- Chapter 6 - The Vase Beauty (Part 6)
While Bo Shuyi and Zhang Chuiming went to the study for their lesson, Lin Nanyun stayed in the living room playing with her phone.
Her Weibo account had over two million followers, and her profile was verified as a Director of Xingshan Media. Every artist under the company, from the A-listers to the eighteenth-tier nobodies, followed her.
Lin Nanyun slowly browsed through her old posts, only to find they were all photos or videos flaunting wealth with very little actual substance. It took less than half an hour for Lin Nanyun to scroll through everything once.
She was just about to check the trending topics when the study door suddenly pushed open from the inside.
Bo Shuyi and Zhang Chuiming walked out together. Lin Nanyun stood up in surprise, only to hear Zhang Chuiming say to Bo Shuyi, “You do not need to come for lessons anymore.”
Before Bo Shuyi could speak, Lin Nanyun ran over in a state of alarm. “Uncle Zhang! Even if Shuyi lacks talent, she will work very hard to learn acting from you. You cannot stop her from attending classes!”
The sheer volume of Lin Nanyun’s outburst made Zhang Chuiming’s head ring.
Bo Shuyi took Lin Nanyun’s hand. “Nanyun, you have misunderstood. Uncle Zhang did not mean it like that.”
Beside them, Zhang Chuiming’s buzzing brain cleared instantly upon hearing Bo Shuyi call him Uncle Zhang. He smiled so widely his eyes narrowed into slits, looking as kind and gentle as a typical neighborhood uncle.
Lin Nanyun also sensed that the atmosphere between the two was not what she had imagined. “Then what did you mean?” she asked hesitantly.
Zhang Chuiming said with a smile, “Shuyi is not untalented. Her talent is incredibly good; it actually shocked me. I am telling her not to come back because I have nothing left to teach her.”
Lin Nanyun looked at Bo Shuyi in shock. “Shuyi, your acting is that good?”
Bo Shuyi replied, “It is alright.”
Zhang Chuiming became disgruntled. “What do you mean ‘alright’? You should not be modest about such things. Shuyi is what people online call a veteran actress. Her acting skills are extraordinary.”
Lin Nanyun hugged Bo Shuyi excitedly and hopped twice. “Shuyi, it is wonderful that you can act!”
Bo Shuyi naturally returned the hug. Touching her waist for the first time, she found it slender and soft. Resisting the urge to bow her head and kiss her, she said, “Every time something good happens to me, you are always happier than I am.”
Lin Nanyun’s eyes curved into two crescent moons. “I just want you to have a good life!”
“Nanyun,” Bo Shuyi murmured. Her heart fluttered at that sweet, soft voice. She gently cupped the back of Lin Nanyun’s neck and pressed her against her shoulder, pulling her into a complete embrace.
Lin Nanyun had originally intended only a light hug, but she had not expected Bo Shuyi to hold her so firmly in return. Feeling that stunning figure pressed against her own, Lin Nanyun completely forgot what she was supposed to do. Her face turned bright red, and her heart felt as if it might leap out of her throat.
The forgotten Zhang Chuiming stood to the side. He felt completely ignored. The atmosphere had changed so abruptly that he felt like a third wheel. Clutching his teacup, he turned and went back into the study. He felt quite single at that moment.
After saying goodbye to Zhang Chuiming, Lin Nanyun dropped Bo Shuyi home before returning to her own small apartment.
The moment she stepped inside, she kicked off her shoes and bolted for the large bed that occupied half the room. She scrambled onto the mattress and buried her face in the soft pillow, her fair, slender legs kicking back and forth happily.
[Host, I can understand your feelings as a first-time lover, but we have more important matters to discuss.]
Lin Nanyun turned her head, revealing half of a flushed cheek. Her eyes were watery and shy, and the speed of her kicking legs slowed down a little.
Lin Nanyun: “199, do not talk nonsense. I am not in a relationship!”
[Oh.] She is over the moon just from a hug, yet she claims she is not in a relationship. Only a fool would believe that.
Lin Nanyun, assuming the system believed her, asked, “199, let us talk about the important matter.”
[The fact that Bo Shuyi’s acting is so good is very strange. Her persona is clearly that of a weak, helpless canary who is kept by others. If her acting were this good, her ending in the original plot should not have been so tragic. I am wondering if there is a bug or an intruder involved that caused her persona to change.]
Lin Nanyun’s eyes rounded. “You mean there might be people like me in this world?”
[Yes. Some intruders love destruction, some help Time Management officers complete missions, and others do nothing but watch the show from the sidelines. Only those with extremely high mental power can intrude into these small worlds. Intruders are a hassle; they are usually enemies rather than friends. I hope we are not unlucky enough to encounter one.]
Lin Nanyun thought about it carefully and comforted the system. “Do not worry. You said only people with extremely high mental power can intrude. The probability is so low; I will not be that unlucky.”
Lin Nanyun continued, “Besides, I think you are wrong about her acting being inconsistent with her persona. The plot you gave me never explicitly said her acting was bad. She stopped filming after meeting Lin Dongting, so she never had a chance to prove herself. Later, she fell in love with him and was content to be his canary, so she would never have gone against his wishes to act.”
Lin Nanyun: “Just a few days ago, I asked her about her plans, and she said she wanted to be supported. Her contract with the company only has six months left. If I had not had Luo Lei arrange acting lessons for her, she might never have shown her talent. Her change is because of me!”
As she said the last sentence, there was a light in Lin Nanyun’s eyes.
System 199 was stunned by her analysis. [That makes sense.] And she still says she is not in love. Honestly, I cannot look at this anymore.
The day before the auditions for Starlight for You, Luo Lei personally took Bo Shuyi to see the director, Luo Yunqi.
Luo Lei had not initially believed Lin Nanyun when she said Bo Shuyi’s acting was great. However, Zhang Chuiming had called him that same evening to personally confirm it, earnestly urging him to take good care of Bo Shuyi and not let such talent go to waste.
Bo Shuyi? The Vase Beauty? A talent!
Luo Lei felt as if the world had turned upside down. But he could not ignore the facts. Once he believed it, he was overjoyed. He thought he had a bronze player in his hands, only to realize in the blink of an eye that she was a king.
The auditions for Starlight for You did not include the female lead, as the role had already been cast internally. However, the chosen lead told Luo Yunqi the night before last that she had just found out she was five weeks pregnant. The doctor advised bed rest, so she withdrew from the project.
The crew was about to start filming. Without a female lead, the start date would have to be pushed back, and every day of delay meant burning money. The assistant director had screened a pile of female stars for her, but Luo Yunqi felt none of them fit the image of the lead. She was so stressed that she had developed a canker sore.
Luo Lei saw her post “Feeling frustrated” on his social feed that night. When he checked in on her, Luo Yunqi explained the situation in a private chat. Luo Lei immediately told her about Bo Shuyi.
However, since Bo Shuyi’s image as a Vase Beauty was so deeply rooted in people’s minds, Luo Yunqi insisted on seeing her in person first. Thus, today’s interview was arranged.
