The Beauty with Terrible Luck Falls in Love with a Ghost - Chapter 21.2
She struggled to her feet, leaning against the wall, and shuffled step by step toward the bathroom.
She stayed in the bathroom for half an hour, so long that Han Hai’er began to suspect she might have died in there and went to knock on the door, phone in hand.
“I’m fine,” Zuo Lihua replied weakly, her voice barely audible through the glass door. “I just can’t stand up.”
Then, to Zuo Lihua’s horror, Han Hai’er opened the door.
“What are you doing?” Zuo Lihua’s pale face flushed with alarm.
A familiar phone was tossed into her lap, and she heard Han Hai’er growl, “Shut up.”
By the time she was placed back on the bed, Zuo Lihua felt dazed.
A few minutes later, as if finally processing what had happened, she pulled the nearby blanket over her head, her cheeks burning hot.
Ugh… I can’t face anyone! No, I can’t face a ghost!
She never would have dreamed that this ghost, this fierce ghost, this menace who constantly threatened her life, would actually help her with something like this!
Though her attitude was as terrible as ever, with fierce threats like, “If you don’t cooperate, I’ll twist your bones and stuff them down the toilet!”, her actions were…
This just didn’t make any sense!
You really do see something new the longer you live!
Zuo Lihua was so deeply immersed in her embarrassment, wishing she could find a crack in the ground to hide in, that she didn’t even notice when Han Hai’er disappeared.
“Hey.” A hand poked her head through the blanket.
Zuo Lihua didn’t react.
“Tch.” The owner of the hand grew impatient and, with a force no ordinary person could resist, tore Zuo Lihua out from under the covers.
A steaming cup of water and two small white pills appeared before her.
“Drink it,” Han Hai’er said with a scowl.
Zuo Lihua obediently took them, first taking a small sip of water, then lifting her eyes to gaze pitifully at Han Hai’er. “What is this?” she asked, referring to the white pills.
Had she finally had enough? Was she going to poison her?
“Painkillers,” Han Hai’er replied irritably, her brows deeply furrowed.
For the second time, Zuo Lihua’s expression looked as if she’d seen a ghost.
“Should I force them down your throat?” Han Hai’er threatened again when Zuo Lihua didn’t drink.
Zuo Lihua raised her hand, tossed the pills into her mouth, took a gulp of water, and swallowed.
Oh my god, a ghost is taking care of someone! The sun must be rising in the west! Zuo Lihua screamed inwardly, though her face remained expressionless.
“Alright, go back to sleep. Today’s a special case, you’re on break. You can sleep like a pig.”
Zuo Lihua shook her head and asked, “Why do you have painkillers?”
Han Hai’er looked at her as if she were an idiot. “I ordered them using your phone.”
Zuo Lihua grew even more confused. “How did you know my password?”
Han Hai’er gave a fake smile. “Guess.”
Zuo Lihua: “?”
Something flashed through her mind, and Zuo Lihua quickly grasped the tail of the memory.
Yesterday… it seemed… someone had asked for her password, and she’d mumbled it in her daze.
Mystery solved, Zuo Lihua breathed a sigh of relief.
That had scared her, she’d thought their minds were connected.
Thank goodness they weren’t!
…
Zuo Lihua woke up from hunger. When she opened her eyes, everything around her was pitch black. It took her two or three seconds to realize it was nighttime, and she reached out to turn on the light.
Her stomach felt much better and didn’t hurt anymore. The painkillers had worked well.
Her health wasn’t great, she often had menstrual cramps. Back in school, painkillers were a regular part of her life, but over time, she’d built up a tolerance. Who knew that after so many years without them, they’d work again?
Beside her, the sound of fingers tapping on a screen, “tap, tap, tap, tap”, continued. She turned her head and saw Han Hai’er still leaning against the headboard in the same position, tapping away at “Three Goats.”
…Could she still not have passed the level?
She thought blankly.
Is the game that hard?
How’s the ghost’s mood now? Is she getting frustrated? Is it wise to talk to her right now?
If only she’d slept through it, why did she have to wake up!
In her daze, all sorts of thoughts flashed through Zuo Lihua’s mind.
Until her eyes met Han Hai’er’s.
“……” Zuo Lihua didn’t dare breathe loudly, didn’t dare pretend to be asleep. She carefully sat up halfway, leaning against the headboard, and didn’t dare turn on the nightlight.
Click! The nightlight was switched on, brightening the room considerably.
Though it was brighter, the light was soft and didn’t hurt her eyes.
Han Hai’er withdrew her hand and said coldly, “Did you sleep yourself stupid?”
“No, I’m awake now.” Having slept for too long, Zuo Lihua’s voice was a bit hoarse.
“If you’re awake, then get up and move around. You’re too weak.”
Zuo Lihua: “……”
Alright, alright! This was already the third time today she’d been told she was weak! She really got it now, no need to say it again!
“What level is this?” Zuo Lihua tentatively asked.
“Level two.”
Seeing Han Hai’er’s expression remain unchanged, Zuo Lihua added, “It’s this difficult, huh.”
“Hah!” Han Hai’er let out a cold laugh, her gaze shifting from the screen to the wall ahead, filled with intense killing intent. “I suspect this game doesn’t even have a third level.”
“……” Zuo Lihua shrank her neck, not daring to speak anymore.
“If you’re awake, get up and move around. Can’t you understand human speech?” Han Hai’er began to vent her temper randomly.
“Getting up now!” Zuo Lihua scrambled to her feet.
Her feet touched the ground without any discomfort.
If there was any slight unease, it was a bit of soreness in a certain place.
Not period cramps, but friction pain.
But it wasn’t important, and she didn’t want the female ghost to know about it.
“I’m going to find something to eat,” Zuo Lihua said, dragging her slippers as she opened the door and walked out.
She came down the stairs, and the huge floor-to-ceiling window caught her attention.
The curtains weren’t drawn, and through the glass, the moon was clearly visible.
Zuo Lihua paused, standing on the stairs in a daze for a couple of seconds.
Then she quickened her pace, walked to the window, and looked up at the moon.
The city she lived in had no moon.
As soon as night fell, the entire city was enveloped in lights, and looking up, all she could see were colorful neon signs.
Zuo Lihua felt a slight stir in her heart, her pink pupils tinged with a faint silver under the moonlight.
Her neck grew sore, so she lowered her head, catching a glimpse of the sofa piled high with things out of the corner of her eye.
When she had walked over earlier, she had been so focused on the moon that she hadn’t even noticed these.
She fumbled for the switch on the wall and turned on the light.
The sudden brightness made her squint.
After a moment, her vision refocused.
On the beige sofa, there was an out-of-place, large plastic shopping bag, its opening facing upward. It looked like it had been casually placed there, stuffed full and seemingly heavy. She could vaguely make out stacked red boxes inside.
Puzzled, Zuo Lihua walked over and pulled it closer to take a look.
It was all medicine, various kinds of medicine, with the most conspicuous being the donkey-hide gelatin placed on top.
What is this?
Zuo Lihua grew even more confused. She took out the donkey-hide gelatin and continued rummaging through the bag.
There were Qi-tonifying pills, Ten Complete Great Tonic pills, blood-nourishing oral liquid, black chicken oral liquid, rose black sugar, and so on, a whole messy pile. At the very bottom, she even found a pack of dried red dates and black sesame seeds. All the items stacked up were about half her height.
Zuo Lihua was dumbfounded.
No way… She lifted her head to look toward the staircase.
It was unlit there, pitch black, as if it could swallow someone whole.
She hadn’t placed the order, so there was no need to say who did.
So, it turns out she’s a ghost with a hidden housewife attribute?
Zuo Lihua shuddered.
Too terrifying! She refused to think about it any further.
