The Beautiful, Strong, and Tragic Female Lead is Mine [Transmigration Into a Novel] - Chapter 24.2
Fortunately, Xie Zhitian didn’t dwell on the topic and instead turned her head to look out the window. The dim light outlined her perfectly contoured profile, like a delicate statue of a maiden from ancient Greek mythology.
She said, “Luo yang, it’s starting to rain.”
Luo yang was slightly startled. She followed Xie Zhitian’s gaze and indeed saw faint traces of rain on the glass, each drop spreading out, blurring the scene outside the window.
“You said you don’t like rainy nights.”
Xie Zhitian peeled a chocolate candy and handed it to Luo yang, suggesting, “I’ll come stay with you tonight. How about that?”
So the eldest miss hadn’t just been saying it casually.
She remembered what she had said that day.
Luo yang’s eyes felt a little sore. She didn’t say anything, just nodded gently.
Xie Zhitian rested her chin on her hand and then thought of something else. “Hey, or why don’t you come to my room? I bought some wine and snacks. We can have a pajama party!”
Luo yang’s eyes immediately showed a look of longing. She asked, “Just the two of us?”
She had only ever seen the term “pajama party” in books and had never had the chance to experience one herself. It wasn’t that she was unwilling to be with the eldest miss; it was just that in her mind, a party should have more people.
Xie Zhitian instantly understood Luo yang’s implied meaning and smiled. “What’s wrong with just two people? We can have fun with two people too. The weather isn’t good today. We can invite more people next time.”
Luo yang looked at that smile and also curved her lips slightly. “Okay.”
She then thought of another question. “But eldest miss, aren’t your parents coming back tonight? Don’t you need to accompany them?”
“It’s okay. I went to see Ren Meng this afternoon, and she said that because of the heavy rain, they probably won’t be able to come back today and will have to stay overnight in the next district.”
Xie Zhitian waved her hand nonchalantly and joked, “So, the death sentence has been changed to a reprieve.”
When Xie Zhitian first learned that her parents were coming back and were going to question her about the original host’s treatment of Luo yang, she was nervous and flustered. But she was an optimist and quickly calmed down.
Although the original host had been a troublemaker after her parents left and had mistreated Luo yang because of a scumbag, she had tried her best to make amends. She had not only taken on the work in the district but also become much closer to Luoyang.
She had done her best and had no regrets. If her parents still wanted to punish her for the original host’s various actions, she would accept it. After all, she had gotten a new lease on life.
As Xie Zhitian was comforting herself, a pleasant voice sounded by her ear.
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
She snapped back to attention and looked at the person next to her.
Luo yang looked at her, her tone serious, “The eldest miss will be fine.”
She had originally wanted to say, “The eldest miss is so good, she’ll be fine,” but suddenly felt a little embarrassed and held back the words.
Xie Zhitian was amused by her serious demeanor. “Okay, with your words, I feel at ease.”
She got up and helped Luo yang put the other candies into the drawer. “Come with me.”
Lately, Luo yang felt that the eldest miss seemed to have a Doraemon pocket with everything in it. No matter what she was interested in, the other person could quickly find it for her.
Outside the window, a storm raged. Raindrops hit the glass with a pitter-patter sound.
Inside Xie Zhitian’s bedroom, two oil lamps were lit. The warm yellow light was gentle, dispelling some of the bleakness of the rainy night. A small table was set up on the soft wool rug, with several plates of snacks and finger foods.
Ice cubes clinked crisply as they fell into a glass. Xie Zhitian held a bottle and poured a glass of wine for each of them. Luo yang rarely drank alcohol before, and fearing she wasn’t used to it, Xie Zhitian had chosen a fruit wine with a low alcohol content and a sweet taste. The liquid was a light greenish color, like the surface of a mountain lake reflecting lush, green trees.
Luoyang held the glass, took a serious sip, and then commented, “It’s delicious.”
“I’m glad you like it,” Xie Zhitian smiled and reminded her. “This one is lime-flavored. There are other flavors too; I’ll get you to try them later.”
Before she finished speaking, she saw Luo yang tilt her head back and drink the entire glass of wine in one go. The lamplight shone on her fair neck, and a few strands of hair fell with her movement, their ends also stained with a warm yellow glow.
Xie Zhitian: …
She reminded her, “Don’t drink too much. You’ll get dizzy when you’re drunk, and it’s very uncomfortable.”
Luo yang nodded. “It’s okay. I don’t think I’m affected.”
“Even so, don’t drink it all at once.”
Xie Zhitian was afraid she would lose her sense of moderation and picked up a few small dishes to place in front of her. “Come on, eat a little.”
However, Xie Zhitian soon found that Luo yang wasn’t lying. Her alcohol tolerance was indeed good. She drank two bottles intermittently, and her mind was still very clear, with only a slight blush on her face.
The two of them chatted intermittently, and soon it was late at night.
“It’s getting late. Go take a shower and then we can go to bed.”
Xie Zhitian pressed down on Luo yang’s hand, which was still trying to pour more wine. “If you like it, there will be many more opportunities in the future.”
As she spoke, she took the half-empty bottle from Luo yang’s hand and then tidied up the other empty bottles.
Luo yang was a little tipsy and also a bit sleepy. She got up as instructed and walked toward the bathroom.
At that moment, a loud bang came from outside the window. A flash of lightning descended from the dark sky, and the entire room flashed.
Xie Zhitian herself was startled. She quickly composed herself and asked Luo yang, “Are you okay?”
Luo yang shook her head, her eyes slightly dazed for a moment.
She hated rainy nights and thunderstorms, but just now, she wasn’t bothered by it at all. Perhaps it was the alcohol, but her heart felt warm, as if there was an invisible flame that perfectly shielded her from the cold rain.
But did it really thunder tonight… She had no impression of it.
Xie Zhitian saw Luo yang enter the bathroom with a normal expression and felt relieved, continuing to tidy up the room. She first packed up the wine bottles and snack wrappers, then took a new quilt from the cabinet.
Now that Luo yang’s injuries had healed, she probably wouldn’t need to sleep on the floor anymore. The bed was so wide; there was more than enough room for both of them.
As Xie Zhitian was making the bed, she heard two soft knocks. The sound was muffled by the rain, but she could still immediately distinguish that someone was knocking on the door downstairs.
Who could it be so late at night?
Xie Zhitian’s eyes darkened. She held a lamp in one hand and a crossbow in the other and went downstairs, asking in a low voice, “Who is it?”
There was a moment of silence outside the door, followed by a stern female voice, “Tiantian, open the door.”
Then came a male voice, which was relatively milder, “Tiantian, your parents are back.”
Xie Zhitian shivered, and the hair on her arms stood up.
No way, no way? Why did they have to come back in such heavy rain?
She didn’t dare to be slow. She quickly put down the crossbow and opened the door.
Standing outside the door were two tall figures, a man and a woman, both wearing long trench coats, looking extraordinary. Their facial features were somewhat similar to Xie Zhitian’s.
Xie Zhitian gasped and quickly put down the crossbow, inviting them in. “Mom, Dad, why didn’t you rest for a night before coming back? You’re all wet.”
The book had mentioned that her father was named He Yu and her mother was named Xie Han Shuang, and she had taken her mother’s last name. Others in the district had said that her parents were strict, especially her mother, who would punish her according to the rules whenever she made a mistake, without any leniency just because she was her daughter.
Xie Han Shuang was forty-five this year, but because of her natural beauty and good genes, and long-term exercise, she looked to be around thirty-five. She gave Xie Zhitian a fleeting glance and said, “There are many things to do in the district. We wanted to come back early.”
Xie Zhitian subconsciously stood up straight. “Mom and Dad, you’ve worked hard.”
She noticed that her parents hadn’t brought any luggage, only their handbags. They must have gone back to their own place to settle in first and then came to find her.
Xie Han Shuang and He Yu exchanged a glance, their expressions a little surprised. After being away for a while, their daughter looked much more well-behaved. No wonder even Ren Meng had praised her.
He Yu saw the crossbow Xie Zhitian had put aside and asked, “I heard from Ren Meng that you’ve been practicing well and have even been on the battlefield with the mutants since we left?”
His daughter took after her mother and had a naturally good physique, but she didn’t like to practice, so she lacked a fighting style. Now that she had finally become sensible and knew how to pick up a weapon to protect the district, he was very pleased.
Xie Zhitian replied, “Yes, I’ve actually been practicing for a while. It’s just that you were both so busy, so I didn’t have time to tell you.”
She had been a little worried that her parents might suspect her identity because of this, but it seemed the situation was manageable.
Xie Han Shuang’s voice also softened. “Tiantian, come here. Your father and I brought you a gift, and it’s perfect to put in your room.”
As she spoke, she had already walked to the top of the stairs and waved at the two of them behind her, signaling them to come over.
“Mom, slow down.” Xie Zhitian was startled. She held up the lamp to light the way and tried to stop them. “It’s very late today, and you must be tired from the journey. Why don’t you go back and rest early…”
“It’s okay. Seeing you so sensible, how can we be tired?”
Her daughter had been a handful since she was little, causing her endless worry and making her question whether she should have given birth to her. Now that she had finally changed, hearing her daughter say such considerate words, Xie Han Shuang felt a sense of relief and accomplishment.
She walked in front, her face beaming. “What else does Tiantian like? Tell Mom…”
Before she could finish, the door to Xie Zhitian’s bedroom in front of them was pushed open, and a pleasant voice came out.
“Eldest miss, where did you go?”
The next second, Luo yang came out, wearing a nightdress identical to Xie Zhitian’s. Her beautiful eyes held a trace of moisture, and her dark hair was wet and draped over her back. Because of the alcohol, her fair skin still had a blush that hadn’t faded.
She stood at the doorway, facing Xie Han Shuang. The two stared at each other.
“Huh?” Luo yang looked at the woman in front of her, whose expression had instantly become complicated, and blinked innocently. “Hello, Auntie.”
