- The Arrogant Duke Buys the Devoted Love of the False Saintess
- Chapter 12 - An Impertinent Question
“Good morning, Lord Damian.”
The morning after their contract, Lily arrived at Damian’s mansion, strode boldly into his bedroom, and woke him from his slumber.
She used the softest, sweetest voice she could muster—just as she had been instructed.
Under no circumstances was she to use the harsh, grating tone she employed to rouse the children at the orphanage.
He frowned, looking displeased, and asked ‘What is it?’ in a voice considerably deeper and more bass-heavy than yesterday.
His glossy hair showed no signs of bedhead, remaining perfectly styled as if he hadn’t been sleeping at all. Pressing a kiss to that hair, Lily whispered.
“My dear, you’re such a sleepyhead. You’re so adorable, I’ll let you sleep a little longer. Goodnight, Lord Damian.”
Do not force him awake.
Kiss his hair and tell him he’s a sleepyhead.
Whisper that he’s cute.
Mission accomplished: waking her ‘beloved’ in the manner of a cute girlfriend.
Feeling a sense of accomplishment, Lily gave a determined nod, quietly opened the door, and stepped into the hallway. She bowed to the butler who had been waiting anxiously outside, then offered him a bright smile.
“My apologies for the early hour. I have other work today, so I likely won’t be back until evening. I’ll take my leave now.”
Brimming with the satisfaction of a job well done, she headed for the employment agency.
Good jobs were fiercely competitive. Having slacked off yesterday, she had to work diligently again starting today.
“Y-yes… Have a safe trip.”
The butler, still in a daze, awkwardly saw Lily off from the mansion.
With the steps that had just completed her ‘lover contract’ with the Duke, Lily went to see Seigard and handed him the cheque.
He looked at the amount, confirmed the name of the payer on the cheque, and let out a heavy sigh.
“You’re acquainted with His Grace the Duke?”
“Y-yes.”
Lily could hardly say she had just met him for the first time today.
Seigard nodded, impressed. “I see. The Holy Mother is truly remarkable.”
“In that case, I’ll handle the settlement here. However, Anshim’s whereabouts are unknown, and there’s no guarantee he won’t repeat the same actions. I think it would be wise to search for him.”
“I understand.”
Once the debt was repaid, Seigard would have no need to pursue Anshim anymore.
That was likely why he suggested Lily look for him herself.
She nodded, but she had already enlisted the children’s help to search. Now, she just had to wait for word.
“If there’s anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to consult me anytime.”
Seigard responded with polite courtesy.
Lily stared intently at Seigard.
His sincere character was evident.
Wasn’t he the perfect fit for what Lily was currently looking for?
Someone like him would surely be willing to listen to her consultation.
“By the way, I have an impertinent question for you…”
“What is it?”
Seigard blinked his hazel eyes in puzzlement.
Leaning in closer to him, Lily asked with enthusiasm.
“Do you have a lover?”
“Pardon?”
And so, Lily managed to successfully inquire if he would be willing to become the lover of a man the same age as the Duke.
She had carried out the same procedure with the Duke.
