The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 24.3
As Xia Xingting followed Pei Luoqing inside, she occasionally overheard them discussing capital market topics with Pei Luoqing.
She had lost seven years of memories, but while reviewing her university materials recently, perhaps by heaven’s grace, she had easily grasped the relevant theoretical knowledge, much like how one learns to drive.
However, there was still a gap between theory and the actual business world. The most direct evidence was that despite skipping two grades to enter Yan University’s finance department, her pre-amnesia investments had been a complete disaster.
Listening to these conversations, Xia Xingting felt increasingly drowsy, her attention wandering until she could barely focus her eyes.
During a lull in the conversation, Pei Luoqing noticed her expression and softly asked, “Bored?”
Snapping out of her daze, Xia Xingting shook her head. “It’s fine.”
If she actually admitted to being bored, wouldn’t that be disrespectful to the others?
Pei Luoqing scanned the crowd. Xia Qingyue had slipped away at some point, no wonder people kept gathering around her.
“If you’re bored, should I take you to find Yu Feifei?”
Xia Xingting was surprised but still declined. “No need, you can keep talking.”
After a moment’s thought, she added, “After all, Yu Feifei isn’t your age peer. It’s good for you to have common topics here.”
She slightly emphasized the words “age peer,” while maintaining the appearance of a considerate and virtuous young wife.
It made Pei Luoqing’s heart twitch uncomfortably.
Fortunately, several foreign investors approached just then, easing the tense atmosphere.
These individuals were quite interested in both cultures. After a few glasses of champagne, and since they didn’t need translators to communicate with Pei Luoqing, they chattered away, asking her all sorts of questions.
Pei Luoqing was usually patient in such settings, effortlessly discussing both business and cultural differences.
The foreigners, being naturally outgoing, showered Xia Xingting with compliments as well. Feeling obliged, she exchanged a few words with them, and the atmosphere became much more pleasant than before, she even ended up having a few more drinks.
It wasn’t until others approached that the foreigners reluctantly expressed interest in meeting with Pei Luoqing another time. Pei Luoqing verbally agreed, but whether they would actually meet privately was another matter.
After they left, Pei Luoqing led Xia Xingting toward the dining area. Seeing this, others tactfully refrained from disturbing them.
Meanwhile, Yu Feifei on the other side wasn’t as fortunate as Xia Xingting. Her aunt had forcibly brought her directly into the banquet hall from inside the hotel.
Just as she pulled out her phone to ask if Xia Xingting had arrived, her aunt scolded her in a low voice, “Feifei, behave yourself. Your father said you should stop messing around in the entertainment industry and start learning about family affairs.”
“Did you come to the banquet just to play on your phone? I remember you used to love attending parties the most, haven’t your worn evening gowns already filled several rooms at home?”
Under her aunt’s strict supervision, Yu Feifei listened to the words but couldn’t help rolling her eyes inwardly, intimidated by her aunt’s authority.
Given her chosen career as a celebrity, she was naturally someone who loved the spotlight and thoroughly enjoyed parties.
But the parties she liked were the ones thrown by young people, okay?
The kind with low-cut backs and dresses slit all the way up to the thigh, okay?
Who would wear a multi-layered princess dress like the one she had on now?
Yu Feifei found it hard to voice her thoughts, so she tried to struggle: “Auntie, I was thinking of contacting Xia Xingtang.”
At the mention of Xia Xingtang, her aunt’s expression softened slightly. She seemed surprised: “The Xia family is here too?”
“Yeah, yeah, even her wife, Pei Luoqing, is here.”
After a moment’s thought, her aunt immediately encouraged her: “I remember you and that Xia girl were quite close, right? She always had better grades than you since we were young, and now she’s even managed to win over the head of Yunji Group. You should learn from her.”
Yu Feifei twirled a strand of her beautiful hair, her eyes subtly scanning the people around her: “Sure, Auntie, what do you think of those men over there? Should I go strike up a conversation and get married tomorrow?”
Her aunt glanced over and saw several middle-aged, balding men with their mistresses.
“Feifei, you!”
Before her aunt could finish, Yu Feifei tried to slip away, but her aunt was quicker and grabbed the ribbon on her dress.
At that moment, Yu Feifei’s dissatisfaction with her outfit reached its peak.
Fortunately, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye and quickly signaled to her aunt behind her: “Your accomplished young CEO Pei is here.”
Seeing this, her aunt let go and went forward to chat with Pei Luoqing for a few words.
Yu Feifei breathed a sigh of relief and pulled Xia Xingtang aside. The two hit it off instantly, one venting all the frustration of being controlled by her aunt, and the other seizing the chance to complain about being trapped among a crowd of executives.
After letting it all out, they both let out a long, relieved sigh.
They couldn’t help but reflect on how, in times like these, only a close girlfriend could truly understand the troubles in their hearts.
Meanwhile, after receiving Pei Luoqing’s request to send someone to salvage the car, Yu Feifei had already pieced together what had happened to Xia Xingtang that afternoon.
But she still played dumb and teased: “Little Star, you’ve been standing for so long. Has the foot injury from this afternoon healed?”
Xia Xingtang hadn’t paid it much mind at first, but after standing for a while, the wound began to ache faintly.
She didn’t hide it from Yu Feifei and answered honestly: “It’s a bit uncomfortable.”
Yu Feifei asked with concern: “Do you want me to take you to the restroom? You look a bit pale.”
Thinking about it, Xia Xingtang had caught a chill in the afternoon and was already feeling weak. Add to that the alcohol she’d had with Pei Luoqing and the tedious conversations, it was no wonder she looked pale.
Xia Xingtang said casually: “No need to trouble yourself. It’s all Pei Luoqing’s fault for being so exhausting. I’ll just tough it out.”
She didn’t realize the ambiguity in her words until Yu Feifei’s expression suddenly shifted, and she asked with a strange look:
“CEO Pei is… that impressive?”
Xia Xingtang froze, replaying her own words in her head.
Then, in an instant, her ears turned bright red.
