The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 24.1
After all, if the Second Young Miss of the Xia family was going to attend the banquet, she had to be the most dazzling one there.
Truth be told, she also wanted to show off her suddenly less “plastic” marriage and flaunt her wealth while she was at it.
The styling team quickly got into gear, starting to select gowns and accessories for Xia Xingtang.
The transparent gauze covers on several clothing racks were pulled back with a rustle, revealing an array of flashy shoes, bags, clothes, and accessories. On a partitioned wardrobe, the glittering reflections from jewelry and watches were almost blinding.
Xia Xingtang gazed contentedly at everything before her, once again marveling at how incredibly wealthy she was.
And such a thing shouldn’t be known only to her, it had to be shared with the people downstairs.
“Pei Luoqing, did you have your assistant bring clothes? Do you want to pick something too?” Xia Xingtang fiddled with the long row of gowns. Their figures were similar, so the sizes would fit either of them.
This banquet hadn’t originally been part of Pei Luoqing’s plans. Bringing it up earlier had been a way to test Xia Xingtang’s attitude.
Unexpectedly, Xia Xingtang had agreed. Given Pei Luoqing’s status, even if the two of them showed up in simple shirts and trousers, no one would find it inappropriate.
But she knew this little ancestor cared deeply about face, she would only attend after preening her beautiful feathers.
Watching the styling team that the little ancestor had somehow summoned, Pei Luoqing sent a message to her assistant telling them not to bother sending over a stylist. Then, with a hint of laughter in her voice, she said, “Well then, should I consider it?”
It sounded as though Pei Luoqing was condescending to accompany her to the banquet.
Xia Xingtang nearly bristled on the spot because of that remark.
But with so many eyes watching them, she could only sulkily select her outfit, determined to pick the most stunning one for herself.
Just then, the click of high heels sounded behind her, and a shadow fell over the row of clothes.
Slender, well-defined fingers wrapped around her wrist, and soft, tickling strands of hair brushed against her shoulder. A light laugh sounded by her ear: “Gently, now. You’ll tear the collar.”
Xia Xingtang froze, then shook off Pei Luoqing’s hand. “W-what are you talking about? That dress is strapless anyway.”
“Alright.” Pei Luoqing sorted through a few pieces and pulled out two outfits. “These two are quite nice.”
Xia Xingtang glanced at them. Both were modified cheongsam styles, which demanded a lot from the wearer’s figure. She usually avoided such designs, feeling that form-fitting cheongsams were too restrictive.
Abruptly, she pointed to the gown she had just been gripping and said, “But I think this one suits me better.”
Pei Luoqing frowned at the dress, which seemed to be made of little more than scraps of fabric.
Before she could say anything, Xia Xingtang giggled beside her.
It was as if she had uncovered Pei Luoqing’s hidden thoughts and was now looking at her with teasing eyes.
Just as Pei Luoqing was about to explain herself, Xia Xingtang unexpectedly asked, “Which color looks better?”
Pei Luoqing was taken aback. Xia Xingtang pressed, “If neither is good, I’ll just wear the one from earlier?”
“Black.”
Xia Xingtang had fair skin, and a black cheongsam would accentuate her elegance.
“Fine.” Xia Xingtang waved over one of the staff. “Give her the black one. I’ll take the blue.”
Pei Luoqing was taken aback for a moment but didn’t refute. Thanks to Xia Xingtang, she too was pressed onto the sofa and thoroughly fussed over from head to toe.
It was through this process that Pei Luoqing came to realize just how picky this little princess could be. That small mouth of hers chattered nonstop with demands, even fretting over which direction a single strand of hair should lie.
Had it been any other time, Pei Luoqing would have considered this a waste of time. No matter how ostentatiously one dressed, it would never be as beneficial as spending more time understanding a business partner’s preferences.
But when she turned her head, Xia Xingtang, as if anticipating it, met her gaze. At the same time, she shifted into a more comfortable posture and asked, “Do I look good?”
Xia Xingtang was wearing the sapphire-blue qipao she had just picked out, its skirt slit high on the side, accentuating her slender waist and long legs. Paired with a fringe-like diamond necklace, it revealed her swan-like neck. Part of her smooth, long hair remained undone, casually cascading down.
Her eyes shimmered, her skin appeared snow-white against the fabric, and her lazy posture as she reclined nearby made it impossible to look away.
Even with only a layer of base makeup, her face exuded a unique charm, like a noble and enchanting canary, captivating with every move.
They continued like this until just half an hour before the banquet began, when the ordeal finally ended.
The second young lady of the Xia family was immensely satisfied with her reflection in the full-length mirror. Even the scratches on her feet could be overlooked as she strode confidently in her high heels, radiating energy.
Adorned in an outfit meticulously designed by the stylist for two hours, she couldn’t help but want to praise her own beauty. Pei Luoqing, who had married her, no, whom she had married, must have had smoke rising from her ancestral graves to be so fortunate!
Glancing at Pei Luoqing beside her, she saw her dressed in a black modernized qipao, tall and elegant, with subtle yet refined makeup, exuding both freshness and grace.
Perhaps due to being a few years older, Pei Luoqing’s attire carried a more restrained charm and allure compared to Xia Xingtang, as if a faint, seductive aura emanated from her very bones, openly inviting admiration.
Standing together, they looked like a perfect match. Xia Xingtang’s unrestrained charm and nearly overflowing vanity were finally immensely satisfied.
At six in the evening, a low-key yet luxurious Rolls-Royce pulled up slowly at the entrance of the Shili Fangfei Resort Hotel. The moment its doors opened, it captured the attention of most people present.
Xia Xingtang, holding onto Pei Luoqing’s arm, was exceptionally pleased with her own dazzling entrance. She leisurely fanned herself with a blue feathered fan, maintaining a noble and aloof expression on her face even as her heart swelled with pride.
The banquet was closely related to the afternoon summit. Those who hadn’t managed to speak with Pei Luoqing earlier now recognized her and came forward to strike up a conversation.
“President Pei, you’re truly accomplished at such a young age. We’ll have to rely on you in the future.”
“President Pei, you secured quite a few projects today. What are your thoughts on the future development of Yuncheng?”
“President Pei, if you have time later, we must have a proper chat.”
“…”
As the voices faded, several black cars pulled up at the hotel entrance. The doors of the cars behind opened first, and a dozen or so bodyguards in black suits stepped out, forming two rows beside the leading black Bentley.
This spectacle quickly shifted the crowd’s attention.
Xia Xingtang smiled and turned her head, curious to see who had stolen her thunder. But as her gaze fell upon the familiar license plate, her hand, still holding the feathered fan, paused. She watched as a graceful woman stepped out of the Bentley.
Xia Qingyue wore a black sheer fishtail gown, her wavy long hair casually draped over her shoulders. Adorning her fair collarbone was a diamond necklace identical to Xia Xingtang’s, and even the watch on her wrist sparkled with the same brilliance, dazzling under the lights.
Xia Xingtang’s smile froze on her face.
Earlier, while selecting accessories, she had tried her best to pick similar ones for Pei Luoqing to subtly satisfy her own feelings. But she never expected Xia Qingyue to show up wearing matching accessories.
As Xia Qingyue approached, even Pei Luoqing, standing nearby, noticed the similarity.
However, they couldn’t just block the entrance. Amid the crowd, they continued chatting and laughing as they made their way inside.
Xia Qingyue, as usual, praised her younger sister and, pointing to the several bodyguards behind her, bluntly remarked to Pei Luoqing, “Is Yunji on the verge of bankruptcy? You won’t even spend a little on a grand entrance for my sister?”
Xia Xingtang was inwardly grumbling about whether her sister had read too many domineering CEO novels when she was caught off guard by the comment and hadn’t yet processed it.
Just then, Pei Luoqing cast a casual glance at Xia Qingyue and remarked, “Have you ever seen anyone bring over a dozen bodyguards on a date?”
Then, as if deliberately trying to provoke, she patted Xia Xingtang’s hand and asked patiently, “Tangtang, tell her, who am I to you?”
Only then did Xia Xingtang snap back to reality. She glanced at Pei Luoqing, as if to say, Did your brain really get waterlogged after falling into the lake?
What was there even to introduce?
One was her biological sister, and the other was her legally wedded spouse. The two were even college classmates.
Was there anything they didn’t know about each other?
She had no idea what they were competing over.
Xia Xingtang reluctantly met her sister’s gaze and stammered, “She’s… she’s my, uh…”
Sure enough, she stumbled halfway through.
Pei Luoqing, standing idly by, chimed in, “Xia Xingtang, are the words ‘lover’ too hot for your mouth?”
