The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 20.1
“Xiao Xing, is that President Pei over there?”
“My grandfather never stops talking about President Pei in front of me, saying if I had even half her capabilities I’d bring honor to our ancestors. Isn’t it normal for President Pei to attend the summit?”
“Yunji has developed so rapidly over the past three years. At this rate, the richest person in Yuncheng is going to change.”
“Change to whom? From the Xia family to the Pei family, isn’t it still our Second Miss Xia’s person?” A girl beside her gently nudged Xia Xingtang’s shoulder, teasing and laughing.
The surrounding chatter grew louder, but Xia Xingtang’s expression darkened. Yu Feifei stopped in front of Xia Xingtang’s car and whispered, “Xiao Xing, President Pei and the others are coming over. Can you save some face?”
Xia Xingtang glared at Yu Feifei but reluctantly gave in.
Truthfully, she wasn’t really angry, just a bit embarrassed.
From what she had just seen and heard, she had already deduced Pei Luoqing’s identity.
Her arranged marriage partner was the CEO of Yunji.
She had heard of Yunji since she was a child, and it seemed the company had reached new heights now.
So, Pei Luoqing was truly a marriage partner of equal status, not some random live-in son-in-law from a cliché story.
Putting aside Pei Luoqing’s identity for a moment, just look at the delicate young woman by her side and the eager young man trailing behind them. Was this an open affair?
Didn’t Pei Luoqing at least have the title of a business marriage with her?
Even if there were no feelings involved, hadn’t they been hailed as China’s model partners for the past three years?
Did the Second Miss Xia have no dignity to uphold?
As the group of executives approached, several of the wealthy heirs around Xia Xingtang were called over by their parents.
Pei Luoqing walked straight toward Xia Xingtang. With each step, the gazes of those around them subtly fell upon Xia Xingtang.
Some were curious, some had sudden realizations, and others were captivated.
Ignoring the surrounding stares, Xia Xingtang turned to start her car.
But as she moved her foot, which had been standing for too long, the loosely fastened strap of her high heel came undone.
Xia Xingtang paid it no mind and continued walking, but the strap seemed to have a mind of its own. As she took a step back, she stepped on it, losing her balance and stumbling backward.
Fortunately, a shadow moved faster than Yu Feifei, stepping forward in a few quick strides to steady Xia Xingtang by the arm.
Xia Xingtang stared blankly at Pei Luoqing in front of her, about to speak, when the person blocking the light crouched down.
With one knee raised and the other lowered, Pei Luoqing patiently fastened the shoe strap for her.
The surrounding noise gradually faded, especially among the group that had arrived with Pei Luoqing, who now recognized Xia Xingtang’s identity.
After all, Pei Luoqing had remained expressionless the entire time, rarely speaking during their conversations.
Yet here she was, openly helping another woman and naturally fixing her shoe strap in front of everyone.
In all of Yuncheng, who else could make the usually silent Pei Luoqing take the initiative to approach?
And who could make Pei Luoqing stoop so low as to crouch down and fasten a shoe strap?
Without a doubt, it could only be the Second Miss of the Xia family.
The few people who had just been surrounding Pei Luoqing, trying to strike up a conversation, now looked pale. Had they known the real partner was here, they wouldn’t have dared to entertain any improper thoughts about Pei Luoqing, no matter how bold they were.
After all, Xia Xingtang’s notoriously spoiled temper was as well-known as her influential family background.
As for Xia Xingtang, the one whose shoe Pei Luoqing was adjusting, aside from a brief moment of surprise at the beginning, she allowed the situation to unfold. Since Pei Luoqing wanted to put on a show in public, she’d reluctantly play along, just for the sake of the shoe.
Pei Luoqing fastened the buckle and asked, “Is this alright?”
“Mm.”
Xia Xingtang responded casually, using the opportunity to glance at the people nearby, whose expressions varied widely. Particularly those who had initially been hovering around Pei Luoqing, their faces drained of color, looking utterly embarrassed.
Xia Xingtang snorted inwardly, unable to resist mocking Pei Luoqing’s poor taste. Then she calmly averted her gaze as if they were nothing but air.
Those individuals had braced themselves for Xia Xingtang’s sarcastic remarks, already scheming to play the victim and gain sympathy. To their surprise, not only did Xia Xingtang not trouble them, she didn’t even spare them a second glance, just a fleeting look, a complete dismissal.
Shame and the stark class disparity made their pale faces flush with embarrassment, creating a rather vivid display of emotions.
Once Pei Luoqing finished adjusting Xia Xingtang’s shoe and stood up, she turned to the group of executives behind her. “I have other matters to attend to today, so I won’t be able to accompany you any further.”
The executives who had accompanied Pei Luoqing were from less successful companies and of lower seniority, hoping to gain some advantage from her. As for the young men and women, who should have been idle rich kids like Xia Xingtang’s crowd, they couldn’t even step into her social circle.
Now, recognizing Xia Xingtang’s identity, their minds raced with confusion. Weren’t Pei Luoqing and Xia Xingtang supposed to avoid each other in public? Wasn’t it rumored that they were on bad terms and disliked each other? How did this scene align with those rumors at all?
Before they could make sense of it, Xia Xingtang spoke to Pei Luoqing, “You go ahead with your business. I have things to do and I’m leaving.”
“I’ll go with you,” Pei Luoqing blurted out.
Xia Xingtang tilted her head to give her a look. She had only agreed to play the part of the loving wife because Pei Luoqing was still crouched down fixing her shoe buckle. Now that it was done, the act was over. Not settling the score with Pei Luoqing right there in public for pretending to be poor or for the “other women” was the last bit of face she was willing to give.
She refused without hesitation, “Don’t follow me.” Yet, she instinctively lowered her voice so only Pei Luoqing could hear.
As Xia Xingtang got into the car, Yu Feifei quickly shoved her own car keys into Pei Luoqing’s hand, smiling brightly. “President Pei, you should really spend some time with our Xiao Xing, shouldn’t you?”
Pei Luoqing said “Thank you” and hurried after her, leaving behind a crowd of bewildered onlookers.
“Xiao Xing is so unfair, cheating and leaving first again. Only President Pei would indulge her like this,” Yu Feifei smoothly covered for the pair’s behavior, then cast a warning glance at those who had been crowding around Pei Luoqing earlier.
Then, she casually summoned a few managers. “I’ll cover all the expenses for today’s event. I hope everyone enjoys themselves!”
As soon as Yu Feifei spoke, even if those present had countless questions, they had to show some respect on her turf.
The conversation quickly shifted to the wealthy heirs who had been caught red-handed.
The red sports car blended seamlessly with the racetrack, as if every turn was meticulously calculated. After a few sharp drifts, it sped beyond the boundaries of the racetrack.
Xia Xingtang didn’t head back the way she came. Instead, she drove deeper into the resort’s grassy fields.
The car slowed considerably, cruising at a speed akin to driving on a regular road. As the engine’s roar softened, the gentle rustle of grass brushing past reached her ears, accompanied by the faint chirping of birds.
In the rearview mirror, an ice-blue Ferrari appeared. Xia Xingtang frowned, slowing down to get a clearer look at the driver.
It was Pei Luoqing.
She let out a cold laugh and pressed the accelerator again. The modified engine roared distinctly across the vast grassland.
But she seemed to hear nothing, her stubborn gaze fixed solely on the road ahead.
Whether it was Pei Luoqing’s actions or Xia Qingyue and Yu Feifei’s complicit silence, all of it gradually faded from her mind.
With each press of the accelerator, the sports car picked up speed once more.
Shili Fangfei was far from the city center, with no polluting factories nearby. The air and scenery were both exceptionally pleasant.
The landscape flew past on either side, carrying away some of the negative emotions Xia Xingtang had buried deep within.
Through the rushing wind, they dissipated into the world.
Feeling slightly better, Xia Xingtang glanced at the rearview mirror but could no longer spot the blue car.
She frowned slightly, scanning the surroundings as she drove, searching for any sign of Pei Luoqing.
Had she lost her? She hadn’t been driving that fast.
A sense of restlessness crept into her heart, causing her to focus more intently on the rearview mirror.
Had Pei Luoqing given up so quickly?
“Baa~ baa~”
Just then, the sound of bleating suddenly reached her ears.
A dozen or so alpacas had escaped from a nearby fence and, as if fearing capture, were darting toward her from all directions, picking up speed.
Snapping back to reality, she swiftly turned the steering wheel. The tires screeched as the car skidded across the grass.
It all happened in a matter of seconds. Xia Xingtang’s car grazed the edge of an ornamental lake and suddenly lost balance.
Water surged in from all sides through the car windows.
When Pei Luoqing noticed Xia Xingtang accelerating, she knew Xia Xingtang was still furious.
Moreover, high heels made it difficult to drive such a sports car. While Xia Xingtang could recklessly kick off her shoes, Pei Luoqing, constrained by Yu Feifei’s presence, couldn’t do the same.
She increased the distance between them, following Xia Xingtang from afar.
Giving Xia Xingtang ample space to be alone.
But as the artificial lake drew nearer, she spotted the ornamental alpacas in the distance before Xia Xingtang did.
Yet, the Bugatti ahead showed no signs of slowing down.
A sense of foreboding surged within her.
After a few sharp turns from Xia Xingtang’s car, Pei Luoqing felt her heart stop, just as it had a month ago.
She watched helplessly as the entire car plunged into the lake before her eyes!
