- Chapter 11 - I Will Not Marry an Omega
Jiang Lanyi was also startled, but upon seeing the person approaching, a smile immediately lit up his face. “Tang Yan.” Tang Yan was a junior in his department and the manager of the school swimming team, a sweet, soft, cupcake-type omega.
He was also the one who had once liked Xiao Chi but had quickly suffered a heartbreak and cried in Jiang Lanyi’s arms.
“Captain Jiang, I saw someone on the forum say they ran into you, so I wanted to try my luck. I did not expect you to really be here. Sob, why have you not been replying to our messages?” As Tang Yan spoke, his eyes turned red.
The forum he mentioned was the campus network forum. Xiao Chi used to frequent it to check for news, but now that he had graduated and his access had been revoked, he had forgotten that this channel even existed.
Jiang Lanyi was being questioned in a tone reserved for a heartless lover. Having done nothing unconscionable, he felt restless and uneasy. “I have been quite busy lately, so I have not really checked the group messages.”
“Really? We were all worried that something had happened to you. Song Zhaoyi even said he wanted to call the police.” Just as Tang Yan tried to move closer, he felt a cold, chilling gaze from the side.
He shuddered. The fragile instinct of an omega caused the tears brimming in his eyes to fall like a waterfall, and his body reflexively curled up in what he deemed the safest place: right beside Jiang Lanyi’s leg.
He had been too excited just now, focusing only on talking to Jiang Lanyi, and had not noticed there was someone else in the private room. Now, leaning against Jiang Lanyi with his safety ensured, he peeked over with a mix of fear and curiosity.
Ah! Xiao Chi! It is the real Xiao Chi! Why is Xiao Chi here? Did he kidnap Captain Jiang? Captain Jiang, blink your eyes if you are being forced.
“No, you…” Jiang Lanyi was choked up by the thoughts of the omega. Not daring to look at the expression on Xiao Chi’s face behind him, he braced himself and said, “Tang Yan, read less internet fiction.”
Xiao Chi’s voice came eerily. “So that is the image I have at the school swimming team.”
Jiang Lanyi had just finished a table full of food and was waiting to pay, looking forward to sitting in a luxury car and returning to his big apartment to sleep. He immediately denied it. “How could that be? You have always been of noble character, detached from the mundane world, and an unreachable flower.” Tang Yan was confused. “Captain Jiang, before, you said he looked down on people.”
The beta quickly covered the mouth of the omega, who thought he was whispering. However, an alpha’s five senses are excellent. Jiang Lanyi hurriedly put on a fake smile for Xiao Chi. “Children do not know any better.”
Darn kid! It was not because Xiao Chi rejected my hot pot recommendation that I said that to comfort him! Although, I must admit, I felt great when I was scolding him at the time.
Xiao Chi, having been praised three times and then insulted once, remained calm. His gaze swept over the hand Jiang Lanyi was using to cover Tang Yan’s mouth, and then he heard him whispering to the omega.
Suddenly, he felt bored. The boiled broccoli that had just tasted fresh and sweet now smelled like rotting vegetables soaked in too much vinegar.
“I am going to the restroom, and then I will wait for you in the car.”
The alpha left with a chilling air. The moment the door closed, the beta and the omega started chattering at the same time. “Wow, you scared me to death. I just thought I was going to be killed by his glare.” “Who told you to call him a dog to his face? Courage is the anthem of the omega.” “I have missed him day and night, but I have cursed him behind his back so many times that I could not help it.”
Tang Yan remembered his purpose and grabbed Jiang Lanyi’s hand. “Captain Jiang, are you really okay? Song Zhaoyi sent out hundreds of graduation red envelopes, and you did not grab any of them. You missed out on dozens of cups of coffee.”
Hundreds! Because there were people he did not want to see in the swimming team group, Jiang Lanyi had archived the chat the moment he left the Jiang family house and ignored all relevant individuals, fearing they would tip others off.
He had not expected to suffer such a heavy loss.
“Is the activity still going on?” Jiang Lanyi’s heart was bleeding. If it were normal red envelopes of one or two hundred, he would not care, but that fellow Song Zhaoyi always sent five hundred at a time, and every time he sent one, catching it meant a net profit of five hundred.
That is three to five times the daily wage of an intern.
Tang Yan shook his head. “Today is the last day. Next time, I will definitely make sure to notify you.”
A loss of a billion. Jiang Lanyi swallowed his anger and glanced at the time. “Fine. I have to go. I will definitely reply to you in the future. I really have not been able to get away lately.”
Is he leaving now? With Xiao Chi? Xiao Chi just said he would wait for him in the car.
Tang Yan was filled with worry. “Captain Jiang, do you not hate Xiao Chi the most? Why bother with him? Is he really threatening you?”
The little omega had a loose tongue. Fearing he would be tricked into revealing information, Jiang Lanyi downplayed it. “Do not spread rumors. Do I look like the kind of person who is easily threatened? I am doing just fine, do not worry.”
After agreeing to stay in touch with Tang Yan, Jiang Lanyi found Xiao Chi’s car in the parking lot. This time, however, both the front and back doors would not open.
He patted the window that he could not see through, unsure if there was anyone inside. Just as he was about to call Xiao Chi, the window rolled down and a can of air freshener was tossed out.
“I do not like the smell of flowers. Get yourself cleaned up before you come up.” The male voice inside was low, with a magnetic hoarseness.
Jiang Lanyi looked at the scent of the air freshener—it was woodsy—and sprayed himself thoroughly. “Sigh, you are an alpha, why are you being so petty with an omega?” He had thought Xiao Chi left in a rage because of the remark about him looking down on people.
After spraying almost half the bottle, Jiang Lanyi sniffed himself all over, ensuring there was no trace of hot pot left, before pulling the door handle. This time he succeeded, sat inside, and locked the door. Xiao Chi still had not moved.
Geometric shadows covered the upper half of the man’s body, almost merging with his black shirt. Under the collar with two unbuttoned buttons, the alpha’s skin was as white as snow.
“Are you… not feeling well right now?” Jiang Lanyi realized what was happening and reached out to check Xiao Chi’s forehead temperature with the back of his hand, but he was dodged. Xiao Chi took back the air freshener, his tone dull. “I thought you had forgotten.”
Forgotten that he had not fully emerged from his rut. Otherwise, how could he have allowed an omega to come in so casually?
Jiang Lanyi’s hand, stuck in mid-air, was a bit awkward. He let it drop to the side of the driver’s seat. “How about I drive and you take a rest? Tang Yan says my driving is very smooth.”
“Does he often ride in your car?” Xiao Chi sneered. “Where does he sit? In the passenger seat? Or on your lap?”
Just now, that person had squeezed right up to Jiang Lanyi. If Xiao Chi had not stopped him with a glare, that omega would likely have jumped right into Jiang Lanyi’s arms.
He has no sense of boundaries at all.
Jiang Lanyi looked at him silently for two seconds. “You are emotionally unstable right now, so I will not argue with you.” Xiao Chi’s face turned completely cold. “I am very stable.”
“Then Tang Yan is not in heat, his suppressant wristband is on tight, yet you just say one sentence and leave, and you are giving me the cold shoulder,” Jiang Lanyi frowned. It was a good thing Tang Yan did not like him anymore, otherwise, there is no telling how much he would have cried.
“Even if you want to avoid suspicion with omegas, does it have to be like this? Or is it because your engagement has already been decided, and the other party is strict?”
Xiao Chi laughed out of anger, but the laughter did not reach his eyes. “What do you mean, Jiang Lanyi? Do you think I am getting engaged to an omega? In your eyes, am I that kind of person?”
Jiang Lanyi did not know which nerve he had touched this time and was completely baffled. “Is it not normal for an alpha and an omega to get engaged? Every big family is like that.” “I am not like that,” Xiao Chi barked.
The air in the car suddenly froze. Jiang Lanyi’s fingers, which were resting on the back of the seat, curled twice, but he still touched Xiao Chi’s forehead. It was warm, slightly sweaty, but he had no fever.
Thinking that his neck had managed to escape disaster, Jiang Lanyi relaxed a bit. “If you say you are not like that, then you are not. Look at you getting all worked up.”
The softness on his forehead vanished as soon as it touched. Xiao Chi subconsciously chased after it, his elbows supporting himself on the center console. His shoulder leaned toward Jiang Lanyi, as if begging for a hug.
Jiang Lanyi remained completely unaware. “Although arranged marriages are often beyond one’s control, your uncle and aunt are very open-minded. If you communicate well with them…”
“I will not marry an omega. I hate omegas,” Xiao Chi said in a low voice.
Jiang Lanyi had not even had the chance to say that this was sexist, when Xiao Chi lowered his dark eyelashes and murmured as if to himself, “In the future, I only want to marry a beta.”
