- Chapter 59.2 - Nurturing Together, We Will Have a Child
Yu Xuanji tilted her head and asked with a smile, “What kind of major event is so important that you’re unwilling to even be intimate? Or have I lost my charm?”
In her haste, Cang Lan blurted out, “Not at all! I really have something urgent to do!”
Yu Xuanji asked, “Can’t you tell me? We’ve been together for so long and have always been honest with each other. Why is today—”
Cang Lan really couldn’t think of an excuse, so she just blurted out whatever nonsense came to mind: “Huang Liu’s grandmother is getting married tomorrow! As the Great King, I have to show some appreciation. I’m going to the Dragon Pool to find some gifts to send over.”
Yu Xuanji pursed her lips tightly and nodded, her voice sounding somewhat strained: “So that’s how it is. Then please convey my congratulations to Huang Liu’s grandmother. I wish her a happy marriage and a long life together, yes.”
Cang Lan was eager to escape and said, “Alright, my lady. Huang Liu is waiting outside, so I’ll be going now!”
With that, Cang Lan hurriedly fled the room, moving her arms and legs in a stiff, synchronized fashion, leaving Yu Xuanji alone and stunned.
Watching Cang Lan’s awkward, panicked retreat, Yu Xuanji had originally been worried about Cang Lan’s health. Seeing this behavior, she realized the little dragon was likely hiding something from her, though she had no idea what she was up to.
To keep it from her, she had even come up with the bizarre excuse of Huang Liu’s grandmother getting married. It seemed she really had something very important to attend to.
However, since she was hiding it, it meant it was related to her. Seeing Cang Lan’s panicked flight, Yu Xuanji suspected she was trying to give her a surprise.
Cang Lan fled the bedroom in a panic. The moment she stepped out of the cave, she bumped into An Zhi and Ting Lan, who were sitting by the Dragon Pool playing games.
The Ginseng Baby walked over on short legs, holding a tray full of fruit. Hopping onto the steps, she said with a smile, “I want to see! I want to see!”
An Zhi was playing Super Mario Run. The other two were watching with great interest when Cang Lan suddenly appeared before them, holding two luminous pearls that glowed with a soft luster.
Ting Lan looked up and met Cang Lan’s expressionless eyes. She was so startled she nearly fell into the Dragon Pool, only to be pulled back by her collar by Cang Lan’s dragon claw.
An Zhi put down the game console, which had only a dozen bars of battery left, and clutched her heart, saying, “Why are you scaring people!”
Without a word, Cang Lan threw the two luminous pearls, which were larger than their heads, into their arms. With a stiff neck, she said, “You aren’t even human; you won’t die of fright. I have something to ask you.”
An Zhi had originally wanted to get angry, but after seeing the massive luminous pearl, her rage turned entirely into flattery: “What does the Great King wish to ask? Ask anything; I will tell you everything I know.”
Ting Lan hugged her pearl, mentally calling An Zhi spineless, but she still made space between them, patting the spot to signal Cang Lan to sit down.
Cang Lan sat between them, holding a notebook bound with silk thread. She gestured with a pen and asked, “Do you know—”
“Sigh!” Cang Lan stopped halfway. She really didn’t know where to start. Frustrated, she grabbed her hair and said, “I don’t know how to say it.”
Seeing her look so miserable, An Zhi couldn’t help but have a slightly scandalous thought. She asked tentatively, “Could it be that you’ve been cheated on?”
Cang Lan was stunned by those words and asked, “What do you mean ‘green’? I’m already seeing red.”
Ting Lan pinched An Zhi’s lower back, signaling her not to speak nonsense. But An Zhi looked entirely innocent and said, “I was just guessing. Since that topic is so sensitive, let’s talk about something else.”
An Zhi thought for a while and asked, “Then is it because the two of you had a fight? Is your relationship on the verge of breaking up?”
Cang Lan slammed the notebook onto her lap and said fuming, “You’re the one fighting! Your relationship is breaking up! Do you even know how to talk? My lady and I are perfectly fine, in total harmony. If I hear such unlucky words from your mouth again, I’ll chop you into pieces and throw you into the mountains to feed the wolves!”
An Zhi was so overwhelmed by Cang Lan’s outburst that she covered her face and apologized repeatedly, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! My mistake! Then what on earth do you want to ask? One moment you want me to guess, and the next you’re roaring at me. You’re so hard to please!”
Cang Lan steadied herself and said somewhat stammeringly, “It’s… I want to say, what if my lady is pregnant, but I don’t have any experience? What should I do?”
“What!” An Zhi and Ting Lan shouted in unison. “Pregnant!”
Cang Lan covered both their mouths and hissed at them, “Keep your voices down!”
The Ginseng Baby jumped up and clapped her hands happily, “Wow! Xuanji is going to give birth to a dragon baby for me to play with!”
Cang Lan patted the Ginseng Baby’s head, bouncing her like a ball. She felt like kicking her away. “Play, play, play—play with your own head! I haven’t even played yet!”
An Zhi was so shocked she dropped the luminous pearl into the cold pool with a splash.
Cang Lan saw her scrambling to retrieve it as it sank rapidly and said, “Don’t bother. I have plenty of treasures. As long as you can answer my questions, gold and silver mountains won’t be a problem.”
An Zhi composed herself and whispered, “What did you just say? The master is pregnant? Whose child is it?”
Cang Lan said proudly, “Mine, of course! Who else could it be?”
Ting Lan frowned, looking puzzled. “But the master is a woman, and you are a female animal. Can two females have a baby together? Am I just ignorant and inexperienced, or is the world evolving too fast?”
Soon, An Zhi stared at Cang Lan’s chest with a look of utter shock and terror: “You couldn’t be a transsexual, could you!”
Cang Lan was stunned and said, “I am indeed a demon god, but what is this ‘transsexual’? Why have I never heard of it?”
“A transsexual is—I can’t explain it to you in a short time.”
Ting Lan poked An Zhi’s forehead and said, “Don’t overthink it. How could Cang Lan be a transsexual? I suspect the master might be pregnant because she was influenced by your divine power.”
An Zhi looked astonished. “But I still don’t know how the two of them conceived. However, this world is quite fantastical. Maybe they really can have one.”
Ting Lan nodded, then looked at Cang Lan warily and asked, “You didn’t force the master to get pregnant, did you?”
Cang Lan shook her head. “How could I force her to do anything she doesn’t like? We went shopping at the Demon Market today, and she couldn’t even eat. She kept feeling nauseous and vomiting. It really scared me.”
An Zhi and Ting Lan were also clueless about pregnancy and childbirth. Hearing the words “nauseous and vomiting,” they began to waver.
An Zhi frowned and said, “But the TV shows I’ve seen are like that. If the female lead wants to vomit, she’s pregnant. They also say ‘sour for a boy, spicy for a girl.’ Could the master really be carrying this evil dragon’s child?”
Cang Lan frowned and said, “Who are you calling names? I’ve lived for many years; by seniority, even your ancestors would have to call me an ancient ancestor.”
Seeing Cang Lan seriously taking notes, Ting Lan asked the most important question: “Cang Lan, let me ask you, do you want a child?”
Cang Lan was stunned by the question. she didn’t know how to answer. Initially, she didn’t feel much joy; instead, she felt more worried.
Yu Xuanji was a mortal, and Cang Lan didn’t know how the child had come to be or why it had suddenly appeared in Yu Xuanji’s belly. She felt more apprehension and concern, fearing that Yu Xuanji’s body wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Cang Lan lowered her head and said, “I can’t say. I don’t really care about having a child, but I don’t know if my lady’s body can handle it. She’s just an ordinary person. I’m just afraid she won’t be able to bear it.”
An Zhi said, “Since the deed is done and she’s carrying your child, you have to take responsibility as a mother. You must not let the master be sad or angry.”
Ting Lan added, “Yes, take things as they come. It’s not like you lack the ability to raise the child. I think the master must be looking forward to this little life too.”
With red eyes, Cang Lan gripped her brush tightly and said, “But she hasn’t mentioned it to me. Does she not know, or is she hiding it from me on purpose?”
An Zhi and Ting Lan looked at each other. After a moment of shock, Ting Lan said, “Maybe she doesn’t know. Why don’t you use your divine power to check? See if there really is a child. What if it’s just a misunderstanding?”
An Zhi comforted her, “Yeah, just to be safe. Otherwise, it would be a false alarm.”
Cang Lan nodded, then shook her head: “No, I’m afraid I won’t be able to control my strength. I don’t dare to look.”
Ting Lan said, “Then call a doctor. Isn’t Senior Phoenix very skilled? Ask her to come and check the master. Just to be safe.”
Cang Lan nodded vigorously, her heart pounding in her chest. “Alright, then I’ll invite the Old Phoenix to the Dragon Pool later to check on my lady.”
An Zhi comforted her, “Actually, I think the master has waited for you—”
Ting Lan coughed, winking at An Zhi to change the subject. She said, “This is a good thing. Since you two are so affectionate and it’s not a time of war, with everything in your favor, having ten or eight wouldn’t be a problem.”
An Zhi asked curiously, “Does a dragon giving birth work like a snake laying eggs? A whole clutch of eggs at once?”
Cang Lan shook her head and said, “I don’t know. For thousands of years, I’ve been the only dragon left in the world. I don’t know exactly what to do. If it really is like a snake laying eggs, do you think my lady will be able to handle it?”
An Zhi patted Cang Lan’s shoulder and said firmly, “She can. She definitely can. The master hasn’t been an ordinary mor—”
“Ahem, ahem, ahem!” Ting Lan coughed as if her lungs were about to come out. She glared at An Zhi and said, “She should be able to handle it. You are a god; you should be able to control the number of dragon eggs so she suffers less.”
Cang Lan covered her face shyly again and said, “I—I really don’t know what to do! It’s my first time too!”
The two of them racked their brains to find words to comfort Cang Lan. But after a while, they heard Cang Lan giggling again. “My lady asked me before if I liked children and if I wanted them. Do you think she likes them or not?”
An Zhi nodded frantically and said, “She definitely likes them!”
Cang Lan couldn’t help but let out a silly laugh, looking extremely bashful. “That’s good, that’s good—”
The three of them sat side by side. Seeing Cang Lan covering her mouth and face while letting out intermittent, silly giggles, An Zhi and Ting Lan could no longer stand the cloying scent of love.
An Zhi and Ting Lan leaned toward each other behind Cang Lan’s back and whispered.
Ting Lan said expressionlessly, “She just said she wasn’t interested in children.”
An Zhi covered her mouth and nodded. “Hypocritical dragon.”
Seeing that Cang Lan hadn’t had enough of laughing, An Zhi patted her shoulder and said, almost like a prophecy, “Hey, stop acting like an idiot for a moment. It’s not certain if there’s a child yet. What if she really just wants to vomit? You’ll have been happy for nothing.”
Cang Lan stopped her laughter and composed herself. “You’re right. I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. By the way, you two have more experience than I do. Tell me quickly what things should be avoided during pregnancy. I’ll write them all down.”
Seeing Cang Lan’s excitement, Ting Lan said, “I’ve heard that pregnant women become more sensitive than usual and are extremely prone to sadness or anger. They can’t eat certain things or touch certain things. You must take very careful care of her.”
An Zhi said, “That’s right. Her belly can’t be bumped, she can’t do strenuous exercise, and there are many things she can’t eat. It’s bad for both her and the baby.”
Cang Lan busied herself taking notes in her small notebook. When she encountered characters, she didn’t know how to write, she drew them instead. She gradually became frantic as she wrote, saying worriedly, “This is too fragile. I must take good care of her. I’ll make her happy every day and cook delicious food for her.”
An Zhi and Ting Lan were initially moved by Cang Lan’s words until they heard she wanted to personally cook for Yu Xuanji. Their faces instantly turned pale with fright: “Absolutely not!”
Cang Lan asked, “Why?”
Ting Lan quickly tried to smooth things over, saying, “If the master really is pregnant, then you should be responsible for her daily life, keeping her happy and protecting her. An Zhi and I will prepare nutritious meals. Your specific task is to protect the master, do you understand?”
Cang Lan said unenthusiastically, “But I can learn to make nutritious meals too.”
Ting Lan and An Zhi looked at each other and said, “Just leave it to us.”
After that little interlude, Ting Lan saw Cang Lan agree and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Cang Lan had Huang Liu invite Ming Huang to the Dragon Pool to see Yu Xuanji. Meanwhile, she obediently held her little notebook, seriously recording the pregnancy taboos they had mentioned.
Ting Lan said, “No smoking or drinking. The master has never been interested in smoking, but she has a high tolerance and can drink a lot. Remember not to let her drink.”
Cang Lan nodded. She didn’t know how to write the characters for “drinking,” so she simply drew a wine jar and put a cross over it.
An Zhi added, “And one more thing! You can’t have sex during pregnancy. If it’s too vigorous, the baby will be lost.”
The pen in Cang Lan’s hand fell to the ground with a clatter. She was utterly shocked: “What!!!”
