- Chapter 9 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (6)
Jiang Mengyu, that mad dog!
The other guests for private room 305 gradually arrived, but Jiang Mengyu didn’t go to greet them, letting her colleagues lead them in instead.
The last to enter was a young girl who seemed to recognize Jiang Mengyu. The moment she spotted Jiang Mengyu sitting on the sofa, a flicker of surprise flashed in her eyes.
Jiang Mengyu looked up and met her gaze. Though she didn’t know the girl, she could guess her identity from the resemblance in her brows and eyes to Chi Jingyan.
She must be Chi Jia, the cousin in the original story who always loved opposing Chi Jingyan.
Chi Jia studied Jiang Mengyu with a meaningful look but didn’t speak to her. After a few more glances, she followed the others and left.
Jiang Mengyu pondered silently. She guessed Chi Jia probably didn’t know about the recent events most likely, Chi Jingyan had kept them hidden.
Meanwhile, inside the private room, Chi Jia was already talking about Jiang Mengyu with Chi Jingyan.
Chu Muyao hadn’t invited Chi Jia. Knowing Chi Jingyan disliked her, she wouldn’t deliberately invite trouble. Chi Jia had come uninvited.
But since she was already here, Chu Muyao couldn’t just kick her out. She observed Chi Jingyan’s reaction and, seeing her expression remain indifferent, as if unbothered finally gestured for Chi Jia to take a seat.
Chi Jia made no effort to be polite. The moment she sat down, she said to Chu Muyao, “Happy birthday, Muyao-jie. I hope you don’t mind me crashing the party?”
Though she addressed Chu Muyao, her gaze subtly drifted toward Chi Jingyan.
Everyone present knew Chi Jia and Chi Jingyan had never gotten along. At her words, they instinctively glanced at Chi Jingyan.
Under the group’s overt and covert stares, Chi Jingyan didn’t even lift her head, still focused on her phone screen as if oblivious to Chi Jia’s provocation.
The atmosphere turned awkward for a moment, but someone quickly picked up the conversation, and the room grew lively again.
Chi Jia narrowed her eyes, watching Chi Jingyan ignore her. Suddenly, she chuckled and raised her voice. “Oh, by the way, Muyao-jie, I think I saw an acquaintance outside earlier.”
“That Alpha who used to pester you all the time, right? What was her name again. Jiang Mengyu? Did I get it right?”
As Chi Jia’s words fell, the room plunged into silence once more.
Chu Muyao’s face flushed red. Chi Jia really knew how to stir the pot deliberately bringing up Jiang Mengyu despite knowing her complicated history with both her and Chi Jingyan.
Not wanting to become a pawn in the sisters’ rivalry, Chu Muyao gave a vague acknowledgment and swiftly changed the subject.
Chi Jia didn’t press further. She leisurely studied Chi Jingyan, replaying her reaction in her mind.
The moment Jiang Mengyu’s name was mentioned, hadn’t Chi Jingyan shot her an irritated glance?
Chi Jia wasn’t sure, but it didn’t stop her interest in Jiang Mengyu. Anyone who could upset Chi Jingyan was a friend in her book.
Logically, since Chi Jia and Chi Jingyan were both from the Chi family, even if they didn’t get along privately, they should at least maintain a facade of sisterly affection in public. So why were these two always at each other’s throats?
The guests’ expressions varied, but they all understood the underlying reason.
The grudge between these two traced back to the previous generation’s affairs.
Chi Jia’s grandmother was the other woman who successfully took the place of the first wife. It was said that Chi Jingyan’s grandmother was already ill at the time and ultimately passed away from the emotional distress, which is why Chi Jingyan’s father and Chi Jia’s father had always been at odds, even to the point of open hostility, fighting tooth and nail.
Over the years, although their relationship seemed to gradually ease, it was merely a facade put on in front of Old Master Chi.
With the older generation harboring such deep-seated animosity, it was only natural that the younger generation didn’t get along either.
However, in Chi Jingyan’s eyes, she couldn’t be bothered to engage in petty squabbles with Chi Jia. If not for Chi Jia constantly stirring up trouble, she would simply pretend the woman didn’t exist.
As for Chi Jia’s schemes, Chi Jingyan could guess them with barely any thought, she was undoubtedly planning to use Jiang Mengyu as leverage.
The thought of Jiang Mengyu made Chi Jingyan’s mood grow irritable.
If it were the old Jiang Mengyu, Chi Jingyan wouldn’t have spared her a second glance. But the current Jiang Mengyu was different.
Her rank was unexpectedly high, and her pheromones were uniquely potent. If she could make Jiang Mengyu obey her and work for her…
Chi Jingyan frowned and irritably put away her phone.
Just then, Chu Muyao handed her a glass of wine. Without much thought, she took it and downed it in a few gulps.
Since Chi Jingyan had been ignoring her earlier, Chi Jia didn’t want to make a fool of herself in front of others. She sat quietly in the corner, occasionally casting an inscrutable glance at Chi Jingyan.
The private room gradually grew livelier someone was singing, and Chu Muyao urged Chi Jingyan to join a game. After a couple of rounds, Chi Jingyan set the dice cup aside.
“Muyao,” she said, leaning closer with a frown, “I’m feeling a bit dizzy. I’m going out for some air.”
Chu Muyao’s cheeks were flushed with excitement. As an Omega, she was usually carefully sheltered and rarely exposed to such lively settings, so she was already a little too exhilarated.
“Go ahead,” she replied absentmindedly.
She wasn’t worried, Chi Jingyan was an Alpha with a high rank, after all. Few could mess with her, and besides, no one here would dare to provoke her.
The room was stuffy, so Chi Jingyan had already taken off her jacket earlier, leaving her in just a thin camisole.
She grabbed her jacket from the armrest and headed for the door, stepping out into the hallway.
Inside the room, Chi Jia, who had been chatting with someone else, noticed her movement. She turned just in time to see Chi Jingyan disappear through the doorway.
A smirk curled at Chi Jia’s lips, prompting the person beside her to ask, “Chi Jia, what’s so funny?”
Chi Jia leaned back lazily against the sofa. “Nothing. Just thought of something amusing.”
Good luck, dear cousin.
Once outside, the noise faded, but the dizziness didn’t subside.
Chi Jingyan fanned herself, her brows knitted tightly. Had the air conditioning been set too high? She felt unbearably hot, as if a wave of stifling warmth was rising from her core, unrelieved even by the cool breeze.
She wanted to splash cold water on her face in the restroom, but as she turned the corner, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist!
“Who’s there?!”
Chi Jingyan was startled and immediately tried to break free, but the newcomer’s grip was even stronger, their hand tightly clasping her wrist, leaving her no room to escape.
The shock sobered Chi Jingyan up a bit. Instinctively, she reached for her pocket, but before she could act, she was abruptly pulled to the other side of the corridor.
Nervousness and anger made Chi Jingyan breathe rapidly. She widened her eyes, and only when she finally saw the person’s face did she suddenly stop struggling.
Who else could it be but Jiang Mengyu?
“You only know how to ambush people,” Chi Jingyan said, her expression grim.
Though still shaken, her words were sharp as ever.
“Old tricks work if they’re effective,” Jiang Mengyu replied, pressing her hand against Chi Jingyan’s shoulder, forcing her halfway against the wall.
Chi Jingyan had long witnessed Jiang Mengyu’s audacity and boldness. After the initial panic, she wasn’t surprised, it almost felt expected.
Leaning her back against the wall, she looked at Jiang Mengyu with a mocking gaze. “What do you want now?”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t answer, only furrowing her brows as she stared intently at her.
Chi Jingyan probably didn’t realize just how flushed her cheeks were. Her usually expressionless face was tinged with a rosy hue, the corners of her eyes shimmering like twilight. Though her eyes burned with anger, they were also glistening, softening her typically cold and aloof features with an unexpected allure.
Jiang Mengyu watched her in silence for a long moment before finally asking in a low voice, “Was the water good?”
Chi Jingyan scoffed, deliberately provoking her. “Mu Yao gave it to me. Of course it was good.”
The corridor was dimly lit, half of Jiang Mengyu’s face obscured in shadow. Her expression was unreadable, her eyes deep and dark.
Somehow, the sight inexplicably made Chi Jingyan tense up.
What was this mad dog planning to do?
