The Beauty with Terrible Luck Falls in Love with a Ghost - Chapter 18
Upon hearing this, Han Hai’er didn’t even lift an eyelid. She stepped into the room and lazily flopped onto the bed. “What is it?”
Zuo Lihua lowered her eyelashes. “I’m going back to work tomorrow, so I have to go out.”
Han Hai’er followed her in and sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her curiously. “What does a big star like you usually do?”
“How should I put it…” Zuo Lihua frowned, trying to find the right words. She did a lot of things, but it could all be summarized in three words: be on camera. But if she said it like that to Han Hai’er, she would definitely be completely confused…
Before she could finish, Han Hai’er declared decisively, “I’m going too.”
“Ah.” The jumbled words Zuo Lihua was halfway through forming were instantly deleted, her face going blank.
Han Hai’er added, “No one can see me except you.” That naturally included Ning Dongbang.
“Oh…” In that case, it was fine. Zuo Lihua nodded.
That night, Zuo Lihua was spared from being tormented for a change. In Han Hai’er’s words, she was already full and needed to lie down quietly to digest her meal, so Zuo Lihua should just bear with it herself and not disturb her.
Zuo Lihua was speechless. “…” Who was the one who needed to bear with it?!
Zuo Lihua was screaming internally, but her expression remained serene. Forget it, she thought. Why should a living person argue with a ghost?
Early the next morning, a commercial van pulled up in front of Zuo Lihua’s villa.
Five minutes later, Zuo Lihua walked out of the villa dressed in a lavender-striped tracksuit, her figure tall and straight, looking sharp and spirited.
“Sister Lihua! I finally get to see you! I missed you so much, boo-hoo-hoo…” The van door slid open with a swoosh, and Sun Xiaoyang shot out as if her butt was on fire. She rushed to Zuo Lihua’s side in two or three steps, wailing dramatically.
“What’s wrong?” Zuo Lihua asked, adjusting the brim of her matching baseball cap with its lavender-striped trim.
“Huh?” Sun Xiaoyang glanced at Zuo Lihua in confusion, then said, “A family member got sick, and the situation was pretty urgent. I didn’t have time to ask you for leave in person. Brother Ning said he’d tell you for me.”
“Is your family member doing better?” Zuo Lihua looked at her.
Sun Xiaoyang met her gaze for a second before quickly looking away, two faint blushes appearing on her cheeks. “It’s… it’s fine now. My dad’s surgery was a success.”
As they spoke, the two of them got into the van.
This time, Zuo Lihua didn’t sit by the window. Instead, she moved further in, leaving an empty seat, and continued speaking to Sun Xiaoyang. “A family illness is a serious matter. If you need to be there for them, just ask for leave. I’ll approve a month of paid vacation for you.”
Sun Xiaoyang gasped.
Boo-hoo-hoo, what other boss is as good as my goddess! She had heard that some other celebrity, while filming on a hot day, made their assistant go stand in a corner as punishment just because the ice in their milk tea had melted on the way. It was so unreasonable!
“Sister Lihua, you’re so nice, really.” Sun Xiaoyang said, her eyes welling with tears of gratitude. “They don’t need me back home. My older sister is taking care of things.”
“That’s good.” Zuo Lihua nodded, then changed the subject. “In the future, if you need to ask for leave for an emergency, you can just call or text me. Don’t bother Brother Ning. He has a lot on his plate and is very busy.”
“Okay, got it!” Sun Xiaoyang sniffled. “But Sister Lihua, did you know? Brother Ning signed a new actress. I heard that when we go to the company later, it’s to talk to you about this and introduce that girl to you.”
Zuo Lihua replied, “Yes, I heard about that too.”
“Yeah, yeah, they say she’s a great beauty, but definitely not as pretty as our Sister Lihua. But she seems to have some serious backing. Brother Ning signed her personally!”
Glancing at Han Hai’er, who had been sitting beside her quietly looking out the window since they got in the van, Zuo Lihua tapped her chin thoughtfully.
“Do you know her name?” Zuo Lihua asked suddenly.
“Huh?” Sun Xiaoyang paused for a moment, then immediately understood that Zuo Lihua was asking about the newly signed artist. “Han Youyou, I think? Here, she looks like this!” She fumbled for her phone and held the screen up for Zuo Lihua.
The girl on the screen gave off a fragile and delicate impression. Upon closer inspection, her features were all small and dainty. With a sharp chin and exquisitely made-up eyes, she stared at the screen, her long, cyan-blue hair cascading down, making her look all the more pitiful and lovely.
Zuo Lihua froze. She had met this girl once before, she was the one on Huang Gu’s arms the day they were slapping themselves.
How could it be… Just as Zuo Lihua was thinking, she suddenly felt a chill from her side. She turned her head to see that Han Hai’er had, at some point, moved closer. Her eyes were glued to the screen, black mist churning across her face, which flickered between pale white and dark black.
She looked exactly as she had the first time Zuo Lihua saw her.
Zuo Lihua’s eyelid twitched. She suddenly had a very bad feeling.
Sure enough, Han Hai’er immediately began to move.
The fair skin on her arms vanished, reverting to thin, stick-like limbs. Her joints twisted at an impossible angle as she pushed off the seat, hoisting her body into the air. Like a black widow spider, she began to crawl out using both her hands and feet.
Zuo Lihua: “…”
Zuo Lihua: “!!!”
