- Chapter 63.2 - Pregnant — A-Lan, We Are Having a Baby...
The dragon’s head was icy and hard, radiating a chill. Yu Xuanji kissed the cold, hard scales and said softly, “Why did you come to the cold pool to sleep?”
The black dragon shook its head slowly. Being hugged by the woman’s body, it instantly wanted to transform into a small dragon the thickness of a human and coil around Yu Xuanji. But it didn’t dare, fearing it wouldn’t be able to control itself during estrus and would do something to harm her.
Seeing it slowly submerges back to the bottom, Yu Xuanji touched the black dragon’s thick, cold whiskers and smiled helplessly: “Since you like it, then fine. I’m going back to sleep first.”
After Yu Xuanji left, two dragon whiskers quietly poked out of the water, scouted for a bit, and then the dragon lunged out of the water.
Cang Lan dried the water on her body. Once she was warm, she tiptoed down the corridor, preparing to return to the bedroom. At that moment, An Zhi, who had gotten up because she was hungry, discovered her acting suspiciously. She approached and patted her shoulder, asking, “Why aren’t you sleeping yet? Didn’t you urge the Master to go to bed before dark? Why are you being so unusual today?”
As An Zhi spoke, she became excited. She carefully checked Cang Lan’s clothes. Seeing her standing there intact, she said warily, “You couldn’t have gone out to ‘cheat’ behind the Master’s back, could you?”
Cang Lan was stunned, then quickly said dejectedly, “What cheating? That sounds terrible. I’m just in estrus and afraid I won’t be able to control myself and will hurt my wife, so I went to the Dragon Pool to sleep.”
An Zhi grew more horrified the more she listened. Recalling Cang Lan’s last estrus—it was cataclysmic, lasting intermittently for almost a month—she and Ting Lan had been terrified that something would happen to Yu Xuanji. She asked in a trembling voice, “Then will you lose control like last time?”
Cang Lan shook her head: “I don’t know. This is my second estrus. I hope I can control myself, otherwise my wife will have to suffer again.”
An Zhi nodded repeatedly and said, “Yes, that… that thing of yours is too big. The Master is human; she won’t be able to take it. You guys are usually so intense; I can’t imagine what estrus would be like.”
Cang Lan lowered her head and said cautiously, “In short, it’s just like that, but much more intense than usual, and… and…”
Hearing Cang Lan stutter, An Zhi asked curiously, “And what?”
Cang Lan recalled what happened in the hot spring pool. She was so embarrassed she almost jumped, turning and ducking into the study. An Zhi shrugged helplessly, not knowing what kind of fit this dragon was throwing.
In the study, Cang Lan found the drawings Ting Lan had made for her before. She really couldn’t choose which ring looked best, so she simply took the drawings to the alchemy room to forge them one by one.
Cang Lan was a quick learner, and simple tasks like forging rings were no problem for her.
An Zhi couldn’t fall asleep after returning to her room. She tossed and turned, disturbing Ting Lan above her. Ting Lan poked her head out, rubbed her eyes, and asked, “Why aren’t you sleeping?”
An Zhi said in a low voice, “I just saw Cang Lan outside. She said her estrus is here and she wants to sleep separately from the Master.”
Ting Lan sat up and rubbed her eyes, saying, “But I heard from the Master that a dragon’s estrus is every three months. It’s only been two months, has it come so soon?”
An Zhi shook her head and said, “Who knows. I hope she doesn’t go crazy like last time, not recognizing anyone, like a primitive beast.”
Cang Lan busied herself in the alchemy room for a long time, forging seven or eight rings. Influenced by Titanic, Cang Lan found many brilliant and beautiful blue sapphires in the treasure pile at the bottom of the Dragon Pool. She picked the roundest and most beautiful one to set on a ring, looking at her masterpiece with satisfaction.
She had searched for these blue sapphires for a long time but couldn’t find a heart-shaped one. She could have easily molded one, but for the sake of being natural, Cang Lan decided to find one slowly. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be natural enough and would look bad; giving it to her wife to wear would be too insincere.
Cang Lan took out a box and neatly arranged the finished rings. Following what Ting Lan had told her before, she placed her favorite ring in a small separate box.
After finishing all this, Cang Lan belatedly remembered one more important thing she had missed: she hadn’t engraved the rings.
At the thought of anything related to writing, Cang Lan’s face filled with gloom. She sat motionless in the alchemy room, dejected. At this moment, An Zhi and Ting Lan quietly crept in. Seeing Cang Lan sitting on a stool with her head bowed, they called to her softly, “Cang Lan, are the rings finished?”
Cang Lan nodded, then shook her head, saying, “My writing is too ugly. Engraving other things is fine, but writing—”
An Zhi and Ting Lan looked at each other and said, “Haven’t you been learning to write with the Master for a long time? Just engrave the first letters of both your names.”
Cang Lan was stunned and asked, “What are letters?”
Ting Lan took out a piece of paper, dipped some ink, and wrote a few symbols. Pointing at them, she said, “Look, the first letter of your name is CL, and the Master’s is YXJ. Just engrave these symbols, and don’t forget to engrave a small heart in the middle.”
With that, An Zhi took the pen and drew a rounded heart between the initials of their names, saying, “Just like this. Just engrave according to the drawing. We really wanted to help you, but since it’s a wedding ring for the Master, it definitely must be done by you personally. That’s the only way to show the depth of your love for the Master.”
Cang Lan nodded, thinking it made sense. So, following the symbols the two had drawn, she used a thin engraving knife to seriously engrave them.
The sky was just beginning to brighten, and Cang Lan wasn’t finished yet. These rings were too small, and she was a novice. Engraving on them required caution; if she messed up one letter, the whole ring would be ruined and would have to be melted down and reforged.
Throughout the night, Cang Lan was tense and cautious, yet she still messed up two and had to melt them down. She repeated this tedious process four or five times until she finally finished all the rings—seven pairs in total, each engraved with “CL [Heart] YXJ.”
Cang Lan happily held the rings in her arms, preparing to hide them in a place where Yu Xuanji wouldn’t find them. She had often heard that the most dangerous place is the safest place, so she decided to hide the rings in the bedside cabinet so Yu Xuanji wouldn’t find them.
No sooner said than done. Cang Lan was a total man of action. Holding the ring box, she tiptoed into the bedroom.
Yu Xuanji was still sleeping soundly, her eyes closed, lying on her side facing the door. Cang Lan stared at Yu Xuanji’s cheek and walked to the bed clutching the ring box. She squatted down, preparing to pull open the bottom drawer, but accidentally knocked over the water glass on the bedside cabinet. The glass hit the ground with a loud noise, then rolled a few times on the smooth floor before stopping.
“…”
Cang Lan’s jaw almost dropped in shock. She quickly picked up the glass and put it back. Her body tilted and her hand shook, and that disobedient glass rolled across the floor with another clatter.
“…”
Yu Xuanji had woken up the moment Cang Lan reached the door. She slowly opened her eyes just a slit, secretly observing Cang Lan’s every move. Seeing Cang Lan baring her teeth fiercely at the innocent glass, Yu Xuanji bit her lower lip, almost unable to keep from laughing out loud.
Cang Lan peeked at Yu Xuanji out of the corner of her eye. Seeing her turn over, the heart that had risen to her throat slowly settled down. She didn’t dare touch that glass again.
After hiding the rings, Cang Lan tiptoed out of the bedroom while Yu Xuanji was still “asleep.” Not long after she left, Yu Xuanji turned over and sat up, her gaze falling on the drawer Cang Lan had just messed with.
Yu Xuanji originally wanted to open it to see what was hidden inside. According to her understanding of Cang Lan, it must be some little surprise she didn’t want her to find. However, Yu Xuanji didn’t quite understand why Cang Lan would hide it in the bedside cabinet. Could it be that the most dangerous place is the safest place?
Definitely not; Cang Lan wasn’t that stupid.
Yu Xuanji tossed and turned in bed for a while. She couldn’t sleep. Stroking her flat belly, she didn’t feel anything special. Unlike a normal pregnancy, Yu Xuanji had been a doctor for several years abroad. She was well-versed in physiological knowledge and felt that this little life in her belly was a bit strange—it seemed too obedient.
Yu Xuanji tentatively tried to touch it with spiritual power. she could faintly sense its existence but couldn’t awaken it to make it grow vigorously within her.
Thinking of this, Yu Xuanji leaned against the headboard, holding her pillow, and began to worry. Cang Lan was a dragon, and dragons are oviparous (egg-laying) animals. That meant there was currently an egg in her belly, which was why she couldn’t feel any fetal movement.
Yu Xuanji touched her lower abdomen. This was her first pregnancy, and the partner wasn’t even human. She hadn’t even had a good talk with Cang Lan about how it would be before she impulsively took that fertility medicine without any hesitation. She really was getting “younger” as she lived.
After a while, Cang Lan walked in carrying a bowl of red date porridge. Seeing Yu Xuanji stroking her abdomen with one hand while staring blankly at a nearby photo frame, she called out softly, “Wife, you’re awake. Are you hungry? Come and have some porridge.”
Yu Xuanji turned to look at Cang Lan, curving her lips with bright eyes that made the dragon feel a bit uneasy.
