …
Boss Wei, can’t you take a joke?!
After meeting up with Chen Yixun, Chen Yixun watched the departing car and asked, “Did you come here alone today?”
Shang Shiqian shook her head: “Wei Yixian drove me here.”
“That car’s only worth about a million, right? I didn’t think she’d ride in something so cheap.”
Of course, “cheap” was relative to Wei Yixian’s 30-million-yuan luxury car.
For most people, especially someone like Chen Yixun from a modest background, a 300,000-yuan car was considered a luxury vehicle.
Shang Shiqian smiled. “People with many cars often switch between them. Don’t worry about it.”
All Chen Yixun felt was envy.
As usual, she was about to hand her campus card to Shang Shiqian and use her student ID to go through the manual entry lane.
But suddenly, Shang Shiqian flashed a card and said, “Yixun, I have some good news, I have my own card now.”
Chen Yixun paused mid-motion, surprised. “But you don’t have an ID card. How did you get this?”
The moment she asked, she realized it was a foolish question.
If Wei Yixian could drive his car straight into East City University and even borrow the professional Go Classroom, naturally, he could help Shang Shiqian get a temporary card.
