The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 50.1
Unable to control his body, Yu Ruan grew increasingly pliant, trembling lightly as he was dominated by the pheromones coursing through his limbs. His breathing grew slightly uneven, a soft, weak moan escaping his nostrils as he instinctively struggled.
The sweet fragrance in the air grew more intense. The scents of their respective pheromones merged into one, flowing quietly through the hidden passage.
The Alpha’s hand behind him pressed firmly against his waist, sharp fangs sinking deeper. Warmth spread from the injection site throughout his body, as if something was mysteriously blending into his bloodstream, making the scent he inhaled increasingly irresistible.
The sensation that left his entire body weak and tingling lasted for several minutes before the fangs slowly withdrew from his gland. The other gently licked the wound on his skin, the pressure easing as he released his hold on Yu Ruan’s body.
Warm breaths brushed against his neck. For some reason, the scent emanating from the Alpha inexplicably gave him a comforting illusion.
Yu Ruan struggled to take a breath, curling up weakly as he was embraced and pulled into the other’s arms.
The situation had abruptly reversed.
The one who had initially needed support now became the one in control between them, while the one who had come to help was left weak and limp, barely leaning against the person behind him for support.
The other held him quietly, neither speaking nor making any further movements. Soft strands of hair brushed against Yu Ruan’s neck, causing a slight itch. He blinked in confusion, instinctively calling out the name of the person beside him, “Gu Yu!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Yu Ruan realized his voice was slightly hoarse. The faintly sweet tone at the end betrayed the earlier turmoil, making his face flush instantly. He couldn’t help but raise his voice, “Gu Yu!”
Gu Yu seemed not to hear, his eyelashes lowered quietly as if lost in thought. The hand gripping Yu Ruan’s fingers tightened slightly. The Alpha’s breathing was heavy, his feverish cheek lightly pressed against Yu Ruan’s neck as his lips moved faintly.
The familiar scent from the Omega in his arms gradually calmed his boiling blood. Inhaling the sweet fragrance tinged with the aroma of lime, his restless nerves were strangely soothed.
He was his.
Uniquely his, and no one could take him away his Omega.
Still, he remained motionless.
Yu Ruan, embarrassed by the Alpha’s embrace behind him, felt the strength he had lost during the marking gradually return. He didn’t know if it was due to the Alpha’s rut that had caused him to act this way. But he was well aware that if they continued like this, losing the competition would only be a matter of time.
Perhaps because they now shared each other’s pheromones, the barriers between them had completely dissolved. Yet, as the effects of his heat subsided, Yu Ruan was surprised to find that he still felt his face flush and his heart race because of Gu Yu’s actions.
This realization stunned him momentarily.
He had never experienced anything like this before, and no one had ever told him whether such a reaction was normal or not. Too embarrassed to confide his feelings to a stranger, he could only speculate wildly that it might be due to the presence of the other’s pheromones in his body, causing him to react physiologically to Gu Yu.
In essence, it was all instinct.
With this thought, Yu Ruan finally felt a little more at ease.
Letting out a soft sigh, he tentatively asked, “Gu Yu, have you recovered?”
The arms holding him tightened slightly. After a long while, Yu Ruan finally heard that familiar voice: “Mm.”
“Then, should we continue?”
“Mm.” He responded lightly and stood up. The rustling sound of fabric came from behind as Gu Yu bent down, slipped his arms under Yu Ruan’s armpits, and gently lifted him up, turning him to face himself.
Yu Ruan blinked in confusion, staring blankly at the Alpha’s calm face, unable to grasp his thoughts.
He reached out to help Yu Ruan fasten the button at his collar, then paused. He seemed to be observing or contemplating something. His lowered eyelashes concealed the emotions in his eyes.
His warm fingertips pressed against the back of Yu Ruan’s neck, applying a gentle but firm pressure. A tingling sensation that made his entire body go weak instantly spread through him. Yu Ruan’s face flushed with embarrassment, and he instinctively grabbed Gu Yu’s wrist: “Don’t touch.”
Gu Yu looked down at him.
“It feels.” Yu Ruan stammered. He wasn’t sure if the other person was aware of these Omega-specific sensitivities, but he felt it necessary to explain. “You can’t just touch it casually.”
“Can’t touch?”
Yu Ruan nodded with difficulty, almost burying his head in his chest. Though he felt that he had just allowed Gu Yu to kiss and even bite that spot, his words now carried no conviction.
“You let me touch it earlier.”
“That was then, the situation was different,” Yu Ruan argued. But whether it was due to the influence of pheromones, he felt he was becoming less able to refuse Gu Yu. He could only try to change the subject: “Since you’ve recovered, let’s leave this place quickly.”
Gu Yu didn’t speak. He lowered his gaze to Yu Ruan’s eyes, braced his right hand against the wall, and slowly leaned in closer.
Their breaths mingled, and his intense pheromones once again enveloped Yu Ruan completely. The close proximity allowed Yu Ruan to see the dense, long lashes framing his slightly lowered eyes. His face, which had just regained its normal temperature, heated up again instantly. His heart pounded wildly, and Yu Ruan awkwardly averted his gaze: “Gu Yu.”
If this continued, he really would.
Just then, a pleasant melody broke the intimate atmosphere in the secret passage. Gu Yu glanced at the flickering communicator in Yu Ruan’s hand, his lips twitched slightly, and he finally chose to answer the call for him.
“Ruan Ruan, are you okay??” As soon as the call connected, Cheng Mu’s voice shattered the silence, rushing urgently through the speaker. “Are you with Gu Yu now? Or are you alone? How’s the situation? Are you hurt? Can you continue with the challenge?”
Hearing this barrage of questions, Yu Ruan was momentarily stunned: Cheng Mu had asked so many things at once where should he even begin to answer?
He looked up at Gu Yu. The Alpha calmly took the communicator and replied, “We’re together, unhurt, and can continue with the challenge.”
“Great!”
Hearing this, Cheng Mu finally relaxed and let out a long sigh of relief. He glanced at the others in the room, gave them a reassuring look, and turned back to the communicator: “I’m so glad you two didn’t get separated, or I’d have been worried sick. Ah, you have no idea when we saw you fall earlier, we were all nearly scared to death.”
Yu Ruan nodded empathetically upon hearing this. He didn’t have much of a tangible feeling about falling himself; instead, it was when Gu Yu leaped from a safe area to rescue him that his heart nearly stopped from the tension. He truly hadn’t expected the other to value him so highly, feeling both deeply moved and a little guilty.
“Don’t do that again next time,” he said softly.
Gu Yu neither agreed nor disagreed, simply asking Cheng Mu, “Can we go out now?”
“Well!” Cheng Mu hesitated, instinctively glancing around the room. Several people with serious expressions were typing rapidly, lines of code scrolling across their screens. In the distance, Xie Zhi, dressed in the uniform of the Chief Secretary, held a cup and smiled, his eyes crinkling. “What’s up?”
“…” Cheng Mu decided to be straightforward.
He cleared his throat, about to explain the current situation to the two of them, when suddenly the sound of a lock turning came from outside the room. Cheng Mu followed the noise and saw a pair of impeccably polished military boots step inside. The newcomer, dressed in a crisp uniform with an impassive expression, looked directly at him and said, “Let me handle it.”
Cheng Mu stared blankly for a moment, then nodded and handed over the headset.
The newcomer walked over, took the headset, and adjusted the microphone. “Gu Yu, can you hear me?”
A familiar voice came through the microphone, causing both people in the hidden passage to pause briefly. Yu Ruan blinked in surprise, watching Gu Yu’s calm demeanor, and asked hesitantly, “Is that Teacher Lin?”
Gu Yu gave an affirmative hum and replied, “Go ahead.”
“There’s an issue with your competition system. The technical team is working on a fix,” Lin Fenghan said. “They’ll need about two more hours to complete the task. Until then, protect your partner. Once the restrictions are lifted, I’ll terminate the entire competition immediately. Any questions?”
Gu Yu’s eyelashes fluttered slightly as he lifted his gaze to Yu Ruan. After a moment, Yu Ruan heard him say, “I know. You don’t need to remind me, I’ll protect him regardless.”
Yu Ruan’s heart trembled.
From these brief exchanges, he grasped the meaning behind Lin Fenghan’s words the competition had encountered an unexpected issue. To protect the two of them, and more importantly, the other students still inside who hadn’t reached the corresponding progress, the decision had been made to terminate the entire competition.
In other words, they only had two hours left to complete the competition.
Staying put would ensure their safety, but it would also mean forfeiting the match.
Although Gu Yu had repeatedly emphasized the difficulty of the competition from the start to accommodate his feelings, based on his observations, Yu Ruan fully believed that even without him, Gu Yu could undoubtedly win the championship.
If he had to stay put just to protect him.
At this thought, Yu Ruan took control of the communication and said into the microphone, “So we have two hours, right?”
Hearing his voice, the other end of the line fell silent for a moment before confirming, “If everything goes smoothly, the technical team will complete the task within two hours, definitely no more than three. Please don’t worry.”
“What about the results?”
“…” Lin Fenghan paused briefly. “According to the rules, they’ll be voided.”
Just as expected!
