Chapter 21: To Repay You, I’ll Definitely Work Harder Tonight
A deep turquoise-green porcelain vase with a pear-shaped base, painted with clusters of white lotuses, emerald lotus leaves, and floating weeds. The craftsmanship was exquisite yet dignified; one could tell its extraordinary quality at a single glance.
The auctioneer introduced: “Ladies and gentlemen, this piece is a glazed embossed vase from the Ming Dynasty. The design is simple yet grand, making it perfect for a collection or as a display piece. The starting bid is 200,000. Please begin the bidding!”
Lu Siyang thought to himself that the 60th birthday of Liu Jingguang, the chairman of Changshun and a partner of the Lu Corporation, was two months away. Liu Jingguang loved collecting antiques; if the price was right, bidding on this to give to him would be perfect.
Just as he was about to raise his paddle, he heard someone from the back right shout: “210,000!”
Lu Siyang sneered. Adding only ten thousand at a time? What a bidding genius.
However… that voice sounded remarkably familiar.
Lu Siyang couldn’t help but look back. The moment he saw the person clearly, a cold light flickered in his eyes.
Heh, an old acquaintance.
The person who had just raised their paddle was actually the chairman of Rongfei Construction, Wang Hongsheng—the father of that dog, Wang Fa!
Previously, because Wang Fa had drugged him and subsequently made several attempts to sabotage the Lu Corporation, Lu Siyang had already given them a sufficient lesson. Moreover, according to his guess, the attacks on the Lu Corporation might very well have been masterminded by Wang Hongsheng. Neither of this father-son duo was anything good.
Lu Siyang’s teeth itched with hatred just seeing them. He hadn’t expected them to have the face to show up in Shan Province.
Seeing his teeth-gritting expression, Fang Lv followed his gaze to the back, then turned back and asked, “What is it? Who provoked you?”
Lu Siyang’s tone was stiff: “Nothing. Just saw an eyesore.”
Originally, this vase wasn’t something he absolutely had to have, but… since Wang Hongsheng wanted it, he certainly wouldn’t let him have his way. He definitely had to compete for it.
Lu Siyang raised his paddle and directly doubled the bid: “400,000.”
Wang Hongsheng’s face immediately turned unsightly. Hearing the voice, he also looked over.
Their gazes met. Lu Siyang held up his paddle in a “toasting” gesture. Wang Hongsheng’s face instantly darkened, and he continued bidding: “500,000!”
Lu Siyang followed calmly with a price increase: “600,000.”
Wang Hongsheng bit his teeth and continued to raise his paddle: “650,000!”
Lu Siyang sneered and said straightforwardly: “800,000.”
The auctioneer scanned the crowd and asked, “Is there any further bid beyond 800,000?”
“800,000 once!”
“800,000 twice!”
“800,000 three times!”
“Sold for 800,000!”
Seeing Wang Hongsheng’s face turn the color of pig liver, ultimately forced to give up, he felt incredibly satisfied. Daring to compete with him—he was truly asking for trouble.
Fang Lv, looking at his triumphant expression, found it funny: “How are you just like a child?”
“I’m telling you,” Lu Siyang tilted his head toward Fang Lv and whispered, “The fact that I’m willing to bid against him fairly instead of going over there and twisting his head off is already a great deal of self-restraint.”
He couldn’t stand the sight of Wang Fa or his father now; even breathing the same air in the same room felt disgusting.
Fang Lv laughed: “Twisting heads off is illegal, baby.”
Lu Siyang, in high spirits, nudged Fang Lv’s arm with his elbow: “Tell me if you see anything you like later. This young master is happy today, I’ll buy it all for you!”
“So generous?” Fang Lv lowered his hand, reaching under the hem of Lu Siyang’s suit jacket to give his slender waist a squeeze. “Then to repay you, I’ll definitely work even harder tonight.”
Lu Siyang’s scalp instantly went numb. He almost jumped out of his seat in shock. How was this man so bold, daring to do such a… such a shameless thing in public!
“Behave yourself!” With burning earlobes, he glared sideways at Fang Lv and said fiercely, “If you talk any more nonsense, I’ll have the security guards throw you out!”
Fang Lv leaned closer and secretly squeezed his palm: “Yes, yes, yes, I won’t dare do it again.”
Lu Siyang gave a cold snort and turned his head away.
Seeing no resistance, Fang Lv became even bolder, sliding his fingers one by one between Lu Siyang’s until their hands were tightly interlaced.
Lu Siyang’s back stiffened. He hesitated for a long time but ultimately did not withdraw his hand.
For the rest of the time, the two maintained this posture. In the hall filled with hundreds of people, the two sat in the front row, secretly holding hands. Fang Lv’s hand was large with long knuckles; as he interlaced his fingers with Lu Siyang’s, his palm perfectly covered the back of Lu Siyang’s hand.
The rough yet warm sensation momentarily gave him the illusion that he could calmly lay down all his burdens. He looked sideways; Fang Lv’s sharp features appeared even deeper under the reflection of the glass chandelier. The man sat with a straight back, seemingly listening intently to the auctioneer describe the next item, but the pad of his thumb was stroking Lu Siyang’s fingers over and over.
This bold, flirtatious little movement made Lu Siyang’s heart race and his face flush. Lu Siyang turned back, expressionlessly crossing his legs and leaning against the seat back, appearing perfectly composed, while in reality, his heart was practically jumping out of his throat.
This feeling, like a high school couple in a secret relationship holding hands in public, made Lu Siyang both nervous and shy. He cursed himself inwardly for being so childish at his age, engaging in “little kid” romance, yet the sweet and sour feeling in his heart made him relish it.
He suddenly remembered that salted plum candy he had eaten on the Ferris wheel on his birthday. Sweet and cloying with a hint of tartness, it made his heart throb.
During the intermission, Lu Siyang went out to take a call. Just as he was about to return to the hall, he unexpectedly ran into Wang Hongsheng at a corridor corner. He adjusted his collar and greeted him with a smile.
“President Wang,” Lu Siyang blocked the man’s path, saying in a tone of feigned surprise, “Long time no see.”
Wang Hongsheng was about to leave, but seeing Lu Siyang in the corridor, his face turned rigid: “President Lu.”
“Where is President Wang in such a hurry to go?” Lu Siyang sized Wang Hongsheng up and down, pretending to be curious. “Coming to Shan Province today—have you found a new partner?”
Upon hearing this, Wang Hongsheng’s already unpleasant expression became even gloomier: “Thanks to you, President Lu, as soon as suppliers hear the name of my Rongfei Construction, they avoid us like the plague and refuse to work with us.”
“Haha, President Wang, you’re wrong there,” Lu Siyang gave a light laugh, a trace of ferocity rising between his brows. “It’s not thanks to me; it’s thanks to your son.”
Wang Hongsheng said in a sinister tone: “There are no permanent enemies in business. President Lu, I advise you to forgive and forget.”
Lu Siyang acted as if he had heard the world’s biggest joke. He let out a strange laugh and said with a hint of coldness, “Rather than speaking so arrogantly to me here, President Wang would be better off going home and teaching your son properly—”
He stared intently at Wang Hongsheng’s expression and said with deep meaning, “Make him understand what things shouldn’t be done and what people shouldn’t be met.”
Hearing this, Wang Hongsheng’s expression froze, the corner of his eye twitching slightly. Then he said with a skin-deep smile, “In that case, I won’t say more. President Lu, you’d better look out for yourself.”
Lu Siyang said word by word: “Very well. I won’t see you out.”
Before leaving, Wang Hongsheng gave him a deep look before entering the elevator with a face of iron-gray.
After watching the elevator doors close with a smile, Lu Siyang’s face instantly darkened. He narrowed his eyes, Wang Hongsheng’s final words echoing in his mind. Look out for yourself… Wang Hongsheng must know something! It seemed he still needed to start with the Wang father and son. He bit his teeth hatefully; sooner or later, he would drag out the dog hiding in the shadows trying to harm his family.
Back in the hall, the intermission was long over. The auctioneer was explaining on stage, and Fang Lv was looking down fiddling with his phone. Noticing Lu Siyang’s return, Fang Lv switched off the screen.
“What took you so long?”
“What are you hiding?” Lu Siyang frowned as he sat down, his tone not great. “Are you messaging one of your ‘babies’?”
Fang Lv leaned closer, his palm stroking Lu Siyang’s thigh: “My only baby is you.”
Lu Siyang quickly slapped Fang Lv’s hand away, looking around nervously. He only breathed a sigh of relief when he was sure no one was looking. He whispered, “What are you doing! What if someone sees!”
“That’s what makes it exciting, isn’t it?” With that, a mischievous light flickered in Fang Lv’s eyes. “Want to go try the restroom?”
The restroom?!
Lu Siyang instantly forgot the frustration caused by Wang Hongsheng and scolded him with a red face: “You’re crazy, but I’m not!”
Fang Lv sat up straight, his tone somewhat disappointed: “Fine.”
But despite refusing Fang Lv, Lu Siyang felt a stir in his heart. In the restroom—a small, enclosed space, cold tiles, sweat running from his chin to his chest, the heavy breathing of two people… A shameful feeling rushed straight to his lower abdomen.
Damn it…
Lu Siyang took a deep breath and quickly looked at the stage, trying to distract himself.
At this moment, the auctioneer was introducing a strand of Golden Bodhi prayer beads. Compared to the previous items, this ordinary-looking strand was a bit too plain; no matter how good the color of the beads was, it shouldn’t have appeared here.
Just as Lu Siyang was wondering, he heard the auctioneer say: “This Golden Bodhi prayer bead strand is made of eighteen Golden Bodhi seeds. Though it looks simple and unadorned, it comes from the hand of Master Huiyuan, the abbot of Yushan Temple.”
As soon as these words came out, the crowd went into an uproar. Lu Siyang instantly understood the reason it appeared here. Master Huiyuan, the abbot of Yushan Temple, was a man of great wisdom and profound knowledge; the people seeking his guidance every day lined up from the peak to the foot of the mountain. It was said that the sutras he hand-copied were hard to find even for a high price, let alone a Bodhi strand hand-crafted by him and steeped in the chanting of sutras.
Lu Siyang estimated that even if it were an ordinary rope, people would be willing to pay a high price. However, since Lu Siyang had no particular faith, he had no interest in such things.
The auctioneer continued: “Master Huiyuan crafted this himself and wore it daily while reciting sutras. Knowing that the proceeds from the charity auction would be donated to welfare institutions, the Master specially sent over this strand that he holds daily.”
Beside him, Fang Lv’s expression suddenly flickered with shock upon hearing the auctioneer, and he stared intently at the prayer beads.
