The Beauty Said She Has A Secret Crush On Me - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Zhuang Lu, looking at Wu Nianxi’s distant smile and obvious rejection, was reminded of Teacher Wang’s appearance, then thought of Teacher Zhang, and finally, Lin Daiyu. For the first time, a very strange emotion arose in her heart. She didn’t know what it was and didn’t delve into it. She walked straight over, her large figure squeezing between the two people. She addressed Wu Nianxi very chivalrously, “Study Committee member, do you need help?”
Wu Nianxi looked at Zhuang Lu with her moist eyes in confusion. She and Zhuang Lu had never had much interaction, apart from reminders about papers and homework notifications.
Zhuang Lu didn’t explain. She directly took a large stack of homework from Wu Nianxi’s arms. It was their class’s weekly English homework, which was supposed to be delivered to the new office building.
Zhuang Lu had already reached the stairwell when she realized Wu Nianxi hadn’t followed. “Aren’t you coming?” Zhuang Lu’s tone was calm and flat, with a hint of domineering authority.
Wu Nianxi looked at Zhuang Lu with deeper scrutiny in her eyes. She casually dismissed the boy who was chasing her with a few words and then quickly followed Zhuang Lu.
Since they weren’t familiar with each other, they walked the entire way to the new office building in silence. Walking into the English teacher’s office, Zhuang Lu waited outside for Wu Nianxi. Through the office building’s large floor-to-ceiling window, she saw Wen Zhuo in the distance. He was sitting on the lawn by the first plaza outside the new office building, scrolling on his iPad. Today, he was wearing a black baseball jacket, and his long legs, encased in jeans, were casually stretched out on the grass. He was wearing a hat.
As soon as Wu Nianxi walked out of the office, she followed Zhuang Lu’s gaze and saw Wen Zhuo on the lawn. She knew Wen Zhuo. A senior who shared a dorm with Wen Zhuo, named Lin Yun, had been pursuing her since her freshman year, and he could be considered the most persistent of her admirers. Throughout this lengthy process, Wu Nianxi came to know Wen Zhuo.
It is said that good-looking people hang out with other good-looking people, but the relationship between Wu Nianxi and Wen Zhuo wasn’t particularly good. She keenly sensed something unusual beneath Wen Zhuo’s handsome exterior—that he was one of her kind.
Wu Nianxi walked up and stood beside Zhuang Lu, the stark contrast between them—one fat, one thin, one tall, one short—being obvious.
“Do you like Wen Zhuo?” Wu Nianxi asked.
Zhuang Lu wasn’t particularly emotionally intelligent and didn’t understand the difference between liking someone in a romantic way and simply liking good-looking food. She spoke candidly without any hesitation. “Yes, yes, he looks good no matter how you look at him.”
“How can you like him?”
Zhuang Lu’s face immediately fell, and her eyes turned cold. “What do you mean?”
Wu Nianxi looked at Zhuang Lu, her gaze devoid of any condescension, only confusion, and a gentle, hard-to-read emotion. Her eyes were different from everyone else’s, and this gaze allowed Zhuang Lu’s guard to drop slightly.
“My question was inappropriate,” Wu Nianxi gently explained. “Many people like him, after all, he is handsome.”
Zhuang Lu nodded in agreement and casually improvised a little ditty: “Young and just grown, so dashing and effortlessly cool. Beautiful as a piece of jade.” In the sunlight, Wen Zhuo’s profile was even more attractive, his features distinct, his gaze gentle. She didn’t know what he was looking at on the iPad, but a shallow smile crossed his lips.
Wu Nianxi nodded, her eyes still moist but with an underlying sharpness. She suddenly reached out, pulled Zhuang Lu’s face toward her, and gave her a sufficiently brilliant smile. Her eyes gently curved, and the dimples at the corners of her mouth were like whirlpools, extremely eye-catching.
The close-range assault of beauty made Zhuang Lu gasp. She was almost intoxicated by those two small dimples. The vitality of winter fading and all things recovering surged in the eyes of the beauty Wu, and Zhuang Lu felt like she had drunk an entire cellar of wine, about to be lost to the world, lost in this vibrant spirit.
“Do I look good?”
Zhuang Lu nodded reflexively.
Wu Nianxi stopped smiling. The corners of her mouth no longer turned up, and the dimples disappeared. Although her usual attire was very innocent, her inherent temperament was cold. Without a smile, she resembled an Ice Beauty.
“Don’t go liking him. It won’t have a good outcome. The way you treat Tao Ru is good; you won’t get hurt.”
“What do you mean?” Zhuang Lu tilted her head, not understanding. What outcome was needed for admiring a heartthrob?
Wu Nianxi remained silent.
“You’re very strange.” Zhuang Lu waited for a long time but didn’t get an answer from Wu Nianxi, so she turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, the corner of Wu Nianxi’s top got caught on Zhuang Lu’s backpack. Her small frame was immediately yanked, making her stumble a few steps. Zhuang Lu quickly turned sideways and hugged Wu Nianxi with her other arm. “Do you have something else to say?”
Wu Nianxi shook her head blankly. Zhuang Lu helped Wu Nianxi stand straight. Seeing her moist eyes in a daze, Zhuang Lu actually squinted and patted Wu Nianxi’s head. The girl is too petite, and her eyes are like a fawn’s—I couldn’t help it!
After patting her head, Zhuang Lu strode away.
“She’s fat, but she knows how to flirt!” Wu Nianxi frowned and muttered.
By the time Zhuang Lu walked out of the new office building, Wen Zhuo was nowhere to be seen. Wu Nianxi followed behind her, carefully observing Zhuang Lu’s expression, but couldn’t find a trace of disappointment. She was momentarily stunned.
Then she heard Zhuang Lu wave to her in a carefree manner, “I’m heading back to the dorm. Bye-bye.”
“Aren’t you going to look for Wen Zhuo?” Wu Nianxi’s eyes were wide, making Zhuang Lu think of a cute little bunny.
Zhuang Lu, without a care in the world, looked around. “I don’t see him.”
Wu Nianxi frowned, confused. “Then you could contact him, say you saw him, and then casually ask where he is.”
Zhuang Lu chuckled. “That’s so weird. If I saw him, I saw him, why would I specifically tell him?”
Now it was Wu Nianxi’s turn to be puzzled. Many people pursued her, but she had never been in a relationship. Yet, surely, liking someone wasn’t supposed to be like this, even though Zhuang Lu had admitted to liking him. Wu Nianxi was stunned.
A beauty frowning was still beautiful. Being stared at so intently by the beautiful Wu made Zhuang Lu feel a bit embarrassed. Her ear tips were slightly red. “Don’t frown! Don’t be angry! Others will think I bullied you.”
She walked over and immediately put an arm around Wu Nianxi’s shoulder. “I’ll treat you to something to eat. What do you want?”
Wu Nianxi was led forward by Zhuang Lu. She looked up at Zhuang Lu’s smiling eyes. “I’ll treat you. Thank you for helping me out and taking the homework today.”
“You’re welcome, you’re welcome. It’s because you look like Lin Daiyu, so beautiful.”
Hearing this, Wu Nianxi felt a warmth in her heart for some unknown reason. She found Zhuang Lu quite interesting. Usually cold and indifferent, she was even a little worried about Zhuang Lu. The world had too many expectations for beauty and too much discrimination against ugliness. This gap was terribly huge, permeating everyone and every corner.
But when she saw Zhuang Lu unreservedly eating a large chicken steak, and smoothly tripping a boy to the ground, she felt her worries were unnecessary.
The boy walked away cursing. Wu Nianxi sighed. “You can’t control what other people say. There are so many people, so many mouths. Actually, if you dislike it so much, maybe you could try losing weight? I…”
“Stop, stop.” Zhuang Lu walked forward continuously, biting into the chicken steak.
The sentence “I have experience and I can help you,” which was interrupted by Zhuang Lu, could only be swallowed back by Wu Nianxi.
“Why so nosy,” Wu Nianxi muttered to herself, her mind already back to normal. When she caught up, Zhuang Lu was already holding two skewers of grilled miàn jīn (wheat gluten).
She didn’t seem unhappy at all and handed a skewer of grilled miàn jīn to Wu Nianxi. “The grilled miàn jīn here is absolutely amazing! Look at this wonderful food, how can you give it up?” She smiled again. “Besides, I don’t think being fat should be a source of shame. Why should I be ashamed?
Living earnestly and eating happily are both beautiful expressions. Why should I feel I am fat, need to lose weight, or despise my current self?”
Zhuang Lu looked at the gentle, delicate, and shy Miss Bunny in front of her. She unconsciously softened her tone. “What that boy just said wasn’t necessarily an insult to me, but he was certainly verbally provoking me, and my retaliation was just enough to match his provocation. That is repaying wrong with directness. I don’t know why you feel that I should bear what he did wrong, and that I shouldn’t choose to fight back.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Study Committee member, your eyes are very clear, unlike some people who often talk down to me patronizingly, saying that a woman who can’t even control her own body, how can she control her own life? That’s actually fake inspirational talk. I don’t understand when controlling one’s life became based on body shape, and the term ‘controlling life’ itself is flawed. How can life be controlled? And why should self-worth be based solely on body shape?”
Zhuang Lu spoke a large amount unhurriedly, and then regretted it. “Why did I tell you all that?” She looked at the beautiful Wu and smiled again, saying, “Study Committee member, just pretend I was just letting off steam. Thank you for the chicken steak. I’m going back to the dorm.”
Wu Nianxi stood rooted to the spot, holding a skewer of grilled miàn jīn, watching Zhuang Lu slowly walk away, eating her chicken steak. Her body, vast as a hill, was not clumsy, and her back radiated vigorous vitality and powerful spirit. She lowered her eyes, staring at the grilled miàn jīn. It had been many, many years since she had eaten such high-calorie food. Memories of her past flooded her mind, painful recollections that seemed to force her to fall helplessly to the ground, yet her feet did not give way. She bit her lip, a look of stubbornness on her face.
Wu Nianxi, with her naturally gifted body and looks, had a secret a past she had locked away.
