- Chapter 61.2 - Devoured Whole — "My Lady, You Are So Wet"
Shen Xiu laughed. “It’s fine. I have indeed been dead for many years. Because I committed suicide, reincarnation was difficult. My obsession wouldn’t fade, and my soul attached itself to my bones. Over time, I became a Demon Ghost. It’s a form of longevity.”
At the mention of “long-lived,” An Zhi sighed. “Longevity isn’t great. If you’re with the one you love, it’s fine. But watching them grow old and die, and then forget you in the next life… that’s the most painful thing in the world.”
Shen Xiu’s smile faded as she nodded. “Yes. That is more painful than having one’s heart carved out.”
Meanwhile, Tushan Bai arrived at the hall with the porridge. Finding it empty, she muttered, “Where did they go?”
She walked to the study and heard giggling. She knocked on the newly installed door. “Cang Lan, Xuanji, come eat.”
The door flew open. Cang Lan snatched the bowls without a word and slammed the door shut.
Tushan Bai stood there, stunned. Then she got angry. “Not even a ‘thank you’! No manners at all!”
Bang! The door opened again. Cang Lan leaned against the frame, looking down at Tushan Bai. “My Lady is reading and practicing calligraphy. Keep your voice down, or I’ll have your hide!”
Tushan Bai looked at Cang Lan: swollen, red lips, disheveled clothes with an open collar, messy hair, and a face covered in sweat. She pinched the bridge of her nose. “You’re telling me this is reading and writing? Does your study happen to have a bed in it?”
Cang Lan blinked, looking proud. “How did you know? We like to relax and stretch our muscles on the bed after writing.”
Tushan Bai was speechless at her shamelessness. Then she saw Cang Lan touch her left earlobe, intentionally showing off a round, translucent red stud. Tushan Bai took the bait. “What’s that on your ear?”
Cang Lan, finally having someone ask about the earring, grabbed Tushan Bai’s sleeve and began a detailed explanation. “This? It’s not just an earring; it’s filled with my Lady’s infinite love. Since you’re here, let me tell you all about it—”
Inside, Yu Xuanji was lying on the bed, her legs feeling like they couldn’t close. She tried to get up but her knees gave out and she fell back, panting and exhausted.
She heard Cang Lan’s voice outside. Half an hour passed as Cang Lan talked non-stop.
Tushan Bai was eventually tied up with Immortal-Binding Ropes, looking like she wanted to ram her head into a wall to end the torture.
Cang Lan took a sip of water to moisten her throat. “Actually, whether it’s an earring or anything else, if My Lady gives it to me, I love it. By the way, does your Xiu-xiu give you things?”
Tushan Bai rolled her eyes and slumped to the floor. “You’ve talked for half an hour about your ‘sweet anecdotes’! I didn’t come here for this! Spare me! Stop torturing my ears! I’ll never disturb you again!”
Yu Xuanji finally walked out. With a flick of her finger, the Immortal-Binding Ropes unwound from Tushan Bai and coiled around Xuanji’s wrist like they were alive.
Xuanji said, “Lan, Tu Shan had an appointment with me. Why did you tie her up?”
Cang Lan hid behind Xuanji, looking aggrieved. “My Lady, she asked about the earring. I told her the story, but she got impatient and looked like she wanted to hit someone. I panicked and tied her up as a small punishment—making her listen to our love story. Isn’t that good?”
Tushan Bai was fuming. “Keep your love life to yourselves! Who wants to hear your private business? I’m not interested!”
As the dragon and fox were about to clash again, Xuanji redirected them. “Tu Shan, is Xiu-xiu here?”
Tushan Bai nodded. “Yes, in the kitchen. Her body got damaged in the rain recently; her legs are limping. I want you to make her a new one—something sturdy that won’t break no matter what.”
Hearing “won’t break no matter what,” Cang Lan winked at Tushan Bai with a mischievous grin.
Tushan Bai rolled her eyes. “Don’t project your own ‘activities’ onto me. My head isn’t full of the filth yours is.”
Cang Lan hugged Xuanji’s waist and huffed at Tushan Bai. “My Lady, I suspect this stinky fox didn’t get what she wanted from Xiu-xiu and came here to vent on us.”
Xuanji laughed. “Alright, let’s turn weapons into silk. Let’s go see Xiuxiu’s condition.”
In the kitchen, Shen Xiu was helping wash dishes. Tushan Bai took the porcelain bowl from her. “I told you not to touch water; why are you washing dishes?”
Shen Xiu said, “I can’t just eat for free. Besides, this water won’t hurt me, and I’m getting a new body anyway.”
Xuanji had Shen Xiu sit and checked her legs. “The right leg can’t support your weight; you need a new one. I mentioned using profound iron, but that’s rare in the Barrens. Gold, however, is plentiful. We’ll use gold for now, and when we find profound iron, I’ll make several more so you can change bodies like changing clothes.”
Shen Xiu nodded. Cang Lan sent Huang Liu and the others to look for iron. While there wasn’t much iron in the Dragon Pond, there was endless gold. Cang Lan transformed into her dragon form and dove into the cold pond. She emerged holding a massive chest filled with glowing gold coins.
“Is this enough? There’s more down there.”
Xuanji laughed. “Plenty. Making a body doesn’t require a life-sized one; I just need to melt a few coins to carve a small figurine for the soul to inhabit. I can’t work with that much gold.”
An Zhi and Ting Lan stared at the massive black dragon in awe. An Zhi marveled, “Cang Lan’s true form is so beautiful—much better than those CGI dragons on TV. Those claws, that powerful tail, those shiny scales… no wonder Master likes her. I’m almost falling in love too.”
Xuanji stifled a laugh. She beckoned, and Cang Lan turned into a thin black strip, winding around Xuanji’s wrist like a “black jade bracelet.”
An Zhi whispered, “Master, I just realized, those TV dragons aren’t even worth one of Cang Lan’s fingers.”
Xuanji smiled. “You’re only realizing this now?”
An Zhi scratched her head. “She was so scary during her estrus. One roar nearly shattered our souls. We thought we were gone.”
Xuanji explained patiently, “Estrus is normal for beasts. They become aggressive and protective. Cang Lan is a dragon, and in dragon years, she’s only just reached adulthood. It’s natural she loses control sometimes.”
An Zhi sighed. “Master, you’ve worked hard to taming such a dragon.”
Xuanji took three heavy gold coins. Cang Lan, still a small dragon on her wrist, poked Xuanji’s finger with her whisker. “Do you need help, My Lady?”
Xuanji poked Cang Lan’s small horn. “I need you to melt these and mold them into the shape I want.”
In an instant, Cang Lan returned to human form. She held the coins, and pale blue flames flickered from her fingertips, melting the gold instantly. Cang Lan smiled as the gold began to solidify. She molded it with her fingers, quickly producing… a golden pig.
Xuanji facepalmed. Shen Xiu held back a furious Tushan Bai. “It’s okay, she’s just joking.”
Xuanji stepped forward. “I’ll do it myself.”
Cang Lan hid her hands behind her back. “Don’t touch, My Lady, it’s still hot. I’ll make a new one right now.”
Cang Lan quickly kneaded the soft gold into a humanoid shape, using her nails to detail the hair and clothes. Once it cooled, she handed it to Xuanji. “How’s this?”
Xuanji inspected it. “Great. I’ll take it from here.”
Xuanji spent five or six hours carving. Cang Lan sat by her side the entire time. Seeing the lifelike detail, Cang Lan was full of admiration. “How do you know how to do everything, My Lady?”
Xuanji smiled. “I’ve only learned the basics. I’m far from a master.”
Cang Lan leaned against her shoulder. “You’re the best master in my heart. No one compares.”
As Xuanji went to carve the last strand of hair, her hand slipped. The blade cut her finger, and a drop of bright red blood fell onto the golden figurine. Cang Lan immediately seized her hand, taking the finger into her mouth and licking the small wound until the bleeding stopped.
Xuanji felt a familiar heat rising. she glared at Cang Lan. “It’s just a small cut. You did that on purpose.”
Cang Lan licked her lips, grinning. “You wrong me. I just can’t stand to see you hurt. And even if I did it on purpose, you wouldn’t refuse me—you’d actually be quite happy, wouldn’t you?”
Xuanji suppressed her rising desire and stood up, leaning against the wall as she walked out. Cang Lan tried to help, but Xuanji pushed her away, stubbornly saying, “Don’t help, I can walk.”
Cang Lan smirked. “Then walk slowly, My Lady. I’ll follow. If you can’t take it, I’ll carry you back.”
Xuanji bit her lip and glared, but to Cang Lan, that look was pure invitation. Smelling the intoxicating scent radiating from Xuanji, Cang Lan tossed the figurine onto the table and swept Xuanji into her arms, vanishing into the bedroom in a flash.
The door slammed shut. The air in the bedroom became thick with sweetness. Xuanji lay on the bed, legs pressed together, muttering, “The figurine—mmph!”
Cang Lan muffled her with a kiss, stripping her clothes in seconds. She pressed down on her, growling, “Still thinking about the figurine? Am I that unappealing? I’ll make sure you can’t leave this bed for three days! Let’s see if you have time for anything else then.”
Cang Lan’s earring shimmered. She closed her eyes, her scalp tingling as sharp, dense fangs grew from her gums. She bit down on the fair, vulnerable skin of Xuanji’s neck.
Outside, Tushan Bai and the others were nearly asleep. Hearing movement in the workshop, they entered. Xuanji and Cang Lan were gone, leaving only the lifelike golden figurine on the table.
Shen Xiu picked it up. “Look, it’s beautiful.”
An Zhi smiled. “Master is like that. She says she only knows the basics, but she masters everything—alchemy, carving, everything.”
Ting Lan added, “She taught me how to carve.”
An Zhi sighed. “I asked her once why she learns everything to the limit. She just smiled and said I wouldn’t understand. Later I realized… she just wanted to lose herself in the work to forget someone or something.”
Ting Lan grew sad and sat in silence.
Tushan Bai asked, “Where has Yu Xuanji been all these years?”
An Zhi replied, “Everywhere. She’s been to the Three Realms. She even lived on Penglai Immortal Island for a long time. I thought she’d stay there, but then she vanished.”
Ting Lan said, “We found her hair and finally made it into the Barrens. But who knew she would—”
The sentence hung in the air. Shen Xiu stroked the gold figurine’s face. “It is all karma. And their destiny.” She smiled. “I lived in a temple for a while; I learned a bit about reincarnation.”
Evening came. Dinner was ready, but Xuanji and Cang Lan hadn’t appeared. The bedroom door remained locked.
As a crescent moon rose above the skylight, the sounds in the room finally began to subside.
Cang Lan sat naked on the bed, her arms wrapped around Xuanji’s waist. Her black dragon tail coiled from Xuanji’s shins up to her chest, squeezing tight.
Xuanji coughed and swallowed hard. Cang Lan pinned her down again, her face shifting into a terrifying, predatory “evil mask”—as if she were a beast looking at prey she intended to devour whole.
“Cough, cough—”
Xuanji squinted, terrified by the glimpse of the evil visage. “Lan… what’s wrong with you?”
Cang Lan’s lips curved as she pulled back the mask, smiling warmly. “What are you asking, My Lady?”
Xuanji blinked, wondering if she had hallucinated. “I… I must have seen wrong.”
Cang Lan used the tip of her tail to caress Xuanji’s chin and lips, sliding the tip into her mouth to toy with her tongue and teeth. Xuanji felt uncomfortable but, seeing Cang Lan’s teary, puppy-like eyes, she sighed and let her, deciding to spoil her one last time.
Xuanji looked up at the moon through the skylight. For a moment, she couldn’t tell what year it was. She cupped Cang Lan’s face, feeling her wet lips and sharp teeth. “Is it you?”
Cang Lan, who had been immersed in pleasure, felt her heart turn to ice. Her tail stopped moving. She looked everywhere but at Xuanji, jealousy burning in her chest.
Hearing a small whimper from beneath her, Cang Lan smiled maliciously. “My lady, you are so wet.”
But Xuanji didn’t seem to hear. She whispered, “You’re back…”
Cang Lan stared into Xuanji’s dazed eyes and whispered into her ear, “Xuanji, who am I?”
Xuanji moved her lips, looking blankly into Cang Lan’s black-gold eyes. She choked out, “Lan.”
Cang Lan’s heart hammered. A flash of joy crossed her face, but she shook her head. “No, I’m not asking that. I’m asking—what is my name?”
Xuanji murmured, “Cang Lan… you are Cang Lan…”
Cang Lan hugged her tight, no longer caring about anything else. She pressed her lips to Xuanji’s neck. “Yes. I am your Cang Lan. And you love me now. Remember that.”
