Chapter 15: The Whole Family Likes Men, Except Me (15)
“You old fossil, who are you telling to shut up?!” Zhang Yulan was fuming, refusing to let it go. “Do you think Feifei’s words are wrong, or do you think her words hit your sore spot?”
“Feifei, keep talking. Say everything you want to say. Let’s see who dares to interrupt you!” Zhang Yulan turned back to give Xu Yangyang her full support.
Xu Yangyang gave a weak smile. “I don’t dare, Mom. I’m afraid Dad will quietly scold me again when you’re not around.” She hung her head despondently. “I’m sorry, I’ve failed your expectations.”
“He wouldn’t dare!” Zhang Yulan’s volume spiked instantly. The look she gave Meng Rudeng was like a flamethrower. “So this is how you treat the child when I’m not looking?”
“Is she not your biological daughter?”
Xu Yangyang couldn’t resist adding a line: “Of course not. I was carried for ten months and birthed by Mom alone with great hardship. What does it have to do with him? He didn’t suffer, he didn’t feel the pain of childbirth—how could he possibly empathize with you, Mom?”
Meng Rudeng nearly rolled his eyes back and fainted on the spot.
Xu Yangyang’s words were like water droplets in a deep fryer, or sparks on dry tinder, instantly driving Zhang Yulan’s emotions to the absolute limit.
Zhang Yulan’s meticulously maintained nails suddenly clawed at Meng Rudeng’s face. He was quickly disfigured. He also lost his temper, dodging while biting back: “Zhang Yulan, what are you doing playing the compassionate mother now? You act as if it wasn’t you who left her at your mother’s place in the countryside for over ten years and refused to bring her back.”
“You didn’t care about her or pay her any mind either! Now you know how to feel heartache for her?”
As the two tore into each other like dogs fighting over a bone, Xu Yangyang curled her lips, offering some hypocritically polite advice from the sidelines. “Mom, Dad, please stop fighting. If you keep going like this, someone will die.”
“I know you don’t like me and only like Brother, but I don’t care. I don’t want to get married, and I don’t want to leave. I just want to stay by your side and take care of you both until the end.”
“I’m sure Brother feels the same way.”
She intentionally brought up the most sensitive topics. Zhang Yulan followed Xu Yangyang’s train of thought and imagined the future scene: Her “good daughter” obsessed with women, either flirting with Jiang Ni or exchanging secret glances, sweet as honey. Her “good son” obsessed with men, either seducing men or being seduced, and finally acting like a delicate little wife coquettishly pouting at a man in his old age… Yue (vomit).
Zhang Yulan felt nauseous and clawed even harder.
“It’s all your fault! If it wasn’t for you, how could I have birthed two things like this!”
Meng Rudeng ran while dodging; Zhang Yulan chased while clawing. Soon, the two vanished into the distance, still entangled in their row. After watching enough of the drama, Xu Yangyang leisurely withdrew her gaze and sighed with genuine sincerity. “How spectacular. This world was worth visiting.”
0357: “…”
Wasn’t this all caused by you?
Truthfully, if Meng Rudeng and Zhang Yulan didn’t end this with a divorce, it would be very difficult to wrap things up. But if they did divorce, it would inevitably involve the division of assets.
0357 asked curiously, “Host, if Zhang Yulan and Meng Rudeng actually divorce, who would you choose to go with?”
“What kind of garbage question is that?” Xu Yangyang expressed her disdain, but after a moment of rigorous and serious thought, she gave her answer: “Zhang Yulan, of course.”
“If the father is the one with money, I’ll have many younger brothers and sisters. If the mother is the one with money, I will get all of her money and all of her love.”
0357: “But the mother favors boys over girls?”
Xu Yangyang looked up and smiled at the system without saying a word, but the system understood her meaning perfectly. After forwarding the “battle report” of the two parents to Meng Zhichuan, Xu Yangyang packed up and went to bed. These small family conflicts weren’t worth too much of her mental energy—unless they divorced on the spot and then both somehow got pregnant.
Lately, Meng Rudeng and Zhang Yulan hadn’t settled down, and neither had Meng Zhichuan.
Xu Yangyang stared blankly at her computer screen until Jiang Ni woke her from her daze. “Feifei.” Jiang Ni’s eyes were filled with worry. “Are you alright? Why don’t we take a break before continuing the discussion?”
“I’m fine.” Xu Yangyang shook her head, pulling herself together. “Come on, let’s continue.”
But Jiang Ni refused. “No, you need to rest for a moment.”
Xu Yangyang couldn’t win the argument, so she gave up. She closed her laptop. Glancing at Jiang Ni out of the corner of her eye, her pupils suddenly darted, and her expression became one of utter desolation.
Jiang Ni keenly sensed the change in her mood. After hesitating for a moment, she dragged her chair over to sit very close to Xu Yangyang. “Are you worrying about your parents’ situation?”
“Yes.” Xu Yangyang let out a soft sigh, her complexion looking even worse.
“It’s okay.” Jiang Ni pursed her lips, offering a pale comfort. “Everything will pass.”
But Xu Yangyang was clearly not so easily fooled. She raised her eyes, her clear gaze staring unblinkingly at Jiang Ni. “Really? Sister?”
Jiang Ni wanted to nod, but under Xu Yangyang’s gaze, she could only manage a stiff twitch of the lips. Seeing this, how could Xu Yangyang not “understand”?
Tears instantly welled up in her eyes. Jiang Ni’s whole body stiffened; she looked at her helplessly, raising a hand to touch and comfort her, yet lacked the courage to follow through.
Xu Yangyang took a peek at Jiang Ni and thought to herself—perhaps the “firepower” wasn’t enough.
So, she quickly began to sob softly, a whimpering sound that almost broke Jiang Ni’s heart.
Jiang Ni finally stopped hesitating. She firmly and powerfully pulled Xu Yangyang toward her, holding her tight in a silent embrace with her warm and soft body.
The faint, sweet scent of gardenias drifted through the air.
Jiang Ni’s limbs felt numb. For a moment, she almost lost perception and control of her own body, as if the arms holding Xu Yangyang didn’t belong to her.
“Don’t cry.” She lowered her head slightly, her chin soon touching the other’s soft hair. “I’m here. I’ll help you.”
Jiang Ni tried to make Xu Yangyang understand that she was on her side, but the person in her arms had seemingly lost all reason, immersed in grief and sadness without responding.
She’s only in her early twenties, the age where she should be innocent and pampered in her parents’ palms, Jiang Ni thought. Realizing this, her arms tightened around Xu Yangyang.
She felt she was being terrible—carrying such hidden desires while touching the other person, even wanting to take advantage of her vulnerability to gain her trust and make her dependent.
I wasn’t originally this despicable, Jiang Ni fell into a struggle of conscience.
She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice the person in her arms had long since stopped crying and was contentedly leaning against her, face buried in the crook of her snowy neck, breathing carefully yet greedily.
