The Blind Alpha Coveted by the Frail Beauty Omega - Chapter 28
You and I, We Must Leave Together
What greeted her eyes was the face that had once stunned both Wei Jiangxue and 233. Now, appearing before Wei Jiangxue’s eyes was a living, breathing person, not a projection from the past.
Thick eyelashes cast a faint shadow under her eyes. Even the sunlight seemed to favor Mi Ruian, illuminating a face without a single blemish, her eyes shimmering with a hidden brilliance. Mi Ruian wore a shallow smile, her eyes curving like crescent moons. Her hand, reaching toward Wei Jiangxue, was like white jade as she helped fasten the seatbelt. Her blue-and-white striped shirt wasn’t buttoned all the way to the neck; the top button was left open, revealing delicate and slender collarbones.
Looking further down, there was a vast expanse of pinkish-white skin, causing Wei Jiangxue to blink her eyes in a panic. Her brain almost stopped functioning, and she could feel nothing but the restless thumping of her heart against her chest.
The scent of roses was mixed with the fresh fragrance of morning dew and leaves, carrying an enticing sweetness.
“Snap out of it.” As if dissatisfied with the dazed look of the person opposite her, Mi Ruian snapped her fingers by Wei Jiangxue’s ear. She glanced out the car window. “I saw the text you sent me; you’re quite quick-witted. Those people over there are the ones stalking you, right? It seems we need to find a quiet place first. As for my question just now, think of an excuse to make up for yourself.”
Her voice was clear and cool, but at this moment, Wei Jiangxue had no time to appreciate its charm. To her, Mi Ruian’s words sounded like a witch chanting an incantation. Once they shook off the pursuers, the “casting time” for the magic would end, and a punishment would likely descend.
What should she say? It was too late to pretend to be blind now, wasn’t it? When she first entered the car, she had been too busy focusing on the two stalkers outside to notice who was sitting in the driver’s seat.
Heaven knows, Wei Jiangxue’s heart nearly stopped when she turned her head and saw Mi Ruian reaching out her hand!
Fortunately, Mi Ruian was sensible and didn’t press her for an answer right then and there. However, this sudden extra time to think was of little use to Wei Jiangxue. The scenery outside blurred past, and the black car merged into the flow of traffic. Even if those two “tailgaters” wanted to catch up, it would be difficult now.
“They definitely memorized your license plate number,” Wei Jiangxue sat stiffly, her spine straight, not leaning back.
Her first sentence wasn’t an explanation for her sudden recovery of sight, but a questioning of whether Mi Ruian’s car would expose their movements.
Mi Ruian glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “Mm-hmm, but they’d have to memorize a valid license plate number first.”
Meaning there was something special about the plates. Wei Jiangxue immediately felt relieved.
“I… you know, I wasn’t born blind. I lost my sight after an accident. The doctor said it’s called functional vision loss, or psychogenic blindness. The duration is uncertain. Before you moved in, my vision would occasionally recover and then worsen; most of the time, I couldn’t see anything at all. It just suddenly recovered a moment ago, and it gave me a huge fright too… I can see now, but I don’t know when my vision will be completely lost again…”
Wei Jiangxue’s throat felt dry. She peeked at Mi Ruian cautiously, like a kitten poking its head out from a corner to observe a human.
“Psychogenic blindness? Is it related to your mental state?” Mi Ruian held the steering wheel, still looking straight ahead while driving. However, the curve of her lips widened slightly, carrying a hint of playfulness.
Did that mean she believed her? Wei Jiangxue was uncertain. Her brain worked at light speed. “Because I was short on money, I didn’t go for the psychological intervention treatment the doctor recommended. The money I make as a streamer isn’t enough either…”
A lie. In reality, the gift money alone from “Mi” was enough for Wei Jiangxue to live comfortably for over a decade.
“Even the salary I pay you is saved from my controlled spending. Think about it—if I were lying to you, why would I hire you as a tutor to give me lessons? Right? If I could see, I would have studied on my own long ago. And the makeup, picking out clothes… you’ve been doing my styling for so long, don’t you know the condition of my eyes?” Wei Jiangxue continued boldly. The information was half-true, which indeed made it sound more convincing.
You never know until you try—lying was surprisingly effective. Wei Jiangxue hadn’t even realized that so many things she had directed Mi Ruian to do in the past could serve as evidence of her blindness.
The car fell into a brief silence, with only the roar of the engine as background noise. The rose fragrance seemed to be persistently lunging toward Wei Jiangxue. While peeking at Mi Ruian, she also felt annoyed that the car was so heavily scented; it felt a bit stifling to breathe.
“Is that so? True, I almost poked your eye with an eyeliner once, and you didn’t react at all.” Mi Ruian’s voice betrayed no emotion.
“What! You almost poked my eye!” Wei Jiangxue grew angry upon hearing this. “You never told me! What if you had ruined my eyes!”
“It was only ‘almost,’ I didn’t touch them. But I apologize; it won’t happen again,” Mi Ruian promised. At that time, she had received an important message and took a casual glance, which startled her and caused her hand to slip.
At that moment, the eyeliner was only a tiny gap away from Wei Jiangxue’s eyeball. Fortunately, she had redirected it in time and didn’t touch her. After that accident, she had been exceptionally careful when doing Wei Jiangxue’s makeup, not letting herself be affected by any outside factors.
“Fine, I reluctantly forgive you.” Wei Jiangxue swallowed her grievance and anger. Since Mi Ruian hadn’t caused any actual harm and it was so long ago, there was no point in pursuing it further.
“Why didn’t you just tell Mi Feng where I was?” Mi Ruian stopped questioning Wei Jiangxue about her eyes. “Mi Feng—that’s my uncle.”
The shift in topic made Wei Jiangxue breathe a sigh of relief. Thinking of Mi Feng made her a bit angry. “There’s nothing to say. I disliked him the moment I saw him. Just because he asks, does that mean I have to answer truthfully? Besides, he wasn’t even acting, was he? I’m not an idiot; the offer was so good it was obviously a trap! Oh, fine, not a trap, just a bait. He wanted to find out your whereabouts from me…”
Wait, according to her character setting, she wasn’t supposed to know that the other party was a “Young Lady,” was she?
Wei Jiangxue narrowed her eyes and suddenly turned to look at Mi Ruian. “Yo, Miss Mi, are you here on an incognito tour? And you said you had no money and could temporarily be my stylist… With your status, can’t you have whatever you want? Why don’t you go back to your uncle?”
She then shook her head, refuting her own words. “No, no. If you were really close relatives, I’m sure he wouldn’t be completely unable to get a response from you. As expected, there must be some ‘wealthy family secrets’ I’m not allowed to know, right? I don’t care about the rest, but since you’re a rich miss, you’re definitely not short on money. Seeing as I’ve kept your secret, you should at least give me some hush money.”
“His methods have always been like that. However, as you said, my relationship with him is indeed not good. I have to thank you for not selling me out today. As for the hush money…” Mi Ruian drawled her words. “There are actually better ways to make someone keep a secret.”
As she finished speaking, the car stopped at a red light. Mi Ruian turned her head with a half-smile, staring at Wei Jiangxue. “Guess what it is?”
The sun had gone behind the clouds, and the car’s interior was all dark tones. The lines of Mi Ruian’s face became clearer and more defined. Her superior bone structure added a touch of feminine mystery to the shadows on her face. Her eyes were devoid of light, staring intently at Wei Jiangxue.
Wei Jiangxue suddenly felt a sense of foreboding. Right now, replacing the steering wheel in Mi Ruian’s hands with an axe or a chainsaw wouldn’t feel out of place at all. She even thought about jumping out of the car, but she looked down at the door and had no idea where the mechanism to open it was.
Just as Wei Jiangxue was so anxious she almost bolted from her seat, Mi Ruian suddenly burst out laughing. She leaned back against the soft pillow of the headrest, tears of laughter welling in the corners of her eyes. “Were you scared? This is a society ruled by law; you don’t need to worry.”
Wei Jiangxue was stunned. “You weren’t thinking of silencing me? Really? Don’t trick me! Give me a straight answer!”
“What benefit would I get from making you disappear? I’d have to go through the trouble of disposing of your body. Besides, you didn’t reveal my location to Mi Feng even in the face of such a big temptation; I should be grateful to you.” Mi Ruian’s fingers tightened on the steering wheel. “He is very insidious. I am not safe, and neither are you. Just wait; he won’t let this go easily.”
“How can it be like this…” Wei Jiangxue clutched her seatbelt, feeling uneasy. She had helped Mi Ruian largely because the mission required it, and because she knew Mi Feng was a bad guy.
But there was also a small part of her that thought about how difficult it was for Mi Ruian, an Omega, to take revenge on her enemies. Wei Jiangxue sympathized with her, so she instinctively helped cover for her—this sympathy even took priority over her own mission.
“It won’t be long before he finds our address,” Mi Ruian said decisively.
“Huh? Are you not going to rent with me anymore?” Wei Jiangxue’s heart tightened. Had Mi Ruian decided to move out early? That wouldn’t do; her mission wasn’t finished yet!
Sigh! That jinx Mi Feng! Wei Jiangxue quickly called out to 233 in her mind: [Come out and help! Mi Ruian says she wants to leave the rental house!]
Before 233 could respond, Mi Ruian spoke again: “That’s not what I meant.”
What? So she didn’t plan on moving out? But out of character necessity, Wei Jiangxue tested the waters. “Eh, Miss Mi, don’t you think that low-rent apartment is small and cramped?”
“Do you want to live in a big house?”
The light turned green. Wei Jiangxue saw a faint dimple on Mi Ruian’s cheek.
What did that have to do with her? Wei Jiangxue didn’t understand, but she answered honestly, “Who doesn’t want to live in a big house? I dream of having a super luxurious place; I’d wake up laughing in my sleep.”
“Since he has already locked onto you, and you’ve sided with me and even lied to him, Mi Feng won’t let you off,” Mi Ruian said calmly. “You’ve surely realized that since he could find you to talk under the guise of contract issues today and even send people to follow you, what about tomorrow? It will only be more excessive, more irresistible methods to force you to ‘talk.’ What kind of person would I be to leave my benefactor behind? Heartless?”
Wei Jiangxue nodded silently; that was true. Then she quickly shook her head—wait! What was Mi Ruian rambling about? What did she actually mean?
Soon, she had her answer—
“So, you and I, we must leave together. I will help you avoid trouble until things are resolved. As compensation for involving you in this, I will be responsible for your living needs and safety during this time.”
