The Beauty with Terrible Luck Falls in Love with a Ghost - Chapter 37
They had somehow found sticks and ropes, trussing up Zuo Lihua like a pig with her limbs pointing skyward. Two ghosts carried her as they moved.
“Where are you taking me?” Zuo Lihua hurriedly asked.
Lifting her gaze, she saw a gaping, blood-red mouth grinning at her. Zuo Lihua froze for a moment before the infant ghost squeezed past the large mouth, leaped onto her body, and stepped on her neck. Its hollow, pitch-black eyes stared fixedly at her before it let out a soft chuckle: “Your companions didn’t dare speak to us, they just screamed and wailed. So annoying. But the demon cat’s bride is different.”
Where the ghost stepped felt like two blocks of ice pressed against her skin, piercingly cold and unbearably heavy. Zuo Lihua immediately felt worse, her breathing growing labored. As time passed, each breath became a strain on her windpipe.
A lanky ghost slapped the infant ghost away. “You’re going to crush her to death.”
Freed from the weight, Zuo Lihua felt somewhat better, though her heart pounded fiercely, as if trying to leap out of her chest. She quickly regulated her breathing while carefully listening to the little ghosts’ movements.
The infant ghost scrambled up, glaring venomously at the lanky ghost. “If she doesn’t die now, she’ll die later. What’s the difference?”
The large-mouthed ghost walking ahead, carrying a load, mumbled incoherently but stubbornly insisted, “N-Not… not the same. Not, not, not… fresh… not fresh.”
Zuo Lihua’s heart raced with fear, uncertain whether the “cat” they referred to was Han Hai’er’s long-haired ragdoll cat.
But soon, her doubts were dispelled.
She was carried into a spacious basement, where a white candle burned in each of the four corners. The flames flickered and danced, occasionally emitting a sizzling sound.
In the center of the room lay a long-haired ragdoll cat. Zuo Lihua looked up at it, and the cat gazed back, its gem-like eyes reflecting the candlelight as if ablaze.
The large-mouthed ghost mumbled, “P-Person… b-brought…”
Then, a piercing cat’s cry erupted, accompanied by an angry shout: “Get out!”
Two voices emerged from one mouth, an indescribable eeriness.
The little ghosts scrambled and fled for their lives, tumbling over one another in their haste to escape.
After the commotion, the vast, dim room fell silent once more.
“What’s going on?” Zuo Lihua asked.
Han Hai’er didn’t answer. She stepped down from the platform, her neck held high, her paw pads softly tapping the concrete floor, exuding an air of noble elegance.
She approached Zuo Lihua, first closing her eyes and sniffing like a real cat, as if confirming her scent. Then, she tilted her head and rubbed vigorously against Zuo Lihua’s side.
The silk-like smooth fur brushed against her skin, making Zuo Lihua itch. She tried to pull away but couldn’t, bound as she was.
Just as she was about to ask Han Hai’er to untie her, the ropes loosened and snapped apart a second before she could speak.
Then, a soft, fluffy cat nestled into her arms.
“Han Hai’er?”
The cat’s tail swished lazily against Zuo Lihua’s leg. Han Hai’er let out a yawn, her voice drowsy. “Don’t talk. Let me sleep for a while. I’m tired… so sleepy.”
Cats are willful little creatures, and even Han Hai’er, trapped in a cat’s body, was no exception. Thus, she imperiously declared her intention to sleep, paying no heed to anyone else’s thoughts, and closed her eyes, drifting into a deep slumber.
Zuo Lihua was still a bit dazed. She carefully examined the cat in her arms. By the candlelight, she noticed traces of blood between its paw pads, and its fur was somewhat dirty. Long-haired cats tend to look messy if not properly groomed.
So, did it get into a fight with the original resident ghost?
And won, becoming the boss here?
Lost in thought, Zuo Lihua stood up, walked to the corner, and sat down against the wall. She adjusted her posture to let Han Hai’er sleep more comfortably.
Perhaps exhausted, the cat in her arms remained motionless, with no rise and fall of breath, only its body felt soft.
In truth, what she was holding was a dead cat.
Whether it was the overwhelming silence around her or the sense of security Han Hai’er in her arms provided, she stared at the flickering candle flame and soon fell asleep herself.
…
In her daze, she felt something pressing against her leg, cold, slippery, not forceful but undeniably dominant. She couldn’t move.
Something furry, quite large, was nuzzling against her neck, tickling her.
Zuo Lihua struggled to open her eyes and was met with a pair of deep blue eyes, like the ocean.
She froze for a moment, her mind instantly alert. “You’ve changed back?” she asked, her tone carrying an unconscious delight.
The next moment, her breath was stolen. Those jelly-like lips seemed enchanted, invading her territory, conquering and plundering. She was utterly defenseless, collapsing at the first encounter.
Han Hai’er asked her, “Are you cold?”
Zuo Lihua couldn’t quite grasp it, what could she do about the cold? Han Hai’er was just a ghost; how could she possibly warm her up?
She thought it and voiced it aloud.
In response, Han Hai’er held her tightly, pressing her into an embrace as she kissed her.
At some point, the floor had transformed, becoming like a soft, gaseous substance that steadily supported Zuo Lihua, preventing her from falling.
Her calves were held firmly, but Zuo Lihua paid no mind. She followed her instincts, wrapping her arms around the presence before her, cool strands of hair brushing through her fingers.
Suddenly, her hand grasped something soft and furry.
Sensing something amiss, Zuo Lihua glanced over with hazy eyes. When she realized what it was, she burst into laughter.
This earned her a glare filled with warning.
But the eyes glaring at her were glistening with moisture, the corners tinged with a deep allure. It looked more like a coquettish pout than anything remotely intimidating.
Han Hai’er, now sporting two fluffy cat ears, whispered sternly, “Don’t laugh!”
“Hahaha, sorry…” Zuo Lihua covered her mouth. “I won’t laugh anymore, ahem, no more laughing.” Yet her attempt to conceal her emotions was far from skillful, even with her mouth covered, her mirth still spilled from the curve of her eyes.
She tried her best to rein in her expression, but as she caught her breath, her gaze couldn’t help drifting toward Han Hai’er’s head.
“I’ve been too gentle with you,” Han Hai’er gritted her teeth.
“Huh?” Zuo Lihua was startled. “Not huh… Mmm~”
“Really want to see?”
“…”
“Tell the truth.”
“I do…” Zuo Lihua nodded meekly.
Han Hai’er smirked mischievously, lifting Zuo Lihua up so she was higher than her head, allowing her to look down directly at her ears.
“Want to touch them?”
Zuo Lihua’s body still felt a bit weak. She knew that Han Hai’er, this little devil, was definitely up to no good, but the fluffy ears in front of her were too tempting. Despite her reluctance, she couldn’t resist and reached out her hand.
After all, cat girls weren’t something you encountered every day. With such large cat ears offering a chance to pet them, who wouldn’t be mesmerized?
The vast, silent basement was filled with soft whimpers.
“Easy to grab, feels nice, huh?”
“Mmm…”
“Should I stop?”
“Mmm, st-stop… no more…”
“I’ll stop when you let go.”
“…Eek, sob sob…”
“…Then we’ll continue.”
