The Beauty with Terrible Luck Falls in Love with a Ghost - Chapter 34
“I really didn’t mean to! What else could I do? I’m just a worker! Workers need to earn money!”
Han Hai’er scoffed and turned her head away. “What does that have to do with me?”
“How is it not related?!” Zuo Lihua widened her eyes, looking at her in disbelief. “If I have money, I can buy you pretty little dresses! Delicious snacks, fun toys! I can even fill up the car and take us to all kinds of haunted sacred sites for extra meals!”
Han Hai’er’s pupils dilated slightly.
Seeing an opportunity, Zuo Lihua pressed on, “Anything within my financial means, we can do whatever you want!”
“You mean,” Han Hai’er raised a paw and then set it down, “we can buy toys?”
“Ah…”
“Then buy them.”
“Okay, sure.” Seeing the crisis had passed, Zuo Lihua quickly seized the chance to ease the tension and pulled out her phone. “What do you want to buy?”
The cat leaned in closer. “Adult…”
Zuo Lihua’s hand trembled, immediately understanding what Han Hai’er meant, and gave her an indescribable look.
“This one, this one, and this one isn’t bad either.” Han Hai’er picked out items with great enthusiasm, her pupils dilated with excitement, the tip of her tail happily swishing back and forth.
Zuo Lihua really wanted to ask her, “What can a cat even do?” But the words lingered on the tip of her tongue, and she ultimately held them back.
What if Han Hai’er decided to cause trouble for her again? This ghost was countless times harder to placate than she had imagined.
At this moment, those items were no longer just [beep] toys, they were her saviors!
After placing the order, Zuo Lihua breathed a sigh of relief and prepared to go out and help the others clean up the house. Just then, Han Hai’er spoke up: “So, you’re saying the reason you threw me away was because the director told you to, right?”
“…” Zuo Lihua replied, “I didn’t throw you away.”
“The director, huh?” Han Hai’er narrowed her cat-like eyes, a hint of murderous intent flickering within them. “Let’s go kill him tonight.”
Zuo Lihua: “???”
Zuo Lihua: “!!!”
Zuo Lihua expended an immense amount of effort, using every persuasive trick in the book until her lips nearly wore out, just barely managing to save the innocent director’s life.
In return, Zuo Lihua had to stay within her line of sight at all times, and for the duration of the program filming, as long as it didn’t conflict with the show’s intended effects, she had to obey her every command.
Zuo Lihua was filled with grief and indignation, but it was useless.
Han Hai’er was a neat freak.
After inhabiting the cat’s body, unable to dematerialize, her obsession with cleanliness grew even more severe.
Their room was on the second floor, while the entire first floor and courtyard remained uncleaned, covered in a thick layer of dust that could practically suffocate someone. Han Hai’er was utterly disgusted, yet she still insisted on following Zuo Lihua outside. Left with no choice, Zuo Lihua fashioned a makeshift sling bag out of a towel provided by the production team, carrying Han Hai’er inside it wherever she went.
Jiang Pingcheng noticed and came over to chat with her, holding a broom in his hand. “Lihua, why are you carrying the cat around… What kind of bag is that? The fabric looks so trendy!”
Zuo Lihua scratched the back of her head sheepishly. “My cat is just really clingy.”
“Are all Ragdolls this clingy? Then how do you manage work? You can’t just carry it around everywhere.” Jiang Pingcheng looked worried. If that were the case, he wouldn’t be able to get a Ragdoll.
Zuo Lihua quickly defended the breed. “Not all Ragdolls are like this. Mine is an exception, and I’ve only had her for a short while. Once she gets used to it, she won’t be like this anymore.”
As she spoke, she continued with her tasks. “Brother Jiang, could you help me lift this? I need to clean underneath.”
Jiang Pingcheng helped her lift the table. The heavy solid wood table was no easy feat, and Zuo Lihua strained with all her might, her face turning red from the effort, barely managing to lift it as they moved it aside together.
Once the table was set down, her palms ached, red and sore.
She didn’t pay it much mind, after all, physical labor required strength, and even felt that her own strength was lacking.
Jiang Pingcheng leaned on the table, panting heavily. “Not bad! Most people wouldn’t be able to lift this. Be honest with me, do you secretly work out with weights?”
“Brother Jiang, don’t tease me. I’m practically exhausted.”
Han Hai’er let out a yawn and lifted her head, her view constantly shifting as Zuo Lihua moved around.
Her sapphire-blue eyes scanned the people Zuo Lihua referred to as “colleagues” one by one, finally settling on a familiar figure as it slowly approached.
Jiang Pingcheng, seeing her expression, thought she was about to stir up trouble and gave Han Youyou a slight smile without saying anything. Han Youyou remained silent as well, while Zuo Lihua, busy wiping the floor under the table, had no idea someone had approached from behind.
Han Youyou stared at Han Hai’er, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. As if guided by some unseen force, she reached out toward the cat.
Just as her fingers were about to make contact, the Ragdoll cat bared its teeth and hissed at her.
She jerked her hand back as if electrocuted, taking half a step backward. Zuo Lihua, hearing the commotion, turned around.
“Youyou?” Zuo Lihua said in surprise. “What are you doing here? You walked over without making a sound.”
Han Youyou clutched her hand, her expression a mix of shock and uncertainty. Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought she’d been scratched by the cat, but Zuo Lihua knew better than anyone that Han Hai’er hadn’t touched her, not because she didn’t want to, but for some reason, she couldn’t.
Is she trying to frame me?… Zuo Lihua suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Unexpectedly, Han Youyou didn’t do that. She took a quick breath, her chest heaving noticeably, and whispered, “N-no, it’s nothing!” With that, she ran off without looking back.
Zuo Lihua tilted her head, puzzled.
Jiang Pingcheng was also confused and asked, “Did you bully her?”
“How would I dare?”
“Then what’s wrong with her?”
“No idea. I was just cleaning.”
Jiang Pingcheng shrugged. “No clue.”
Neither of them could figure it out, so they soon parted ways and continued cleaning.
