The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Isn’t That Even Better?
The other man hesitated, appearing wary of something.
There was still a deep bite mark on the back of his neck; the wound was sunken into the flesh and hadn’t fully faded, the dark red scar looking quite ghastly. That mark had been left by Tang Yingrui while they were trying to restrain him. As an Alpha, Tang Yingrui’s canines were naturally sharp, and he had bitten down with the intent to tear off a piece of flesh. The pain had caused the man to instinctively let go.
Before he could vent his rage, however, the young master of the Kou family had arrived with the money and a troop of fully armed bodyguards. He could only swallow his anger, take the cash, and let them go.
But a month had passed, and Tang Yingrui’s hands had grown itchy again. He went back to gamble a few rounds. At first, his luck was uncannily good—the games went smoothly, and his chips piled higher and higher. Then, the blood rushed to his head; spurred on by a bunny girl, Tang Yingrui pushed all his chips forward with bloodshot eyes. He wagered everything on the final round. Lady Luck did not smile upon him; he lost it all.
Tang Yingrui had been calmer than anyone after losing the money, leaving only a message that someone would pay up in two weeks. They believed him because that was how it usually worked. They waited patiently for two weeks, but then his phone went dead. This unusual situation became the fuse that led them here.
They never expected that a tiny, broken shack would be hiding an Omega.
Seeing that the Alpha was still hesitating, A-San fanned the flames: “That guy from the Kou family definitely doesn’t know he’s hiding an Omega privately. So, even if we do something to this Omega, the blame won’t fall on us. He might even praise us for doing a good job.”
The sharp pain in his shoulder gave Xie Mo an unprecedented clarity. Hearing their conversation made his small face turn deathly pale. He trembled and shook his head, silently saying no.
The two finally noticed something strange. They pried his mouth open. “Holy crap, he can’t talk?”
The excitement in their eyes grew even stronger. Well, isn’t that perfect? No matter what they did to him, they wouldn’t have to worry about anyone hearing a cry for help.
The Alpha was swayed by A-San’s logic. He touched the tooth marks on his neck and grinned. “Isn’t that even better?”
…
The room was small. After turning it upside down to no avail, they took the only living person in the house with them.
The back seat of the van was crammed with people; Xie Mo was squeezed in the middle, unable to move. The pungent smell of cheap leather and sweat, mixed with strong Alpha pheromones, formed a foul odor that forced its way into Xie Mo’s nose. He sneezed a few times, but fearing the Alphas beside him, he only dared to do so very quietly.
The van sped along. He had no idea where these people were taking him. The terror of the unknown left the Omega, who had never seen such a scene, scared to death. In his mind, besides Tang Yingrui, the shadow of another Alpha began to emerge.
An Omega sitting among a group of large Alphas was like a lamb fallen into a pack of wolves. Physiological tears hung in his eyes, but he never dared to let them fall.
Not just the two Alphas from before, but the others in the van were also starting to grow restless. However, the space was too small to move, so they just kept urging the driver to go faster. The van was too stuffy, and Alphas instinctively felt repulsed by the pheromones of their own kind. Despite being around each other for a long time, the Alpha by the edge couldn’t help but roll down the window halfway to breathe.
The moment the night wind blew in with fresh air, his tensed nerves were just about to relax—but he was immediately noticed and cursed at: “You f***ing idiot! Are you trying to let everyone know we’re over capacity and kidnapping someone?!!”
Xie Mo shrank back. So they know that what they are doing is wrong.
Just then, they hit a red light. The Alpha, face flushed, gave a sheepish grin and rolled the window back up. In the split second before the glass closed, he unexpectedly locked eyes with the person in the car next to them.
…
Ren Wen had taken the opportunity while waiting for the light to roll down his window and light a cigarette. Amidst the swirling smoke, he cast a casual glance at the van half a meter away. The smell coming from it was bizarre—he could even vaguely catch the extremely faint scent of an Omega.
Before he could think further, the window was closed.
Ren Wen’s other hand was holding his phone, which showed an ongoing call. “Ji Hanyue, where are you right now?” Ren Wen took one last look at the van. As the light turned green, he stubbed out his cigarette and started the car.
“At the manor. My father arranged a blind date for me and told me to come back and meet them,” Ji Hanyue’s voice sounded frustrated and helpless.
“Nie Xi’s brother is back from the overseas sanatorium. He’s really something—throwing a wild party for a sick person.” Ren Wen stepped on the gas. As he drove parallel to the van, he purposely lowered his window. “I’m heading there now. What about you? How long until you arrive?”
“At least two hours.”
“A blind date in the middle of the night? What is your old man thinking?” Ren Wen was heading in the same direction as the van, so he mentioned it casually: “I was just smoking, and that car next to me smelled like they were hiding a corpse. A whole van full of Alphas.”
Ji Hanyue was annoyed by the blind date. The person was arriving soon. Hearing this, he said, “Maybe they really are hiding a corpse.”
Ren Wen was used to his perfunctory attitude and changed the subject. “I brought a bottle of wine. The one I buried under the locust tree last year. I originally planned to dig it up to celebrate after graduation…”
Ji Hanyue’s expression froze. He suddenly interrupted, “Where are you right now?”
Ren Wen, annoyed at being cut off, shouted back, “I f***ing told you I was going to dig up the wine!”
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds before the questioning continued. “Are you about to pass through a very run-down area?”
He thought he had never been there, but Ren Wen’s mention reminded him that he had passed it last summer while out for a drive. Sensing something was wrong with his tone, Ren Wen frowned. “What’s up?”
“You said you saw a strange van driving from that direction.”
Ji Hanyue didn’t wait for a confirmation before abruptly hanging up. Ren Wen was left staring at his black phone screen.
…
Yuan Zixuan was delayed by half an hour due to a traffic jam. To show his apology, he had specially picked out a bouquet of bright eustomas from a florist along the way.
His assistant’s expression was grim, telling him not to be so proactive—if the Ji family’s young master didn’t like him, he’d lose face. Yuan Zixuan was soft-tempered and shy. Hearing his assistant, he paused at the gates of the Ji manor, hesitating.
He finally convinced himself that whether the man liked him was his business, but giving a gift was only right. He gathered his courage to step forward, only to “thud” right into a warm, hard chest carrying the faint scent of Cypress.
He looked up and locked eyes with Ji Hanyue’s slightly furrowed brows.
Ji Hanyue was in a rush. He gave a slight nod as a greeting and said flatly, “Sorry, I have urgent business and must leave. Please make yourself at home.”
The eustomas in Yuan Zixuan’s arms were bent by the impact. Water droplets rolled off the petals, soaking the fabric over his heart. The assistant pushed the bouquet aside, wiped him down with a tissue with a cold face, and scoffed, “A waste of effort. You haven’t even crossed the threshold.”
He grabbed Yuan Zixuan’s wrist to turn him around. “Let’s go. We’re going back.”
“…We should still go in. After all, my father gave the order.” Yuan Zixuan bit his lip, pulled his hand back, stuffed the flowers into the assistant’s arms, and entered the old Ji family manor.
