The Canary Omega I Kept Turned Out to Be My Fiancée - Chapter 1
Your technique is good; this is your tip.
The Bar
The lights shone brightly against the wine glasses, casting a shimmering, gold-dust refraction. Pei Song tapped her fingertips against her glass, admiring the perfection of the ice sphere.
“Remember to come to my house tomorrow to finalize the wedding date,” Lu Lingzhi’s voice drifted over. Seated right beside her, Pei Song nodded offhandedly, a faint sound escaping the back of her throat.
Sensing Pei Song’s irritation, Lu Lingzhi quickly added, “My sister is truly gorgeous. She is a good girl who embodies both beauty and talent. Just come over with peace of mind tomorrow.”
Pei Song glanced at her sideways, pressing the cold rim of her wine glass against Lu Lingzhi’s forehead. “How many times have you lied to me?”
Lu Lingzhi immediately straightened up, raising four fingers as she swore solemnly, “Heaven and earth are my witness, I am really not lying to you. I swear on our lifelong friendship.”
Hearing the phrase friendship oath, Pei Song let out a soft snort of laughter.
Back in school, especially whenever Lu Lingzhi wanted to copy Pei Song’s answers during exams, she would always pull the same line: Considering our lifelong friendship, I will definitely study hard tomorrow.
And the result? …It was still the same old story.
In literature, people sighed endlessly, repeating themselves over and over; in Lu Lingzhi’s case, tomorrow followed tomorrow, and how many tomorrows could there possibly be?
“Second Young Miss Lu, I believe you when you say your sister is talented and a good girl. But…” Pei Song paused, almost letting slip the words Your sister is really ugly. “If your sister is actually a beauty, forgive me for being unable to agree. Even liars keep up with the times when they deceive people.”
Pei Song was supposed to enter an arranged marriage with the eldest daughter of the Lu family, Lu Ningzhi.
Refusing to accept this fate with every fiber of her being, she had come to the bar to drink away her sorrows. Lu Lingzhi, acting as both her best friend and Lu Ningzhi’s younger sister, had come along to talk some sense into her. Of course, all the flattering remarks Lu Lingzhi had made about Lu Ningzhi were things Pei Song’s parents had already nagged her about repeatedly before she even arrived.
Pei Song was fine with almost everything, except for one fatal flaw: she was an absolute visual addict.
Whenever she saw someone attractive, she simply couldn’t move her feet. In her own words, her standard for a romantic partner was a good-looking face paired with an interesting soul. As for the question of money? She had plenty of money of her own.
In her eyes, good looks could literally serve as meals.
Since Lu Ningzhi lacked top-tier visual appeal, even if everything else about her was first-class, she completely failed to meet Pei Song’s criteria.
“Have you ever seen my sister in person?”
Pei Song took out her phone, opened her photo album, and showed it to her friend. Back in high school, Lu Ningzhi had worn straight bangs, thick black-framed glasses, and metal braces that showed whenever she smiled, complete with acne scattered across her face.
Lu Lingzhi:
This was her sister’s ultimate dark history.
Pei Song held the photo up for the bartender to see and stated righteously, “You tell me: is her beauty considered good-looking, or just average?”
The bartender took one look, remained silent, and thought to herself that it was indeed very average.
She was the kind of person who would completely blend into a crowd without ever drawing a second glance.
“Look at her WeChat moments.”
“Nope! I don’t have your sister’s WeChat. I only add beautiful women and handsome guys.”
“I’ll show you what she looks like now. With a face as gorgeous as mine, how bad could my sister possibly turn out?” Lu Lingzhi hurriedly unlocked her phone. She was determined to make Pei Song witness the miracle of a girl changing completely over eighteen years and wipe that smug look right off her face.
Pei Song argued persuasively, “One look and I can tell you failed biology at the bottom of your class. Good-looking parents don’t necessarily have good-looking kids, take your sister, an unstylish honors student, for instance. Or when academic parents produce a slacker, like you, a beauty with brains of straw.”
“You’re going to regret this!”
“I am going to regret this,” Pei Song tilted her head, putting on an exaggerated look of remorse, though her tone remained thoroughly mocking, making it clear that regret was the absolute last thing on her mind. With lazy malice, she delivered a finishing blow: “Just make sure it isn’t photoshopped. Second Young Miss Lu, I happen to have the anti-fraud app downloaded on my phone.”
Prejudice in human hearts is truly like a towering mountain.
In Pei Song’s case, it had taken on a remarkably concrete form.
“Just you wait, Pei Song! My sister has a gorgeous college classmate who has been in love with her for four full years, alright?”
“Who?” Pei Song smiled, curving a pair of attractive peach-blossom eyes that made her look as gentle as a spring breeze. She asked the bartender to mix her another drink, but suddenly, her gaze nailed itself to the far end of the bar.
“Her name has three characters, she’s Miss S. She is, ”
“Whether it’s Miss S or Miss Z, I sincerely wish the eldest Miss Lu and her college classmate a hundred years of marital harmony and an early birth of a beautiful daughter. I wish you, Second Young Miss Lu, an early promotion to the title of aunt. I will definitely send a cash gift.” Pei Song tossed her head back to finish her drink, right as she prepared to order another round.
Suddenly, a stray beam of light caught the corner of her eye. A woman wearing a white camisole, sporting a head of silver-gray long hair, with fair skin and a solitary air, sat drinking by herself with an elegant posture. As she tilted her head back to drink, the ambient light caught her jawline, casting a magnificent golden sheen. A single droplet of liquor slid down the corner of her lips before finally vanishing into the collar of her shirt.
Following Pei Song’s gaze, the bartender looked over and indeed saw a breathtaking woman. Pei Song made a shushing gesture to the bartender, warning her not to alert her companion nearby.
She picked up her glass and walked a bit closer to the woman. Resting her chin in her hand, she caught a whiff of a pleasing fragrance of roses. Uncontrollably, she drifted right up to the woman’s side. “Drinking alone?”
The woman looked up at her and let out a light laugh, causing a sudden skip in Pei Song’s heartbeat. Staring at the half-lip print stamped onto the glass, neither bewitching nor vulgar, it massively piqued her interest.
“Indeed I am.”
“What a coincidence, so am I. Seeing you, pretty lady, makes me feel like the entire world has lit up.”
The woman reached out and hooked her chin. “Do you say this exact line to every single Omega you meet?”
“Pei Song, I found it. Open your dog eyes and take a good look!” Lu Lingzhi marched back eagerly, only to find Pei Song’s seat entirely empty. Refusing to give up, she shoved her phone toward the bartender. With just a single glance, the bartender froze mid-motion, her hand wiping the glass halting as her pupils dilated slightly.
In the photograph, the woman was cradling a Maine Coon cat in her arms, wearing a white dress free of cosmetics, with silver-gray long hair. A thin layer of tomato-red tint graced her lips, giving her a fresh, refined aura that made her skin look like snow. Seductive without being common, she fit the archetype of a pure first-love ideal.
She was the kind of presence that would completely eclipse Lu Lingzhi if she stood right next to her.
Lu Lingzhi raised an eyebrow. “I told you my sister was pretty. I’m definitely sending this to Pei Song so she can open her blind eyes.”
However, the bartender replied, “Don’t bother. You really didn’t photoshop it, I just saw your sister in person.”
“Where?”
Following the direction of the bartender’s gesture, Lu Lingzhi spotted Pei Song and her sister sitting together, deep in conversation, before the two of them stood up to leave. Pei Song wobbled slightly on her feet before being gently supported by her sister, her arm resting casually over her sister’s slender shoulder.
Since she was no longer going to send the photo to Pei Song, she changed her plans.
Lu Lingzhi: Mom, Pei Song just met my sister.
Lu Lingzhi hurriedly sent a WeChat message to Mother Lu, along with a picture of the two figures from behind. She quickly placed a phone call to her mother: “Mom, check your phone right now, Pei Song just met my sister.”
Mother Lu responded perfunctorily: “Mhm.”
Lu Lingzhi’s mission in getting Pei Song to drink had originally been to ensure her attendance at the upcoming family meeting to settle the engagement and wedding schedule. Now that success had come effortlessly, she asked enthusiastically, “How much are you planning to give me?”
“Ninety thousand.” Just as Mother Lu’s voice trailed off, an Alipay notification chimed, instantly crediting 100 yuan. Lu Lingzhi counted the zeros, it was only a two-digit number. She counted her fingers again; ninety thousand should have had four zeros. “Mom, what about the ninety thousand?”
“Pong! Eight of bamboos!” Mother Lu was in the middle of a mahjong game and said with crisp decisiveness, “You just took a photo of their backs; who knows if you’re photoshopped-lying to me? Even paparazzi aren’t as perfunctory as you. That 100 bucks is your designated driver fee, now hurry back home.”
“My sister doesn’t need that. Aren’t you worried that she, ”
“Your sister is an adult.”
“Am I not an adult? I’m twenty-three years old.”
“You’re only half-ripe.”
The Next Day
Sunlight streamed through the heavy curtains. Waking up from her sleep, Pei Song stared at the crystal chandelier overhead and caught the lingering scent of a light rose pheromone blended with lemon in the room.
Suddenly, it all came rushing back: last night, she had spent the night with an Omega in a hotel room.
Turning her head, she was greeted by a cool, aloof face, her amber pupils gleaming beneath raven-feather eyelashes.
There was still a cool aura about the woman, as if she had just stepped out of a bath, and her seaweed-like long hair was scattered across the bed. Shifting her gaze upward, she noticed ambiguous kiss marks scattered along the woman’s collarbone and neck…
Right now, the woman was leaning lazily against the headboard playing on her phone. Pei Song inched closer, catching the faint scent of roses still lingering on her skin.
Deep within her memory, she remembered smelling that exact scent on someone before, though she had completely forgotten when or where.
Staring at those seductively ripe lips, a fresh wave of palpitations stirred in her chest. Turning her head with a smile, she greeted, “Good morning, pretty lady. What a truly delightful encounter we had last night.”
The other woman’s fingertips paused as she raised her gaze to look at her.
That single glance was packed with infinite charm, making Pei Song’s heart skip an inexplicable beat. Meanwhile, the Omega felt a twinge of internal confusion: Pretty lady? She doesn’t recognize me?
Feeling slightly unnerved by the heavy stare, and being a regular internet user who knew very well how Omegas loved being called sister, cutie, or pretty lady, Pei Song sized her up. The woman looked to be right around her own age.
Soothing her tone, she offered, “If you don’t like being called pretty lady, then tell me: what’s your name?”
Hard evidence confirmed it!
She really had forgotten all about her.
Ding, ding, ding.
Completely absorbed in admiring the Omega beside her, Pei Song didn’t even hear the ringing until the phone sounded for the third time.
Frowning, the Omega beside her nudged her: “Answer your phone.”
Slightly furrowing her brows, Pei Song tiptoed out of bed, haphazardly throwing on a piece of clothing while mentally resolving that if the call wasn’t about something urgent, she was going to unleash a fury of complaints. Glancing at the caller ID to see it was Mother Lu, she answered, “Hello, Mom, what is it?”
“Where are you? You need to come over to the Lu family today to discuss the wedding arrangements, hurry up and get over here.”
From the other end of the line, Mother Lu immediately began lecturing: “Sick, sick! Didn’t I already tell you yesterday? I’m giving you half an hour to get here, or you’re dead meat.”
Suddenly, an extra hand entered her field of view.
The Omega stretched out a delicate, jade-white hand and crooked a finger at her. Pei Song immediately scurried back onto the bed. In a sweet, soft-toned voice, slightly raspy from the previous night’s festivities, the Omega spoke: “Hello, Uncle and Auntie.”
The Pei parents on the other end of the line paused in shock, and Mother Lu immediately demanded, “Which woman are you with right now?”
Wearing a wicked grin, as if she had seized absolute control of the initiative, Pei Song laughed maliciously. “Mom, do you honestly think I can come over now? You can just tell the eldest Miss Lu that I’m out running wild and that I’m too unworthy to climb high enough to match the Lu family. Or better yet, tell her I’ve lost my mind. I am the Alpha she will never, ever be able to wait for, Pei, Song.”
The Alpha she will never be able to wait for.
The Omega lifted her eyes, a thin layer of frost covering her gaze.
As soon as those words left her mouth, a sudden chill crept down Pei Song’s spine. Turning around, she discovered the Omega had already put her clothes back on. Quickly trying to smooth things over with flattery, Pei Song praised, “Pretty lady, you really are amazing. Sincerity is truly the ultimate killer move.”
The Omega walked up to her, a few red bills appearing in her hand. Stuffing the money directly into Pei Song’s neckline, she patted her cheek and brushed aside a stray lock of hair. Looking like a deeply satisfied fox with a wicked glint in her eye, she remarked, “Your technique is good; this is your tip.”
Pei Song’s pupils dilated in absolute shock as she registered the token of approval from the Omega. “What do you take me for? A host bar Alpha?”
“You said it yourself.” The Omega pressed a single finger against Pei Song’s lips. “Shh.”
The next moment, darkness fell over Pei Song as soft lips pressed firmly against her own, biting down hard to exact revenge for the lingering soreness from the marking session the night before. As the door clicked shut once more, the cloud of rose fog lingering before her gradually dissipated, and the Alpha who had fallen into the rose garden finally regained her sanity.
Waking up fully from her morning kiss, Pei Song stood up, only for a flurry of cash bills to tumble out from her clothing with a rustling sound. Cradling the stack of money in her hands, she stood frozen in disbelief. This… this… she, the great CEO Pei, had actually just been tipped like a gigolo.
Yet, despite her shock, she still picked up the bills to count them.
Who would ever pick a fight with money? A thousand bucks, was she really only worth one thousand bucks?
Suddenly, a bright flash of reflected light caught the corner of her eye. Turning her head, she spotted a rectangular card lying nearby. Picking it up, she examined it closely.
It was an identity card.
Name: Sang Ningzhi. Date of Birth: July 10, 2001. Home Address: Jiangcheng XXXXX. So she was twenty-four years old, just a year older than herself. The girl in the photo, with dark hair and red lips, truly grew more stunning the longer you looked at her.
“So, her name is Sang Ningzhi. What a lovely name.”
Sang Ningzhi, you have successfully captured my full attention.
Checking the time, she walked over to the window. Bracing one hand against the frame, the morning breeze ruffled her collar as she watched that graceful figure exit the hotel lobby and climb into a Didi rideshare vehicle, waving the ID card in her hand.
She shouted down toward the street below: “Sang Ningzhi! Next time, I’ll work hard enough to make sure you’re truly satisfied!”
