The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 23.1
Xia Xingtang felt she was left with only two choices: either jump into the lake again, or bite back.
But upon reflection, Pei Luoqing had always been quite generous to her. Even if it was just for the sports car, the jewelry, and the beautiful clothes, it wasn’t entirely unbearable.
Still, Pei Luoqing’s words were hard to swallow. What did she mean by “taking advantage” when she was the one being rescued?
With her flawless figure, it was clearly Pei Luoqing who had taken advantage when she held her!
Across the entire city of Yuncheng, countless people would kill to go on a date with her, let alone have such intimate contact.
Was Pei Luoqing out of her mind? If she had such a sharp tongue with nowhere to vent, she should go negotiate a few more projects at the bargaining table instead of bullying a minor.
Xia Xingtang scoffed inwardly and retorted defiantly, “But aren’t we already married? What more do you want me to do? If being hugged by me is such a disadvantage and humiliation, why don’t you just divorce me?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Pei Luoqing’s expression visibly darkened.
The entire bedroom plunged into a terrifying silence, the temperature seeming to drop along with it.
The wind blowing in from the window made Xia Xingtang shiver.
She immediately regretted her words, feeling that she might have gone too far. But faced with Pei Luoqing’s icy expression, she couldn’t bring herself to say another word.
She could only stare helplessly at Pei Luoqing.
The silence stretched on for several minutes before Pei Luoqing finally let out a sigh.
“So, Miss Xia, to avoid taking responsibility, you’d even casually mention divorce?”
Pei Luoqing’s lips curled into a faint smile, but her tone was cold and detached.
Xia Xingtang’s emotions were still unsettled, and hearing the word “divorce” again made her eyes sting with unshed tears.
Unsure how to deny it, she mumbled a soft, “Mm.”
Pei Luoqing seemed either unaware of her sulking or, more likely, so accustomed to her princess tantrums that she chose not to indulge her this time.
Xia Xingtang suddenly felt an inexplicable panic, a discomfort spreading through her entire body.
Just as she was hesitating whether to apologize first, Pei Luoqing spoke again, her tone unhurried, “Thinking about divorce? Don’t even dream of it.”
At first, Pei Luoqing had been taken aback by the little princess’s erratic train of thought.
She had been about to demand an explanation when she noticed that Xia Xingtang’s expression was far more honest than her words. She looked torn, unsure how to speak, gazing at her with such a pitiful expression.
It was remarkably vivid and unexpectedly docile, a rare sight that caught Pei Luoqing off guard.
If it were anyone else, Pei Luoqing would have slammed the door and left long ago. But with Xia Xingtang, she found herself exercising a bit more patience.
Pei Luoqing knew that waiting for Xia Xingtang to speak up was futile, and letting the situation drag on would only make it harder to resolve.
After a moment of silence, she suddenly pointed to the back of her neck, turning slightly to the side, and said calmly, “See this wound?”
Xia Xingtang pressed her lips together and obediently looked, though her expression remained somewhat confused.
She asked slowly, “What is it?”
To give Xia Xingtang a clearer view, Pei Luoqing sat on the edge of the bed, showing her the wound on the back of her neck. “Here.”
Xia Xingtang opened her mouth but remained silent.
In truth, Xia Xingtang had already noticed that wound before Pei Luoqing even walked over. She just couldn’t quite believe her eyes, which was why she asked.
But as it turned out, it wasn’t her imagination after all.
Rather than calling it a wound, it was more like a scratch, wasn’t it?
Even a pimple from Pei Luoqing’s teenage years would have been several times larger than this so-called “wound” she was making such a fuss about.
By the time the sun set, the scratch would probably have vanished entirely.
She couldn’t understand why Pei Luoqing was making such a big deal out of it.
Then, she heard Pei Luoqing say slowly, “This happened when we surfaced earlier. You were clinging so tightly to my neck that your nails scratched me.”
As if worried her explanation wasn’t thorough enough, she added with a sigh, “I couldn’t shake you off, so I had to endure the pain while pulling you to shore.”
Xia Xingtang: …
She didn’t remember any of that.
But even if it had happened, what good would showing her the wound do? She wasn’t a doctor.
Yet, recalling Pei Luoqing’s unwillingness to suffer any losses today, a faint sense of foreboding crept into her heart.
Sure enough, the next moment, Pei Luoqing declared righteously, “So you have to compensate me.”
She paused, then added, “Along with the first kiss you stole from me underwater, you need to make up for it all.”
Xia Xingtang: Even the most unreasonable family members of medical dispute cases aren’t as dramatic as you.
She’d seen people trying to scam others before, but never someone so shamelessly brazen about it.
In an instant, all the guilt and self-blame Xia Xingtang had felt earlier vanished without a trace.
Her peach-blossom eyes widened in disbelief as she asked, “Then why didn’t you ask me for compensation when the doctor said you had a slight fever earlier?”
Pei Luoqing: “Ah, that should be included too.”
Xia Xingtang mentally calculated her assets, then slammed the tablet down with a flourish and asked boldly, “Then name your price.”
Pei Luoqing shook her head. “No, it’s not about money.”
Xia Xingtang sneered, “Right, I almost forgot. President Pei has far more money than I do.”
Pei Luoqing glanced at her and brought up the past again, saying calmly, “After being kissed and held by you, I’m no longer pure. Add to that the fever and injury I suffered for you, and no one will want to take care of a wounded person like me. It’ll be hard to find someone to take me in the future.”
Her tone was full of resentment, like someone pregnant pleading for a scoundrel to change his ways.
Xia Xingtang was speechless.
She felt as though she’d been targeted by a scoundrel, one who happened to be rich and beautiful, ticking every box on her list of preferences.
Xia Xingtang subconsciously ignored the insulting implication. How could someone like her ever have trouble finding someone?
Her mind was a mess as she stammered, “So, what? Are you planning to latch onto me for life?”
To her surprise, Pei Luoqing’s next words left her completely stunned: “This is my first time being in a relationship too. If there’s anything I’m doing wrong, just point it out, and I’ll change.”
Xia Xingtang’s mind went blank for a full five seconds before she processed what Pei Luoqing had said.
And, utterly shamelessly, her hands gripping the sheets trembled slightly.
But she still managed to retort stubbornly, “Who’s in a relationship with you? Even if we’ve been intimate, it’s just an upgrade from a plastic marriage to an intimate plastic marriage.”
She deliberately emphasized the word “plastic” both times.
Wasn’t their relationship as cheap as the fake roses sold for fifty cents apiece at the elementary school gate?
Oh, but perhaps they can’t really be compared.
At the very least, a wet fake rose can still be used as soap to wash one’s hands.
Xia Xingtang had been kneeling for so long that her legs were starting to ache with numbness.
But Pei Luoqing was sitting right in front of her. If she wanted to stretch her legs, she’d have to extend them toward Pei Luoqing.
So, she quietly reached down and rubbed her legs for a while, muttering a few curses in her heart as she did so, which made her feel a bit better.
“Saving a life means repaying it with oneself,” Pei Luoqing mused thoughtfully. “Since what we discussed at the hospital before didn’t count as dating, then as compensation this time, shouldn’t you at least give me a proper relationship?”
Compensate Pei Luoqing with a relationship?
Could there really be such a good thing?
Xia Xingtang felt that her acting skills had reached their peak at this moment, even Yu Feifei, a professional actress, couldn’t match her control over her expressions.
No matter how much she was screaming inside, the subtle expressions on her face remained perfectly restrained.
As if nothing had happened at all.
She stole a glance with a blank face, forcing herself to stay calm. “So, you want to date me?”
Her tone was rather haughty, like a vampire duke addressing her little blood servant.
She was certain that if Pei Luoqing dared to say “no” next, she’d make sure the divorce news would be splashed across the headlines tomorrow.
