- Chapter 6 - Touching the Dragon's Tail; Her Lips Look So Soft... I Really Want to Kiss Her
Cang Lan was exceptionally happy tonight. When Yu Xuanji heard her question just now, she had said without a second thought that Cang Lan was the most beautiful, even calling her the cutest, most beautiful, and kindest dragon in the world.
Cang Lan naturally knew her beauty was incomparable to that of ordinary demons. Yu Xuanji was not allowed to casually praise the strengths of others; her eyes could only hold one dragon—not even Daiyu would do.
The sound of Yu Xuanji’s steady, smooth breathing drifted into her ears. Cang Lan’s golden pupils shimmered in the darkness, staring intently at the smooth curves of the other woman’s profile.
A posture like a “willow swaying in the wind,” astounding talent, but unfortunately in poor health—these where the descriptions Yu Xuanji had used for Lin Daiyu just now.
A thought suddenly struck Cang Lan, and the more she thought about it, the more she realized that the Yu Xuanji lying beside her must be that very Lin Daiyu.
Yu Xuanji was beautiful, with red lips and white teeth, and she possessed a pair of sentimental, soulful eyes. With just one distant glance from her, Cang Lan felt an urge to bring her the shiniest, brightest gems in all the world.
However, this place was the Desolate Wastes, protected since ancient times by a barrier. Unless one possessed the world-destroying power to break it from the outside, escape was impossible.
Most demons who entered the Wastes were far from kind, including many ferocious beasts from the primordial era. Not long after Cang Lan had hatched from her egg, she had been tricked into this place by a villain; over a thousand years had passed in an instant.
Cang Lan still remembered the woman who had cast her into the Wastes. That person shared an extremely similar face with Yu Xuanji; she could definitely not be mistaken. Yet, the woman in her arms possessed not a shred of power; she was merely a weak, pale, ordinary woman, unable to even shoo away a chicken.
It was a pity Yu Xuanji had amnesia. Cang Lan only knew from the contact list in the flat box she had brought that her name was Yu Xuanji; she knew nothing else.
Since she was here, she might as well make the best of it. Cang Lan never bullied the weak without reason, so she decided to take good care of Yu Xuanji and let her stay by her side longer. Human lifespans were far too short; a hundred years was already the limit. Moreover, with a body as weak as Yu Xuanji’s, even consuming dragon blood would have little effect.
All the demons in the Wastes feared her; Cang Lan’s friends could be counted on one hand. How lonely it was to be invincible.
Cang Lan counted them off on her fingers. The Old Phoenix was too old and loved to lecture her constantly. The Fox Spirit was too cunning, always coveting the treasures at the bottom of her dragon pond. Only Yu Xuanji was not afraid of her; she was gentle and considerate, cooked delicious food, and told wonderful bedtime stories.
Yu Xuanji smelled sweet, her skin was delicate and soft, and she spoke with a slow, refined elegance. Her sitting posture was graceful, and her sleeping form was beautiful; every movement exuded an elegant air.
Thinking of this, Cang Lan knew she had found a treasure. She watched Yu Xuanji fixedly, unaware that her own gaze had softened considerably.
Yu Xuanji looked completely defenseless in her deep sleep. Cang Lan moved her body slightly, inching closer and closer to her. Staring at Yu Xuanji’s profile, which looked like finely polished white jade, she slowly pressed forward as if possessed.
Her lips look so soft… I really want to kiss them…
The thought of kissing a woman made the dragon feel flustered and shy. She wavered between kissing her lips or her cheek, finally gathering enough courage to close her eyes.
Just as her lips were about to touch Yu Xuanji’s cheek, a few crisp “clack-clack” sounds echoed in her ears. Although the sound was extremely faint, Cang Lan detected it instantly. She focused her hearing and realized the rustling noise was drawing closer.
Sensing a faint scent of danger, Cang Lan pulled Yu Xuanji tighter into her arms, looking around warily.
In these Desolate Wastes, aside from the Old Phoenix, no one should be able to break her barrier.
In the past, she would have definitely gone out to investigate. But now that she had Yu Xuanji, and she had promised her repeatedly that she would stay by her side every moment.
The Wastes were full of danger; only her embrace was the safest place.
Cang Lan stayed awake until dawn. After that initial sound, she heard no other disturbances.
Yu Xuanji had not yet woken up. Cang Lan reached for the white jade bottle at the head of the bed and shook it a few times. A couple of faint thuds came from inside; there were likely only one or two pills left.
These medicinal ingredients were the “Meat Lingzhi” she had found a few days ago. The Lingzhi had grown for a hundred years and was about to take human form when Cang Lan pulled it up and brought it back to the cave, turning it into a spiritual medicine to sustain Yu Xuanji’s body.
Cang Lan carefully shifted her body. Her left arm and shoulder had gone numb from Yu Xuanji leaning on them. She wanted to stretch, but in the next second, the dazed Yu Xuanji held her even tighter.
She secretly muttered to herself that this was “troublesome,” then hugged Yu Xuanji back. The corners of her mouth curled up involuntarily; she was in a very pleasant mood.
As soon as Cang Lan withdrew the barrier, a weasel came stumbling and scurrying from the cave entrance, shouting loudly, “Great King! Something terrible has happened!”
She quickly covered Yu Xuanji’s ears and, with a wave of her hand, threw the weasel out of the cave, fearing it would wake her. The person in her arms moved twice and slowly opened her eyes, which were still clouded with a layer of mist.
Yu Xuanji’s voice was raspy: “What happened? Why is it so noisy?”
Cang Lan comforted her: “It’s nothing. You go back to sleep; I’ll go take a look.”
Yu Xuanji grabbed her hand, sat up from the bed, and smiled: “I can’t sleep anymore. I’ll go with you.”
The weasel crawled back in from outside, only to see a beautiful figure flash by. Cang Lan quickly took Yu Xuanji into her arms, turning her back to the weasel and leaving it only a view of her side profile.
Cang Lan asked, “What happened? Why the panic?”
The weasel thought it had seen wrong—how could the Black Dragon King have a living female spirit in her arms? It froze for a moment and said tremblingly, “Great… Great King, not long ago, the Gray Wolf and I were patrolling the western hills of the Wastes. We heard a strange noise from the desert and went to look out of curiosity. As a result… as a result… we saw a ghost in the middle of the night!”
The Panda demon (Iron-Eating Beast) following behind slapped the weasel on the head and said, “You’re a demon, what are you afraid of ghosts for?” Then it said with a fawning face, “With the Great King presiding here, we wouldn’t fear even the Heavenly Emperor himself! If anyone dares to stir up trouble on the Great King’s turf, she’ll make them regret it!”
The weasel muttered, “Why would the Heavenly Emperor come to a godforsaken place like this?”
The Gray Wolf demon limped into the cave entrance leaning on a crutch. Assisted by the weasel, it said exasperatedly, “Great King, it’s a Bone Spirit. I’ve never seen it before; it’s likely a newcomer. I saw it didn’t know the rules, so I planned to teach it how to be a demon, but I nearly had my heart and lungs gouged out to be made into a wolf-skin rug!”
Cang Lan frowned. “A Bone Spirit? What does it look like?”
The weasel gestured vividly with its claws: “It’s just a pile of human bones, two black holes for eyes, a mouth full of big white teeth—sinister and terrifying. When I saw it, its mouth was covered in blood. I don’t know which small demon met a tragic end.”
Cang Lan quickly covered Yu Xuanji’s ears, fearing the imagery described by the weasel would frighten her. She looked down at Yu Xuanji and whispered, “Xuanji, don’t listen. You’ll have nightmares tonight.”
The three demons keenly heard Cang Lan’s words and exchanged glances, each seeing the shock in the others’ eyes.
The Black Dragon King’s voice was gentler than it had ever been. The three demons had been by her side for hundreds of years and had never heard such a tender tone; their jaws nearly hit the floor.
The weasel gathered its courage and whispered, “Great King, I heard a few days ago that you picked up a beautiful woman to bring home, and now…”
Cang Lan quickly covered Yu Xuanji’s ears again and cast a Silence Spell to block the weasel’s mouth, shooting it a fierce look: “Ahem! My wife hit her head a few days ago and lost her memory. She’s forgotten many things completely, so naturally, she doesn’t remember you all.”
The Gray Wolf demon, observing the situation, said, “The Great King is right! During the time you were injured, Madam, the Great King was so worried she couldn’t eat or sleep. The Great King’s love for you is truly as solid as gold; we subordinates admire it with all our hearts.”
Satisfied with the answer, Cang Lan lifted the Silence Spell on the weasel and nodded. “In that case, do you know what to call her?”
The three demons fell to their knees with a thud, raising both hands in unison as they kowtowed and bowed: “Blessings to the Queen!”
Cang Lan nodded with satisfaction. “Good. Call her that from now on.”
Yu Xuanji finally couldn’t help but speak: “A-Lan, calling me that is a bit too…”
Cang Lan tilted her head and asked, “What’s wrong? You don’t like it?”
Yu Xuanji smiled and said, “Just have them call me Xuanji.”
Cang Lan domineeringly pulled Yu Xuanji into her embrace. A thick, powerful black dragon tail coiled around Yu Xuanji’s slender waist, gradually tightening. She looked down at the bewildered Yu Xuanji and shook her head. “No. Only I can call you Xuanji.”
One of Yu Xuanji’s hands rested on Cang Lan’s tail. This was the first time she had been tightly entangled by the dragon tail, and she couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke it.
Her fingertips somehow brushed against a specific spot—likely the gap between one of Cang Lan’s scales. Immediately following that, the dragon tail shuddered violently.
Cang Lan’s originally round pupils turned into vertical slits in the blink of an eye. She gripped the animal-skin blanket tightly with one hand, and the tail wrapped around Yu Xuanji’s waist tightened further.
Seeing Yu Xuanji frown slightly, Cang Lan realized her impulsiveness had squeezed her too hard. She hastily hid her tail away, her face gradually flushing a light pink.
Dense black scales began to crawl up the back of her neck. Cang Lan covered her neck with one hand and tried to move away from Yu Xuanji, but her hand—the one clutching the blanket—was pressed down by Yu Xuanji.
Yu Xuanji asked anxiously, “A-Lan, what on earth is wrong?”
Cang Lan shook her head violently and stammered, “No… nothing…”
The three great demons were confused and looked at each other, but only the Gray Wolf demon saw through the situation. It dropped its crutch and grabbed the weasel and the Panda demon, quickly dragging them out of the cave.
The Panda demon said with a puzzled face, “Old Wolf, why did you pull us out? The matter with the Bone Spirit hasn’t been settled yet.”
The Gray Wolf demon tsk-tsked twice. “You two unromantic old monsters. No wonder you’ve lived all these years and can’t find a wife. You deserve it!”
