- Chapter 60.2 - Mirror Flower, Water Moon – No Intimacy During Pregnancy
The girl turned and kissed Cang Lan’s chin. “Indeed, a crescent moon. Once I’m done with makeup, let’s go for a walk. Your ‘Crescent Moon Brow’ will become the trend of the whole capital.”
The atmosphere was sweet. Moonlight like silk spilled through the window. They were truly a perfect pair.
Yu Xuanji watched blankly, her heart finally breaking. Her body went soft, and she collapsed. With red eyes, she lunged at the phantoms. Her body passed right through her younger self, and she fell to her knees, looking like withered grass in the wind.
The two could not see her. Cang Lan took out a box of rouge, took a bit of the red powder, and rubbed it onto the girl’s lips.
The girl’s lips parted slightly. Cang Lan stared at the girl’s lips in the mirror, leaning in to sniff them. “Why did the rouge suddenly become so sweet?”
Then Cang Lan said, “I understand. It’s because Wife’s lips are too sweet; even the rouge became sweet.”
Yu Xuanji watched as Cang Lan took the girl’s lips into her mouth, licking and tracing them. The sound of their intimacy filled her ears. The girl hooked her arms around Cang Lan’s neck, panting, “A-Lan, it feels uncomfortable there… I want you to give it to me…”
Cang Lan tilted the girl’s chin and laughed. “Then we won’t be able to go out today.”
“Why! Why! She’s mine! Get away from her!” Yu Xuanji lunged again, knocking over the rouge boxes on the dressing table. She scrambled to pick them up, murmuring, “These were bought for me! Why give them to her? These are all mine!”
She sat on the floor clutching the boxes, staring at them. “The rouge is mine, and the person is mine. You can’t steal my things—”
The dream began to fade. The faces of Cang Lan and the girl vanished. Yu Xuanji lunged at the last scent of fragrance, clutching it to her heart and weeping.
In all these years, she had never cried like this in a dream.
She began to lose the ability to distinguish between dream and reality.
A sickle-shaped moon hung in the sky, exactly like the brows of the girl in her dream. A tear slid down her nose and into her lips. In the dream, she tasted the salt of her own tears once again.
The Plan for a Ring
Cang Lan couldn’t sleep. She paced by the dragon pool, her mind in a mess. She tried to clear her head with cold water, jumping into the freezing pool.
Around 3:00 AM, she floated to the surface, looking up at the night-glowing pearls on the ceiling.
She decided to do something. She ran to the cave where An Zhi and Ting Lan slept. Fortunately, they weren’t asleep either, and the three walked under the Bodhi tree outside.
Being dragged out of bed, An Zhi rubbed her eyes and yawned. “Ancestor! What do you want now?”
Cang Lan had planned to splash them with cold water to wake them up, but instead, she pulled out two beautiful emerald bracelets and slid them onto their wrists.
An Zhi, who was ready to fight the dragon, instantly woke up. “My goodness! If this is real, it’s worth a courtyard house in Beijing!”
Cang Lan stood with her hands behind her back. “How could I give you fakes? You have the bracelets; are you still sleepy?”
The two shook their heads in unison. “Not at all! At your command, Great King!”
Cang Lan paced around the tree. Finally, she sat on a stone stool and asked, “How do people in your world get married?”
An Zhi was confused. “Didn’t you say you already got married here? Why do it again?”
Cang Lan couldn’t admit she had tricked her wife into it. She lied, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Since she’s from your world, I want to know the customs there.”
She clarified, “I mean, do you need phoenix crowns, miles of red dowry, or heavy bride prices? I only know the customs of the Desolate Wilderness.”
An Zhi thought for a bit. “In our world, first is the engagement, and you give each other engagement rings—”
“Wait, wait!” Cang Lan interrupted. “Engagement ring? What’s that?”
An Zhi pointed to her left ring finger. “Rings are small accessories symbolizing love and marriage. They’re usually worn on this finger to symbolize ‘one life, one world.'”
Cang Lan’s eyes lit up. “So it’s like a dragon giving a heart-protecting scale to their beloved?”
An Zhi said, “Since dragons have that habit, just give her your heart-protecting scale. It’s the same as a ring.”
Ting Lan’s expression changed. She shot An Zhi several looks, but An Zhi didn’t notice and even asked, “Ting Lan, do you have a twitch in your eye?”
Cang Lan touched her chest. “I wanted to give it to her, but mine is lost. I can’t find it.”
An Zhi felt sympathetic. “That’s a shame. Can it be found?”
Cang Lan shook her head. “I don’t know. If it could, she could have eternal life.”
Ting Lan, sensing danger, changed the subject. “Since you don’t have it, let’s make rings. It’s simple. Depending on the style, we can forge two ourselves.”
Cang Lan nodded. “I know how to make rings, but I don’t know what they look like in your world. Do you have blueprints?”
Ting Lan patted her chest. “Don’t worry. I was an art student; I’ve seen every style of ring.”
Cang Lan asked, “You’ve been with her for years; what do you think she likes?”
An Zhi thought. “Master doesn’t usually wear jewelry. She only wears plain white clothes. We heard it’s to mourn—”
Ting Lan lunged to cover An Zhi’s mouth. She smiled at Cang Lan. “An Zhi means that even though we’ve been with her, we’ve never seen her interested in things. Maybe you can ask her indirectly?”
Cang Lan frowned, sensing something was off, but she nodded. “Okay, I’ll test the waters.”
An Zhi nodded, realizing she had almost said too much. To make up for it, she added, “Besides the ring, the most important thing is the marriage certificate.”
Cang Lan realized, “Like a marriage contract?”
Ting Lan nodded. “Similar, but ours look different now. I’ll draw it for you later.”
Cang Lan smiled. “That’s great!”
Only Mine
Slipping back into the bedroom, Cang Lan made sure she was warm before approaching Yu Xuanji. She pushed the pillow aside and embraced Yu Xuanji from behind, inhaling her scent.
She took out a piece of “Immortal-Binding Rope” and found Yu Xuanji’s hand, wrapping the red silk thread around her left ring finger to measure the size.
She accidentally caught the thread on a fingernail, pulling Yu Xuanji’s hand out of the covers. Cang Lan froze, her heart nearly stopping.
But Yu Xuanji didn’t wake. Cang Lan sighed, carefully put the hand back, marked the thread, and hid it in her inner clothing.
She hugged Yu Xuanji tight, her hands resting on Yu Xuanji’s belly, a sweet smile on her face. She was so happy she wanted to carry Yu Xuanji to the moon.
As she pressed her face to Yu Xuanji’s neck, she heard a soft sob.
Cang Lan froze, thinking she had hurt her. She crawled around to the front and saw tears streaming from Yu Xuanji’s closed eyes.
Cang Lan’s heart ached. She knelt and wiped the tears, but Yu Xuanji gripped her hand, murmuring, “I don’t want to live anymore… take me with you… take me away…”
The words sounded familiar. Cang Lan hugged her and whispered, “Wife, don’t be afraid. I’m right here.”
Yu Xuanji’s brows were furrowed in pain. Cang Lan pressed her ear to her lips and heard: “You said you would protect me for lifetimes… why… why did you go… I can’t find you…”
“Come back… come back…” Yu Xuanji cried in her sleep. “Don’t leave me!”
At that moment, Cang Lan understood. An Zhi had almost said Yu Xuanji wore white to mourn someone, and now she was calling for that person to return.
Cang Lan’s eyes turned a deep black-gold, glowing in the dark. She sat there holding Yu Xuanji, staring blankly ahead. “Wife, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
She kissed Yu Xuanji’s forehead and licked away the tears. “No matter who you are talking about, I know you have me in your heart. Now, you only have me.”
Under Cang Lan’s gentle spiritual power, Yu Xuanji’s body relaxed. Cang Lan laid her back down and kissed her belly through the thin fabric, whispering almost maniacally, “Xuanji, Xuanji, you can only be mine.”
The Divine Physician
The next morning, Huang Liu returned, looking like she had aged centuries. An Zhi asked, “Cang Lan told you to get the Phoenix Senior; where is she?”
Huang Liu pulled out a carrot and took a bite. “Don’t mention it. I searched half the wilderness and couldn’t find her or the Demon Lord. No idea where they went.”
An Zhi said, “Then what? Are there other doctors in the wilderness?”
Huang Liu pulled a crystal-clear lingzhi mushroom from her pocket. “Look at this.”
An Zhi looked closer. The mushroom looked like a jade scepter. “Can a mushroom diagnose a pulse?”
Huang Liu threw it on the ground. The lingzhi transformed into a white-haired woman with a youthful face. She immediately smacked Huang Liu’s head. “You wicked weasel! You stole me from my home while I was sleeping!”
“My fault, okay?” Huang Liu crouched, covering her head. “But you had a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign up. Our Madam is ill, and I was desperate.”
The Lingzhi Physician asked, “Madam? The Dragon King got married? When?”
Huang Liu said, “You’re out of the loop. The King and Madam are deeply in love. The Madam might be pregnant, and the King is losing sleep over it. I was told to find the best doctor to take care of her.”
Hearing “Best Doctor,” the Lingzhi Physician straightened up. “In this wilderness, only I deserve that title. Fine, take me to see her.”
The Morning After
Cang Lan had watched Yu Xuanji all night. As dawn broke, she tried to get up to give the measurements to Ting Lan, but Yu Xuanji held her too tightly.
Cang Lan could have escaped easily, but she chose to stay “captive.”
Yu Xuanji opened her eyes, seeing Cang Lan playing with her hands and squeezing her ring finger. She tried to call her name, but her voice was raspy and unrecognizable.
Cang Lan’s eyes flickered with a dark emotion, but it passed quickly. She said, “Wife, you must have caught a cold last night. Your voice is hoarse. I’ll have the girls cook some medicinal food.”
Yu Xuanji’s eyes were red and swollen from the dream. She looked at Cang Lan and asked, “A-Lan, why are my eyes swollen?”
Cang Lan kissed her eyelids. “You had a nightmare and cried. I didn’t dare wake you, so I just held you all night.”
Yu Xuanji’s body stiffened for a moment. Cang Lan noticed. Yu Xuanji asked, “Did I say anything? Did I scare you?”
Cang Lan hugged her tighter. “Nothing much. You just cried and clung to me like a child. I couldn’t even pull you away. You were very cute.”
Yu Xuanji stared into her eyes. “I really didn’t say anything?”
Cang Lan thought for a moment. “Actually, you did.”
Yu Xuanji’s smile froze. Cang Lan then said with a grin, “You said you loved me very much and wanted to be with me forever. Oh, and you said I must protect you for all lifetimes.”
Cang Lan’s heart felt like it was being ground by a dull, rusty blade. She forced a perfect smile and kissed Yu Xuanji before she could ask more. “It was quite embarrassing to hear such passionate vows in your sleep.”
Yu Xuanji asked blankly, “Really?”
Cang Lan used her dragon tail to wrap around Yu Xuanji’s legs, smiling. “Really. Would I lie to you?”
