Chapter 19: Please Apologize to Me
Huo’s Second Aunt looked terrible. They had tried calling Huo Yan again that morning, but that “monster” had actually turned off his phone. This left her feeling stifled and angry all morning, so she purposefully waited for the lunch rush—when the crowd would be largest—to intercept him. Xu Jingchu had simply happened to walk right into her line of fire.
Huo’s Second Uncle pulled away the reluctant but forced-to-behave Second Aunt. Just as they were about to head inside, Xu Jingchu suddenly spoke up: “Wait.”
The boy, wearing his backpack, walked slowly over to Second Aunt. “Please apologize to me.”
“What did you say?” For a moment, Second Aunt thought she had misheard him.
Xu Jingchu repeated seriously: “Please apologize to me.”
Second Aunt was so angry she laughed. She shoved Second Uncle aside and stepped closer to Xu Jingchu, her voice shrill: “You want me to apologize to you? Who do you think you are?”
Xu Jingchu looked at the nearly distorted face of the woman before him, his expression unchanged. “First, you deliberately bumped into me when you walked in…”
The lobby was very spacious and not crowded at all, so Xu Jingchu was certain the collision was intentional.
“Second, I am dressed neatly, yet you keep calling me a beggar. This is extremely uneducated and insulting behavior. Therefore, please apologize to me.”
Second Aunt was used to being arrogant and overbearing in the Huo family. Aside from Huo Yan, who would dare speak to her like this? Looking at the boy with clear, clean eyes and an overly beautiful face, she couldn’t tell if she felt more jealousy or rage. She raised her hand to slap him.
Naturally, Xu Jingchu wouldn’t just stand there and let her hit him. He stepped to the side, and Second Aunt, carried by the momentum of her own swing, stumbled forward and nearly fell, looking quite clumsy and pathetic.
“Pfft…” Someone let out a short burst of laughter, which was immediately muffled by a hand.
After steadying herself, Second Aunt whipped around and glared at Xu Jingchu. Her face turned various shades of green and white, her chest heaving violently.
Seeing her like this, Second Uncle thought to himself that things were going south. He reacted quickly, rushing over to grab her around the waist to try and calm her down. “Yun’er is still waiting for us outside. Let’s just apologize and get it over with.”
Slap! Second Aunt backhanded him fiercely and screamed: “Apologize to him? Huo Zheng, have you fallen for him or something?!”
Second Uncle’s face stung with a burning pain. He was a bit dazed from the blow. “I… fallen for him?”
As he spoke, his grip on Second Aunt loosened instinctively.
Her face contorting, Second Aunt broke free and rushed at him, scratching and clawing at his face. “I knew you old shameless man! How dare you? How dare you!”
Second Uncle wasn’t exactly a steady person either. After being subjected to Second Aunt’s unreasonable tantrum, his last shred of reason vanished. He shoved her away with a roar: “Enough!”
No matter how fierce Second Aunt was, she was only an Omega. Being pushed by Second Uncle, an Alpha, she went stumbling backward and landed hard on her backside.
Second Aunt propped herself up on the floor, staring at him in disbelief: “Huo Zheng, you actually dared to hit me?”
The veins on Second Uncle’s forehead throbbed. He managed to suppress his anger and said deeply: “Making a scene in public—what do you think this looks like?”
Second Aunt didn’t care. Since arrogance hadn’t worked, she resorted to throwing a tantrum. She began kicking her legs on the floor and wailing: “I don’t want to live anymore! You actually hit me! Everyone, come look! The men of the Huo family are hitting their wives…”
The surrounding onlookers looked away, pretending not to hear or see anything. Are you kidding? Their big boss was also “a man of the Huo family.”
Xu Jingchu was a bit stunned. He only wanted Second Aunt to apologize to him—after all, she was the “Second Aunt” who had made Huo Yan unhappy. Who knew that a grown woman would resort to rolling around on the floor like a hooligan?
Seeing that Second Aunt showed no signs of stopping anytime soon, Xu Jingchu looked down at his watch.
12:15 PM.
This was past his usual lunchtime. Having been given a second chance at life, Xu Jingchu cherished his health deeply. He walked over to the front desk and asked politely: “Hello, sister. Could you tell me which floor Huo Yan is on?”
Huo Yan had said he worked here, but he hadn’t specified which floor or what his position was.
Seeing such a well-behaved and beautiful boy, the receptionist immediately offered a smile: “Hello. Do you have an appointment with our Chairman?”
Chairman?
Xu Jingchu was slightly taken aback, then shook his head: “I have a lunch date with Huo Yan.”
While Second Aunt was scratching Second Uncle’s face, he had sent a text to Huo Yan.
Calling the Chairman by his name?
The receptionist quickly opened her computer, her attitude becoming a bit more respectful: “Sir, may I ask your name?”
Xu Jingchu knew some places required a name for registration, just like visitors at his school. He replied honestly: “My name is Xu Jingchu.”
The receptionist typed in his name, but the appointment schedule showed no such person.
Her expression became a bit subtle. “Um… Mr. Xu, are you sure you have an appointment with our Chairman?”
Xu Jingchu emphasized: “I only have an appointment with Huo Yan.”
Receptionist: “…”
She discreetly sized up the boy again. For a long while, the only words in her head were “beautiful” and “well-behaved.”
Actually, many Omegas usually came looking for the Chairman with various excuses—after all, the Chairman was young, wealthy, handsome, and a top-tier Alpha—but they were always seen through and “escorted out” by the sharp-eyed staff. But the Omega in front of her was so beautiful and stood there so obediently that he didn’t look like a deceptive person with ulterior motives. The receptionist was in a bit of a dilemma.
Ding— The Chairman’s private elevator suddenly opened.
A refined and elegant man rushed out, and the surrounding area instantly went silent.
Was this the first time they had ever seen their big boss looking so hurried?
Huo Yan’s narrow eyes scanned the room and quickly locked onto the boy standing at the front desk with a backpack.
The next moment, the man took long strides over to the boy, his tone gentle but unable to hide his excitement: “Why are you here?”
Seeing the person he wanted to see, Xu Jingchu’s clear eyes curved into beautiful crescents: “I came to find you for lunch.”
Huo Yan’s breathing grew slightly shallow. He firmly grasped the boy’s fair, slender wrist, invisibly radiating the possessiveness of an Alpha for his Omega.
He turned to the receptionist and said: “From now on, let him through directly whenever he comes.” He paused, then added, “Actually, just escort him straight up.”
The receptionist nodded blankly: “Yes, Chairman.”
It wasn’t until the two figures—one tall and one short—disappeared into the private elevator that the receptionist let out a long breath. Her face was calm, but her heart was screaming: Ahhh! Mom, they look so good together!!!
It was only then that Second Aunt and Second Uncle snapped out of it, but by the time they rushed to the elevator, the doors had already slammed shut.
Second Aunt was bursting with rage, pounding on the elevator doors: “Huo Yan—!”
