The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 33
Chapter 33: What Right Do You Have?
He looked completely devastated, his voice extremely hoarse, but his tone made it clear that he had no idea what had transpired while he was away.
But how could that be?
If it hadn’t been under Tang Yingrui’s authorization, why would those Alphas have targeted their home for no reason?
Countless doubts crashed through the Omega’s cold-addled brain, nearly causing it to overload. Meeting Tang Yingrui’s unreadable gaze, Xie Mo hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided not to hide the truth.
He set down his bag and used sign language to explain: “One night, a group of Alphas broke into the house. I didn’t open the door, so they smashed it down and destroyed the furniture…”
Watching Xie Mo’s calm explanation, Tang Yingrui understood the gist of it before the boy even finished signing.
His trips to the casino were not a daily occurrence; he usually only picked a few fixed days a month to gamble. The wins or losses didn’t matter much to him anyway, as Kou Xingyu was always there to cover the debt.
But this time had exceeded all expectations. Kou Xingyu had become obsessed; seven days of exhaustion had left Tang Yingrui in pain at the slightest movement. Yet, Kou Xingyu felt it wasn’t enough. By the time Tang Yingrui woke up from his lethargy with a sore back and aching limbs, he was already in City Z.
At the time, he was so desperate to return that he spent his energy soft-soaping Kou Xingyu, completely forgetting about the debt repayment. Perhaps Kou Xingyu had grown tired of him, or perhaps he couldn’t stand Tang Yingrui’s twenty-four-hour non-stop verbal abuse, but he had finally sent him back for the time being.
After finishing his signs, Xie Mo pursed his lips, picked up his bag again, and turned toward the bedroom. Tang Yingrui had tidied the bedroom slightly; the bed had a new set of sheets and was at least habitable.
Tang Yingrui followed closely behind. “And you? Where did you go?”
The corners of the exercise books in the Omega’s arms were pristine and flat, and the plastic covers still shimmered with a new sheen. They were clearly recently unwrapped, certainly not something scavenged from a corner.
A dark thought began to sprout in his mind, yet he found himself lacking the courage to press further.
Tang Yingrui grabbed Xie Mo’s hands in mid-air as he prepared to sign. Xie Mo looked up at him in confusion, only to see Tang Yingrui abruptly change the subject.
“I’m not leaving again, and you’re not allowed to leave either. Do you hear me?”
From the moment of their reunion, Tang Yingrui seemed to be in a constant state of unease, tossing out nonsensical questions and demands. Before Xie Mo could respond, he was startled by Tang Yingrui’s sudden explosive roar.
“DO YOU HEAR ME???”
The voice thundered in his ears, making the Omega tremble. He could only nod frantically: I understand.
As for where the coat came from, where the workbooks were bought, or where exactly he had been all this time… Tang Yingrui didn’t ask any of the questions that were on the tip of his tongue. Perhaps he had already guessed the answer, or perhaps he simply didn’t want to know.
If he didn’t ask, Xie Mo couldn’t tell him. Even if he tried to explain with sign language, he knew Tang Yingrui would deliberately look away and pretend not to see.
Fortunately, the bathroom was still somewhat functional. After a rudimentary wash, Xie Mo lay down on the bed.
When he had left last time, it hadn’t been this cold. Now, with only a thin layer of bedding and a large hole in the window glass, the freezing wind poured in relentlessly. His body wouldn’t stop shivering. Xie Mo curled his back to the window, trying to shrink into a smaller ball to resist the chill.
Suddenly, a wave of warmth pressed against the back of his neck.
At some unknown point, Tang Yingrui had climbed into bed silently. He rested his forehead gently against Xie Mo’s nape, appearing completely drained. He didn’t even notice the faint scent of another Alpha’s pheromones lingering on Xie Mo. Pressing against the boy’s back, it seemed he had finally found a safe harbor. His breathing slowed, and he fell into a deep sleep.
Drowsiness washed over Xie Mo, but the bone-chilling cold made it unbearable. After some thought, he gritted his teeth and sat up, spreading the heavy camel hair coat over both of them.
An Omega’s constitution is naturally weaker than an Alpha’s. When he groggily opened his eyes during the day, he felt as if his head had been struck by a hammer. The cold had vanished, replaced by a scalding heat burning from his bones; he felt like he was trapped in a steamer.
His ears were filled with the sound of a loud, harsh shouting match. Xie Mo struggled to lift his eyelids and vaguely saw Tang Yingrui leaning against the doorframe, clutching a rectangular object.
Looking closer, it was the phone Ji Hanyue had given him.
Thinking back to when he first returned, Xie Mo had remained wary. He feared Tang Yingrui was only pretending to want him back while actually planning to sell him to someone else. That was why he had kept the phone on him. And the person on the other end of the phone Tang Yingrui was holding—there was no need to guess who it was.
“You’re just after money, aren’t you? Is a million enough? If not, I’ll add more.” The voice clearly looked down on Tang Yingrui.
Tang Yingrui’s face was cold enough to freeze, his knuckles white from gripping the phone. He hadn’t even noticed that Xie Mo was awake.
“Who the fuck are you?”
The other side went silent for a few seconds. When the voice spoke again, it carried a hint of surprise: “Xie Mo didn’t mention me to you?”
Tang Yingrui sneered. “What right do you have to be mentioned by Xie Mo?”
On the road, Ji Hanyue was driving toward that dilapidated area, his face full of irritable anxiety. He had only slept for a short while, and when he woke up, the space beside him was empty. The cold sheets indicated the person had been gone for a long time. It only took him a few seconds to guess where Xie Mo had gone.
While rushing there, Ji Hanyue was dialing the phone and cursing Kou Xingyu in his heart. Didn’t he say it was impossible to see Tang Yingrui in the short term? How did he let him back after only two or three months?
Knock, knock…
Xie Mo forced his hand out from under the covers and tapped on the wall. Tang Yingrui finally turned his head and walked over.
