The Beta Wife Claimed by Competing Alphas - Chapter 20
“The only reason you were so proactive today was to ask for”
“I want you to kiss me.”
Mu Yan’s eyes were rimmed with red, and tear streaks still stained his face. His voice was soft and weak, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor.
Lu Chong froze.
He knew Mu Yan was terrified when being held up with one hand like that. This wasn’t the answer he was looking for; he had originally intended to wait until Mu Yan said the words he expected to hear before letting it go.
But this answer was also outside his expectations.
He hadn’t realized that Mu Yan liked him this much, even more than he had imagined.
“Lu Chong, kiss me.”
In the end, he slowly lowered Mu Yan, shielding his head with his hand, and kissed him just as he desired.
Mu Yan closed his eyes wearily. He didn’t respond intensely; he seemed completely unable to stand. If Lu Chong hadn’t been holding him, he would have surely collapsed onto the floor.
For Mu Yan, this rare, gentle kiss had nothing to do with romance. It was merely the relief of a survivor. He had finally returned to the solid ground after the torture of being suspended in mid-air.
Seeing no reaction, Lu Chong kissed his closed eyes again.
Mu Yan was exhausted, letting out a very faint “mm” from his throat.
Lu Chong knew his body was likely at its limit. In a rare moment of conscience, he chose not to knot inside him. He then scooped up Mu Yan’s limp legs, intending to carry him to bed.
However, Mu Yan struggled weakly, as if resisting.
“What is it?”
“Need a shower.”
Lu Chong asked, puzzled, “Aren’t you tired? Just wash tomorrow.”
Mu Yan closed his eyes and remained silent for a long time.
“If I don’t get it out, I’ll get sick.”
He struggled out of Lu Chong’s arms and stood on the bathroom tiles. His legs were so soft it felt like he was stepping on a pile of cold cotton.
Lu Chong was stunned for a moment before it finally clicked: he hadn’t used a condom today and had finished inside Mu Yan.
It was his oversight. Although the risk of a Beta getting pregnant was very low, it didn’t mean Mu Yan wouldn’t get sick.
” ”
Mu Yan saw Lu Chong’s lips move as if he wanted to say something, but after waiting for nearly half a minute, Lu Chong still hadn’t spoken.
“Go to sleep,” Mu Yan said softly. “I’ll clean myself up.”
“Don’t need my help?” Lu Chong asked.
Mu Yan shook his head, and Lu Chong didn’t insist further.
By the time Mu Yan finished his shower and returned to the room, Lu Chong was lying in bed with his laptop, seemingly still handling work matters.
Should I mention that matter now?
Mu Yan hesitated for a moment but ultimately didn’t speak up.
Lu Chong didn’t like being disturbed while working. Since Mu Yan was the one asking for a favor, he didn’t want to make him angry. Tomorrow was the weekend; he could talk about it when they woke up.
Seeing him enter, Lu Chong reached out and turned off the lights. Mu Yan saw that the laptop screen was still bright and that Lu Chong had no intention of closing it, so he turned the lights back on.
“If you still have work, keep them on. I’m fine. Looking at a computer in the dark is bad for your eyes.”
Lu Chong didn’t say anything else, but he did offer a rare “Goodnight.”
In Mu Yan’s memory, Lu Chong rarely said things like “Goodnight” or “Good morning,” which he viewed as meaningless. Not to mention “I love you” or “I miss you,” phrases even Mu Yan found overly sentimental.
It seemed Lu Chong only offered this kind of token comfort whenever he had been too aggressive during his rut.
“What is it?” After a while, Lu Chong finally closed his laptop. “Is it the light and the computer, or is something on your mind?”
“Are you finished?” Mu Yan asked.
Lu Chong nodded. “Not yet, but it’s not urgent; tomorrow is the weekend. Besides, it’s nothing important.”
Mu Yan bit his lower lip. Those few words felt exceptionally difficult to say.
“Lu Chong, there’s a bit of a problem at the hospital,” Mu Yan’s voice grew lower and lower, despite his mental preparation. “Could I first take back the 100,000 yuan I gave you to start your business? Just to deal with the emergency.”
“That was an investment. How could the money be taken out now?” Lu Chong frowned at the suggestion. “Aren’t you a university student? How do you not even understand this?”
Mu Yan was taken aback. From Lu Chong’s tone, it sounded like he had said something very stupid.
“I didn’t know. I’m sorry.” Even though he had done nothing wrong, Mu Yan apologized subconsciously.
“The money in there can’t be taken out for you,” Lu Chong said impatiently. He didn’t feel like explaining the concept of financing; regardless, given the company’s current progress, he wasn’t going to let the money Mu Yan invested go to waste. “You’ll get dividends later, but it’s impossible now.”
Mu Yan seemed to summon a great deal of courage. “Then could you lend me 100,000 yuan first? I really have no other way. My brother has already gone to borrow”
His voice grew softer, the last few words nearly vanishing into the air. Mu Yan had been wearing his pajamas for a long time; the collar was loose and hung down, revealing his collarbone and the ambiguous red marks left by Lu Chong further down.
Every single one of them was left by Lu Chong.
Lin Yi, Lin Yi again.
An inexplicable fire rose in Lu Chong’s heart.
“The only reason you were so proactive today was to ask me for 100,000 yuan?”
He felt that Mu Yan was simply out of his mind.
During those university years, he hadn’t been stingy with Mu Yan, had he? If Mu Yan wanted something, as long as he asked directly and it was within his means, when had Lu Chong ever refused?
Since when did Mu Yan need to strip naked and have sex with him first just to ask for something?
By acting this way, what did he take himself for, and what did he take Lu Chong for? A whore and a john?
Lu Chong asked himself: although he indeed hadn’t thought about marrying Mu Yan, Mu Yan had stayed by his side during his lowest point. He certainly wouldn’t mistreat him.
Between the things Lu Chong had gifted him that Mu Yan had sold and his own 100,000 yuan in savings, it added up to nearly a million. He could be considered a small shareholder. It was only because Mu Yan knew nothing about the company and would just listen to whatever Lu Chong said even if he asked, that Lu Chong hadn’t let him get involved in company affairs.
It was only a matter of time before the company became profitable. Even by the lowest estimates, there would be at least a 50 percent return on investment. In the first year alone, over 400,000 yuan in dividends would be deposited into Mu Yan’s account.
While that didn’t seem like much money to the old Lu Chong, and giving that amount to a lover for a year wasn’t considered generous, Mu Yan was stubborn and wouldn’t accept money for no reason. But these 400,000 yuan were what Mu Yan deserved from every angle. Even if Lu Chong were to marry someone else one day, that money would still be deposited into his account without fail.
It wasn’t that Lu Chong didn’t want to give him this 100,000. In another three months, when the company started turning a profit, Lu Chong could give him a million if he wanted it.
Why did it have to be right now? The company wasn’t on the right track yet. Even if he swallowed his pride to borrow money from his partners in a personal capacity, why would they lend it to him?
“Why do you suddenly need so much money? Didn’t you have a sum specifically set aside for your mother’s dialysis?”
“There was,” the very thing Mu Yan was worried about was eventually asked by Lu Chong. “That card is 150,000 yuan in arrears. The hospital says that if the balance isn’t paid in full soon, she won’t be able to continue dialysis.”
“Why is there suddenly a 150,000 yuan deficit?”
Mu Yan lowered his eyes, his lips trembling slightly, but he couldn’t find the words for a long time.
Explaining all of this felt like a muddled, melodramatic play. It was as if every unfortunate event in the world had coincidentally stacked onto one protagonist simultaneously. Any spectator with a shred of intelligence would boo the stage and demand a refund.
Not to mention, this was actually happening to Mu Yan. It was real.
He remained silent for a long time, and Lu Chong began to lose his patience.
“Did Lin Guojun take the money you had stored in there?”
Mu Yan hadn’t expected him to guess it so directly. He turned his head to look at him in slight shock, then nodded gently.
It made sense; it wasn’t hard to guess. For a man like Lin Guojun, was this kind of behavior uncommon?
“What kind of thing is Lin Guojun? I told you long ago he was beyond saving. Once you’re addicted to gambling, you can’t quit for a lifetime. How did he get the money? Did he guess the password and swipe the card?”
Mu Yan nodded somewhat mechanically.
Lin Guojun was a stain Mu Yan was born with, one he could never escape.
He had changed his surname, got into a top high school in City A, and made it into A University. He did everything possible to take root in City A.
If it weren’t for the fact that his mother couldn’t travel too far, he would have taken her to the north, or further south, escaping as far away as possible.
But no matter how far he fled, the person he hated would still cling to him like a parasite.
His most loathed blemish was now being ruthlessly exposed in front of Lu Chong.
If there was one person he least wanted to know about his miserable and pathetic past, it was definitely Lu Chong.
Mu Yan’s nose felt a bit stingy. Resisting the urge to cry, he let out a soft “mm.”
“Lin Yi set the password for that card, didn’t he? What a matched pair of fools.”
