The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 6
Xia Qingyue: ???
She was a bit uncertain, her voice tinged with a hint of delight she hadn’t even noticed herself. “You mean… you never want to see Pei Luoqing again?”
Xia Xingtang gave her a quick once-over. “Why would I tell her? So, she can come fight me for the family fortune?”
“Oh, I see.” Xia Qingyue raised a hand to cover her mouth, stifling a laugh. “People these days can be pretty dangerous. You’re right to be cautious.”
Whenever Xia Xingtang had anything to do with Pei Luoqing before, wasn’t she always the first to jump in?
Now, after losing her memory, she was guarding against Pei Luoqing like a thief.
What a rare sight.
“Sis, it’s a business marriage after all. If we end up in a financial dispute, you have to help me out if there’s anything I don’t understand,” Xia Xingtang insisted, still uneasy.
“Alright, don’t trust anyone but your sister.” It had been a long time since Xia Qingyue had felt like she was Xia Xingtang’s entire world.
Just as Xia Qingyue was struggling to hold back her smile, Xia Xingtang finished the last piece of her rabbit-shaped apple and casually asked, “Sis, hurry up and tell me about my business empire so I know what I’m working with.”
Before Xia Qingyue could respond, she thoughtfully added, “I know I’m amazing, so just hit the highlights.”
She leaned back against the bed with an air of self-importance, as if she were a world-dominating billionaire.
Xia Qingyue couldn’t help but chuckle.
She couldn’t stand this side of Xia Xingtang and instinctively raised a hand to swat her, but redirected it to her shoulder because of the thick bandages. “You… you’re such a little dragon.”
Dragons love hoarding treasures in their caves, just like a young lady who spends money like water.
Burning through cash like nobody’s business.
“Wh-what?”
“I’ll have my assistant compile a list of the assets under your name another day.” Xia Qingyue didn’t want to go through them one by one, so she just highlighted a few. “The Yonghua Palace, that high-end chain of clubs in first-tier cities across China, is yours.”
Xia Xingtang’s eyes immediately lit up.
“The largest racetrack in the western part of Yuncheng is yours.”
Xia Xingtang tried hard to suppress her rising grin.
“And those dozens, maybe hundreds, of rental properties under your name probably bring in a decent income every month, right?”
Xia Xingtang: !!!
She thought she was living out some inspiring, self-made CEO story, only to wake up and find she was a carefree slacker who could live even more lavishly than a CEO?
She couldn’t help but scream internally: I can do this!
Why even bother working hard? Isn’t lounging around the dream?
“But, if you’re content with collecting rent during the day and revenue at night, you’d still be pretty well-off.” Just as Xia Xingtang was basking in her pride, Xia Qingyue couldn’t resist dousing her with cold water. “But you just had to go and dabble in all sorts of investments. Even though we had the same teachers growing up, your judgment is not exactly stellar.”
“I… I’m no good?”
Xia Qingyue said meaningfully, “You lose money on every investment.”
What a stark contrast to Pei Luoqing.
Xia Xingtang protested, “You can’t just take advantage of my memory loss to lie to me.”
Xia Qingyue snorted coldly and handed over the tablet she always carried. “Can you still understand these financial statements? If not, just look at the final results.”
Xia Xingtang skimmed through them quickly. Even with seven years of memories gone, these reports weren’t unfamiliar to her.
Every single one she pulled out showed disastrous losses.
Her little face instantly fell.
Xia Qingyue, afraid of upsetting Xia Xingtang’s recently amnesiac mind, said gently, “It’s okay if you lost money. You’re still young.”
“Oh.” Xia Xingtang was like a young dragon whose treasure had been snatched away, watching her hoard rise only to see it all fly away, even her invisible tail drooping limply.
Xia Xingtang continued flipping through the documents, but what puzzled her was a series of consecutive financial reports. Each cycle showed losses, yet at the start of every cycle, the balance reset to zero.
But even collecting rent couldn’t bring in such a large sum, could it? Or were her other ventures profitable?
The next second, Xia Xingtang finally understood the reason.
“Alright.” Xia Qingyue pulled a card from her bag and handed it over. “Tangtang is my precious little sister. If you want to invest, go ahead. No more sulking.”
Xia Xingtang muttered under her breath, “I’m twenty-three already. Why are you still using that tone you’d use on a child? You’re only five years older than me, do you have to act so superior?”
Xia Xingtang felt somewhat disdainful toward her twenty-three-year-old self.
Judging by Xia Qingyue’s familiar tone, it was probably her twenty-three-year-old self who had spoiled her sister like this.
Would she even have to act cute to satisfy Xia Qingyue’s sister complex?
Too childish. An adult wouldn’t do something like that.
Xia Xingtang was thoroughly disgusted and firmly refused.
Since Xia Xingtang’s words were mumbled, Xia Qingyue thought her sister was still dissatisfied and added, “I had my assistant cover all your losses this quarter. This card has fifty million for your monthly allowance. If it’s not enough, you must tell me, okay?”
Xia Xingtang took a deep breath and decisively clung to Xia Qingyue’s arm, nuzzling against her. “Thank you, sis! You’re the best!”
So, what if she had to act cute and playful? Who couldn’t do that?
Childish? What childishness?
This was exactly what an adult should do.
Watching Xia Xingtang’s face light up with the glee of a money-loving, carefree soul, Xia Qingyue couldn’t help but think that maybe losing her memory wasn’t so bad after all.
The twenty-three-year-old Xia Xingtang hadn’t been nearly this sweet.
The sixteen-year-old Xia Xingtang, aside from being spendthrift and playful, didn’t seem so bad.
“Sis.”
“Hmm?” Fully satisfied in her sisterly pride and affection, Xia Qingyue naturally responded softly. “What is it?”
“Can I have another apple? I’m hungry again.” Xia Xingtang glanced at the fruit basket and emphasized, “And make it bunny-shaped. The ears on the last one you carved weren’t round enough.”
Xia Qingyue: “…”
Well, the sixteen-year-old Xia Xingtang wasn’t just irritating, she also ate and slept like a little piglet.
Xia Qingyue’s fingers were slender, and even an ordinary fruit knife seemed to carve masterpieces in her hands, a truly pleasing sight.
Xia Xingtang leaned against three soft pillows, bathed in the warm sunlight, with her own sister to admire, utterly content.
Just as Xia Qingyue finished carving the first little bunny and was about to hand it over, the sound of a turning doorknob came from the outer door of the hospital room.
Xia Xingtang immediately withdrew her hand, her gaze fixed on the door. “Is that my food?”
“Probably.” Xia Qingyue answered casually, clearly displeased at being interrupted by Pei Luoqing.
There were bodyguards she had brought stationed at the door, and the doctor had just left. No one else would be allowed in.
The only person who could come and go so freely was Pei Luoqing.
When Xia Xingtang was still in the emergency room, Xia Qingyue had questioned Pei Luoqing for a long time, yet she still couldn’t figure out what exactly had gone wrong between the two of them.
When they first met outside the emergency room, it was the first time in so many years that Xia Qingyue had seen Pei Luoqing display such a distraught expression, as if her entire spirit had been drained away in an instant.
Even the sudden death of Pei Luoqing’s father, the pressure from the board of directors, or the power struggles with her illegitimate half-brother had never caused Pei Luoqing to lose her composure. Xia Qingyue refused to believe that Pei Luoqing had no feelings for her younger sister.
In their daily lives, both she and Pei Luoqing could discuss business opportunities with ease, but when it came to analyzing Xia Xingtang’s emotions, they were both at a loss, completely clueless.
Perhaps it was because Xia Qingyue herself had never been in a relationship, or perhaps because Pei Luoqing was not an honest confidant, but the two of them, who should have been able to confide in each other, often found themselves in silence instead.
Maybe Xia Xingtang’s memory loss was, in some way, fate’s doing.
Xia Qingyue sighed, hoping that this time Pei Luoqing would seize the opportunity. Otherwise, she wouldn’t hesitate to bring Xia Xingtang back to the Xia family and take care of her herself.
After all, while siblings in other wealthy families often fought tooth and nail over inheritance, she and Xia Xingtang were among the few who shared a genuine sisterly bond.
Xia Xingtang had grown up under her care, spoiled into the person she was today, and Xia Qingyue was more than willing to look after her for a lifetime.
Under Xia Xingtang’s expectant gaze, a tall, slender woman walked in.
She carried an exquisite takeout box in her hand. Despite the faint dark circles under her beautiful eyes, they couldn’t overshadow her delicate features. Her striking eyes held a hint of shrewdness, and her every movement exuded elegance.
Xia Xingtang’s eyes instantly lit up, fixed unblinkingly on the door. Just as she was about to turn her head, she found herself involuntarily scanning the woman’s figure under Xia Qingyue’s exasperated gaze.
The woman wore a light cyan trench coat over a white button-up shirt. Even with the top button fastened, it couldn’t conceal her enviable figure. Her long, straight legs were accentuated by a pair of high heels, and her entire presence radiated an aura of restrained, intellectual allure.
Xia Xingtang had always been drawn to beautiful people, and the woman before her was no less stunning than her own sister, making her blood boil with excitement.
The world at twenty-three truly was different, even the caregivers hired could be this breathtakingly beautiful.
As the woman approached, Xia Xingtang directly slapped her black card onto the bedside table. “Being a caregiver must be tough, right? How much would it cost to sponsor you for a month?”
