The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: You Know Him?
In the next second, however, the receiver was suddenly muffled by something, and a dull, breathless sound came through.
“Hang up—” a sharp, annoyed reprimand exploded through the phone, but the tail end of the sentence softened as if it had been cut short.
Amidst the static, there was the faint sound of fabric rubbing together; then, only ragged breathing remained on the other end.
Ji Hanyue’s expression became instantly complex, while Xie Mo stared at his phone screen, looking utterly bewildered. Why was his phone making such strange noises?
“Make a sound…”
The moment those three words crackled through the receiver, Ji Hanyue decisively cut the call. His eyes swirled with dark undercurrents and deep suspicion. For the first time, he asked Xie Mo in a serious tone:
“How do you know Kou Xingyu?”
Furthermore, the noises from the receiver clearly suggested they weren’t doing anything “proper.” To be on a call with Xie Mo under those circumstances indicated an extraordinary relationship between them.
Most wealthy heirs looked down on those at the bottom of the social ladder to varying degrees. Even someone like Ji Hanyue wouldn’t normally associate a trash-picking Omega with a high-status Alpha like Kou Xingyu.
However, when Xie Mo looked up, the confusion in his eyes was too clear to be faked. Xie Mo grabbed Ji Hanyue’s palm and wrote with his fingertip: “I don’t know the person you’re talking about.”
Ji Hanyue wasn’t about to believe that. As if to verify something, he directly opened the phone’s contact list. The phone was an old-fashioned keypad model from years ago, its surface so scratched it likely wouldn’t even be worth trading for a plastic basin.
He frowned as he scrolled through the contacts. He didn’t know why he felt the need to get to the bottom of this, but instinctively, he didn’t want Xie Mo having contact with an Alpha who was a competitor to himself.
But it was completely different from what he expected. Aside from a few spam numbers starting with zero, there was only one contact named “Tang Yingrui”—presumably the Alpha Xie Mo kept mentioning.
As for the call just now, Ji Hanyue searched the logs and found it was the first time that number had ever called. This gave him the urge to call back, but remembering the sounds from the other end, he rubbed his face in frustration and turned his focus back to Xie Mo.
“If you don’t know him, then why would Kou Xingyu call you?!”
Xie Mo had no idea. Faced with Ji Hanyue’s inexplicable rage, all he could do was hang his head and wait for the Alpha’s anger to subside without arguing. He was also curious why a stranger had called. The voice saying “Hang up” sounded familiar, like he had heard it somewhere before, but the words had passed too quickly to place.
The silent standoff lasted only a few seconds before Ji Hanyue suddenly grew annoyed that Xie Mo was a mute. He couldn’t even have a proper fight. It made him feel like a clown jumping around by himself.
Xie Mo was actually hoping Ji Hanyue would stay angry; maybe then the man would let him go. But he was clearly mistaken.
His chin was suddenly tilted up roughly. Xie Mo watched as Ji Hanyue approached with a look of pure displeasure. The Alpha then took a sharp bite out of his lip.
“Fine. I’m generous. I won’t bother bickering with you.”
After he pulled away, leaving a crescent-shaped tooth mark on Xie Mo’s lip, Ji Hanyue’s mood improved significantly. The priority was resolving the rut. Everything else could wait; after all, the person was right here by his side.
Xie Mo couldn’t understand the Alpha’s logic—one second he was obsessed with a question neither of them understood, and the next, he was pressing him down with a sudden surge of lust.
…
It always seemed to happen this way: no one contacts you when you’re idle, but the messages never stop once you’re busy.
Xie Mo’s phone was already a wreck. After the ringtone went off about a dozen times mid-act, Ji Hanyue impatiently threw it off the bed. The phone rolled half a meter across the floor and landed face-down, finally falling silent.
Xie Mo’s mind was a fog, but seeing his phone tossed aside, he found a sudden burst of strength to push against the Alpha’s chest, wanting to get out of bed. He couldn’t speak or even refuse; he could only let out broken gasps and breaths.
Two different pheromones intertwined in the air. The scent of Cypress was supposed to be rich and cool, but now it was so heavy it tasted bitter.
Ji Hanyue exhaled. Seeing that Xie Mo was too exhausted to even struggle, yet still unconsciously pushing him away, he became displeased. He followed Xie Mo’s sideways gaze and noticed the boy was staring at the “remains” on the floor.
He forced Xie Mo’s face back to center, his thumb brushing against the boy’s reddened lips, unable to stop himself from kissing him. Amidst the tangled breaths, he leaned his forehead against Xie Mo’s and whispered:
“I’ll give you an extra condition. How about 100,000 yuan plus a top-of-the-line phone?”
He didn’t believe Xie Mo wouldn’t be tempted.
Xie Mo indeed had a reaction, his eyes filled with a misty wetness. He wanted to cry, but as if mindful of something, he didn’t let a single tear fall.
Ji Hanyue kissed his thin eyelids, his voice deep and raspy. “I try to keep you here, you want to leave. I tell you not to cry, and you actually listen for once.”
His lips brushed against Xie Mo’s pale cheek and tasted a salty dampness. Xie Mo couldn’t hold it in after all; he bit his lip and wept. Then, he discovered to his horror that the Alpha’s aura suddenly intensified.
Perhaps seeing the Omega’s frail frame and truly pitiful appearance, Ji Hanyue exercised some restraint.
Seven days is neither long nor short. When he finally carried Xie Mo down to the first floor, the butler had been waiting in the hall for some time, trembling. Following the Young Master’s orders, the dining table was laden with a feast of nourishing food.
Xie Mo was still in a daze, the soreness in his body making it hard to distinguish reality. Only the scent of Cypress lingering on the tip of his nose reminded him he was still with Ji Hanyue.
Ji Hanyue had carried him many times, but he noticed the boy felt lighter every time. Through the thin fabric, his palms always brushed against prominent, bony angles. This led him to complain about that “crippled Alpha” while simultaneously feeding Xie Mo nourishing soup.
The half-asleep Omega leaned softly into his arm. Likely exhausted to the point of collapse, he didn’t even want to move. Most of the bowl of soup successfully made its way into Xie Mo’s stomach.
I need to fatten him up, Ji Hanyue thought. That way, he wouldn’t have to worry about Xie Mo’s frail body all the time and hold himself back.
The school provided a special seven-day leave for all Omega and Alpha students. Ji Hanyue waited until the afternoon of the day after the holiday ended before finally heading back.
…
Xie Mo opened his eyes in the thick darkness. Faint streetlights filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows. He stared at the ceiling for a while, realizing he had spent seven days here.
His first instinct was to find his phone. He turned on the light and searched for a long time, finally finding the wreckage in the trash can. He remembered then that Ji Hanyue had broken it.
It had been a cheap secondhand phone his “family” bought him the day he met Tang Yingrui. Xie Mo wasn’t terribly heartbroken, but since he was used to it, its destruction left him feeling a bit melancholy.
Suddenly, a phone rang. Xie Mo looked toward the source of the sound by reflex. On the nightstand sat a brand-new phone.
