The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Who the Hell Are You?
Unlike the last time, today was a bright, sunlit day. The entrance of A University was bustling with crowds of young, energetic students.
After dropping him off at the destination, Xia Yi left in a hurry to attend to other matters, though he was kind enough to take Xie Mo’s bag of clothes back to the villa first.
Watching Xia Yi drive away, Xie Mo stood alone at the school gate, feeling a wave of unease. After hesitating, he clutched his phone and called Ji Hanyue, wanting to tell him he had arrived. Unfortunately, he tried twice, but no one answered. Left with no choice, Xie Mo sent a message: “I’m at the school gate.” Then, he walked obediently to a corner to wait.
“Why is he here again today?” “Tsk, honestly, now that he’s wearing normal clothes, he looks pretty pure.”
Several unrestrained comments drifted past Xie Mo. He looked up to see the same group of three or four people from before. Seeing that Xie Mo had noticed them, a tall Alpha among them—the one called Zhao Yang—walked straight toward him. Although people were coming and going, few paid attention to the happenings in the corners.
Xie Mo had heard that A University was a prestigious institution that countless people dreamed of attending. Those who stepped through these gates were supposed to be the best and brightest, with high morals and great ambitions. It didn’t seem to match the rumors.
Xie Mo swallowed and took a few steps back, avoiding their gaze.
“Zhao Yang, let’s just go in, class is about to start,” someone in the group whispered. Zhao Yang let out a contemptuous sneer. “This mute hangs around our school all day; he’s probably dying to see the inside of A University. I’m just being kind and showing him the world. What’s your problem?”
Xie Mo caught the key word, and his shimmering eyes suddenly widened. Having large eyes had a disadvantage—every emotion was displayed on the surface. His screen was still stuck on the unread message sent to Ji Hanyue. If Ji Hanyue didn’t see the message, according to school rules, he couldn’t get in without a student or staff member leading him.
But the group in front of him clearly had bad intentions.
Zhao Yang poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue. He was tall, well-built, and the star of the school team; he never lacked Omegas trying to get close to him. Consequently, he was quite confident in his own charms. Seeing Xie Mo with nowhere to retreat, he reached out a long arm and hooked the boy into his embrace.
“Come on, Brother will show you the glory of the A University campus.”
When the boy was dressed in rags before, Zhao Yang hadn’t looked at him twice. But looking closely now, he realized this boy was more delicate and lovely than most Omegas he’d seen. He radiated a clean, pure aura, like a white plum blossom touched by morning dew. The more he looked, the harder it was to turn away.
Zhao Yang’s mind wavered; he immediately developed other intentions. The Alphas beside him were used to this, only laughing and telling him to be careful not to let “his person” find out.
Forced to stumble forward, Xie Mo’s internal alarms blared. He struggled to leave the stifling embrace, feeling incredibly uncomfortable. Zhao Yang’s fingers rested loosely on his neck, his index finger tracing the Omega’s fragile gland area—intentionally or not.
As soon as he moved, the strong arm tightened. Zhao Yang lowered his head and whispered a warning in his ear: “Don’t fucking move. Do you know how many Omegas beg me to touch them? Don’t be ungrateful.”
Xie Mo’s face flushed red with humiliation and shame. Why was he always the unlucky one? Yet, he couldn’t make a single sound of protest. To an outsider, the posture looked like a young couple having a lover’s spat, with the Alpha coaxing a blushing Omega.
Once they were inside the campus, everything would be easier.
He pushed and struggled with all his might, but Zhao Yang didn’t budge. To an Alpha, it was no different from a kitten’s scratch. After a while, Xie Mo grew tired, panting as he tried to adjust his breathing. He gave Zhao Yang the most threatening glare he could muster, but the latter didn’t even notice.
“Chou Ming, sign me in later. I have something to do.” Zhao Yang was already planning which hotel to book for the night.
Before Chou Ming could answer, the phone in Xie Mo’s pocket suddenly rang. Xie Mo’s heart skipped—it had to be Ji Hanyue. He fumbled to take the phone out, but it was snatched away by Zhao Yang before he could even look at the screen.
Zhao Yang playfully shook the phone. “Tsk, the latest model on the market. Little mute, where did you get this? Did you get it by using this?” He trailed off, intentionally brushing the back of his hand against Xie Mo’s waist.
Enraged, Xie Mo reached out to grab it back. But Zhao Yang held the phone high with one hand and easily held him back by the shoulder with the other. Xie Mo stood on his tiptoes, his hair brushing against Zhao Yang’s wrist, but he was always a few inches short.
Seeing that the call was about to end, a wicked smile curled on Zhao Yang’s lips, and he pressed “Accept.” He held the phone between them, looking at Xie Mo. “Why so nervous? Is it the sugar daddy who’s keeping you? Hahaha.”
“Xie Mo.” A voice, cold enough to pierce bone, suddenly rang from the screen.
Zhao Yang looked down instinctively and locked eyes with a dark-faced Ji Hanyue on the screen. Wait. First glance: he looks familiar. Second glance: I’m dead.
“Who the fuck are you? Where is Xie Mo?” Ji Hanyue demanded sharply. After saying that, he saw a hand appear at the bottom of the screen. Xie Mo, looking anxious, waved his hand to show he was there.
The video call ended.
Zhao Yang hadn’t recovered. It was normal for Ji Hanyue not to know him, but at A University, who didn’t know Ji Hanyue and his circle?
“How did you get involved with Ji Hanyue?” Zhao Yang felt a massive headache. During the lull, Xie Mo snatched his phone back and held it tight to his chest. Zhao Yang scrambled for a way out—Ji Hanyue had seen his face.
Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed. Before anyone could react, Ji Hanyue had charged over. A terrifying force slammed into Zhao Yang’s face. He didn’t even have time to react before he lost his footing and crashed heavily to the ground. Xie Mo was almost dragged down with him, but he was pulled back into Ji Hanyue’s arms at the last second.
The other Alphas glanced at each other and took a step back, pretending they didn’t know the pathetic man on the floor. Only Chou Ming remained silent and tried to help Zhao Yang up. Zhao Yang angrily shoved his hand away and scrambled to his feet himself.
Xie Mo was still shaken. It took him a while to regain his composure. Seeing Ji Hanyue’s terrifying expression, Zhao Yang feared retaliation and his mind raced. “Master Ji, I didn’t know he was with you! It’s all his fault, he was intentionally seducing me! If I had known, I never would have brought him in!”
In his panic, Xie Mo habitually used sign language to defend himself, his movements fast and urgent: “I did not! Don’t lie!”
No one present could understand him. Ji Hanyue frowned deeply; he knew Xie Mo wouldn’t lie, but anger still surged within him. “If you can’t get through, can’t you keep calling? I didn’t hear it just now because I was busy.”
Hearing this, Zhao Yang thought Ji Hanyue had believed his story and gave a small laugh. “Then we won’t disturb you. If we don’t leave, we’ll be late.”
Ji Hanyue’s attitude left Xie Mo with no way to explain. When Ji Hanyue put a hand on his shoulder, Xie Mo shifted to the right, gently breaking away from the embrace. He started walking forward, signaling: I can walk by myself.
Ji Hanyue didn’t try to hold him again but quickened his pace. Within a few steps, he had left Xie Mo far behind. Xie Mo watched the blurred figure ahead and could only run to keep up.
When they entered the teaching building, Xie Mo hesitated at the door. He wasn’t a student here; he shouldn’t just barge in. The Alpha walking in front finally reacted. He turned his head with a furrowed brow, unable to suppress his frustration. He walked back, grabbed the boy’s wrist, and dragged him into the nearby fire exit without a word.
As the fire door clicked shut, the surroundings became quiet, leaving only their overlapping breaths. Slender fingers brushed over Xie Mo’s cheek and stopped at his chin, applying slight pressure to force him to look up.
Seeing Ji Hanyue’s questioning eyes, Xie Mo felt even worse. He hadn’t even realized that since being with Ji Hanyue, he had developed more “living” emotions. When he was with Tang Yingrui, he was always just cautious and obedient, making sure not to anger him.
Xie Mo shook his head and mouthed carefully: “I didn’t… seduce…”
Before the words were fully out, Ji Hanyue leaned in, cradled the back of his head, and pressed his warm lips heavily against the boy’s. The kiss carried an undeniable authority, expertly prying open Xie Mo’s lips to explore. Within seconds, Xie Mo’s breathing was a mess.
Xie Mo was dizzy from the kiss, wondering what was wrong with the Alpha now. His explanation had been cut off before he could finish. It wasn’t until a sharp sting came from his lower lip that Ji Hanyue let go.
Ji Hanyue panted, looking down at him. “I know you didn’t. And don’t you ever have that thought in the future.”
A few hours ago, Ji Hanyue had been sitting in the classroom, bored out of his mind waiting for Xie Mo. Ren Wen was awake too, leaning back and messing with his phone. Suddenly, through the cracked door, Ji Hanyue spotted the teacher who taught the sign language elective. On a whim, he had gotten up and chased after her.
Elective teachers don’t expect students to be fully focused, just to fulfill their duties. Seeing someone take the initiative to ask questions was rare. After some small talk, since the teacher had another class, they simply exchanged contact information. She told him that if he was interested in sign language, he could come audit the class.
During class, Ji Hanyue had silenced his phone and listened for about twenty minutes before remembering his casual command for Xie Mo to come to the school.
…
Xie Mo tended to cry when he was angry, but whenever the Alpha saw his piteous, teary face, he wanted to kiss him. It had become a cycle. Xie Mo didn’t dare to cry anymore; he angrily wiped his tears, pulled out his phone, and typed: “Why did you ask me to come to the school? Is there something you need?”
Actually, there was no major reason. It was just an idea that popped up when he saw that couple earlier. Ji Hanyue made up a reason on the spot: “I’m bored. You’re going to accompany me to class.”
As a little mute who hadn’t even finished middle school, Xie Mo couldn’t link the words “bored” and “class” together. “Why is class boring?” he typed.
His damp lips were suddenly pecked. Ji Hanyue grabbed his wrist and led him out of the fire exit. “Because you weren’t there.”
The daytime was full of classes, and there were late classes as well, so most people stayed in the building after dinner. This was the last class of the afternoon. Ren Wen let out a yawn, clearly having just woken up. He twirled a pen, looking at the empty seat, feeling very indignant that Ji Hanyue had abandoned him to audit some elective. He doesn’t listen during his own classes, but he runs off to audit when he doesn’t have one. I don’t get it.
They arrived late to this class and could only get seats in the front row. Looking around, besides him, this row was almost empty. Ren Wen was dazing out when he felt the tiered chair shake violently. He turned his head to find two people suddenly beside him.
Xie Mo felt a bit uneasy and raised a hand to wave at Ren Wen. Ren Wen let out a confused “Huh?” before waving back. Ji Hanyue remained unfazed, subtly pulling Xie Mo’s hand under the desk and tracing the boy’s knuckles.
Even though Xie Mo didn’t have much money in his pockets when they were together, he always kept himself clean. Even a T-shirt he’d worn for years showed no signs of dirt. Even his fingernails were neat. In a classroom full of A University students, Xie Mo felt like he was dancing in broad daylight. His cheeks burned, and he tried to pull his hand back.
Then he heard Ji Hanyue say, “Stop picking up that trash in the future. Tell me what you want to buy, and I’ll transfer the money to you.”
As their palms touched, Ji Hanyue realized for the first time that the Omega’s hand was a size smaller than his own. The palm was covered in thin calluses and didn’t feel smooth. For no reason, Ji Hanyue’s heart skipped a beat, making him feel uncomfortable. “Did you hear me?”
Xie Mo didn’t really want to spend the Alpha’s money—it wasn’t his. And he didn’t know when Ji Hanyue would get bored and abandon him. Not until his hand was squeezed tighter and the question was repeated did Xie Mo finally nod.
“Cough, um, did you forget I’m still here?” Ren Wen cleared his throat, trying to assert his presence. Ji Hanyue gave him a flat look. Xie Mo pulled his hand back, clutching the hem of his shirt anxiously.
“Can’t you just stay quiet and sleep?” Ji Hanyue said. Ren Wen was indignant. What did he think he was? “I’ve slept all afternoon, I have to wake up at some point.”
This was a “bird course” (easy elective), and since it was near the end of the term, those who usually skipped were now sitting obediently in the classroom. Ren Wen and the others were no exception. If Xie Mo weren’t here, the forty minutes would have passed in a daze. But now that Xie Mo was here, Ji Hanyue propped up his head and looked at him sideways. He inexplicably wanted to get closer.
But because they were in a lecture hall, he couldn’t do anything inappropriate, which made him a bit frustrated. And for some reason, Xie Mo sat with his back straight, staring unblinkingly at the PowerPoint on the stage. He looked so serious that it felt like if you gave him a pen and paper, he would fill an entire page with notes.
