Chi Jingyan Finally Recognizes Her Own Feelings
Chi Jingyan had her suspicions before.
Jiang Mengyu always claimed to love her deeply, but what was the real origin of those feelings?
After all, their interactions had been few and far between, and most of the time, they were at odds with each other.
Now that she finally knew the truth, Chi Jingyan wished she had remained ignorant.
At least then, she could have continued to boss Jiang Mengyu around without a second thought, instead of standing here, frozen stiff, unsure how to react.
Chi Jingyan felt utterly ridiculous.
She had actually thought she could manipulate Jiang Mengyu using her love. All her recent back-and-forth antics had been built on the foundation of Jiang Mengyu’s affection.
As long as Jiang Mengyu still loved her, she wouldn’t easily walk away.
But what if Jiang Mengyu found out that the person who saved her wasn’t Chi Jingyan at all? Would she still love her then?
Chi Jingyan’s mind was a tangled mess. Just a few hours ago, she had firmly told Jiang Mengyu that she couldn’t give her what she wanted.
Little did she know those words would come back to haunt her.
What Jiang Mengyu wanted was the love of her savior not the favor of an unrelated Alpha who had once driven her to drop out of school.
Noticing Chi Jingyan’s troubled expression, Jiang Mengyu lowered her head slightly, leaning in to study her face closely. “Ayan?”
Her sudden proximity startled Chi Jingyan, who tensed up instantly. “It’s nothing.”
She turned her head away, avoiding Jiang Mengyu’s gaze. “I was just thinking about something.”
Under normal circumstances, Chi Jingyan would never have bothered explaining herself so thoroughly to Jiang Mengyu.
This alone proved how unsettled she was so much so that she instinctively tried to mask her unease with lies.
Jiang Mengyu’s lips curled slightly as she responded considerately, “It’s alright if you can’t remember.”
“I know this matter isn’t important to you, so there’s no need to dwell on it.”
The more Jiang Mengyu spoke like this, the heavier Chi Jingyan’s heart grew.
She knew exactly how obsessive Jiang Mengyu had been about her before. Given Jiang Mengyu’s personality, how could she possibly not care about this?
Her claim that it wasn’t important was likely just her way of giving Chi Jingyan an out, seeing that she genuinely didn’t remember.
If Jiang Mengyu truly didn’t care, she wouldn’t have emphasized it so many times.
Chi Jingyan’s thoughts were in chaos. As the proud and direct young mistress of the Chi family, she had never been one to claim undeserved credit even if she didn’t consider herself a particularly good person.
But now, staring into Jiang Mengyu’s tender gaze, Chi Jingyan found herself speechless.
If she told Jiang Mengyu the truth, would she be disappointed?
All of Jiang Mengyu’s loyalty and love were rooted in that act of salvation. If she learned that the warmth she cherished had never come from Chi Jingyan, would she still obey her and stay by her side?
Chi Jingyan pressed her lips together tightly, ultimately saying nothing.
“I understand what you mean, Ayan.”
Tonight, Jiang Mengyu displayed an unusual tolerance and understanding. Just this morning, she had been downcast because Chi Jingyan was getting too close to Chu Muyao, yet now she wore an expression that clearly said, “I understand everything.”
Those pitch-black eyes reflected Chi Jingyan’s figure with startling clarity. Jiang Mengyu raised her hand, gently brushing away the mischievous strand of hair that had fallen across Chi Jingyan’s cheek. “Ayan, Chi Jia is right. I can’t selfishly demand that you return my feelings.”
“Old Master Chi would never allow us to be together.”
A trace of desolation crept into her eyes, and her voice carried a weight heavier than usual. Chi Jingyan could tell her words were insincere.
Yet Jiang Mengyu still murmured softly, “You and Chu Muyao are the perfect match.”
“From now on, let’s do as you said. I won’t foolishly hope for your affection anymore. You have your responsibilities, and I should live my own life well.”
Hearing this, the emotions Chi Jingyan had been suppressing finally broke free. Her eyes reddened as she stared at Jiang Mengyu. “What do you mean, ‘live your own life’?”
“Are you saying you won’t like me anymore? Is that it?”
“Then who will you be with? Chi Jia? Or Chen He’an? Or some other sweet, obedient Omega?”
Chi Jingyan probably didn’t realize how bitter her tone sounded. A faint glimmer of moisture welled up in her beautiful eyes, paired with the flush around her lids, lending her an uncharacteristically pitiful air.
Tonight’s “truth” had come so abruptly, leaving Chi Jingyan no time to prepare just like Jiang Mengyu’s feelings, pressing in step by step, so overwhelming that Chi Jingyan couldn’t even begin to resist.
When had Chi Jingyan ever experienced something like this?
Her heart had already wavered, though she hadn’t yet made a decision. Just as she was about to distance herself from Jiang Mengyu, Jiang Mengyu had dropped another bombshell.
Now, Chi Jingyan couldn’t even think about keeping her distance. All she knew was that she absolutely couldn’t let Jiang Mengyu go!
In that moment, Chi Jingyan suddenly felt grateful she hadn’t been upright enough to explain everything clearly earlier.
Right now, Jiang Mengyu still saw her as a savior, yet she was already preparing to withdraw her feelings. If she ever learned the truth, she might leave without hesitation.
Chi Jingyan didn’t have time to ponder why she cared so much about Jiang Mengyu’s feelings for her. Instinctively, she reacted in the way that best served her own interests.
The scent of pear and lychee wine drifted faintly through the air, and Jiang Mengyu’s expression shifted. Her brows furrowed slightly. “Ayan.”
Chi Jingyan stubbornly held her gaze. “Answer me.”
Jiang Mengyu sighed silently. “I won’t be with any of them.”
Chi Jia was one thing, at least she had expressed interest before.
But Chen He’an was just an ordinary classmate. They had barely even spoken. Why would Chi Jingyan think she’d end up with her?
Jiang Mengyu closed her eyes briefly, forcibly suppressing her pheromones to keep them from spiraling out of control under Chi Jingyan’s scent. Her expression was strained with restraint, and she averted her gaze, refusing to look at Chi Jingyan.
Chi Jingyan clenched her fists, stepping forward instead of retreating. She grabbed Jiang Mengyu’s collar. “Last night, didn’t you sneak into my room and seduce me with your pheromones?”
“What are you pretending to be now?”
She disliked Jiang Mengyu’s indifferent demeanor it was as if, in her eyes, she was no different from a tree or a stone by the roadside.
It wasn’t until now that Chi Jingyan realized she actually liked it. She wanted to see Jiang Mengyu lose control for her.
The thought of trampling an Alpha of a higher rank beneath her feet, watching her become infatuated, desperately craving her favor, filled Chi Jingyan with an inexplicable sense of satisfaction.
This was probably the inherent flaw of an Alpha at work.
After all, Chi Jingyan was a rare SS-rank Alpha, a rarity even in the entire world. Having grown up never being suppressed by anyone, she had unexpectedly suffered several defeats at Jiang Mengyu’s hands. How could that not ignite her desire for conquest?
Red streaks also spread across Jiang Mengyu’s eyes as she stared fixedly at Chi Jingyan, her voice slightly hoarse. “Ayan, must you push me like this?”
“Me, push you?”
Chi Jingyan’s chest tightened painfully. She wanted to ask, who was pushing whom?
Why did Jiang Mengyu always have to be like this?
Why couldn’t she just be obedient?
If only none of this had happened. Perhaps from the moment she agreed to meet Jiang Mengyu that night, everything had veered in the wrong direction.
Just as Chi Jingyan was about to say more, the scene before her flipped in an instant. The light from above suddenly illuminated her eyes, but it was quickly blocked by the figure looming over her.
Jiang Mengyu seized Chi Jingyan’s wrist and pinned it above her head, pressing her against the wall. She glared down at the woman before her. “You didn’t push me?”
“I told you, you can’t make me love you and then kick me away.”
“I’m not that noble, nor that patient.”
Chi Jingyan was forced to keep her right hand raised. She couldn’t understand how Jiang Mengyu’s grip was so strong those slender fingers clamped around her wrist, leaving her no room to struggle.
After just a couple of futile attempts, Chi Jingyan gave up resisting. The scent of pear lychee wine still clung to her, growing even more intoxicating as their positions shifted.
“Then what am I supposed to do?” Chi Jingyan bit her lip.
Jiang Mengyu’s gaze involuntarily dropped to Chi Jingyan’s lips. Backlit, her eyes darkened, the searing desire swirling within them sending a shiver down Chi Jingyan’s spine.
“So I compromised, didn’t I?”
Her compromise was to stop loving her?
Chi Jingyan wouldn’t allow it.
Jiang Mengyu took a deep breath. “Then what do you want to do?”
She lowered her head, her nose now just inches from Chi Jingyan’s nape. The scorching breath against her neck made Chi Jingyan instinctively recall the sensation of Jiang Mengyu’s teeth sinking into her skin.
Her body trembled.
“I…”
She didn’t know.
Jiang Mengyu inhaled Chi Jingyan’s scent, unable to suppress her own pheromones any longer. The fragrance of jasmine had barely emerged before the waiting sweetness of the wine eagerly entwined with it.
Chi Jingyan’s words might have been sharp, but her pheromones laid her heart bare.
That’s not right either. Jiang Mengyu lowered her long lashes slightly and glanced sideways at the thin lips of the person beside her, so close they were almost touching. She thought to herself, Chi Jingyan’s mouth isn’t that hard at least it’s soft when kissed.
Jiang Mengyu whispered, “Ayan, do you really want to date Chu Muyao while keeping things ambiguous with me?”
“Just like this…”
Her lips brushed lightly against Chi Jingyan’s earlobe, sending a scalding heat through her body that made her tremble violently. The tip of her ear turned a deep crimson in an instant, as if about to bleed.
Chi Jingyan’s lips parted slightly, her voice trembling with ragged breaths, “I don’t know…”
Truthfully, that was exactly what she was thinking.
But instinct told Chi Jingyan it was best not to admit it right now.
Besides, she was too ashamed to admit it.
Chi Jingyan’s grandmother had passed away from depression due to relationship issues. Growing up in such an environment, her father had always despised those who were unfaithful in love. So from a very young age, he had taught Chi Jingyan to always remain loyal to her partner.
Chi Jingyan’s parents had a very loving relationship.
Having been immersed in that since childhood, Chi Jingyan had once vowed to be devoted to her Omega. But now, she found herself entertaining thoughts that her past self would have scorned. Her face burned with shame.
“You got upset just because I exchanged a few words with Chen He’an.”
Jiang Mengyu’s breath hitched softly against Chi Jingyan’s ear, her voice pressing close, making Chi Jingyan’s ears flush even deeper.
“But you, Ayan you want me to watch you be affectionate with another woman and still accept it without complaint when you touch me with the same hands that have touched her.”
Jiang Mengyu let out a faint scoff. “You might even mark Chu Muyao, and her scent would linger on you…”
Jiang Mengyu had hit the nail on the head. Just a few hours earlier, Chi Jingyan had been thinking of asking Chu Muyao for help during her next rut.
Chi Jingyan bit her lip tightly and stayed silent.
“And then what, Ayan? After marking her, will you come to be marked by me?”
Jiang Mengyu tilted her head, staring unblinkingly at Chi Jingyan’s profile. “By then, your scent would be a chaotic, patchwork mess. Tell me, if Chu Muyao caught a whiff of it, wouldn’t she grow suspicious?”
Chi Jingyan’s breathing grew increasingly erratic. “Stop…”
“But this is what will happen in the future,” Jiang Mengyu murmured.
She reached behind her back with her free hand, retrieving the pistol Chi Jingyan had given her, and pressed it into Chi Jingyan’s palm.
“You might as well kill me now.”
Forcing Chi Jingyan’s hand, Jiang Mengyu aimed the barrel at her own heart.
The corners of her lips curled slightly, her eyes devoid of fear but brimming with reckless thrill and anticipation. “Maybe dying by your hand is the perfect ending for me.”
“After all, this life of mine is practically yours to begin with.”
Those last words abruptly sharpened Chi Jingyan’s awareness.
With a violent jerk, she flung the gun away. The metallic clang as it hit the floor was jarring. The once meticulously cared-for firearm now lay discarded, ignored by both its former and current owner, neither of whom had the mind to spare it a glance.
Jiang Mengyu allowed Chi Jingyan to shake off her hand, even letting out a light chuckle. “Why aren’t you fighting back?”
