The Beauty Said She Has A Secret Crush On Me - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Huang Yutian hooked up with Brother Yan a year ago. A year ago, she had pretty features but was quite unsophisticated. She fell in with some unsavory friends and was persuaded to seduce Brother Yan. Brother Yan had seen countless beauties and naturally wasn’t interested in Huang Yutian.
However, based on the allure of her being a high-achieving Beijing University student and a virgin, he handed Huang Yutian over to Sister Hong. Sister Hong, a beauty who frequented glamorous venues, refined Huang Yutian. She started wearing designer brands, applied delicate makeup, and her overall demeanor changed significantly.
Furthermore, Huang Yutian’s inherently delicate and overly dramatic personality actually suited Brother Yan’s interests.
Taking the view that meat that came to him shouldn’t be wasted, Brother Yan thoroughly enjoyed Huang Yutian. He typically discarded women after a few months, but Huang Yutian was different—she cheated on Brother Yan first. After peeling the other man off Huang Yutian, he punched him right out the door.
Song Shan immediately dragged the man away, and Brother Yan looked at Huang Yutian, who raised her neck like a swan without a shred of embarrassment. For the first time, he felt an urge to fiercely dominate someone.
This urge lasted until today. The initially slightly haughty Huang Yutian had been dominated into a mouse who was terrified and couldn’t move when she saw Brother Yan. Looking at Huang Yutian slowly inching towards him, a wave of irritation washed over him again.
“Bro… Brother Yan,” Huang Yutian called out timidly, then immediately lowered her head, her sharp chin almost poking her collarbone, wishing she could shrink into a speck of dust.
Wen Zhuo sighed, seeing a completely different Huang Yutian from her usual self. Huang Yutian was popular in the photography club, cute, photogenic, and though her personality was delicate, it wasn’t without a certain charming naivety.
Her affection for him had tempted him, and he had considered whether he could use this to move on from his previous relationship.
But why did things develop like a runaway horse, catching him completely off guard?
Wen Zhuo composed himself and directed his gaze at Brother Yan. “Can we leave now?”
Brother Yan flicked off some ash from his cigarette. “Sure, I’ll let A’Shan send you off.”
“No need, I’ll tell my brother about your situation.”
Brother Yan raised an eyebrow. “Take care.”
“Goodbye.” Even in this situation, Wen Zhuo politely bid farewell to everyone present, and then he lowered his head and gently asked Zhuang Lu, “Shall we leave together?”
Zhuang Lu didn’t nod. She looked at the shivering Huang Yutian. “We’re all classmates, and we’re going the same way. Little Huang, let’s go together.”
Huang Yutian, perhaps foolishly, quickly shook her head.
Zhuang Lu frowned and prepared to leave. Her braised pot was still waiting for her to return.
Brother Yan, however, raised his hand to stop her and handed his business card straight to her. “You punch well. If you ever need money, come find me.”
Is he really crazy? Zhuang Lu frowned. Upholding the principle of not arguing with a crazy person, she took the business card and casually stuffed it somewhere, then followed Wen Zhuo out.
Watching the two leave, Song Shan shoved Huang Yutian. “Boss, this little bi—” Sister Hong quickly pinched Song Shan, who swallowed the last syllable. “What should we do with this woman?”
Brother Yan looked at the trembling Huang Yutian without speaking.
Huang Yutian didn’t dare to look him in the eye, only lowering her head more and more. Brother Yan stepped forward, forcefully lifted Huang Yutian’s face, saw that her small face was already streaming with tears from fear, and for a moment, the words he intended to say were lost. One was weeping profusely, the other frowning tightly. The air was tense until Brother Yan finally gave up. He roughly shoved Huang Yutian away and strode out.
Song Shan exchanged a look with Sister Hong and quickly followed him.
Sister Hong looked at Huang Yutian, who was silently sobbing on the floor, and her eyes held deeper disdain. “Another trouble dumped on me. Sigh, Little Huang, stop crying. Sister will take you to look at some worldly beauty.”
Wen Zhuo led Zhuang Lu slowly along the sidewalk and took a taxi after walking for a while.
As soon as they got into the car, Zhuang Lu gave the address, casually explaining, “I still have a takeaway order to pick up at Huang Ji Braised Pot. I was so focused on chasing after you that I didn’t finish my meal.”
Zhuang Lu had intended to treat Wen Zhuo to the braised pot, but Wen Zhuo was not in high spirits. The two returned to school mostly in silence.
“I’ll go now,” Wen Zhuo still politely bid farewell, looking somewhat weary.
Zhuang Lu was momentarily stunned but didn’t speak. She just patted Wen Zhuo’s shoulder as a form of comfort.
A breakup, it’s a common human experience, nothing major.
But the two weren’t close, so she thoughtfully allowed the senior to save face.
After she finished the takeout braised pot, she put the whole incident out of her mind, tucked herself into bed, and engrossed herself in reading a casual book.
Monday morning class was with Professor Wang, who taught Qing Dynasty Ci Poetry. She stood gracefully at the podium, speaking about Gu Taiqing, gentle and mild.
Zhuang Lu rested her chin on her hand, captivated by Professor Wang. She recalled when Professor Zhang, who taught Literary Theory, displayed a portrait of Lin Daiyu on the PPT, and the image stayed there for the entire class.
She had also heard from a senior student that Professor Zhang loved Dream of the Red Chamber, loved Lin Daiyu, and also loved Professor Wang who taught Ci Poetry.
Professor Wang’s temperament was also like Lin Daiyu’s: Two eyebrows knitted as if in worry, a pair of eyes dewy as if about to weep. Her attitude showed the sorrow in her dimples, and her fragility was all over her body. Tears glistened, and she gently gasped. Still, she resembled a delicate flower reflected in water; moving, she was like a weak willow in the wind.
But the two met too late. Professor Wang already had a family, and now her family was happy and complete. Last year, she even gave birth to a lively son, making up the character for “good” (好, which consists of the characters for ‘female’ and ‘child’). Professor Zhang, however, was divorced in middle age and now lived a carefree but perhaps solitary life.
Zhuang Lu took Professor Zhang’s Literary Theory class in her freshman year and only started studying Ci Poetry and met the rumored Professor Wang in her sophomore year.
Was it because he liked Lin Daiyu that he fell in love with Professor Wang, or did he like Professor Wang and therefore like Lin Daiyu more? Zhuang Lu looked at Professor Wang, who was smiling slightly at the podium, pondering the unanswered question.
After the Ci Poetry class, there were no more classes for the morning. Zhuang Lu organized her notes, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and strode out of the classroom.
As soon as she exited, she was stopped by Tao Ru, who had a skinny boy standing next to her. Zhuang Lu figured it must be her boyfriend.
“Is something wrong?” Zhuang Lu gently tugged her hand and easily broke free from Tao Ru’s grasp.
“It was you, wasn’t it?” Tao Ru glanced at the now empty classroom and corridor before whispering, grinding her teeth.
Zhuang Lu shrugged indifferently. “It was me. Is something wrong?”
“You despicable wretch!” Tao Ru’s eyes widened, and she raised her hand to slap.
Zhuang Lu quickly grabbed her hand. “I never hit people without reason. Tao Ru, it’s fine for you to act up, but don’t involve me. If you involve me,” she smiled slightly, her small eyes narrowing into slits, “you can’t handle the consequences. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving now. See you later.”
Zhuang Lu shook off Tao Ru’s hand and was about to leave when the boy who had been standing beside Tao Ru blocked her way.
“Dead fatty, you’re really the epitome of an ugly person causing trouble! Have you no shame! Doing something so vile and low, do you know you hurt Ruru!” the boy said rudely.
Zhuang Lu looked at the boy expressionlessly. “So?”
“You apologize to Ruru immediately.”
“Who are you?” Zhuang Lu scoffed.
“I’m Ruru’s friend.” The boy stepped forward, but Zhuang Lu didn’t retreat as he expected. The two were now almost face to face. Zhuang Lu realized the boy was about the same height as her.
Pfft, she thought, not even a boyfriend. Where did Tao Ru find so many male classmates? A disdainful smile appeared on Zhuang Lu’s face. For people who treated her with such disrespect, she chose to respond in kind.
Zhuang Lu grabbed the boy’s collar and shoved him against the wall. “You visually-impaired classmate, what I did regarding Tao Ru was completely right. Not everyone is obligated to indulge others. Also, she has a boyfriend. Is it your turn to step up?”
Zhuang Lu didn’t bother with the two of them anymore. She swung her bag and left.
As she reached the end of the corridor, she noticed the beauty, Wu Nianxi, standing gracefully there, her slender hands holding a large stack of assignments, tugging with a boy. The boy wanted to help her carry them, and Wu Nianxi was smiling, but her refusal was obvious.
